“Sometimes you just pick up the right book that just hits you and makes you really love it. This was one of those books for me. I just got so into the story and never wanted it to end.”

Miss Primrose needs to be punished.
A member of the wickedly wanton Inn of the Red Chrysanthemum, where the most taboo and illicit pleasures are indulged, Miss Primrose—or Mistress Primrose, as she prefers—left Nicholas Edelton a shell of a man. Now his older brother, Spencer Edelton, the Marquess of Carey, intends to provide her a set-down she will never forget.
Weary from exacting her revenge upon the man who raped her sister, Beatrice Primrose has had her fill of men of privilege and presumption, but she accepts a fateful invitation from a handsome nobleman to spend a sennight at his estate for a grand sum of money. She soon learns, however, that she will not get to reprise her role as Mistress. To her horror, she finds his lordship expects her to submit to him!
But Beatrice won’t give in so easily.
In a clash of wills, fueled by vengeance and lust, Lord Carey and Miss Primrose wrestle for dominance in, and out of, the bedchamber. Their biggest struggle, however, may be against their own desires…
Can Miss Primrose take what she dishes? And will Lord Carey succumb or succeed in punishing Miss Primrose?
After accidentally flashing the audience with her knickers, Em Brown decided that writing was a safer activity. She enjoys writing romance, particularly erotic historicals. For more about her works, visit www.EroticHistoricals.com.
Punishing Miss Primrose is the ULTIMATE guilty pleasure. Lovers of historical romance/fiction and erotica, and want it in one package then this book is definitely for YOU. This is the compiled version of the serial Red Chrysanthemum.
Beatrice Primrose assumed the role of a Mistress at Red Chrysanthemum in order to exact her revenge on Nicholas and William Edelton who had raped her younger sister, Charlotte, which resulted in her death during childbirth.
Nicholas' older brother, Spencer Edelton, the Marquess of Carey, decided to give her the set down that she deserved for the way she treated Nicholas and William. He paid an amount of money to exact his own revenge for one whole week. Miss Primrose thought she would dominate him but she would soon learn otherwise...
Em Brown is a phenomenal writer, I simply adore her writing with the exception of her tendency to use big, complex words which I thought was quite unnecessary. I understand that not everyone will appreciate the length of the book and that the story is drawn out but I enjoyed it A LOT which is why I described this as a "guilty pleasure". I have been craving for historical erotica novels fairly recently and I found everything I wanted/needed in this book.
It was really hot, definitely intense and not for readers who are not into erotic novels with BDSM elements or find it offensive as some scenes are bordering the line of taboo as well.
I look forward to reading more from Em Brown. Hopefully she decides to write a full length novel or novella as I'm selfish and not particularly fond of serials. Lol .;)
Fascinating, Passionate and Absolutely Titillating
I was thrilled to finally find one of the most intriguing erotic reads offered as a complete set. Originally published as 20 individual short stories, the complete length is 534 pages, and as a fan of erotic historical romance, it’s one that will stay with me. Em Brown shows mastery of her craft in a well-written, sexually explosive, enthralling story with compelling lead characters. She weaves words and descriptions in this exciting and believable tale that had me reading late into the night, and I was reluctant to put down. Beware, there are lots of imaginative sexual scenes with bondage, discipline and bdsm elements, but it is not a dark romance by any means, and sex is consensual. At it’s core, it is about two head-strong lovers, both alpha-dominant personalities, who discover fulfillment of their passionate desires by each giving permission to safely change roles in the power exchange of a dom/submissive dynamic. Also, keep in mind, there are numerous rehashing of the backstory within the book to help readers keep abreast of the current affair, a side symptom of installment selling, but a little distraction from the enjoyment of this book.
Spencer Edelton, Marquess of Carey, becomes an intriguing hero because he is a good man with integrity and honor, but struggles over the discovery of his depravity, inside lies dark, passionate desires only Beatrice Primrose can entice out of him. And he finds that, he very much enjoys this illicit side of himself. This gives him complexity that makes him interesting and worthy. Towards the end, he comes to realize he admires Beatrice for her beauty, intellect, and wit. He learns the truth about Nicholas and William, and regrets his torment of Beatrice. The realization that after a week with Miss Primrose, he’s ruined for any other woman, he can’t phantom the idea of leading a life without Beatrice by his side. But will he make her wife or mistress?
Beatrice Primrose, or Mistress Primrose, is head-strong and an impressive female character. Loving sister to Charlotte, her only sibling who died in childbirth giving birth to a baby conceived in a rape, she exacts revenge upon Nicholas and William Edelton. I truly admired Beatrice’s determination, and loyalty to family. She is wanton, defiant, intelligent and completely unabashed about her desires all the while provoking and rousing Spencer to heights of passion. Spencer thinks to raise James, his new nephew, as an Edelton by providing protection. But will he take James away from Beatrice Primrose to accomplish this?
Punishing Miss Primrose is chocked full of erotic sexual scenes, passion, emotion, and scintillating dialogue, all rolled into a surprisingly romantic story with a sigh-worthy ending. Spencer and Beatrice are perfectly matched in intelligence, wit, and passion. I love that it is a cross-social class romance, thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining, and I recommend it to readers that love their historical romance with lots of sizzling chemistry and lots of bite. Great job, Ms. Brown.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
That was diverting. Even though it might have looked as PWP it had surprisingly well described emotional development that actually bring story to another level altogether. I was rooting for the couple even though all circumstances of their meeting and history could not be more against HEA finale if they tried. I'm glad they did, however unrealistic it might have been. But fantasy is a fantasy for a reason. And with so much sparkles when those two were in the same room how could they go about life as if that week has never happened. Impossible. This story is too much of a fairy-tale about it - I don't think it's physically possible to have so much craving and fucking on a such short period of time. Also marquise who didn't have any prior experience in dominating suddenly becoming an adept master knowing just how and what to do. He might be a natural and Beatrice could inspire that in him but come on! From his actions you should think he might have been usual in that Red Chrysanthemum tavern for much longer than she had. Though he clearly saw some of equipment for the fist time in his life he somehow new just how to apply it not to do any lasting damage. Peculiar. And a little unbelievable. But we agree with rules of the fantasy. So be it. The feelings behind their actions are much more interesting. You would not expect that of PWP but it transitioned from that into an captivating story where you were rooting for the couple. And sex scenes were brought to show this battle of wills as well as change of feelings toward each other. Even if a little unrealistic at times. There is one questionable scene there you might almost count as non-con, but to think about it Beatrice grounded herself to "take the punishment for what she has done". But it is still a fair warning cause it telling walks a thin line on the question of consent and willful participation from her part. I wonder if by painting her so irresistible to men author hasn't made a Mary Sue out of her but here is too much of a human in her for that. Even sketchy scenes we get manage to show us that. Besides her allure to men and her incredible stamina where his lordship is involved we see no other supernatural powers with her. And he is as much guilty of the later one if not with the first. We do not see him around any women besides heroine we only hear his own account on girls preferring his brother Nicholas to him, but this might not be complete truth. So they match each other on both accounts. It's a pity we didn't have a glimpse in Beatrice story as much as we did in Spensor's one. I was wondering how she ended up in a place in a first time. Of course she tells us she was tailing them and this way found her way into tavern, and then her plan was created but how she got to loose her innocence I wonder. She never tells. This might not be crucial to the story but it would be beneficial for her character to know the story still. Overall a very nice bunch of vignettes that flow one from each other to form a captivating story of love born in impossible circumstances.
I understand this book was released piecemeal over time so that’s why it’s repetitive and choppy. I wish the author would revise the complete work into a single book! Remove the “reader reminders” and add new scenes or dialogue or transitions!! This book is good enough to do all of that! Crazy thing, though, even with the reader reminders (you are prepped in advance as to why they occur), this book repeats FAR LESS than many “novels” i’ve read!! They are only “novel” length because they rehash each chapter or situation to remind the reader of all that’s happened prior every time something new occurs in the book! Uggh. This book only briefly mentions previous situations and isn’t too annoying or jarring. Makes me want to research adult toys of the 1800s!! Linen condoms? Ouch!
Very addictive; I had to buy the whole series as I just needed to know how it would end and more importantly witness the path taken to get there. Packed full of delicious description, a fiery chemistry between the hero and heroine and a well written plot, that absorbed me completely until the last page. The book had me entwined in each misunderstanding and enthralled by the lengths you've forced to go to to seek revenge for a loved one or find absolution. Loved it! Beatrice and Spencer's story was without a doubt both emotionally and passionately explosive and will stay with you even after the last word is read!
What a great read! I started this book as a freebie of chapter 1-5. I then purchased the complete set because it was so good. EM Brown really knows how to deliver an erotic historical romance. The story itself is so different that it hooked me straight away. I never leave spoilers so you can keep reading lol Beatrice and Spencer have such chemistry that hate and lust overlap to create a combustible read! I thoroughly enjoyed the steamy scenes but this only kept the story moving. There is a fantastic story underneath all the sexy times. I look forward to reading more from this author and I’m sure you will too after reading this book.
Beatrice’s sister was raped by two noble men. Whose parents paid the judge off so no charges were laid against them. Then her sister died given birth to her son the result of the rape. Then Beatrice vowed to get retribution from the two. Young men. Then Spencer got involved he got his uncle to take both young men away and paid for Beatrice to go to his house for a Sen night which is a week. They got close and it didn’t turn out how he hoped. I’m not going to spoil the rest only to say it is a good read.
The storyline was good, the lead male & female characters were strong but the read was long. I read it in the set version so at each beginning of the next chapters it repeated the storyline. So very repetitive sections that made the read longer & drawn out. The sex scenes were detailed & explicit so be warned that it gets intense at times. For as long as the book was the ending/conclusion was fast and not detailed. I enjoyed reading it & like Em Brien as an author. Will read more of her.
I was most curious about how they would handle all the issues. His remorse after what he did to her when he found out the truth, how he would deal with his brother when he falls in love with her. That was more interesting than all the sex and fantasies, and there was a lot, over and over again. I do enjoy that part or I wouldn't have started this book, but I doubt these two could walk after not even one week together the way the went at it.
Well it has a lot of Sex with a seemingly constantly horny and erected man, and - being published as a serial earlier - some facts are repeated too often.
But that's whining on highest level. The story is believable, the characters are great, the historical setting is great, and the story has an ending with no more loose threads.
Wow what an epic love story, i love historical storys with their old wordings.. EM Brown knows how to get you in with these stories that she writes and this one is a doosey. With Primrose and Spencer they start of on a really rocky start and end with both of them ready to walk down the isle.. loved it so much
Esse deu calor Uma vingança, Na verdade duas A irmã de uma guria estuprada decide se vingar dos agressores sendo a dominadora deles, o irmao de um deles decide se vingar dela dominando-a. Great plot and characters. Crime and retribution mixed with lust and desire. What could go wrong? Falling in love with the one you seek vengeance against. Then finding out the your vengeance is miss-placed! Emily Brown at her best.
A wonderful erotic story It is few an far between reads that you find a great story line in an erotic book but this book has it A must read Once started you will not want to put it down
This book series is crazy, but above all a guilty pleasure. At some point, the plot involving the sister’s child becomes more interesting than Miss Primrose’s “punishment” but still recommended for fans of the genre.
I went into this with no expectations as I reveiced the first few chapters for free. It didn't take me long to need the rest of the series! Purchased the entire thing and was not mad at the results.
3.75 stars are what I will give this series. I don't know about the historical accuracy of the BDSM lifestyle or toys used, but it was a titillating story, with well researched kinky proclivities. Quite steamy, with every third or fourth page containing a descriptive sex scene!
The story of Beatrice and the Marquess of Carey is dark, full of many sexual scenes that are quite steamy! He is out to punish her and doesn’t realize how cruel he can actually become. Very difficult to read at some points but I couldn’t put it down.
Definite guilty pleasure. It didn’t wow me overall and seemed more… mechanical?, but I enjoyed the story itself. I thought it was a decent Victorian romance, and it didn’t shy away from going into all the erotic details.
I would have given this book a higher rating if it had not ended so abruptly just as it was getting interesting. I am assuming one has to buy the next book in order to find out the ending. Most unfair
A good read in the period that it was situated in, loved the literature voice of old English. I read this book quite a while ago, just forgot to write a review.
Can you say jaw dropping, drool inducing, cannot stop reading, one heck of a good time read? This book was everything I could have ever wanted it to be and more!! ❤
This was just as hot as expected. I was a bit surprised at how well it stayed true the "historical" claim. The verbiage was fun.
The romance? As usual the main characters did not communicate well - er, really at all. But wow! Did they burn up the pages. Be prepared with a tall glass of something cold or take other cooling off methods. It is that hot.
Oh yes, if you find yourself at all offended by kink of any kind, give this a pass. This is a very kinky book. I was pleased to find that in spite of the graphic kink, there was also a bit of a story. An actual believable story for the era even.
Enjoyed this greatly. Wonderful bed time reading. Pleasant dreams.
Hey fellow readers I don’t summarize the books (as there are always great full summaries written that I read myself).
I only give it my personal, general, summary of 5 stars to 1 star.
3 stars: This book is worth a read but didn’t really have me excited about interacting with the book where I could not put it down. It lacks the excitement and well roundness of my personal markers for a great read throughout the book.
Development and interest in main characters, secondary characters, humorous, movement of the book, writing/conversation and romantic/sexual content (1-2 scenes or too much unnecessary).
Read it once and that is enough for me.
However, if this book is part of a series, I would read the next book (pervious book) in the series as it would still peek my reading interest.
I’ll continue reading from this author. I wouldn’t cross the author out of my potential reads in the future.
Story is of Beatrice Primrose Mistress Primrose as she is called, accepts an invitation from Spencer Edelton, the Marquees of Carey what she does not know that he is going to make her pay for the damage she has done to his brother Nicholas Edelton. She must submit to Spencer . Will they ever get a happy ending ? I could not put this book down! I was gifted a copy for an honest review barwatts@telus.net
For centuries men have follow their dicks, nothing new here. Just a week of nothing but sex and torture and falling in love is unbelievable but I have seen men leave their wife for much less. Ok, all the sex became boring to me, had to skip through much, more interesting was the mystery of her sister and his brother, and why she took the position. That part was worth reading.
