Twenty Three Years: A Hell's Pass Love Story Book 1

Rate this book
In the scorched heart of 1843 Texas, eight year old Cade Wilson swore a boy’s impossible he would build Bella a cabin, plant sunflowers that bowed to no drought, and love her so fiercely that cruelty could never touch her.

But fate was merciless. One night shattered it all. Screams lost to the mesquite, blood soaking into the dust, and Bella torn from his arms into slavery while Cade lay broken among the dead.

Now a man hardened by loss, Cade has carried that vow across decades. Through the shadow of his family’s plantation and the scars of a nation ripping itself apart, he has never surrendered his devotion. He dreams of a sanctuary in the Arkansas mountains where Bella might one day be safe, where the girl who once glowed brighter than sunflowers can finally bloom again.

Bella, born of mixed blood, has spent her life in the in too light to be accepted, too dark to be free. Chains have stolen her language, her body, her years. To her, Cade is no longer a boy of promises but a ghost stitched to memory. And as she faces sale to the cruelest master yet, she prepares for her final surrender.

But some screams echo longer than silence. And Cade hears hers again.

What follows is no simple rescue. It is a reckoning. To reach her, Cade must wield more than rage and fire, he must learn the strength of patience, the gentleness of a love scarred but unbroken. Together, they must carve a future from grief, where even in broken soil, sunflowers can rise.

Twenty Three Years is a love story forged in suffering yet unyielding in hope, about vows that outlive the flesh, and a devotion that refuses to die.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. The only words that come to my mind when trying to describe it is hauntingly beautiful. I received an ARC copy and honestly was expecting a regular western story, but this one... Cade and Bella's story really does stretch the bounds of time. I don't want to give anything away with my review, so all I will say is READ IT! The author did so well capturing the emotions and vivid descriptions. I felt like I was watching a movie with each page turned.

I hope that the author continues to write, and that more characters from this book get their own stories. I can also say that the steamy scenes are very well done ;).
