A collection of essays in where the author describes her own journey with pregnancy, birth and motherhood. There were so many things I could relate to and I just love the humor and the passion in her writing and also her opinions regarding the role of women (and men) in society. I hesitate to call them “modern”, they are just “up to date” while too many men in Japan (and outside of Japan) have opinions that seem to be out of date. I don’t think this book has been translated yet into English. Hopefully it will be soon.
An intimate and emotional collection of diary style essays detailing the author's pregnancy and childbirth experience. I particularly enjoyed the way she describes her feelings of fear and anger during the process with compassionate honesty, and her thoughts on gender equality in Japan. She is an incredible fiction writer and her delicate sensibility really shows. She also has a great sense of humour! A great read.
