If Detective Virgil Jones had to pick one word to define his life of late, that word would be change. Lance Irwin, the new governor, has shuttered the Major Crimes Unit, and Virgil and his entire team have had to redefine their careers. No longer detectives for the state, Virgil and his brother, Murton Wheeler, decide to go back to basics and reopen their private investigations firm.
But after handling any number of divorce cases and insurance claims, Virgil feels like he needs the type of case that will put their firm on the map. Except what Virgil doesn’t realize is that he should be a little more careful with his wishes, because sometimes they come true…
When a woman named Paula Buckner walks into Virgil and Murton’s firm, she asks them to do something that goes against their very nature. She wants Virgil and Murton to go from cops to criminals and pull off a heist that is all but impossible. And the payout if they succeed? A cool half-million dollars…
And let’s not forget the new governor, because he has a problem of his own…and when he turns to Virgil and Murton for help, it sets off a chain of events that has repercussions not only for the governor’s office, but for the entire state as well.

So many action stories within the true story and you must keep up. It all comes together in the end and I won't tell you what it is. This bunch of friends and friends of friends is not to be messed with. So much thought and presence of mind goes into this book by Thomas Scott and all his other books which I have all read. Thank you Thomas Scott but please make your books longer! I tend to read each one all at once. Left me hanging on this one can't wait for number 26 the letter Z. Must be for zealous.
I knew that this was going to be a bit different from the previous stories, especially after their unit was forced to close. However, it was strange that it was almost business as usual....but not. Lol! Yeah, I'm sure that made perfect sense. You'll certainly understand when you read this book. I loved some of the changes, questioned others, but overall the family is still very much together and happy, for the most part. It's not a story or series to be missed! I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.
I really hope to see many more stories in this awesome series!
As usual, Virgil and his crew deliver an exciting adventure for the reader. Recommend to readers who enjoy dismantling a puzzle with the help of some amazing characters. Scott creates memorable characters that one can't help liking. Dialogue is memorable. Repartee among the group, especially Virgil and his counterparts keeps the reader enjoying the adventure. Highly recommend. Can't wait for the next adventure to begin. Thanks for a great read.
Oh my, this one had an element I did not see coming. I have avidly read each one of these books as soon as it was released and each one left me hanging impatiently for the next release date. Like another reviewer, I just wish they were longer! The cast of characters is so lovable and you become invested in their lives from the first book. I am amazed that Thomas has so many moving parts to each book and keeps them all perfectly straight and brings them to a logical, neat conclusion. It’s going to crush me when the last book comes out…I love these characters so much!!
Of the many mystery series I've read, this tops my list. The character depth, the plot lines, the twists and turns, are all stellar. I not only engage, I feel like part of the extended family. Just hard to get any sleep once I've started another book in this series. Each and every one, A "can't put it down" book, with real life lessons to learn if you're listening to what's both said and unsaid.
I always love this series of books. This one is another page turner and definitely gets you in the heart with the emotional pieces.
So much so I felt I had to give it a review. This whole series is worth a read, great characters, storylines and is very well put together. I truly hope this series goes on for years. :)
Tom Scott captures the essence of being a police officer or government investigator. All the politicians with their. B.S. I am a retired police officer and a retired govt investigator. State of Government craziness is captured in every tale Tom spins. Very enjoyable reads all 25. RDN
Mr. Scott has done it again with State of Yield! The story grabbed me from the first page and did not disappoint. So much action and the characters were on point doing what they do but I can't say more so I won't spoil this book for others. I look forward to book 26...as I am sure so many others do!
I've read all of this series so far and I've thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. They feel like family! I to be able to enjoy many more of Virgil and his band of merry men and women, Sheriff's and geeks, all those who keep these stories so interesting I'm always looking for the next one.
The best one yet. I look forward to each and every book in this series. This one had a lot of moving parts. It kept me on the edge right up to the last word, heaven. I can't wait for the next one, just hoping I don't end up in tears again.
I have read all of this series so far and think like this one the best. Easier to follow than some of its predecessors while continuing to be just as riveting. Hopefully this series will never end
Mr Scott the author always pulls you right into the action. Virgil and the gang are pretty good players Another home run out of the park Looking forward to #26…….
FOR ME A BOOK HAS TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO MAKE ME WANT TO READ IT, EACH SENTENCE HAS TO DRAW ME IN AND MAKE ME WANT TO REALLY READ THE NEXT SENTENCE. THIS AUTHOR DOES THAT FOR ME. THAT WOULD BE WHY THIS IS THE 25TH BOOK IN THE SERIES I'VE READ. AS LONG AS MR. SCOTT WRITES'EM I'LL KEEP READING'EM. ;D
Thomas Scott is one of the finest authors I have had the pleasure to read. His Virgil Jones series has been the most enjoyable series of mine in a long while. Can’t go wrong with these stories.
