I rarely leave bad reviews, but this book is an exception. It started out with a few interesting ideas, but you get a few pages in and realize it’s not researched, the plot happens illogically and at a pace that makes literally no sense, and it commits the worst sin of all to me: an extremely boring Elizabeth Bennet. She has nothing interesting or clever to say for herself, and that’s kind of the whole point of the original: Lizzy Bennet is a fascinating person, so fascinating that she makes an insanely good match.
I am a huge fan of pride and prejudice, and have read a lot of retellings. This is not one of those. It’s a reimagining. It is a lot like fan fic. I didn’t hate it, but I did hate how some of the characters from the original were portrayed. And so many men who just can’t help themselves around someone as beautiful as Elizabeth was quite unbelievable it was readable and I finished it, so I give it three stars for that reason
Interesting take on this classic story. Mrs. Bennett - well, she’s something else and not what you would expect. The Bennett sisters, with the exception of Elizabeth, have some intelligence and gumption. Totally enjoyed this read!!
