"Do you want to play a game?"

Five teenagers, Ghost Raiders from the Jersey Shore take part in the Call of Duty esports final. Watched by millions, they suffer defeat by the Black Suns and humiliation by the mysterious game host, The Reaper.

As the team disintegrates in a bitter game of blame, Ty is offered the chance of a lifetime, online late at night on discord.

"Do you and your team want to test a beta game by Activision?"

Before they can play, they need to solve five cryptic clues, finding hidden encrypted keys to play the game. Each clue leads to further danger.

With the keys, the Ghost Raiders unlock the game. An ultra realistic, virtual reality game simulating drone combat. But as the missions become so realistic, the game starts to affect their mental health. Nightmares haunt their sleep. And they wonder. Is this really only a video game?

The truth becomes clear.

The Ghost Raiders have been manipulated to become killing machines in the bloody Ukraine war.

And now, Russian mercenaries have traced the Ghost Raiders.

"We know where you live!"

The real war comes home when the Ghost Raiders are hunted by Dragunov and his Russian mercenaries, across a wild rollercoaster chase across New Jersey and New York City.

This book is inspired by the 1983 movie WarGames.

In 1983, Wargames portrayed a young hacker breaking into a military computer.

Ghost Raiders is Wargames for the 21st Century, mixed with a dark Black Mirror near future.

This is Ender's Game but with real technology merging virtual reality with drone warfare, and the mental terrors that come with this new age of warfare.

This is today's reality where virtual reality warfare could be real, and teenagers become unwitting killers.
