I read this book in one day, practically in one sitting! Not because it was a work of literary art (in fact, in the beginning it actually seemed a bit shaky to me in the way it was written) but because it was open, honest and written from the heart. That means more to me than anything else. While reading you felt like you were walking alongside Kevin while he told the story. And if he forgot a detail, he'd go back and fill its in!

"I signed the papers to approve an experiment that would either kill me or kill the disease. This time next year there would be a victory. I prayed it would be mine."

At 18, what courage and strength it takes to approach such a overwhelming obstacle head on.

“Fame conjures up thoughts of being some untouchable, self-absorbed icon that keeps everyone at arm’s length. That is not who I am. I strive to be solely familiar."

Familiarity instead of famous is such a refreshing concept. To be known simply for who he was all Kevin wanted. The real him. Nothing else mattered. Fame was irrelevant.

I'm so glad I got the chance to read this book and I can say that, though I never knew him personally, I feel like I do now.

Rest in peace, Kevin.

Let me start off by saying that Kevin Sharp was a gifted, talented singer who should be recorded more than three CDs. The record companies made a mistake by passing on such a wonderful voice.

Now about this book - It is a honest and inspiring story of his life. Through all the ups and downs he remained upbeat and focused on survival. I wish I could have heard him speak because I'm sure I would have been laughing and crying at the same time. I love the story of the drive-thru restaurant and his inspirational messages about hope. One quote especially I will remember is "Hope is the gift that God has given us to make it to tomorrow". That is the best definition of hope I have heard.

Quick read about this young man's experience of recovering from cancer. Particularly illuminating was how many challenges were left to deal with after the cancer was in remission. Prior to reading his story I considered remission to be the goal and the finish line, so to speak. Through Kevin's story I began to understand why I've heard reference to the challenges of survivorship. The story is well worth the read, though the writing only warrants three stars on my bookshelf.

A moving story about Kevin sharp's battle with cancer and his success in music. I gave this book four stars , not because of the story but because the spelling mistakes were numerous and rushed through. All and all I would read this again :)

autobiography of country singer Kevin Sharp – relates his fight against life threatening cancer and it’s negative, then positive aftermath – real, truthful but not very full or rich
