Did I finish Arc 2 or did it finish me? The ending of this arc had me bawling- as if I wasn't already crying enough during it.

Where can I find me a Hua Cheng? That was obviously rhetoric because- and I don't even feel bad saying this- but all other book boyfriends FAIL, absolutely, completely, horrendously FAIL in front of the perfection that is Hua Cheng.

The three thousand lanterns scene is forever going to be ingrained in my heart, like Xie Lian, sweetie, HOW DO YOU NOT SEE HE'S IN LOVE WITH YOU AND YOU'RE IN LOVE WITH HIM???

I don't really care for flashbacks but this time, I was invested and idk if it was because it was actually really good or if I am just biased. Regardless, the past chapters broke my heart in more ways than one. But, I also loved those because as much as they were heartbreaking, they also made me love HuaLian together more because they. are. really. soulmates.

Xie Lian has become one of my all-time favourite characters ohmygod I wanna hug him and protect him at all costs. I love Hua Cheng more for being there for him every step of the way.

AND THAT KISS??? OH GOD MY HEART COULDNT HANDLE IT XIE LIAN YOU WERENT THE ONLY ONE FREAKING OUT WHEN THAT HAPPENED 😭

this was so grueling and miserable until suddenly it wasn’t at all. MXTX really has a gift for dragging me kicking and groaning through flashbacks i don’t wanna have to care about, until eventually i start putting together interesting information and really enjoying the plot in the past—at which point we smash cut back to the present. and then the present is so delightful i can’t even really be mad.

the only real thought i’m thinking here is: is daoism fatalistic? was the state preceptor of xianle right when he said "in this world, fortune—good or bad—is predetermined?" that struck me as so horrible and kind of reminiscent of calvinism honestly (like double predestination, yk) but it seems to be backed up by physics. what does that mean for our characters?? suddenly i’m stressing about free will for the first time in my life.

oh, and my other thought is i love being right about things :D

i wanna leave you with a series of ao3-style tags to really sum up how insane a plot whirlwind this book was. shoutout to the publishers of the english translation for bravely refusing to divide the volumes in a way that’d make any kind of sense.

4,5 'flowers and lanterns' stars



This vol emotionally destroyed me. Especially the part from arc 2. I'm not gonna lie, I struggled a bit with this part. I mean, listening to morning news first thing in the morning (just depressing), then going through so much bullshit at work (mostly tiresome and annoying) and then reading this book (😭😭) it's safe to say it's a recipe for 'kill me now' mood.

However, despite depressing story arc I also found this part really interesting. Especially discussions between Xie Lian and state perceptor about destiny and inpact it has on everything, if you try to change it. Again, heavy and depressing theme but it made me think about it a lot.

Another positive thing from this arc was tiny cute Hua Cheng. I just wanted to squishy hug my baby.

Again Xie Lian wanted to say "that's right" - but this time, endless streams of crystalline air bubbles suddenly floated before his eyes. The way Hua Cheng's scimitar, Eming, practically purrs whenever it's coddled and cooed at by Xie Lian, and an excitable Ruoye gave me cutie playful vibes when Hualian made Puqi shrine even cosier with their ust 💓 ahhhh I'm melting it's so smushy and delicious these precious boys 💞

I'm just in fkin love with this loveable as fk series, and I'm straight up caught somewhere between wanting to binge it all in one go and reading it for the first time forever and ever 💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨

How can I explain to someone the fact that I can not and, in fact, will not stop thinking about this series or associating every little thing in my life with this book? Par example:

My MBTI is INFJ, you know who has that same mbti? Yeah, Xie Lian. Saw a butterfly? Oh, Hua Cheng. You love food? Oh, Ming Yi also loves food. A filthy joke? Yeah, Qi Rong would appreciate that joke. You love women? Pei Ming also does, maybe too much.

Yeah I live for this book. I don't think any book has had such a deep effect on my life. No, I'm sure about it actually. But... I'm not ready for Arc 4. Not one bit ready.

This is not an eloquent review, but when have I ever been eloquent when I love something this much?

Esto más que una reseña es desahogo y fangirleo. Capaz más tarde le dé forma de reseña.

Aprobé todos mis finales❤️‍🩹​, así que oficialmente estoy de vacaciones. En este momento, tengo los ojos irritados por el sueño, pero acá me tienen. Prosigo a hacer una devolución de este libro fantástico que me ayudó a superar tantas horas de estudio. Ténganme paciencia porque es —hasta el momento— el mejor de la saga y tengo muchas cosas para decir al respecto. Ya sé que las reseñas no deberían ser tan largas, pero no me importa: ustedes decidieron seguirme (mentira, leanme, se los suplico).

Para empezar, quiero decir que, aunque este tercer libro no se sintió más largo que los anteriores, pasaron muchísimas más cosas. Pasado y presente mezclados, toneladas de data, mil detalles para procesar. Y entre todo eso, aparece el capítulo más triste de la historia: un pueblo entero traicionado por su propio reino y Xie Lian viéndose incapaz de evitar la catástrofe. Soldados matando a las personas que se suponía debían proteger (la historia que siempre se repite, ¿no?).

Odio a la Calamidad de Blanco que Asola el Mundo. Odio al Cultivador de Xianle. Odio que todos crean que todo lo malo que pasa es responsabilidad de Xie Lian y odio que él cargue con ese peso como si tuvieran razón. Nadie debería haberlo hecho sentir culpable por no poder proteger a su gente, después de todo lo que dio para que estuvieran bien. Y odié con todo mi ser a los contaminados con la Peste de los Rostros gritándole, exigiéndole que “hiciera algo” y RECRIMINÁNDOLE, porque hicieron que Xie Lian en serio creyera que era su culpa, que él había fallado. ¿CÓMO LES DA LA CARA?

¿Y la escena donde Xie Lian se dobla el dobillo, siendo un dios? Una bala dolía menos. Nadie merece ser alzado tan arriba para después ser dejado caer cuando no cumple con sus expectativas.

Y encima el fucking Cultivador del Reino que le mete en la cabeza esa idea nefasta de que desafiar al destino atrae toda esa desgracia y por eso Xie Lian es responsable de que haya aparecido la Calamidad vestida de blanco que asola el mundo!!! Lo quiero preso, no me importa nada. Me da igual sus reglas de no intervención, el dao y el destino. Fuck el daoísmo. Xie Lian tiene un corazón enorme y se merecía mucho más.

Y en el medio de toda esa oscuridad, por dios, la única luz fue 💙​Feng Xin💙​, siempre intentando defenderlo, y nuestro querido Hua Cheng versión niño, tan dispuesto siempre a interponerse entre una espada y Xie Lian —de quien voy a hablar más adelante—.

Pero primero, hablemos un poco de esta relación entre Xie Lian y Feng Xin que ME TIENE MAL.

En el pasado, Feng Xin no solo era fiel: amaba a Xie Lian. Exceptuando a cierta persona y a su propia madre, probablemente fue el único que se preocupaba por él de verdad y que lo demostraba sin reservas. Y no creo que fuera solo porque Xie Lian era su príncipe y él su subordinado. Tantos años juntos hicieron que Feng Xin lo quisiera de corazón. Me gusta pensar que eran lo más parecido a una amistad que Xie Lian pudo tener siendo el heredero de Xianle.

Por eso, me duele muchísimo ver lo que son ahora, ochocientos años después: tienen una relación tensa, con una distancia enorme y llena de cosas no dichas (ellos necesitan hablar. No sé de qué, pero necesitan hablar). Sabemos que cuando descendieron por primera vez vivieron situaciones terribles, y era inevitable que las cosas entre ellos cambiaran, pero me rompe un poco pensar en qué tuvo que pasar para que Feng Xin decidiera tomar otro camino. ¿Qué pasó para que en el presente apenas puedan hablar entre sí? ¿Cómo una relación tan fuerte se transformó en eso?

Pero lo importante es que aunque la relación esté rota, todavía hay esperanza, no todo está perdido. Hay momentos en los que se nota que todavía se preocupan el uno por el otro y me emociona cada vez que Feng Xin se acerca a hablarle, aunque sea por algo mínimo como preguntarle si va a sentarse ahí o felicitarlo por ganar una competencia de “farolillos” (odio las ediciones de España, pero tampoco sabría cómo les decimos acá: ¿globos de deseos? ¿globos de papel? Son hermosos, pero no los tiren, ¡provocan incendios!). El personaje de Feng Xin me da mucha ternura y le tengo mucho aprecio; no veo la hora de leer esa reconciliación (porque me niego a que no haya una).

Me imagino que para Feng Xin fue devastador ver caer al príncipe que había idealizado toda su vida. Después de tanto tiempo en la calle, en la miseria, seguramente con muchas desilusiones, imagino que se dio cuenta de que había convertido a Xie Lian en algo más de lo que era: en un héroe digno, glorioso y omnipotente, un ideal que ningún ser humano (ni dios) puede mantener para siempre. Y estoy segura de que Xie Lian quería —aunque fuera inconscientemente— estar a la altura de ese ideal, pero teniendo en cuenta que cuando ascendió por segunda vez quería golpear a todos, él estaba viviendo el peor momento de su vida.

Esto me lleva a cuestionar si alguna vez era posible que Xie Lian tuviera alguna relación real con alguien antes de su descenso: Feng Xin siempre fue su subordinado, incluso cuando ambos ascendieron al Cielo. La diferencia de posiciones era muy grande. Por eso me parece tan importante que Xie Lian haya descendido, aunque sea la primera vez. Perder el estatus que tuvo desde que nació lo obligó a relacionarse desde otro lugar, siendo todos sus iguales. Creo que es algo parecido a lo que pasa con sus creyentes: si nadie le reza, si nadie cree en él, entonces nadie espera nada de él. Y esa ausencia de expectativas le permite, por primera vez, crear vínculos que no dependen de su título ni de su “divinidad”. Creo que Feng Xin, después de acompañarlo tantos años, se permitió verlo como lo quien Xie Lian realmente es, pasó algo y Feng Xin dejó de glorificarlo y rompió su relación. Pero ahora que están de igual a igual pueden empezar POR FIN a construir algo real (les tengo fe).

Y ya que hablamos de relaciones condicionadas por la idealización… bueno, también podemos hablar de Hua Cheng. Y por favor, no me cancelen por esto. Leanme con la mente abierta. Hasta donde vimos, Hua Cheng adoró a Xie Lian desde que era un niño DE SOLO DIEZ AÑOS y siguió haciéndolo incluso después de sus ascensos y descensos. Ochocientos años después, son “iguales”… sí, pero Hua Cheng todavía lo venera como lo hacía ese niño de diez años. Por dios, le construyó un fucking templo. Entiendo que fue un gesto súper hermoso, pero ¿soy la única que le parece un poco raro, sino problemático? Hua Cheng lo protege como lo hacía (a sus solo catorce años) en las batallas contra la gente de Yong’an y contra las diablas florales en el pueblo de Las Delicias. Lo mira y lo adora como a un dios. Yo no me olvido de ese niño, completamente solo en el mundo, gritándole a Xie Lian que nunca iba a olvidarlo, que él siempre iba a ser su único dios. Y ocho siglos después sigue cumpliendo esa promesa. Es súper fuerte y hermoso… pero ¿Hua Cheng está enamorado posta? ¿O es un amor de devoto, de creyente, de alguien que se aferra a su dios porque ese dios fue la única luz en su vida? No nos olvidemos de que la pasión que un seguidor puede sentir por su dios es enorme, a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad hubieron miles de personas capaces de dar su vida por ellos.

Y Xie Lian… seamos honestas: Xie Lian apenas lo conoce. Sí, vivieron situaciones de vida o muerte, y sí se está encariñando con Hua Cheng de una manera súper dulce, que me encanta… pero apenas lo conoce. Empecemos con que Hua Cheng es una persona muy especial. NO ME ODIEN. Pero che, él tiene momentos en los que —puede que tengan explicación, pero de momento no la hay— se vuelve frío y distante, se cierra por completo. Se me ocurre como ejemplo el primer libro, cuando Xie Lian le saca la serpiente del brazo y Hua Cheng deja de hablarle hasta que caen en la cueva de la Media Luna. Y en general, Hua Cheng es este tipo de personaje “oscuro” y “misterioso” del que no sabemos nada. Sabemos que tiene un crush enorme con Xie Lian, que lo adora como a un dios, pero su principal rasgo es que siempre parece saber cosas que nosotros —y por consiguiente Xie Lian— no. Ni siquiera hablo de que nunca le dijo que se conocieron ochocientos años antes —porque puede tener sus motivos—, pero ¡¡¡no se comunica!!! No se abre nunca con Xie Lian y si no fuera por lo que conocemos de su pasado no tenemos idea de qué hay adentro de esa cabeza suya. Todo es extremadamente vago. Hua Cheng nunca le dijo qué era ese anillo que le dio, ni explicó por qué “lo secuestró” de la Corte Celestial, ni cómo (carajo) funcionan los dados que lo teletransportan a Xie Lian para todos lados, ni qué fue esa escena donde le “enseñó” a tirar dados en la Ciudad Fantasma, o por qué (SPOILER) lo forzó a besarlo cuando este se estaba escondiendo del espíritu fetal, o cómo lo encontró ahí en primer lugar (Xie Lian le preguntó y Hua Cheng nunca se dignó a responder).

Y sí: (SPOILER) ese beso. ¿Qué carajo fue eso? Xie Lian lo perdonó; yo no. Por dios, Xie Lian hasta se sintió culpable por haber reaccionado “de forma exagerada” cuando estaba en shock Y LE PIDIÓ PERDÓN. Y sí, Hua Cheng se disculpó, pero ni siquiera explicó por qué lo hacía o por qué lo había besado en primer lugar. Xie Lian quería desaparecer y huir de él justo después de *lo ocurrido*, y Hua Cheng lo alzó en contra de su voluntad y se lo llevó a la casa de la Alegría Suprema para curarle el tobillo (que se dobló intentando, de nuevo, huir de él). No, yo no lo perdono ni con ocho siglos de reverencia atrás. ¿Quién hace eso?

Pero bueno, dejando a Hua Cheng un segundo de lado, hay otra relación bastante complicada que también me llama la atención: Feng Xin y Mu Qing. Qué relación más rara tienen estos dos, ¿no? En el presente, ni hablar: se odian, punto. ¿Pero ochocientos años antes? Feng Xin está enojado porque está convencido de que Mu Qing odia a Xie Lian y piensa lo peor de él; está convencido de que Mu Qing solo sigue a su lado para usarlo y ascender. Y, ¿honestamente? es un argumento convincente, porque no es que Mu Qing actúe como si se preocupara de verdad por Xie Lian. Pero ahí hay algo raro. ¿Mu Qing odia a Feng Xin porque lo pone en evidencia? Me hace mucho ruido.

Creo que Mu Qing odia a Feng Xin por nunca haberle dado la oportunidad de demostrar que “es mejor” que un ladrón o un chanta, representando de alguna manera a todas las personas que siempre lo prejuzgaron por su clase social. Pero también creo que lo odia porque él mismo se siente inseguro acerca de sí mismo, y Feng Xin se la pasa recordándole que haga lo que haga nunca va a ser lo suficientemente bueno como para merecer un puesto tan cercano al príncipe heredero, para merecer que Xie Lian confíe en él, y, por supuesto, que nunca va a ser lo suficientemente bueno como para merecer ascender al Cielo. Es una teoría.

Otra teoría: Feng Xin tiene razón y Mu Qing odia a Xie Lian por cuestiones de clase. Odia que Xie Lian tenga tanto sin tener que hacer nada, que todos lo amen (sobre todo después de su primer ascenso), y cree que no lo merece porque ni siquiera está dispuesto a tomar las decisiones que debería. Después de todo, Mu Qing y Feng Xin fueron los que se hicieron cargo de escuchar los pedidos de los seguidores en los templos de Xie Lian mientras él estaba en Yong’an haciendo que lloviera como si eso fuera a solucionar algo. Y ni hablar de cuando Mu Qing se enojó porque sabían cómo terminar con la peste de los rostros, pero Xie Lian no tenía el estómago para tomar esa decisión.

Quiero decir, está claro que a Mu Qing siempre le afectó la cuestión de clase porque, no solo fue objeto de burla por eso, sino que además le llevaba frutas a su familia y ayudaba a los chicos que le pedían comida donde vivía. Y no es que Mu Qing pudiera decir lo que realmente pensaba, siendo que su puesto siempre fue débil porque todos lo odiaban y dependía solo de que Xie Lian quisiera tenerlo ahí.

AHORA BIEN. Cambio de tema abrupto porque la relación de Feng Xin y Mu Qing no es la más complicada que encontramos en este libro y quiero hablar un poco sobre Shi Qingxuan y Shi Wudu. Justo este es el tipo de dinámicas que más me destruyen y no puedo no hablar al respecto. La reseña se me hizo larguísima y pido disculpas, pero ¿qué esperaban?

​💕Shi Qingxuan​💕 es una persona alegre, un poco imprudente, súper sociable, afectuoso, un verdadero espíritu libre. ¿Pero saben qué es lo malo? Que pareciera que todo el mundo ama a Shi Qingxuan menos Shi Wudu. PERO ES MENTIRA. Yo lo sé y ustedes también. Si Shi Wudu realmente odiara a su hermano menor, nadie no se atrevería a meterse con Shi Qingxuan por miedo a su ira. Shi Wudu, como todo hermano mayor que se precia, lo ama y quiere protegerlo. Me niego a aceptar lo contrario.

Cuando eran niños eso se notaba todavía más. Shi Wudu huyó con él para cuidarlo del Inmortal de Elocuencia Simple. Lo dejó todo por él y lo consolaba cuando estaba asustado. Y en el presente sigue intentando alejarlo del peligro.

Entonces, la pregunta del millón: ¿por qué actúa como si no le importara? ¿Por qué trata a Shi Qingxuan como si no mereciera ser feliz, como si no fuera alguien de quien estar orgulloso, como si no lo quisiera? ¿Qué hizo Shi Qingxuan? ¿O acaso Shi Wudu cree que, al tratarlo así, lo está protegiendo de algo más? Muchas preguntas… y solo una posible respuesta que no me cierra del todo: Shi Wudu odia que su hermano menor ame tanto metamorfosearse en cuerpos femeninos. Y sí, podría ser transfobia (si en este mundo existe el machismo, ¿por qué no la transfobia?), pero no creo que sea eso. O capaz solo espero que no sea eso.

Shi Qingxuan haciéndose pasar por mujer empezó como un disfraz necesario, una forma de ocultarse porque no podía defenderse, y creo que Shi Wudu todavía ve a ese niño vulnerable y débil cada vez que lo ve en una forma femenina. ¿Realmente Shi Wudu se siente avergonzado de su hermano? ¿O es que eso solo le trae recuerdos de un momento en el que ni él mismo podía cuidarlo? ¿No será que está enojado porque, aún siendo dioses, sigue sin poder defenderlo del Inmortal de Elocuencia Simple, y ver a Qingxuan en cuerpos femeninos se siente como una cachetada, un recordatorio de cuando Wudu falló?

¿O estoy siendo muy ingenua?

…ahora sí, voy a desahogarme acerca de Xie Lian y Hua Cheng, ignorando por completo la escena del beso porque no tengo idea de cómo van a justificarla en el próximo libro (si es que siquiera intentan justificarla alguna vez).

Quiero llorar de solo pensar en Hua Cheng. Ese niño sin familia, sin amigos, sin nadie que se preocupe por él. Una sola persona —y después deidad— lo miró con compasión y Hua Cheng nunca lo olvidó. Fue a rezarle todos los días, quedándose a dormir en el templo de Xie Lian porque no quería volver a casa, hambriento como nadie debería estar nunca. Y aun así, ese niño encontraba fuerzas para llenar, día tras día, el hueco de la mano rota de la estatua de Xie Lian con una flor fresca. Incluso los días que llovía y él no tenía paraguas. ¿Entienden que Xie Lian fue la única luz en toda su tristísima vida? Porque yo todavía sigo en shock.

Este niño quería morirse y Xie Lian se convirtió en su motivo para seguir viviendo. Prometió no olvidarlo, prometió construirle los templos más hermosos. Y cuando Xie Lian fue al Pueblo de las Delicias, Hua Cheng agarró una espada y se escondió para seguirlo. ¡A XIE LIAN! UN DIOS DE LA GUERRA. Hua Cheng realmente creía que podía protegerlo y lo hizo sin dudarlo un segundo, porque ese era su propósito: vivir para él. Si no era para Xie Lian, no quería vivir en absoluto.

Y cuando allá todo se volvió peligroso, Xie Lian le dio la oportunidad de irse… pero este chico de solo catorce años se negó a abandonar a —de nuevo— el fucking dios de la Guerra.

Y en la cueva, atrapados por las Diablas Florales, Hua Cheng no entendía nada, pero obedecía cada palabra de Xie Lian como si fuera ley divina. ¿Xie Lian decía “no entres”? No entraba. ¿Le decía “entrá”? Entraba. Confiaba en él con una devoción que cualquier otra persona con dos dedos de frente hubiera considerado una locura. Hua Cheng era un niño confundido, perdido, pero puso su vida en las manos de Xie Lian desde el primer momento.

Y ochocientos años después, le ofrece la mano para bajar del carruaje. Lo alza para que no toque el suelo de una cueva llena de cadáveres “para que no se ensucie”. Le dice cuál es la forma en que un fantasma como él puede morir —literalmente, le entrega en bandeja la forma de matarlo si alguna vez quisiera hacerlo—. Le muestra su apariencia real, algo que nunca le había confiado a nadie. Lo secuestra de la Corte Celestial porque lo estaban juzgando injustamente. Le construye un templo en la Ciudad Fantasma solo para encender tres mil globos de papel y que no se aburriera durante el Banquete de Otoño del Cielo. Y ocho siglos después, todavía no puede dejarlo ir solo a una misión para enfrentarse a un fantasma —ni siquiera acompañado por otros dioses—.

Um, more of HuaLian please, miss ma'am.

The third book continues in the past during Xie Lian's first ascension and downfall. It was a little bit slower with all the angst and pain and everything bad happening getting worst for Xie Lian. We also see the origins of the human face disease, the half-smiling, half-crying white creature, and smol Hua Cheng.

Once it switches back to present I was back on board! A few of the Banyue characters return, the storylines coming back and connecting mingled with some of Xie Lian's past 800 years ago. And ends with a new mystery with Shi Qingxuan that will most likely connect to everything.

• Always great to see Hua Cheng being absolutely disgusting with everyone and an absolute gentleman around Xie Lian.
• The duality in this man—destructive wraith feared by all Ghost King and washing dishes househusband is peak humor. He's an absolute simp!
• I would just like Xie Lan to live out his peaceful cottage core life that he deserves!
• He just wants to be rammed by Hua Cheng! He wants to arch that back and be worshipped on a table!
• The 3000 lantern scene will always get me, please when will I see it animated?!

• Shi Qingxuan is THEE best friend of the century.
• The chibi artworks are so precious!!!
• Anyone else who harms Xie Lian should evaporate.

Perhaps it's the way they divided the books, but this volume felt disjointed compared to the other books. However, I hope everything will come together slowly but surely, considering everything is tied to Xie Lian. I also found some things that irked me the first time around I didn't mind this time around.

Otherwise, I think MXTX does a great job bringing the past to the present and the balance between the two. I'm excited because the next volume will be completely new for me; I hit a book slump somewhere around this volume the first time!

I stayed up past 3:00 am four days in a row just so I could finish all the books in the series. And book 3 was one of the most sad and tense of the whole collection. The suspense was overwhelming as we watched the perfect heavenly realm start to fall apart while secrets were beginning to unravel. Where I and Xie Lian realized there was more going on than what meets the eye.

It was also where Hua Cheng was becoming less and less of a mystery! We started to learn just how devoted and serious he was about Xie Lian. It was like the beginning of his “im your most devoted believer” era. All of the things I and many others suspected were coming true before our very own eyes. Not to mention, the sheer amount of all the heartbreaking scenes I was subjected to!! The feelings pain and anguish were practically bleeding from the pages. I highly doing all that you can to get your hands on it!!!

WHY….is this series so addicting? hmm???

Literally can’t explain how much I NEED Hualian to be together. Hua Cheng and Xie Lian are meant for each other and you can’t change my mind. At this point there isn’t a whole lot to write about each book as I go through the series. I loved this book- probably the best one out of the first 3.

The lanterns floated majestically in the night sky, overcoming the shine of the stars and the moon. Xie Lian watched, spellbound. After a moment, he breathed out a whisper:
“Thank you…”

Crying during Arc 2 and left curious in the middle of Arc 3. Xie Lian’s background story was absolutely heartbreaking. He had to deal with so much! We need more people like Xie Lian in the world. Xie Lian is the perfect combination of kindhearted and straight up savage. gosh I loved him.

The State Preceptor stared hard at him. “I’ve seen your future, and it’s pitch black.”
Xie Lian looked him straight in the eyes. “You must be mistaken. I only like wear white.”

Hua Cheng!!! I need him to continue being so sarcastic, nonchalant, and rightfully egotistic. I.Love.Him. I want to see more of him in book 4.

Then he found himself caught by a pair of strong arms. One hand circled his waist, and the other grasped his chin. In the next second, something cold and soft covered his lips

~I was screaming. Literally. Thank gosh no one was home 👆

Xie Lian’s lips were aching and numb from the kiss, and he felt as if he was about to lose all sense of himself. If this were anyone else, he would’ve long since stabbed them with his sword—but it just had to be Hua Cheng!

~At this point I didn’t even need a real kiss. I was happy with just this. I meannn every good fantasy book needs a ‘i’m kissing you to give you oxygen so I can save you’ moment right?

~Something to fight for, someone to live for~

*book 4, please don’t make me cry like the first half of book 3 did 😭

Ciąg dalszy losów niebianina i władcy demonów zaczyna się cofnięciem w przeszłość. Od pierwszego tomu nękało mnie pytanie, jak wyglądały poprzednie wstąpienia Xie Liana i w końcu moja ciekawość została po części zaspokojona!

Ani trochę nie zwątpiłam w to, że nasz główny bohater miał złote serce. Z jednej strony podziwiałam jego zawartość i to jak poświęcał się dla swojego ludu, z drugiej współczułam wiedząc że stara się bezskutecznie i co go czeka.

Przyznaję że zaspoilerowałam sobie wątek z chłopcem ale jednocześnie teraz chciałabym dostać jego perspektywę i historię rozwoju jego postaci (kto wie ten wie).

Ponownie wciągnęłam się w wątek romantyczny! Nie wiem skąd autorka czerpie pomysły ale słuchajcie! Jeśli wasz mężczyzna nie chce postawić wam kaplicy i wysłać z niej 3 tysiące lampionów byście wybrały konkurs na najbardziej wielbionego niebianina, to na was nie zasługuje. Hua Cheng ma całe moje serce!

Podoba mi się jak Xie Lian z każdą częścią jest odważniejszy w tej relacji, jak staje się ona swobodna z każdym spotkaniem. Do tego tajemnice i subtelne sceny sprawiają że autorka miała moją pełną uwagę, a ja jak głupia czytałam to w napięciu czy scena z okładki się sprawdzi

Druga część książki poświęcona nowej misji wydaje się być ciekawa, nawet chyba najstraszniejsza i niepokojąca z dotychczasowych ale ze względu na urwanie jej pod koniec tego tomu, wyczekuję kontynuacji jak najszybciej by wrócić do tego świata i bohaterów

While it retains some charms the previous volume had, the format and structure of this volume are kind of confusing. It is like reading several separate books and that one book/story was not even concluded properly (whatever happened with the fetus ghost thing?). I also have one scene that bothered me since it involved a minor that I hope (and suppose) won't be in the live action adaptation (in NRTA we trust).

And then the romance part. Well it is still very low key but if in the previous volumes the two leads' interaction sometimes gave me butterflies, this volume's interaction felt like something out of cheesy dramas. Also, most of it just a rehash of the previous volumes when Xie Lian being shy and all after being rescued by Hua Cheng albeit in different situation.

Another thing that I wish was not given page allocations is Qi Rong, who's probably one of the most annoying villains ever. I got tired reading about his diatribe, printed all in caps.

Yet I still give it three stars. What I do like from this volume is definitely the first part, because it gave the explanation on how Xianle fell and truly paints a different picture of Xie Lian, the inexperienced, naive, impetuous one. Almost like a comedy of errors but with catasthropic results.

Will I continue? Sure I will, though maybe with lowered expectation.

it is something that i do not have after reading this book

while i did not feel as attached to this book compared to the first two volumes, it still had some very memorable and intense moments that had me consuming page after page after chapter after chapter. i am immediately delving into the next volume because i need more.

(that scene where hua cheng kept messing up the calligraphy on purpose so xie lian could keep guiding his hand, had me giggling so much)

The ending of the second arc is painful to say the least, however not as bad as arc four so we are still good.
Also arc three has begun and I love it very much so I was just giggling and squealing 90% of the time.
And like always the art!!!! Beautiful, spectacular, astonishing, out of this world, never been done before, completely unique.

I prefer the flashbacks to the present timeline. There, I said it.

We get to see Xie Lian’s initial ascendancy and his first defiance of the gods. Defying heavenly laws, Xie Lian descends to the mortal realm to save his home, the Kingdom of Xianle, from a devastating drought and a brewing rebellion.

With his trusted Feng Xin and Mu Qing, Xie Lian tries to take the weight of his kingdom on his shoulders. We see how ignorant the heavens are and how fate will always have its way.

Whilst I have a prediction for the importance of the flashback and the reoccurring character, I liked seeing Xie Lian as a prince and then as a more naive and innocent heavenly official.

I do find the present timeline more boring as a ping, probably because Xie Lian has to deal with the petty officials.

This one didn’t wrap up. The story felt like it ended in the middle of a major event. This makes sense when you know this was initially published as a web novel.

I preferred volume two slightlyyyy more.
