Fans of the author will be happy to read this thrilling story! The characters were unique and it kept me hooked. Slightly overly detailed at times, which can make some scenes feel slow. But overall still a solid suspense with a romance that makes you swoon.

Thank you to the publisher for the gifted ARC

Atmospheric and engaging, with a few extra layers

Bloodlust delivers a gripping mystery with rich atmosphere and compelling characters. While the pacing dragged at times due to some overly detailed scenes, the story kept me invested. I’ll admit I don’t personally care for spicy scenes in thrillers—they pull me out of the suspense—but that’s just my preference. Overall, a solid read that fans of Sandra Brown will enjoy. This is a great sequel to Blood Moon! it is OK read it
on its own because everything is well laid out. MItch is
a divine character whom I was worried about and was ready
to handle his troubles for him, until I knew I would not need
to because he became entwined with Dylan, who turned
out to be a complicated and emotional character.
John, another complicated, interesting part of Mitch's
life was a huge surprise ~ enough said ...
I am going to sit right here and wait for the next
installment to the 'Blood' knowing I will not be
disappointed!
My thanks to Grand Central Publishing via

Wow, this book is fantastic. It’s now one of my all time favorites. Loved staying on edge. Mitch is sure his wife was killed, not suicide. He’s on a mission to find out who killed her. Loved how he reacts to his new psychiatrist Dylan. Is he falling for her? There’s many twists that shocked me. Loved getting multiple points of view and that there’s a happy ever after. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy through NetGalley and I highly recommend this book.

I still remember the first Sandra Brown book I ever picked up, Low Pressure. For years, people told me that since I was such a big Nora Roberts fan, I needed to give Sandra Brown a try. I finally listened in the summer of 2014, and I am so glad I did because I have been hooked ever since. Once I had read a good number of her books, I started counting down to her new releases like clockwork. That is why I was so excited to get the chance to read this one early.

I had already read Blood Moon and absolutely loved it, especially because of John’s friend Mitch. So imagine my surprise and excitement when I found out this book was actually Mitch’s story. Just like Blood Moon, this one hooked me from the very beginning. The characters felt layered and real, and I loved getting to see a different side of Mitch. Even though we learned new things about him, he still had that same spark and charm that made me love his character the first time around.

The story itself was also so well done. I really enjoyed watching the pieces of the mystery fall into place and trying to connect the dots before everything came together. It had the perfect mix of tension, emotion, and heart, and I found myself completely pulled in until the very last page.

All in all, this was an amazing read, and I honestly wish I had more to dive into right now. This is a slight spoiler, but I do wish the epilogue had been set a little further out. Even so, it wrapped things up beautifully. I would recommend this book to any suspense fan, even if they do not usually read romantic suspense.

**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**

Bloodlust is a high-action, super-heightened emotion Romantic Suspense that is propulsive from start to finish. Brown has always been a fearless writer and it’s why she led me into this subgenre decades ago and continues to not disappoint.
_____
Summary
Detective Mitch Haskell is hellbent on revenge. He knows his wife did not take her own life, but was murdered in an unspeakably cruel act of retribution for his undercover work. Getting anyone to see this truth feels impossible though. Mitch is not handling the emotions or his anger and he’s sent by his best friend/boss to see a therapist - or else.

Dr. Dylan Reede is qualified to help someone like Mitch deal with his trauma, but she’s not prepared to deal with all the other complications the detective presents. She sees from the start that he will erode any barrier she puts up to keep their relationship strictly professional and tries to back away. But it’s soon clear that anyone near Mitch Haskell is in danger themselves and Dylan must accept that the rules need be bent or broken to stay alive. When it becomes clear Mitch may finally be healing his heart, Dylan will need to decide whether to take a chance on a deeply hurt man who seems from the outside the most dangerous risk of all.
_____
Thoughts

In Sandra Brown’s “Blood Moon” we met Mitch Haskell. He was working undercover in Louisiana, had a wife he loved, and was expecting a child. The MMC of that story was John Bowie, a down on his luck detective who was two seconds away from being fired.

In “Bloodlust”, the trainwreck has flipped completely from one to the other. Brown goes for the jugular in this story, breaking down a character to their basest instincts and creating a man so on the edge of darkness he’s practically swallowed up by bloodlust.

John Bowie is very happily married to the FMC from his book and defeated his own set of foes inside the department which stymied his career. But the ties he has to Mitch, and the gratitude for way Mitch stuck his neck out for John when he was screwing up royally, are extremely important to the way this story is constructed.

Bloodlust is a traditional M/F romantic suspense, in the style Brown does so well. But this is also a story of a deep friendship between two men who love each other – even when they are so self-destructive they no longer love themselves. It’s also about trust and having relationships of a romantic and platonic kind that can carry a person out of the darkest spaces.

Mitch is one of the most broken MMC’s I’ve read in a recently published Romance. It seems fitting that the person who could see past all the very justified anger and trauma is professionally is trained to find a redeemable human underneath. Dylan has no illusions that Mitch is just kind of messed up. Nor does she treat him as a project either.

It’s a tricky line to walk right now having a therapist fall in love with their client, ethically. However, I think Brown pulls this off because Dylan herself quickly knows this is not going to work in a professional sense and tells Mitch so. There’s still likely some dubious parts where it’s clear both Mitch and John are playing around with the idea of therapy as a way to do some career slight of hand. But for me, someone who raises an eyebrow at therapy on page in Romance as a kind of cure all, it works. All three character’s choices feel more realistic to who they are as people than what is the approved party line from readers about therapy these days.

Bloodlust is easy one to recommend to Romantic Suspense readers and long-time Sandra Brown fans. I also enjoyed seeing Sandra Brown return to creating series characters. She builds strong worlds and having a continued story with previous characters made for an even more satisfying conclusion.

Grand Central Publishing (March 2026)
Genre/Subgenre: romance, romantic suspense, contemporary romance

Standalone/Series: can be read as a standalone, but works best with the world established in Brown’s previous work “Blood Moon”

Themes/Tropes: trauma recovery after great loss, widower, single father, destructive behaviors, substance abuse, therapy and the limitations therein, Louisiana crime, seedy underbelly of a city, corruption in power structures, finding love again

Steam/Spice Level: open door, on page, in the room emotional scenes between the two main characters, medium spicy on a mainstream romance scale

Setting: Louisiana, present day

POV: third person, past tense

Cops/LEO: yes, the MMC is a Detective in the police department and the secondary character is his boss at the PD. Lots of corruption in the local PD themes here.

Children: yes, Mitch’s child with his wife survived the attack and is living with his in laws through the story. This resolves itself happily in the HEA

I am such a fan of this author's books. I loved Blood Moon. It had the fast-paced thriller energy that kept you engaged, the love story that unfolded while catching the bad guy and that would have been enough to make a really good story, but the protagonist, John Bowie, and his best friend, Mitch Haskell were the glue that made the story "extra" special. Imagine my surprise and joy when this author added a second book that included the two buddies. This story did not disappoint and the ending left you wanting more from John and Mitch.......hint, hint.

The story begins with a tragic event that propels Mitch into a man with a vendetta to get to the truth. His best friend, John, knows he is spiraling and he is trying to help him. Mitch has hit rock bottom and John is mandating that he see a therapist to try to get the help he needs. Mitch has other plans as he just received a "tip" that lead him closer to the hunch he has been feeling for two years. His therapist, Dylan, is losing patience with Mitch as he is not working within the boundaries with the doctor. The other challenge is that both have noticed that there is chemistry between them which complicates the situation. Pieces start to surface and Mitch soon learns that Dylan may hold an important piece of information that can tie the mystery together, which now makes her vulnerable and possibly in danger. Mitch can't let this happen and he is eager to atone for the guilt he has harbored since the tragic event.

This story was so fast paced, and John and Beth were included which added so much to Mitch's storyline. John and Mitch have that "IT" factor and I'm not sure if it is the fierceness they possess to keep the ones they love safe, or the New Orleans vibe, but it works and I hope we can see more.

I always look forward to Sandra Brown's romance suspense books. The last time we saw Mitch in Blood Moon, his wife was giving birth to their son. Two years later, his wife has been murdered (so sad) and he is struggling with anger and drinking too much. His boss, John (from Blood Moon), insists that he get help and start seeing a therapist. His son is now almost three so he also has him to think about. Mitch and John started out on the force together and have been close friends ever since. Mitch spent a few years working undercover for the DEA where he made enemies. At the end of Blood Moon, he went back to work at the Auclair police department with John who is now his boss and he wants revenge on the people who killed his wife.

He starts seeing Dr. Dylan Reede who has her own past trauma. When Mitch wears a disguise and is stabbed, he discovers a link between Dylan and one of his enemies. He takes her to John’s fishing cabin and he fires her as his therapist as their attraction builds so they can be together. The story is full of action and suspense and I didn’t want to put it down. There is a mole in their department and there are some good twists I didn’t see coming. I liked how Dylan was able to go toe to toe with Mitch’s snark. There are some similarities between Blood Moon and Bloodlust and I think it’s helpful to read Blood Moon first to get a little more background on the characters but it’s not necessary. Thanks to the author, Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.

This is a fast paced romantic suspense story set in the bayou country of Louisiana. The hero is a police detective and former undercover operative. Mitch is a charming risk taker and single dad. He's in pain over the murder of his wife and determined to avenge her death. When his lieutenant mandates counseling to help Mitch get his act together, he begins meeting with psychologist Dylan. She's a deeply empathetic woman who has also experienced deep loss. She wants to help Mitch let go of his guilt and obsession over revenge. Mitch and Dylan experience an immediate connection.

As Mitch tracks down the criminals, there's a twisting plot with lots of surprises that involves drug cartels, dirty cops, hitmen, and people who are not what they seem. Brown definitely keeps you turning the pages.

The relationship between Mitch and Dylan is believable. Dylan is very aware of the professional conflict of interest and struggles with her attraction to her patient. Mitch is a troubled man who gains valuable insights from his discussions with Dylan as he continues his mission.

This book follows Blood Moon. It includes references to characters and plot points from the earlier book but it definitely works as a standalone.

I read an advance copy of this book. This is an honest review.

Thank you in advance to Grand Central and NetGalley for an arc of this book. I sometimes sound like a broken record, but Sandra Brown was one of my original go to authors and I can still picture her book titles on my childhood (ok, I was actually 14) bookshelf in my parents house.

The book opens with Mitch and John, both detectives and long time friends, fighting over Mitch's drinking problem. John is his friend first and then his boss, but is concerned with Mitch's mental state after he lost his wife and life partner a few years ago. In early chapters, we learn about Mitch's son and in-laws and the complicated relationships he's had since his wife's death. His son is currently living with them.

Mitch has privately investigated his wife's death and thinks that local crime bosses - Richard Malone and someone named "Oz" are responsible for these deaths. After his drinking episode, John forces him to see a psychologist to try and hash out some of the issues he's facing. He choses Dr. Dylan Reede - who happens to be a woman, to try and work some of these problems out. Coincidentally, Richard Malone sees the same psychologist. Will Dylan help him through this to not only solve the crime but also his mental issues?

I really love this author and she may not like to be called “Classic” but she truly is classic romantic thriller suspense! This is a romantic suspense standalone novel that features characters from a previous book Bloodmoon (which I really loved). This book is about a former undercover cop turned detective and his need for revenge for this wife’s death. It is a gritty, dark tale of revenge, justice and the need for love when you feel you do not deserve it. Brown’s Main Male Characters are written with depth, darkness, alpha characteristics and major sex appeal. The Female Main Character is intelligent, vulnerable yet strong and trying to fight the pull of attraction to the MMC.
This story had a lot of reveals that were not expected. You are kept blind on a lot of the plot as it unravels and it is revealed in pieces. This keeps the book suspenseful and unique. I love the way the romance is written– there are just times when you need the alpha male to make things happen! This book also has other deeper themes such as grief, loss and a grieving parent still needing to be there for their child. Overall, I really enjoyed this one and Sandra Brown will continue to be an auto buy author for me. Thanks netgalley and GrandCentral Publishing for an E-arc of this book!

Title: Bloodlust
Author: Sandra Brown
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mitch has a bone to pick with the frontman of Oz’s network of crime for killing his wife while his infant son slept in his crib in another room. Though reports ruled it a suicide, Mitch knows she wouldn’t have left him and their son they both desperately loved. Now ordered into mandated counseling after tearing up the local bar by his boss and best friend, John (from Brown’s previous release, Blood Moon), Mitch finds himself expected to pour out his inner thoughts when all he really wants to do is work into her inner…….its a Sandra Brown. You know the spice involved. Will Mitch be able to find out who the elusive Oz is while taking down his henchman and keep his family and heart safe along the way?

Takeaways:
1. Love getting to revisit the characters of Blood Moon and that Mitch got his own story.
2. Sandra Brown has been an auto read author for me since I first discovered her in my teens. I was there when she was strictly romance and followed her to the spicy thriller side.

Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for the advanced copy. Opinions expressed are my own. This book will be published on March 17, 2026.

A recurring theme in many of Sandra Brown’s novels is the somewhat forceful attention men give to women who pretend not to want it. In Bloodlust, her latest novel, Mitch Haskell—whom readers may remember from Blood Moon—is still struggling with the violent death of his wife two years earlier. His police superior and best friend, John Bowie, pushes him into counseling. Enter Dr. Dylan Reede, the lovely (of course) and brilliant (of course) therapist who soon becomes entangled in Mitch’s mission to bring down those he blames for his wife’s death.
Danger and deception complicate matters, and while Mitch confronts his inner demons, he must also grapple with being a father to his three-year-old son, who is currently in the care of his in-laws.
There is much to enjoy in this novel despite the predictable romantic pull between Mitch and Dylan. The twists and turns make it hard to put down, pulling the reader along late into the night. While not Sandra Brown’s best, Bloodlust is still a solid addition to her romantic thriller lineup. Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for providing an advance copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Sandra Brown is becoming one of the elite of the thriller genre. Every new publication is better than the one before! With Bloodlust, she presents an action-packed story employing several elements--Drug Trafficking; Compromised Police officers; Grief; Humor; Psychology; Revenge; Romance, etc. The pace of the story keeps the reader engaged and turning pages.

Although Sandra Brown is known for her romances, the thrill is taking front seatin Bloodlust. With drugs involved, the police always have to worry that the cartel will use money and threats to buy off investigators. With Detective Mitch Haskel, he is seeking revenge for the death of his wife and mother of his child who he is sure was killed by the cartel. This makes him highly motivated. He is not himself due to his grief so he is sent to a psychotherapist, Dr. Dylan Reede. This is when everything starts to explode, not just with thrills but also with romance. What key does Dr. Reede have to the drug trafficking and how does the cartel seem to know everything that Detective Haskel is doing?

Thank you to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the privilege of reading the ARC for Bloodlust!

Sandra Brown is known for two things: suspense and romance. This classic formula takes center stage in her latest novel — a story of a detective who must seek therapy following the apparent suicide of his wife two years earlier. But nothing is as cut-and-dry as it seems, and what unfolds is a tight, steadily escalating battle for retribution (or, in another word, bloodlust). This book is due out March 17, 2026.

The characters in this book are well-plotted and genuinely compelling, each one bringing their own secrets and motivations to the page. Brown balances emotional depth with tense pacing, and the twists arrive just when you think you’ve figured everything out. The plot moves quickly without feeling rushed, and there’s a satisfying sense of dread and discovery that keeps the reader leaning forward.

I think long-time fans will appreciate the familiar rhythm of Brown’s storytelling — the simmering chemistry, the buried trauma, the pulse of danger around every corner — while new readers will find this a strong entry point into her work. It’s entertaining, engaging, and delivers exactly what you want from a Sandra Brown thriller.

Two years ago, Detective Mitch Haskell lost his wife to what appeared to be suicide. Mitch knew it wasn’t suicide, it was payback from an undercover mission. His in laws are helping to raise his little boy and he is getting closer to the ones who caused his wife’s death. He has went over the edge and his boss and best friend John has ordered him to go to therapy. He’s given a list of doctors and chooses Dr. Dylan Reede. He arrives for his appointment and is shocked by the beautiful woman that is his doctor. Dylan has had her own tragedies and understands Mitch better than anyone. He’s given hides behind jokes and Dylan is determined to help him. As Mitch gets closer to taking down the men responsible for his wife’s death, he learns that Dylan might be the key to some important information. Will Dylan forgive the lies Mitch tells her?
Secrets. Action. Tragedy. Will keep you on the edge of your seat. Surprises. Dylan wants to help people. Mitch is rough and tough and wants revenge. A little steamy. Stand alone. Forced proximity.

Another great read by Sandra Brown. Sandra Brown is by far one of my favorite authors and I have read just about everything she has written. Her writing style is perfect, she creates characters that you can relate to and her stories always have the right amount of twists and turns.

Mitch Haskell is on a downhill spiral since his wife was murdered two years prior. He wants to avenge her death and put those responsible down. During his decline at work his boss/friend demanded he go to therapy or find himself without a job. In comes Dylan Reed, the therapist, but SHE is not what Mitch was expecting. The book moves at a fast pace with action, twists and some of the authors predictable romance that just cinches the book together. There are some twists that you don't see coming and some are a little more obvious, but overall a great book that will keep you reading until the very end.

Thank you NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Bloodlust is an exciting novel replete with excellently defined characters and a plethora of action and plots —- murders, police moles, therapists, gangs, violence, a toddler and, of course, Ms. Brown’s obligatory sex scenes. I found the writing to be humorous throughout the novel — Mitch's description of “life threatening episodes” and others such as “more door locks than the Auclair jail” or the description of the cardiologist as “he might be old enough to shave” or “she’d had as many facelifts as husbands” or the reference to Mrs. Gibbon and the commode.
This book is highly recommended for all readers and I thank NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this novel prior to publication.

Former DEA agent Mitch Haskell is now working for the NOPD with his best friend John Bowie as his boss. But he is spiraling out of control as he plots revenge on the drug dealer/hit man he suspects killed his wife Angela. Bowie sends him to mandatory therapy sessions where he connects with Dylan Reede, the therapist who just happens to have his suspect as a client, too.

As Mitch juggles his family life, job and clandestine undercover work, his relationship with Dylan becomes personal. But will he be able to figure out the true identity of the drug dealer kingpin before it’s too late?

Bloodlust continues the storyline of the main characters from Blood Moon, but can stand alone.

The narrative begins shortly after Sandra Brown's last novel, Blood Moon. Back again are John Bowie and Beth Collins who are awaiting the arrival of their first child, but the focus of this novel is John's detective partner and best friend Mitch Haskell and his therapist Dr. Dylan Reede. Mitch is focused on catching the two men he believes murdered his wife two years ago leaving him a single father of an infant boy. Read in one sitting, the narrative in Bloodlust flies by. Readers return to a unique place that they first encountered in Blood Moon. The resolution is satisfying and readers of Suspense novels will likely find it highly enjoyable.

I am fully invested in "Bloodlust" by Sandra Brown! As a long-time admirer of her work, I found this novel to be exceptionally engaging. From the opening pages, it captivated my attention. I was particularly drawn to Mitch, the protagonist—a police detective grappling with the profound grief of losing his wife. Although her death was ruled a suicide, Mitch is convinced it was murder, and he is determined to seek justice for her. The story is fast-paced, featuring a diverse cast of characters, both virtuous and villainous, making it impossible to put down. This book is undoubtedly a must-add to your reading list.

Sandra Brown is a master of her craft. She writes romantic suspense/thriller to perfection. Bloodlust was PHENOMENAL! I disconnected from life to devour this book after reading Blood Moon. Page after gripping page, it did NOT disappoint. The writing, the plot and the characters are all amazing and you can easily connect with them becoming completely invested in the story. Sandra Brown stories stick with you long after the book ends. Her descriptive, emotional and intriguing writing is far better than any movie on screen. Do not miss Blood Moon or Bloodlust, both books are THAT good! Outstanding reading!

I loved getting Mitch’s story after Blood Moon—this one hooked me right away. It’s fast-paced, emotional, and full of great twists, with solid chemistry between Mitch and Dylan and fun cameos from John and Beth. Mitch’s darker, more vulnerable side made the story even better. A super satisfying follow-up, and perfect for anyone who likes suspense with a touch of romance.
