About the author

Cassandra Clare was born to American parents in Tehran, Iran and spent much of her childhood travelling the world with her family, including one trek through the Himalayas as a toddler where she spent a month living in her father’s backpack. She lived in France, England and Switzerland before she was ten years old.

Since her family moved around so much she found familiarity in books and went everywhere with a book under her arm. She spent her high school years in Los Angeles where she used to write stories to amuse her classmates, including an epic novel called “The Beautiful Cassandra” based on a Jane Austen short story of the same name (and which later inspired her current pen name).

After college, Cassie lived in Los Angeles and New York where she worked at various entertainment magazines and even some rather suspect tabloids where she reported on Brad and Angelina’s world travels and Britney Spears’ wardrobe malfunctions. She started working on her YA novel, City of Bones, in 2004, inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, her favourite city. She turned to writing fantasy fiction full time in 2006 and hopes never to have to write about Paris Hilton again.
Cassie’s first professional writing sale was a short story called “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord” in a Baen anthology of humor fantasy. Cassie hates working at home alone because she always gets distracted by reality TV shows and the antics of her cats, so she usually sets out to write in local coffee shops and restaurants. She likes to work in the company of her friends, who see that she sticks to her deadlines.

City of Bones was her first novel. Sword Catcher is her most recent novel.

I think this has been the best volume of the graphic novel adaptation thus far. It leaves off after Magus summons Azazel and Simon devises his plan to summon an angel. Despite not having a lot of action, it strikes a good balance between character development and drama, with only a little bit of angsty melodrama. Looks like there will be several more volumes on the way, and I’m looking forward to them. The later volumes of the series are better than the early ones, so this bodes well for the graphic novel.

This volume was pretty good! I still hate the whole sibling plotline with Jace/Clary/Sebastian so naturally you can imagine how I feel about it in this volume but I do appreciate the other characters' storylines like Alec/Magnus, Simon/Raphael, Maia/Jordan, etc. Also the art in this volume is absolutely adorable I love each character's cover page they're so cute with all the stars and peace signs and all :') ❤️ The Azazel thing was hilarious as well, just overall a pretty entertaining volume!

Clary is ready to get Jace back, no matter what. Alec wants to get a secret from Camille. Isabel and Simon are getting closer. Brother Jerimah is called on to help separate Jace from Johnathan. This was a middle book, where many pieces are being moved into place for the upcoming battle, but the action was important. I am enjoying revisiting the Mortal Instruments through the graphic novels. Getting ready for the final series in the Shadowhunters world.

well azazel wants nothing to do with them since Simon has the mark of Cain and what are they going to do to help Jace if they can't hurt jonathan if they are bound to one another , I love the graphic novels cause it's a refresher course on the books and having these with the original books is amazing .

City of Lost Souls has some of the best twists of the series, and I'm happy to say that the graphic novel does not disappoint in this first half! Once again, there's more to the relationships between Alec and Magnus, Alec and Camille Belcourt, Simon and Izzy, Jace and Sebastian and Clary, and the tenuous connection with the Seelie Queen that the book explores much deeper that will inevitably contribute more emotional impact that what the graphic volumes have managed to include, but I found that this was one of the best volumes by far in terms of artistry and inclusion. The cliffhanger ending? A perfect choice. It felt like a season finale, and now I have to wait impatiently for at least 3 months for the next installment (i.e Volume 10.)
