HIGHLIGHTS:
1. OPENING:
- "opening with authenticity and showing vulnerability are the most effective."
- Do not start with statements such as "Thank you" or "Before I start..." because these are not suitable for the beginning of your talk.

2. FINALE:
- The finale for several speeches also has different patterns: final example, final thought, take away, brighter future, as well as call to action.

3. PAUSES:
- You may opt to use pauses as a cue that you are transitioning.
- Take a pause for at least two or three seconds before talking again.

4. POSTURE POWER:
- Once you’re standing straight or at least having a proper posture, you develop the feeling that you have power and authority.

5. TYPE OF TALK:
- You have to identify exactly what kind of talk you want to zero in. (scientist, social entrepreneur, the educator, the entertainer, and the change agent, etc).

6. LAUGH:
- Make your audience laugh, too.
- When you can get them to laugh at the very start of your talk, that can be an effective way for you to build rapport with them.

7. QUESTION TO ANSWER:
- In choosing a topic, you first have to come up with a specific question that you want to answer through your talk.

8. FIRST MINUTE:
- It is important that you give them what they expect right at the very start of your talk.
- the first minute, or even the first few seconds, of your talk, is the very peak of your performance.
- This the highest level of your audience's attention, so you better make it count.

9. CLARIFY THEME IN INTRO:
- You have to clarify your overall theme at the very beginning of your talk.
- Give them an overview of your talk.

10. CALL TO ACTION:
- Most importantly, you have to end your talk with a call to action.
- You should motivate your audience to do something after listening to your speech.
