This rich and captivating historical novel captures the events and occupants of Fort Michilimackinac, Michigan during the French and Indian War. Detailed descriptions of the Ottawa, Pottawatomi, and Ojibway tribes, their partnerships with French trappers, the intrusion of the Anglais and the resulting bloodshed are skillfully shared in this gripping tale of the Straits.
This book was a great historical fiction rendering of what life was like during the occupation of Turtle Island.
The characters are complex, dynamic, and very human, as are their fates.
This book does not shy away from the intensity and brutality of living in a developing nation, and the author did an excellent job of not identifying a preference or morality of one character over another.
Truly an engaging, emotional, and educational read. A strong recommendation for any historical fiction lovers.
Good reading and account of my home state of Michigan. Having lived in Cheboygan Michigan for a while I was very familiar with most of the landmarks and many of the actual people mentioned in the book. I recently read a book based on Robert Rogers' journal of his capture of Fort Michilimackinac which wasn't mentioned in the book.
