A note from the author:
Thanks for visiting my Goodreads page.
I wanted to tell something meaningful about myself, but let's start with the important stuff--I love swoon-worthy heroes. The kind of heroes that are strong and would take a bullet for you, but also want to open your door and listen to you pour out your heart.
What else? I grew up moving. If you’ve read my books, you won’t be surprised by this. I have a lot of moving themes through my books centered around characters experiencing pain from someone moving.
It was hard. But, I believe there’s always a seed of good that comes out of everything hard, so I think the best thing that came from it was that I learned to love books.
And I had to learn a lot of mad skills on friend making. It gave me a love of people…good people, compassionate people. Interesting people of all kinds.
What else about me? I am a mother and wife! I have four amazing boys that are like little ninjas running around. I love them so much and I’m so grateful for my amazing husband who doesn’t get intimidated by all the billionaire men in my life.
I have a fierce love of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I am so grateful for Him and for the healing and forgiveness I’ve gotten to experience in my life. This is a theme in many of my books.
I love being an American. I am so proud of the men and women that support and preserve our freedom. This is another theme you will find in my books.
I am so grateful for my fans and for the support and love you all show me! Don’t stop reading!
I read this a couple years ago before the other two books were released. I highly recommend having all three books on hand when you start this, and just read them all as one book. They're all novellas so combined they make one full-length novel (around 300 pages-ish). Since that's how I read it now, I'll just review them all as one.
Alexa and Sam dated and were engaged seven years ago when she suddenly ended things and took off. They are reunited when Sam realizes the new man in Alexa's life is not who he claims to be. They are thrown back together and forced to face their past and figure out what their future holds. Alexa's current boyfriend is actual working with a drug cartel and doesn't want to give Alexa up without a fight. Sam and Alexa go on the run and have to learn to work together and to trust again.
I enjoyed the story overall, I think it'd be nice if it were combined into one book with maybe a few tweaks. It was well written and moved along at a nice pace.
Content Romance: Clean, just kissing. Violence: Moderate. Deals with some serious topics rape, kidnapping, drug cartels, torture, etc. Religious: Very Mild, would consider it more of a secular romance Series: The Real Thing series, would recommend reading all three at once.
I liked this book- or at least this PART of this book. I'm not really a fan of these serial books. This was a short book, left wide open for the next "episode" I guess. I wanted to read the next one, but with how much each book is, I had a hard time justifying it. I would much rather this have been one fully length book that I paid for once. All the story together in one place.
This book was an enjoyable read until the end where it was a cliff hanger. I must admit that I don't enjoy cliff hangers. But I loved Sam. The story was good. But I really couldn't connect with Alexa. I give this book 31/2
I picked this up because I like Taylor Hart. She does a great job writing emotions and dialogue that has more than one meaning. I enjoyed the story, like I expected. I should have read reviews because I was surprised at the end that this is book 1 of 3. It's short and fun, so I'm sure I'll grab the next one soon.
It's a second chance story, with Alexa running into the man she was once engaged to, Sam. He's there on assignment because, unbeknownst to Alexa, her current boyfriend is heavily involved in the drug cartel. This was a fun good guys verses the bad guys chase, with an outlier or two mislabeled, so who do you trust? Of course the action makes Sam look awesome, plus he's still in love with Alexa which is hard to resist. A piece of Alexa's past gets dealt with. It's disturbing, but she's validated, Sam finally knows, and all in all it's handled briefly (though it makes me wish violence on abusers) . I like the unexpected quarter help comes from - the quirky characters made me smile.
Seven years have passed since they have seen each other. Why now?? Sam has a job to do and he will get it done. Well written story with strong and believable characters. Problem is a cliffhanger. I enjoy series but like story ending books. If you don't mind cliffhangers, great book.
I think this was Taylor Hart’s first book and the first of a three book series. Loved the characters and the intrigue. Looking forward to more as I complete the series.
This story is advertised as a "clean" romance. That is not why I downloaded it. Still there are many things in this story that is far from clean. There is rape; men that "like" to kill others if they deserve it; drug dealers and lying. So no the characters didn't have sex but there were many other commandments that were broken. I only say this because it was so preachy about waiting until marriage and praying for guidance. I am a Christian but I don't like people being hypocritical.
Now let's talk about the characters. I had an extremely hard time believing Sam as a tough FBI agent. The man was crying every other paragraph. He cried more than Alexa. Alexa who is supposed to be smart and independent she made stupid choices. For example not telling Sam about Dave.
Then it was more than just a cliff hanger. The story just stopped. You have to get the next one if you want to know what happens. I don't so I am glad this was a freebie.
The writing is fine, the story was interesting, the characters were mostly believable though two-dimensional...but none of it was great. Then it ended in a cliff-hanger. Nowhere in the info. did it say "part one of two," but it's like 2/3 of a story. It was frustratingly incomplete. this story has no sex or foul language but deals with mature themes.
Great suspenseful thriller. What would you do if you found out you were dating a killer? That’s what our poor heroine discovers in this book when her ex-boyfriend who works for the FBI reenters her life and stirs up the painful past. I really liked this book. It’s not too long and can be read in a day if you have time. It’s full of intriguing characters, mysterious secrets, pain, love, and lots of bullets.
The Real Thing is a perfect blend of romance, family drama, and suspense. I loved every minute of the book, especially her dad and his buddies, they were hilarious. There was a lot of depth to the story and I can't wait to read the sequel.
Didn't realize this was a cliff-hanging series. Even though the writing flow had a few snags, the story line was catchy and fun, and you're moving right along and ... the end ... what?
