On a remote island off the coast of 17th century Scotland, a pregnant woman, accused of witchcraft, awaits her execution by fire. Using her innate powers, she escapes to a centuries-old sanctuary where she gives birth and secures safety for her infant daughter. The child is spirited away by a mystic teacher, only to be abandoned later -- to find her own way, to discover her own supernatural powers, and to learn the origin of her immortality.
Centuries later, she is in New York City masquerading as a mortal woman, always in search of her true identity. Unwittingly entangled in a series of murders, she relocates to rural Pennsylvania, only to be haunted as the murders continue. Once again, she is a witness, and perhaps more.
THE DOG BONES originates from one of the darkest periods of Scotland's history. It is a story as old as creation, itself -- the battle between good and evil.
M.L. Hutchinson, Ed.D., is a US Air Force veteran, former school principal, and college professor, who retired early to devote her time to writing. She lives with her family and dogs near Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The Dog Bones is her first novel.
I loved this book that is typically not my usual genre. The story unfolds effortlessly, the characters are defined in just the right time. Many times when reading this genre I can figure out things but not this one. A real page turner.
