Moonshine Hollow #2

Must Love Libraries and Libations

Rate this book
She’s planning the party of the year.

He’s 1000% done with her sparkly ideas.

One grumpy gargoyle. One sunshine half-elf. And one epic clash that will go down in Moonshine Hollow history.

Half-elf Primrose Windsong is a walking ray of sunshine who's never met a celebration she couldn't make sparkle. As Moonshine Hollow's most beloved party planner, she specializes in turning ordinary events into magical memories. When the village elders hire her to plan the library's 111th birthday bash, she's ready to pull out all the enchanted cupcakes, ethereal decorations, and flower-scented fireworks that'll light up the night.

There's just one massive problem. The library's intimidatingly gorgeous—and incredibly grumpy—gargoyle guardian is having none of it.

Erasmus has spent decades protecting the ancient tomes and mischievous bookwyrms of Moonshine Hollow's magical library. The brooding gargoyle prefers his books properly bound, his silence undisturbed, and his temperamental magical tomes safely contained. Primrose's glittery plans? Absolutely not happening.

But when every argument between them ends with flushed cheeks and sizzling glances, maybe there’s more to this crackling tension than meets the eye.

Will love bloom among the ancient scrolls, or will the library's magical hijinks spell chaos for them both?

Maisy Magill writes cozy fantasy romances where magic meets small-town charm—think Stars Hollow with a sprinkle of fairy dust and a pinch of spice to make things interesting. Her stories are the bookish equivalent of a warm hug, a crackling fire, and a perfectly baked scone (preferably with a touch of enchantment).

When she’s not weaving tales of love, magic, and mischievous caticorns, Maisy fully embraces the cottagecore lifestyle. She can usually be found coaxing her garden into behaving, embroidering slightly wonky flowers, making chocolate or gelato (because why choose?), or sipping tea while pretending she’ll only read one more chapter. Her books invite readers to slow down, savor the magic, and believe in love, one whimsical, heartwarming story at a time.

This was such a wonderful addition to the Moonshine Hollow series!!

From the very start, Maisy was able to paint such a magical picture with her descriptions of the town as well as Primrose’s abilities. The writing was done so well I felt as though I was right alongside everyone in the town watching everything from the retirement party to the celebration of the library’s birthday.

I love all the people that make up this town, especially as we get to see the connections and friendships. I loved that we got to see Rosalyn and Bjorn from book 1 again, and I really enjoyed getting to know Juniper and Granik more. I loved how Juniper and Granik helped Erasmus with his grand gesture in the name of love and for their good friend Primrose. I really can’t wait for these two who are “just friends” to finally give into their crushes and become something!! Can’t wait for that book 😊

I loved that immediately there was this chemistry between Primrose and Erasmus that they couldn’t deny, as much as Erasmus tried! I absolutely loved how they got trapped in a magically confined space and had no choice but to get to know each other. It was also fun because there were plenty of libations to get them out of their anxiety and into their true feelings lol

Last, but certainly not least, I absolutely ADORED the bookwyrms (small wingless dragons the size of cats who could fly, despite not having wings). I absolutely loved all their hijinks, especially in the name of food, and Stevenson the surly bookwyrm (with a soft spot for Primrose) who kept Erasmus in his place a lot was definitely my favorite!

Thank you to Maisy Magill for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

I was so excited to return to Moonshine Hollow! The bookwyrms in this story are so dang cute! As I said from book 1, I need a caticorn, well now I also need a bookwyrm! Who wouldn't want a cat sized dragon!?

FMC Primrose is planning a party for the libraries 111th birthday, and has to convince the broody Gargoyle library guardian, MMC Master Erasmus, why it is important to the town to celebrate the library. Erasmus would much prefer to ignore this birthday altogether, and maintain his quiet solitude inside the library. Erasmus claims that a party would be far too disruptive to the bookwyrms, but really he is just used to his solitude after decades of living at the library. After an unexpected hex traps Erasmus and Primrose in a pocket world, things get a little spicy. Will Erasmus allow himself to have feelings for someone, or stay alone forever?

I love Primrose and all her sparkle, the dedication is perfect "For all the girls who've ever been told they're too loud or too much. Never let anyone dull your sparkle...or tell you that you can't use glitter." Plus, who wouldn't want a party without some sparkle and glitter! Erasmus is the perfect broody, grumpy gargoyle, that really just needs some encouragement to step outside the library walls and embrace life again.

The bookwyrms...omg...I love them, I love their names, and their amusing antics. Steven always stealing treats from people is so cute. I love that they all hang out on the Wyrmwood tree and sleep, or read. Erasmus has his constant companion Melville, an older bookwyrm, who dozes in his office.

Also, there is an overalls dress-up party in the story, and this sounds so fun!! I cannot even describe all the cute, and sparkly things that happen in this story, so you have to read this book to experience them all!!

Some fav quotes:
"At the top of the tree, the other bookwyrms rooster, either reading or dozing. I saw Merlin lying on his back, a scroll rolled out before him. He'd used magic to make it hover in the air above him in just the right reading position."

"But there was a scent on the breeze, the gentle smell of fall and harvest season just around the corner. What was there to be anxious about on such a perfect day."

"The gargoyle was at least seven feet tall, made of muscle, with horns sprouting from under his long, black hair. I had never seen him this close before. While I'd always had the sense that he was imposing, I didn't realize he was also stunning. Square jaw, piecing eyes, massive frame, he was...A blush rose on my cheeks..."

"Not even devastatingly handsome gargoyles twice my height with looks that could melt anyone's heart were going to get away with being so rude."

""He's so...infuriating. I was enraged when I kissed him. And kissing him was like kissing a storm cloud. A very muscular, good-smelling, and attractive storm cloud. I hated and loved every moment.""

"His forked tongue did things to me I'd never imagined possible, his strong hands holding my hips as I writhed beneath him."

"Some women were born to sparkle. Everyone else just needed to keep up."

Thank you so much to the author for a copy of this book!

This is my second Moonshine Hollow book and I just love the small town's cozy vibes and its inhabitants. Reading through the town descriptions, with the smell of baked goods wafting, nosy florists and well meaning cheerful townspeople, just makes the heart feel full and happy. Particularly loved this story is set just after the flush of full Summer, still full of golden light, sundresses and flowers, but with the hint of Autumn approaching with blackberries emerging and the evenings getting that little bit darker. It described that change of seasons so well!

We follow Primrose, half elf party planner, tasked with planning the birthday celebration of the century for the beloved local library. There's just one problem, the library guardian gargoyle is against all change, no compromises. After some fiery discussions, Erasmus starts to wonder if things changing are always such a bad thing and why he can't get Primrose out of his head 🤭

This is an insta-love story, however Primrose's belief in not settling for anything less than someone choosing her fully and Erasmus's plan for forgiveness had me rooting for them the whole time! Her buying her own house in anger was the icing on the cake 🍰 speaking of which, will absolutely be giving the recipes at the back of this book a go!

If the caticorns in the first book, the bookwyrms with their mischievous ways, little chirps and Stevenson always rummaging for a snack, just had my heart. Sigh...more magical creatures for the wish list.

5 stars for transporting me again to Moonshine Hollow, a place that always has me smiling and feeling warm, and of course a little bit of 🌶️🌶️🌶️ thrown in the mix.

Thank you to the author and MTMC tours for the chance to review :)

This is book two of the Moonshine Hollow cozy romantasy series (book 1 is Must Love Scones & Secrets, and there is a prequel, Must Love Moss & Moonshine). Even though this is book two in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone. Maisy introduces you to the characters in such a way during the book that even if you hadn't met any of them in the earlier books, you still understand who they are and why they are important to Moonshine Hollow.

With a Grumpy / Sunshine trope, this book gives us an incredible adventure into the lives of Primrose, half-elf party planner supreme, and Eramus, Gargoyle guardian of the library, as they clash over how to celebrate the 111th birthday of the Moonshine Hollow Library.

Full of wonderful characters, sweet romance, and a couple of spicy scenes, this book (along with the other 2 in the series) is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a great fantasy romance.

This book was absolutely adorable. It was the story of Primrose, our peppy and sunshiney resident party planner and Master Erasmus the grumpy guardian of the library.

The two of them, although polar opposites, really came together well in this story and it was a cozy glimpse back into a world we already know and love (with cameos from some characters you will find familiar)

Aside from the 2 very loveable characters that are our leads, I'm sure anyone who will read this book will just fall in LOVE with the Bookwyrms. (Of course I surely did. A red scaled, golden eyed one in particular). They are silly and mischievous and I just loved them so much.

This book can be read as a stand alone, however It gives more context to the world and characters if you read book 1 in the series first (must love scones & secrets).

As with Scones & Secrets, I absolutely loved this book. From the loveable characters, to the cozy world itself, to the adorable way the author puts recipes in the back of the book, I really appreciate every little touch in this series and I think if you're the type of person who appreciates a sweet story with loveable characters and low stakes, then you will absolutely love this book too.

What to expect:
-Enemies to lovers
-Forced proximity
-She falls first, he falls harder
-Grumpy/Sunshine
-Magical library & Cozy magical town
-Protective alpha with a hidden soft side
-Magical mishaps
-Tiny Dragons (Bookwyrms)
-Found family

Thank you again to the author for letting me read the book early! 🩷

I love this series! They 100% stand alone, but I can't imagine not wanting to read all of them after finishing one.

Primrose is such a fun character. She just wants to bring everyone in town happiness, and eventually get her dream: a husband and kids and a beautiful home.

Erasmus doesn't have those dreams. He doesn't really have any. He spends all of his time on his project in the library, usually not speaking to anyone other than the librarians and the bookwyrms, small creatures living in the library. And when Primrose shows up planning a big, loud, colorful party for the library's birthday, Erasmus is anything but amused.

I loved seeing how their personalities fit together so well even though they seem like complete opposites. And so much personal growth! Loved this story and am excited for the next. Perhaps Juniper?

"Must Love Libraries and Libations" is book two in the "Moonshine Hollow" series by Maisy Magill. This book was such a fun book. I liked how it talked about elves, gargoyles, orcs, bookwyrms, and a snufflecorn piglet. The cozy fantasy elements of this book were so loveable and made it a joy to read. I liked the characters, Primose and Erasmus, and how each chapter in the book went back and forth between these two. My favorite scene was when Erasmus went to get a shirt and jacket tailored for the party. It's just one of those scenes where you just smile. I am really enjoying this world that Maisy is creating and can't wait to read more in it.

“Must Love Libraries and Libations” by Maisy Magill is book two in the Moonshine Hollow series. Each book serves as a standalone, making it perfect for readers of Romantasy, Rom-coms, and spicy romance. Half-elf Primose attempts to plan the perfect party around the Moonshine Hollow Library’s 111th birthday despite the brooding and futile arguments from Master Erasmus, the resident Gargoyle and Guardian of the Library. This is a perfect cozy romance for readers to settle into a world full of magic, whimsy, and romance in the air.

The spice level for this read would be a solid 🌶️🌶️.5. There isn’t a LOT of spice, but the spice that is there is romantic, passionate, and full of love.

Primrose Windsong is a strong, independent woman who doesn’t need a man, and I loved that for her. She didn’t settle for less than she deserved, even if it hurt. She is strong-willed and ambitious in her endeavours, whether she is throwing a party or saving for the cottage of her dreams.

In terms of other characters, they were all lovely and had their own personalities and breadcrumbs of information that make the world so inviting. I was guessing who the next couple will be about! Magill crafted the matriarch, Flo Windsong, a little too well 😂. She runs the show, plans events, and discusses your friends in conversations that feel a little too pointed. I felt anxiety for Primrose from here!

Maisy Magill creates a cozy cottagecore daydream in Moonshine Hollow. Her world-building and design are picturesque, serene, and a place I wish I could visit. It’s a shame that places like Moonshine Hollow don’t exist 😭. Magill even adds a collection of recipes to give readers a taste of Moonshine Hollow!

“Must Love Libraries and Libations” is a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, cozy love story where two people fall hard and fast over the course of days in between naughty Bookwyrms, rogue spells, party planning, and finding our place in the present. I can’t wait to explore more of Moonshine Hollow!

ARC Review

A Cozy, Whimsical Delight!

This book was pure comfort and magic in literary form. It evoked the feeling of curling up with a warm mug of hot chocolate by the fire on a cool autumn day.

As the second book in the series, I was initially concerned that I might miss key details or feel lost due to not reading the first one. However, I was pleasantly surprised - this book can easily be enjoyed as a standalone. There are a few light spoilers for the first book regarding the characters, but the world-building is accessible and immersive, allowing you to dive right in.

One of the highlights for me was the whimsical, imaginative quality that filled every page. Maisy’s creativity shines through in her writing, effortlessly pulling you into a world that feels both enchanting and comforting. I was so hooked that I finished this book in one sitting! It’s a short read at just over 200 pages, but that actually enhances its cozy charm. The pacing never drags, and you never feel bogged down by unnecessary detail.

Now, the story does feature the classic insta-love trope, which can sometimes be a dealbreaker for me. But here, it completely worked. I don’t know what kind of magic the author sprinkled into this book, but I was completely charmed by the relationship between Primrose and Erasmus. Erasmus is the grumpy, centuries-old guardian of a magical library, hiding from the world while focusing solely on his duties. His well-constructed solitude is turned upside down by the vibrant and lively party-planner, Primrose. The grumpy x sunshine dynamic is pure delight, and I loved every moment of it. Their romance is sweet, heartwarming, and feels well-earned, with both characters showing significant growth and determination despite the obstacles they face. Also, keep an eye out for some spicy moments, too!

Overall, this book is filled with magic, adorable creatures (I’m now in desperate need of a bookwyrm!), a charming romance, and even some delightful recipes. It’s an absolutely enchanting read, and I can’t wait to return to Moonshine Hollow and meet more of the quirky townsfolk.

Favourite Quotes:

"I was terrified that in the light of day, she would see the truth. I was an old, outdated thing. She was full of life and joy. But as I sat there in the dark, breathing in the lingering scent of her presence, I began to wonder if my fear was really protecting either of us, or if it was just another way of hiding from the world."

"You deserve someone who chooses you, Prim. Not someone who panics and calls you a mistake. You are sunshine and magic and joy, and any man who can’t see that doesn’t deserve you."

"Some women were born to sparkle. Everyone else just needed to keep up."

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️

I am absolutely loving this magical, small town, romances by Maisy Magill! Once again she has drawn us into the world of Moonshine Hallow with fabulous characters, a beautifully written insta-connection with a medium burn grumpy/sunshine romance, a few hilarious shenanigans, and you can’t help but love the bookwyrms! Truly this book was such a great read! I devoured the whole thing in one sitting and I can’t wait to see which couple gets their happily ever after next! So if all this and so much more sounds like it’s just what your next read needs than I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Must Love Libraries and Libations today!

When the library in Moonshine Hollow is turning one hundred and eleven years old, the town wants to do something to celebrate and honor it. And what’s more fun than basically throwing the library a birthday party! And the whole town is excited… except for one surely gargoyle. Erasmus has spent five-hundred years working at Moonshine Hollows library protecting the town and managing the spell book of a prankster witch who leaned on the side of morally grey, and Erasmus sees zero reason to throw a lavish, too loud, too colorful party that’ll just disturb the books, the bookwyrms, and him. Primrose on the other hand is the towns resident party planner and wants nothing more to put on a spectacular event that’ll honor the library to the fullest extent. And sparks fly on Erasmus and Primroses first meeting… except rather than being sparks of romance their sparks of challenge. Erasmus refuses to let Primrose have her way and throw this party, going so far as to be rude to her and a village elder in the process. And while Primrose isn’t one for confrontation she isn’t about to let Erasmus brash personality deter her from throwing an amazing event even if it means challenging him every step of the way. But those sparks turn into chemistry when these two stop seeing each other as obstacles and start seeing the person beneath and begin to realize that maybe the homes they’ve both felt they’ve been missing in their lives aren’t a person but a place instead!

Truly this book will have you entranced from page one! You will have to know what’s going to happen next! Is the party going to go on, Primrose and Erasmus next banter session, the will they or won’t they give into the chemistry sparking between them tension, and of course which bookwyrm is going to get into the next hilarious shenanigan and you’ll be flipping pages way to late into the night to see what’s going to happen next!

HAPPY READING 📖

Thank you so much to RR Book Tours and Maisy Magill for my ebook of 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀! This review is comprised entirely of my own thoughts & opinions, & is based on the copy I received.

This was another really wonderful, quick, cozy read that was everything I wanted it to be and more! This was a perfect start to my cozy fall TBR and made me just want to curl up on the couch with a cozy blanket! And even though this is Book 2 in the series, it can be read as a standalone! This was my first Maisy read but I’m definitely going to be going back and reading Book 1 in this series because now I’m chasing that cozy fantasy feeling!

This book follows the story of Primrose, our FMC who is super sunshiney, and Erasmus, our half-gargoyle MMC and is the grumpy/broody to Primrose’s sunshine. Primrose is trying to plan a pretty extravagant birthday party for the library but Erasmus is having none of that nonsense. Their dynamic was everything and was written so beautifully! They definitely saw each other as enemies at first but then when they slowly began to learn more about the other, that chemistry really began to take off! I loved the way their relationship fleshed itself out and thought they complemented each other so incredibly well. The perfect example of grumpy x sunshine and opposites attract!

AND The bookwyrms were literally EVERYTHING to me and I want one for myself! I loved how silly they were and they just sounded so cute and fun, and I’d love to have them all over my library if I could🥰

This book was such a good read and I can’t wait to read Book 1 in this series just so I can be in this world again. I loved everything about it and if you’re looking for something that’s sweet, cozy, low stakes, and just a good time, then this is definitely a series you’re going to want to check out!

My thoughts on Must Love Libraries and Libations is much the same as the rest of the series. There were some typos this time around that I feel like anyone who helped in the editing process should’ve caught. Usually that doesn’t bother me and I know typos happen (I’m a typo queen), but with the repetitive nature of wording/phrases and even information or character thoughts it just feels like a compounding of those things rather than a minor thing that slipped through the crack. I’ve said this every review and I stand by it, this series would be great after a decent editorial polishing up. The creativity, the cute magical creatures and the cozy whimsy of it all are so good. It’s definitely a series I’ve had the most mixed feelings on. I just want more from the writing perhaps. Anyway, as always ymmv and read whatever you want. Enjoy it. My few issues I have with this book, and the whole series so far, might not even bother you. It’s just something to be aware of. I super want this series to be the best it can be because the magical creatures, the residents and moonshine hollow itself are so cozy and cute.

On to the things I loved!

• The magical creatures! I love all the bookwyrms and that they live in the library gobbling up any stray magic in the library at night.

• Primrose and her party planning and magic. The Library’s birthday celebration was so delightful and fun!

• Erasmus opening up and putting himself out there in the end.

• The magical escape room Witch Eyreaway’s spell trapped Primrose and Erasmus in.

• The detailed glossary as always. Chef’s kiss. 🤌

• The recipes at the end too!

• As always, the artwork, chapter headers and dividers and everything are so cute! Much planning and effort went into these books.

• This romance actually being a bit more unique than the first two books. As well as some of the wisdoms from Primrose’s friends and even some of her own inner monologue. Loved that. I had my highlighting finger at the ready while I read on kindle.

I do recommend this book and the whole series, but temper your expectations on the writing (or maybe it’s the editing?) a bit maybe. Which pains me to say because I feel bad.

Huge thank you to @authormaisymagill for providing me with an ARC of Must Love Libraries & Libations. I feel so lucky I got to enjoy this story before its release on 8/26.

Just like the other books in this series, I devoured it! It’s the perfect mix of grumpy/sparkly with a touch of whimsical magic. There’s a magical library where books giggle, miniature book dragons (aka Bookwyrms 🐉), and the most enchanting setting tucked inside the small town of Moonshine Hollow. The atmosphere made me want to move right into a stone fixer-upper and have a pixie garden of my own.

Primrose and Erasmus were a lot of fun. It gave a little instalove, but their romance is both sweet and steamy (let’s just say getting locked in a wine cellar leads to some unforgettable moments 👀). Exceptional use of tail.👌🏼Moving along…

I loved the cameos from Rosalyn & Bjorn (book 1) and Kellen & Tansy (prequel), gosh I’ve missed them. I loved getting to know the other side characters even better and the warm touch of found family. This book is quite literally a hug. One of my favorite parts of this story was one of the grandest romantic gestures I’ve read in a long time, it was super cute.

There are lots of parties (that I really wish I could be at in real life) and wingspan gets measured. Don’t get too excited, it’s just a cute little seamstress helping out a friend. Get your mind out of the gutter.

The cherry on top is all the recipes at the end of book. It made me want to immediately add culinary lavender to my cart! Which I will- along with a few other ingredients for my dinners this week.

This book is perfect for the girl who grew up with a Lisa Frank backpack and matching folders and still believes in fairy tales. Now excuse me while I go make myself tea and cuddle my fur baby I wish was made of moss!

Let's talk about "Must Love Libraries and Libations" by Maisy Magill.

I was first introduced to Maisy's works while I was browsing Instagram and fell upon her page. As a lover of all things cozy and fantasy inspired, her take on the "cozy fantasy romance" perked my interest. Which meant I went further down the rabbit hole fell head first into Moonshine Hollow - a whimsical, fantastical, homey little town that has all my hearts desires. I quickly ate up "Must Love Moss & Moonshine" then "Must Love Scones & Secrets". Each one is a standalone, but part of the interconnected world of Moonshine Hollow.

"Must Love Libraries and Libations" introduces us to Primrose, the half-elf/witch who is the town event planner. She's all about making sure to give every celebration the best presence of mind and the most glorious excitement. When the town's library is coming up on it's Eleventh and one birthday, Prim takes it upon herself to ensure that the library get's the best of the best. What she doesn't expect, is the broody, reclusive gargoyle Erasmus, who stands defiantly against her and will not be having it and wants nothing to do with her perky personality and party planning.

Filled with magical creatures (bookwyrms!), whimsical magic, capacious amounts of food, and romance, this cozy read was definitely what I love. The found family, the intricate workings of the towns people, and the focus of these two was such a pleasant surprise. I'm literally addicted to this world and need more of it.

Thank you to Maisy Magill for an advanced copy of this wonderful read for my open and honest review.

“Cozy fantasy romance with a pinch of spice!”

Primrose is a party planning half-elf with an eye for all things sparkly and an infectious shimmering personality. Often told she’s “too much” and ready to find her own place in life. Erasmus is the gargoyle master librarian of Moonshine Hollow who oversees the bookwryms and all the responsibilities of the library. Gargoyle’s are solitary creatures, so he finds himself quite lonely and is often described as grumpy. In Moonshine Hollow, the library is celebrating its 111th birthday. Primrose has been hired by the town elders to plan the party, but Erasmus wants no part of it. The party planner won’t take no for an answer and doesn’t seem intimidated by him. Is that why he can’t get her off his mind? After a rogue spell gets them trapped in a wine cellar together, will they both finally be honest about their feelings?

This book is a delicious mix of fantasy, romance, magic and coziness; small town charm with a pinch of spice 🔥
I was hooked from the beginning! The grumpy/sunshine trope always gets me and this one was GOOD. I have to say that while the romance was great, the friendships between Primrose and the other ladies of Moonshine Hollow made my heart so happy. I was so thrilled for Primrose when she finally got her pink cottage, could move away from her parent’s house and start making her fantasy about having a family there come to life.
I read the prequel to this series as well as the first book so I knew I was in for a treat. If you’re a cozy romance fantasy lover, this novel is for you. A perfect late summer read that’ll have you begging for Maisy to release the next installment in this series! Please let the next book be about Juniper 🤞🏻

Welcome back to Moonshine Hollow!

Sparks fly when Primrose, the bubbly half-Elf party planner, meets Master Erasmus, the grumpy gargoyle guardian of the Moonshine Hollow library. She’d determined to honour the library’s 111th birthday with a spectacular party; he’s determined to thwart her every attempt.

First off, the dedication at the beginning of the book is absolutely beautiful ☺️ (I won’t spoil it) and the little Hobbit references are fabulous!

Every time I immerse myself in the adventures of Moonshine Hollow, it’s like being wrapped in the warmest blanket on the coldest day. Erasmus and Primrose are polar opposites, but they bring out the best in each other. Well, really, Primrose brings out the best in Erasmus because she’s pretty much perfect as she is, in my opinion. The tension Maisy creates between them is SUBLIME! I shouted “make them kiiiiisssss” into my Kindle more than once 😅 (Oh and completely unrelated of course lol… he has a forked tongue 🥵)

I love the little snippets of Moonshine Hollow history that are sprinkled throughout, with the past and present blending together to create its own rich tapestry of interconnected lives and folklore.

The sentient library and the Bookwyrms (small, wingless dragon-like creatures that love books and snacks - we can relate, right? 😅) that live there are so magical - literally and figuratively. I want to spend the rest of my days wandering through the shelves and feeding Stevenson 😍

The end was so special and incredibly emotional (I did a little teary happy dance). I can’t wait for Juniper and Granik’s story; they are so cute but in sooooo much denial 😆

This is my third time reading Maisy Magill's books about Moonshine Hollow and its lovely inhabitants, and as it happened with the first two books, I am once again so smitten with this one. I was utterly captivated by the various focus points of this story: the magical library, the bookwyrms that call it home, its ancient but gorgeous gargoyle librarian, and the charming, sweet, and totally feisty party planner that would eventually win his stony heart.

Reading Maisy's stories on Moonshine Hollow and the way she builds up this world in your mind can make you lose yourself in it. All the characters - both the main ones and all other supporting cast members - are fascinating to read about given their physical appearances, their unique personalities, and their magical abilities. Plus, the romance told of the main characters is always top-notch, with each book telling a uniquely engaging story of the emerging love between the couple.

In this book, I loved how it was about how one feisty half-elf with her sparkling, bubbly personality was able to coax a recluse and grumpy gargoyle out of his self-imposed centuries-old isolation. It had been her transparency and honesty about her feelings for him - in spite of his repeated denial of their connection - that eventually made him realize that his fear of opening up himself and his heart to other people would not lead to rebuke. To me, it seems the message was clear: it takes the love of the right woman to make a man want not just to be different, but be a better version of himself that he never previously thought he could be.

I received a free review copy of this book. I leave this review voluntarily.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Must Love Libraries and Libation by Maisy Magill

Maisy Magill’s enchanted series continues to be a cozy, sparkly escape from reality and I’ve devoured every installment with a grin and a full heart. This one had all the right ingredients: forced proximity (a trope I usually eat up), magical libraries, and bookwyrms with personalities that deserve their own spin-off. And yet… it didn’t quite hit the same for me. I wanted to love it more than I did, and I’m still not sure why. Maybe the pacing felt a little rushed, or maybe I just wasn’t vibing with the emotional beats the way I expected to.

That said, there’s so much to adore here. The wyrmtree library is the stuff of dreams I’d give anything to have one tucked into my local branch. And the bookwyrms? Pure delight. Their sass, sweetness, and scene-stealing charm made every chapter brighter. I found myself wishing I could bottle their energy and sprinkle it into my own reading nook.

This book also delivers some quietly powerful messages:
📚 Never stop supporting your library
✨ Everyone deserves sparkles
🌱 Growth can be messy, magical, and entirely your own
💬 Sometimes the best stories are the ones you didn’t expect to write

One quote that lingered: “Libraries don’t just hold books, they hold people together.” That line felt like a warm hug and a rallying cry all at once.

And while there wasn’t a formal sneak peek, the epilogue heavily hinted that Juniper and Granik are next and I am absolutely here for it. Their dynamic promises chaos, chemistry, and a whole lot of heart. I’m already bracing myself for the emotional whiplash in the best way.

CW: spice, toxic-ish parent

Thank you to the author for the ARC! “Must Love Libraries and Libations” is available now!

Full send on the cozy summer vibes. Give me ten more and a flowy sundress immediately.

Vibrant party planner Primrose has been hired to throw the Moonshine Hollow Library’s 111 birthday party. The library’s reclusive guardian gargoyle, Erasmus, wants nothing to do with the frivolities. Naturally, the two are a perfect match.

Is ‘summer cozy’ a subcategory for the standard ‘cozy romance’ genre? Because it should be. This book makes me feel equal parts snuggly sweater weather and summer picnic in a sundress, and it’s wonderful.

The story falls under the insta-love banner, but with a little hiccup that leads into a wonderful and surprisingly insightful discussion on what is and isn’t acceptable in a potential partner and on ‘fixing’ that person. It brings a nice balance to the story without losing the overall lighthearted feeling. A+ handling of that whole conversation.

This whole book is just perfectly comforting, deliciously lowkey vibes. The bookwyrms (you’ll find them in the library) have my whole heart and I adore them. The MCs are fun, the town would absolutely make my vacation list, and the magic is incredible. Seriously, it’s so beautiful and varied and I loved it. This was the perfect changeup to my heavier reads; if you like cozy fantasy romance, you’ll love this one.

There are so many things to love about this book. For the sake of readability, I'm just going to discuss three things:

The setting:

Moonshine Hollow is a neighborhood where beings of all kinds come together in community, running businesses and community centers. The setting itself is home to magical things like night-blooming trees, and magical people with skills like negotiating with tiny dragons.

Character growth:

Watching Primrose and Erasmus grow in self-confidence and learn to see each other past their initial assumptions was very satisfying. Primrose was very relatable as someone who has often been seen as too much and struggled to be himself. I really liked her growth into self-respect over the course of the book. I liked Erasmus learning not to push people away out of fear.

Magical animals:

Primrose has an adorable thistle hound, and Erasmus cares for cat-sized dragons who like to read and sleep, called Bookwyrms. Some are seniors, some are coupling age, and some are very hungry (looking at you, Stevenson). As an animal-lover, I loved how friendly, curious, and affectionate these little guys are.

So, there you have it: with a cozy setting, character growth, and magical animals, I really enjoyed this book. I got to read a copy of it early (an ARC from Maisy), and I'm grateful to have had this opportunity.

Must Love Libraries and Libations is the second book in the Moonshine Hollow series and this is just as cute as ever. This time we get the joy of getting to know Primrose, the cheerful and exuberant half-elf half-human planner, and Erasmus the gargoyle librarian protector who has watched the community and library grow. Their personalities clash when there’s a birthday party planned to celebrate the library. What happens when Primrose is adamant about throwing a celebration and Erasmus is absolutely against it? Also, how does one go about acquiring one of those adorable bookwyrms?

This book went by so fast that I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to my new friends in Moonshine Hollow! Erasmus is just the perfect amount of grumpy and as someone who grew up spending a lot of time in the library, I couldn’t help but absolutely understand where he was coming from. But Primrose is a determined sassy ball of sparkle and it’s hard not to fall in love with the way she lobs her spirit and responses at him.

For those continuing in the adventures of Moonshine Hollow or want a cozy read just in time for the fall, you’re going to want to check this out!

Thank you so much to Maisy Magill for the gifted ARC! All opinions are my own.

Must Love Libraries and Libations by
@authormaisymagill

Thanks you for the opportunity to read the e arc of this cozy fantasy romance.

Enemies to Lovers
Forced Proximity
She Falls First, He Falls Harder
Grumpy and Sunshine
Magical Library & Cozy Small Town
Protective Alpha with Hidden Soft Side
Magical Mishaps
Tiny Dragons.
Found Family & Positive Female Friendships
Happily Ever After Guaranteed

It's such a journey the self journey for both of these characters. Primrose with her sparkly and loud personality has breathed life and warmth back into Erasmus life. Who wouldn't like a grumpy gargoyle who protects a library. She learns to be to know what she wants and I definitely would love to live in a cottage.

She wraps who she is around him and it little is so cute. He really needs the change. And he realises it. I like both their thought process through the dual POV's.

You've done it again Maisy and I applaud you. It's express warmth and family. Heart and laughter with every little creatures.

Maisy Magill has kept the magic of the Moonshine Hollow series going strong in Must Love Libraries and Libations.

Primrose is the sunshiny party planner extraordinaire of Moonshine Hollow and she's been tasked by the elders with convincing the grumpy, stuck-in-his-ways gargoyle guardian of the library to let the party happen.

Erasmus has been guardian of the Moonshine Hollow library for centuries and no matter how attractive he finds the party planner, he has no plans of allowing her to disturb the peace and sanctity of the library.

Unfortunately for Erasmus, Primrose is persistent and the bookwyrms and even the library itself soon side with Primrose over Erasmus. Soon the perky half-elf is taking up an inordinate amount of space in his thoughts!

Moonshine Hollow is a small town I would move to in a heartbeat. It's full of quirky, but kind-hearted citizens, adorable magical creatures and the occasional spell related mishap.

I can't wait for the next book to see which of the budding romances that were hinted at get to fully blossom!

Thank you Maisy Magill for the opportunity to advance read for you again. 🩷

🥹🥹OMG, I’m instantly crying at the beginning of this! The love that this community shows it residents is just so heartwarming!!! Instantly hooked me! Such a good cozy read!

Primrose is such a sweet bubbly personality that you cannot help but love her. I seriously love the grumpy sunshine dynamic in this book! Like Erasmus is beyond grumpy, I would say that he would have soon turned int o stone like the gargoyle he is if Primrose didn’t bring all her sunshine to him! I love how she turned his world upside down. Was he a hella-stubborn about it? Absolutely! But how he makes up for his mistakes later on and how he SEES her! It just so beautiful!

OMG I almost forgot about the dragons!! I mean how could I! I’m ashamed of myself cause I absolutely love them and their mischievousness! They aer so cute and sweet and troublemakers (especially Stevenson!)

Thank you Maisy for another wonderfully cute and cozy read to give me all the happy feels! It was like a warm hug on a cold day!!🫶

ARC review- This book was very much a sweet, cosy fantasy. It’s a story surrounding the celebration of the small town's library's 111th birthday.

Our FMC, Primrose was sweet, sparkly, and bright. She is the town's party planner with magic that just brings joy.

Our MMC, Master Erasmus, is the grumpy (gargoyle) guardian of the library. He is task-focused, solitary, and lives a very quiet, uncolourful life.

The Bookwyms (little magical dragons without wings) in the library were such a fun addition, with each having their own personalities. They brought so much joy to the book, and I adored them.

Tropes:
Nuisances to lovers
Forced proximity
She falls first, he falls harder
Grumpy/Sunshine
Magical library & Cozy magical town
Magical mishaps
Sparkly, joy-bringing magic
Tiny Dragons (Bookwyrms)
Found family
HEA guaranteed
Spice 1-2 chilli pepper (erm.. forked tongue?!)

This book is part of an interconnected standalone series based in Moonshine Hollow. It can be read alone but you learn more about the town and the people in the other books.

This is the third book I’ve read set in Moonshine Hollow and once again, it left me wanting to move there. This story was cozy, whimsical, and sweet as can be. I adore Primrose’s bold and vibrant personality. I love that she doesn’t make herself quieter or smaller to fit into a box that others would rather put her in. She’s unapologetically herself and it’s beautiful.

Primrose brings the best out in those around her and we see that in her relationship with Erasmus. I honestly wish we got to see a few more interactions between the two of them before they became end game because their banter was amusing. I’d also like to find out a bit more about his past and his job working with the codex.

My favorite part as per usual is the magical creatures. The bookwyrms were absolutely hilarious for never speaking a word. Their personalities were unique and I love the concept of them living in the library and cleaning up spells at the end of the day. They’re just precious.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. Thank you so much to the author for the opportunity!

Maisy has done it again.
I simply cannot get enough of these sweet, cozy reads! I always look forward to diving into them while my husband is on his weekend shifts. It’s the perfect time to curl up and enjoy one uninterrupted.

I adored Primrose with her unique magic, whimsical party planning, and glittery personality. I even saw little glimpses of myself in her! I also loved watching her slowly chip away at our grumpy gargoyle’s tough exterior and bring out his softer side.

A sentient library?? Yes, please!!!

But the true surprise of this book? The bookwryms. I absolutely fell in love with these little wingless dragons (and their adorable names). I want one of my own now!

Another delightful 5 ⭐️ read!
