Out of the Blue

Rate this book
KatyBeth Reilly, horse-trainer extraordinaire, is capable, responsible and hard-working—she hates backing down in a fight. When she meets—completely by chance—Hollywood heartthrob, Asher Fitzpatrick, she decides she wants nothing to do with him. He’s arrogant, self-assured, and seemingly very assured of her.
Asher doesn’t like taking no for an answer—he’s determined to get to know Katy—so he makes a couple of phone calls that set the stage for their second meeting. When Katy comes face to face with Asher again, she knows she’s going to need help this time—not because she feels out-maneuvered, but because for the first time in her life she knows she doesn’t want to fight.

Author of steamy, yet clean and closed door romances.
Classy, sassy, steamy, and clean...

A child of divorce and abuse, E. L. Irwin found escape in reading and writing. She’s a self-described romantic-rebel who wears her heart on her sleeve and tends to shoot from the hip on subjects that matter. E.L. lives in the Pacific Northwest on a small farm with her husband, children, and multiple animals. When not reading or writing romance, E.L. enjoys, riding horses, going for drives, tattoos, antique shopping, starry nights, the smell and sound of rain, a deep red wine, a smooth whisk(e)y, camping, bonfires, and hanging out with her horses, cows, chickens, ducks, and goats.

I'm not going to lie... I struggled getting through this book. The beginning of the book was amazing and had me laughing out loud. I had high hopes for loving this book. But the more I read it, the more I wished I would have done more research before picking up Out of the Blue. I am definitely in the minority here.

I am going to apologize ahead of time if my review offends anyone. These are my thoughts and opinions and it is not my intention to offend.

I try my best to stay away from Christian fiction because you can never tell how preachy a book is going to be. When I read, I read to escape reality.. not read to be preached to. And sadly that is how I felt while reading this book. There is a very strong message of waiting until you are married before having an intimate relationship. While I feel that is a really good message to get out there, in this particular instance, I felt that it was extremely overdone. It got to the point that I felt it took away from the plot. It was repeated over and over and over again. At one point I found myself angry and wanting to yell... "Okay! We get it! No sex!" But I took a deep breath and continued on with the book.

The only other thing that bothered me was there were a few things that did not seem believable at all. Asher's second profession for one and the discussion between Kate and the 13 year old guest for another. I just couldn't... I'm sorry. The ending also felt a bit rushed to me.

Honestly, other than those few things, I feel like I could have loved this book. It really did have an amazing start to it but in the end, it fell kind of flat for me. But that has more to do with me and my personal reading preferences, than it does to the author. I can tell that she is very passionate and feels deeply for her characters and their experiences. I know that someone, somewhere must have needed to read this story or she would not have been inspired to write it.

If any of the above does not bother you, then this book is definitely one to check out. If it does bother you, I would suggest skipping over this one.

Content:
Religion - Heavy. There is a lot of talk about waiting until after you're married to have an intimate relationship.
Language - None
Romance - Steamy Clean. There are scenes of passionate kissing and almost going too far. Also talks of desires and having a hard time waiting.
Violence - Moderate. There are a couple of fight scenes that got a little detailed. Also talk of rape and killing different characters.

I was given an ARC for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.

CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS

This story has multiple different peoples POV. These are my favorite type of books to read, simply because you get to see what is happening from several separate angles. The main character's POV is 1st person, however the other character is 3rd person. Never have I had a book like this, but I actually liked it.

This book was a very refreshing book to say the least because it contained no sex scenes, it was pretty steamy at some points though, and had no language in it. This goes to prove that you can write a book, a great book and not have all that garbage in it to sell your story.

We meet KatyBeth in the beginning of the novel. She is your average woman who is a total tomboy, but can dress up and knock them dead gorgeous when she wants to ranch hand/owner at The Blue Avenue dude ranch. KatyBeth has 3 best friends who are just there for her in this book: Candi, Calvin, and Gina. I hope to see more of them in the future. This is Katy's family that is not blood family. She works from daybreak till sundown on her ranch. She also teaches horse lessons. When she is coming back from buying a couple of horses she is almost knocked over by this very tall masculine guy in a coffee shop. She snots off some remark about lady's first and it takes him back and makes him remember her.

We meet the ever so famous Asher Fitzpatrick at a coffee shop trying to be a normal person. He is a Hollywood actor..or so it seems. He nearly knocks down this young woman in a coffee shop when he steps into line and she snots something mouthy off to him and he is taken back by it. He notices The Blue Avenue due ranch logo on her horse trailer and gets on the phone to one of his best friends, Samuel and finds out all he can about this girl..KatyBeth. She has intrigued him, he is not so easily intrigued. You find out later in the story as to why. Asher arranges for his next movie to take place on Katy's ranch. Cory, Asher's other best friend, has him covered from all angels as well when it comes to the movie and locations.

When they meet next fireworks explode and not necessarily the good kind. Katy realizes she has to be Asher's right hand person and that is what she signed up for. She is ok with it then realizes that there is something more there than just friendship. Where will this movie take them? What happens when the movie is over and it is time for Asher to leave.

Asher gets a mysterious phone call one evening and leaves and can't say where to..just says he has some business to take care of. When he finally tells Katy of the state of the phone call and of the business how does she take it? Will it be the end of them?

One question remains with this book? Do Asher and Katy get a HEA? After all is reviled...Who is Asher Fitzpatrick? Who is KatyBeth? Can they be happy together? One with a simply country life and one with a glamorous acting career. You need to read this novel to find out all your answers and more! I highly recommend it!

This is a Christian fiction novel, however it is not at all preachy or forceful in showing you that Christians are better than others. Actually one scene shows you that some Christians are just as human as non Christians. "Real Christians Don't hate anyone. There're a lot of folks who call themselves Christians that pay no attention at all tho the teachings of Christ. I can't do anything about those people. I'm only in charge of myself. And I don't hate anyone. To do so would be tremendously hypocritical on our part. God commands us to love our enemies even, We are to hate and stand against sin, thought --all sin. It's not hateful to say something wrong or to disagree with it." This is a quote that I agree with and KatyBeth said it.

Ms. Irwin has done a great job with her first novel. She has stated on her website and her Facebook page that she would want a novel that her teenage daughter would be able to read. I think she has done that and more. I would be proud to let any teenager read this novel and not have any qualms about it.Thank you for being a breath of fresh air Ms. Irwin!

Horses, dogs named Jack and Jill, a dude ranch filled with cowboys, and a famous actor to boot? What girl isn't going to love this? But that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to things to love about this book.

KatyBeth is a very spunky horse trainer who has grown up on a dude ranch, and is now part owner, as well as having the best reputation throughout the area for her abilities as a horse whisperer. When our hero, aforementioned hot actor dude, first, literally, runs into KB, she has just had quite a scuffle with a horse who isn't quite listening to her yet, and all she wants is a coffee and to get back on the road. This all leads to a meet cute at its finest.

I have to mention the 80's music references....I love that this young girl even has a remote idea that Bryan Adams and Foreigner exist, let alone loves them. If you are of an age to remember these bands, be prepared to be digging for cassettes (or at least searching YouTube) if they haven't made it to your digital playlist yet.

Asher, the hot hunk of famous actor fame, had been offered a movie that would require him to work with horses and needed the kind of ranch setting KatyBeth could provide. He was ready to turn the part down until this little spitfire unexpectedly entered - and just as quickly exited - his orbit. He pulls some strings to make her family an offer they can't refuse so he can have a chance to get to know him. Of course, there is the local boy she sees as a brother who wants her to want more. Asher's entourage are interesting and quirky characters as well. Ms. Irwin excels at making all the characters real, making it easy to find yourself completely engrossed in a sweet romance.

And then comes a huge plot twist I can honestly say I never would have seen coming, but I loved every bit of it.

This is a clean, Christian romance, so it is easy to recommend for almost any audience. I left that tidbit for the end, because the story is so easy to get wound up in that you truly don't miss the things that by definition are left out of a clean, Christian romance. I also didn't want to start with that because I know a number of readers will automatically pass on a book labeled that way, thinking it will be boring, preachy, or whatever preconceived notion that genre brings to mind.

This book is a pure delight!

I devoured this book in a day. A sweet romance between a famous actor and a cowgirl through a happenstance meeting. I loved that there was NO smut in it, but still oh so, romantic.

I usually can't stay up past 10pm, but this book kept my attention and entertained me way past my bedtime. I just kept telling myself I was just going to read one more page...until it was 1am. E.L. Irwin is a genius story teller, does a great job with character development & I love that this book is a romance, but clean & unpredictable. If you're an all american girl & enjoy a good story, this is a great read, highly recommend; worth your time & money!

Out of the Blue

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, which featured a rugged bodyguard-type MMC with a strong presence and a beautiful, capable rancher FMC. I appreciated the MMC's persistent pursuit of the FMC and the vivid Wyoming setting. The inclusion of faith elements and music references added depth to the narrative, and I admired the MMC's commitment to abstinence until marriage.

I enjoyed the different POV's in Out Of The Blue. The characters are colorful and the emotions high. Good clean romance in this is an excellent pick. In Out Of The Blue, two very different worlds collide, a rancher and a movie star. There is heat and passion between the two, but is handled beautifully by Irwin. This makes it all the more real.
The unexpected twists and turns were perfectly placed. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happened next. I couldn't put it down. Well done and five stars to both E.L. Irwin and Out Of The Blue.

This is a beautifully written book about love and respect.

It tells of the relationship between KathyBeth and Asher, the “cowboy” and the sexy movie star who seemed to be the least likely pair ever. Please refer to blurb to read about the storyline.

First of all, contemporary romance isn’t my choice of genre. AND I’ve never read a Christian-themed book before. Reading through Out of the Blue by EL Irwin, I could honestly say that I wanted the two to just “jump the sack” and be done with it even if it was in a closed door sort of way. The heat is definitely there and the passion between the two had been described in detail that I felt the sexual tension along with the characters. But as I delved into their lives, I learned to appreciate the reasoning behind the no sex before marriage idealism portrayed throughout the story.

It’s rare to read about high morals and respect in modern books nowadays and to come across it reading Out of the Blue was quite a refreshing change. It is a book about love and respect, not just between a man and a woman but also for parents, siblings and friends. KathyBeth’s relationship with all the people in her life is such a lovely thing to follow and felt like a modern fairy tale. I salute EL Irwin for creating characters readers could fall in love with without the usual angst of explicit sex scenes found in most books these days. We get several glimpse of “love scenes” instead…because that’s what they are, full of love.

Check out more of my reviews on my blog http://gemmareadstoomuchforittomennor...

Out of the blue is the first book I have read by this author, I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review so here goes...

What to say about this book....

I'm not sure how to say this without sounding incredibly offensive...

The majority of people have some kind of faith or religion, in my opinion to each their own as long as they don't try to force their religious views at me and vice versa. Unfortunately as far as I'm concerned the religious aspect of this book was so in your face it overshadowed the rest of the plot!!!

I'm married and I think it's a worthwhile and amazing institution, I love my husband and I think our relationship has strengthened since we made our legally binding ties to each other.

Unfortunately this story felt like it was standing on a soapbox you must get married, you must wait to have sex until you get married!!! I'm not knocking anybody who believes this that's your choice but I personally have no real interest in reading about it!

This story had so much potential and I was honestly waiting for it to turn into an absolute smutfest, Alas that wasn't to be.

Ash and Katy could have had this amazing connection and passionate love but everytime they started to bond and interact it was completely overshadowed by the moral standpoint of the no sex part. Which was thrown at the reader ever ten seconds!!!

Yes I like a bit of smut in my book but I can also appreciate a good PG13 YA novel. There is absolutely no reason why characters can't have an intense and earth moving passionate connection without having sex. Example A the twilight books Bella and Edward hardly touch for the first book and this is literally so scorching hot girls and women alike were having wet dreams about the idea of a love just like them!!

And for me that's where this story completely missed the ball. There was no need to slam the anchors on everytime Asher and Katy got close because it could still have been incredibly sexy without them having to cross those moral barriers they put in place.

Ok I'm going to rant in a different direction now.... WTF was going on with Asher’s whole second profession????

That completely came out of nowhere and genuinely confused the hell out of me. He's famous how would that even work????

I'm sorry but this book just didn't work on any level for me it could have been great but it just wasn't sorry 2 stars!

**UPDATE/10-27-21**
Just wanted to give readers a heads up. Currently, Out of the Blue is NOT available to purchase (unless you'd like to purchase a signed copy directly from me) because my publisher has decided to close its doors and has reverted all rights back to me. I have recently signed with a literary agent and hope to have some news available for you soon regarding this novel. *My plan, is to update/revise it and I'm working on a bonus chapter to go with it's re-release. Thanks so much for your time.

So, yes, I wrote this book, and I've read this book, and guess what? I LOVED IT!! That probably isn't that crazy, I guess. Because honestly, I wrote a book that I'd want to read. And I wrote it in such a way that I'd be completely comfortable with my own daughter reading it, or one of her friends. Yes, it gets steamy, it really does, but it's also clean. So there; I hope you enjoy it. For those who have read Out of the Blue already -- THANK YOU SO MUCH! Take care and keep reading!

This is one of those stories to sit back, relax and enjoy. KatyBeth Reilly is comfortable around horses and all the men she comes in contact with on the ranch she owns with her parents. And she's tough. Until Asher Fitzpatrick bumps into her at a coffee shop. After that she has trouble getting him and his blue eyes off her mind. And then he arranges to bump into her again.

He could have any woman he wants but he wants the one who hasn't fallen all over him,

"'You could wink at any given moment and have your pick of women and you want nothing to do with them. Why this woman?' Cory asked again."

And Calvin has known KatyBeth forever and would take her in a second, but she just wants to love him like a brother.

The story is cleverly told back and forth between KatyBeth and Asher. Trying as hard as she can not to fall for this guy, it gets harder and harder not to.

If you are looking for a clean romance you will love this book.

one of the best books I've read this year. I loved how beautifully well written this book is, and how exceptional the main characters are. I was not expecting the huge twist in the end. I'm glad I put the book down before I literally finished the book in one night, 😂. I loved that they kept the book PG even with the little passionate bits. I loved even more how she spoke of hanging on to ones virtue, and the anecdote she gave with it. breathtaking, I loved the book just wish the ending gave us a little peek as to their future together.

This book was truly amazing and incredibly charming. The delightful banter between the main characters provided a humorous and sweet dynamic throughout the story. I particularly appreciated how the book maintained a PG rating. This closed-door romance, with its focus on emotional intensity rather than explicit content, is an absolute must-read.

First thing I am going to say is
I. LOVE. THIS. BOOK!!!
E. L. has some amazing talent.
This is one of those really great books that you can't put down until you finish it and if you do put in down it calls to you.

Most of the main characters are Christian. Throughout the book the Christian aspect is present, but not really up in your face. But if you have a problem with a religious aspect then this may not me the book for you.
As far as the sexual stance, E. L. believes in marriage before sex.
The main characters Asher and Kate
definitely have love and plenty of passion. But they don't cross the line of "waiting for marriage".

Being a young reader it is REALLY hard to find good romantic books that are clean but not boring.
This book nailed it! It was clean, but not boring. There are a couple plot twists that keep things entertaining, but not horrific.
My mom is very protective, she always makes sure she checks out books I want to read before letting me read them. There can't be any bad language or descriptive sexual content. Again this book nailed it!
So thanks E. L. Irwin for writing a clean and amazing book!

I was given an ARC for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.

CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS

This book was amazing. It was definitely a good read! I absolutely loved the fact that this book was hot hot hot, but with no sex scenes.

KatyBeth is a cow girl. She has grown up on a ranch that is both a working ranch and caters to guests that come to visit the ranch. She has grown up around horses and can handle them really well. The book starts with KatyBeth purchasing more horses for the ranch. On her way back home she stops at a coffee shop. The coffee is where she meets Asher. KatyBeth doesn't know that Asher is a movie star. Both KatyBeth and Asher make an impression on each other. When KatyBeth leaves the coffee shop, Asher obtains her name from the barista. He then uses her name and the logo on her pick up to track her down.

A few weeks later, KatyBeth and her parents receive a contract request from a movie company. They want to use the ranch to shoot their next movie. They also want to pay KatyBeth to be a personal trainer for the starring actor. The money is too much for them to turn down.

Who is Asher Fitzpatrick? What happens between him and KatyBeth? Do they both survive?

I immensely enjoyed this book. I couldn't wait to find out what happens next as the pages turned. I loved the ending. I can not wait to read more by this author. Thank you E.L. Irwin for a fantastic read!

This is the story of a small town girl and a Hollywood actor, but it's above all a story of figuring out who you are and also the person you want to be.

Out of the Blue is sexy without having any sex scenes, so perfect for those who are tired of books that are all about the sex. Christianity is a part of the story, but not in a preachy way, but at the same time it will definitely speak to Christians.

The main character, KatyBeth, is beautiful and she knows it, which I found refreshing. I'm tired of seeing girls in books waiting for a guy to show up and tell them that they're worth something.

As for Asher, the main guy, he is, as Irwin describes him, "an Alpha Male" in looks and personality. Or at least he is at first.

I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for a sexy but clean romantic read.

And what is that?”
"Self-control.”
“That’s never been a strong suit for you?”
“Not until I met you,” he said.

Asher Fitzpatrick is hero of swoon worthy material. Katy-Beth Reilly or Kate as Asher lovingly refers to her is a heroine to be proud of. She stands her ground and sticks to her morals even when faced with the six foot five, movie star cowboy temptation known as Asher Fitzpatrick. I loved their banter and the tug and pull of the fierce attraction between the two main characters.

I don't usually read this type of romance, but EL Irwin managed to hold my interest with Asher and Kate's story.

If you love a good, clean romance, I highly recommend reading Out of the Blue by EL Irwin.

Absolutely Pure Fire Romance

Goodness, so refreshing to read a Christian, closed door romance, that STILL shows the passion. That Christian, doesn’t mean no passion. I absolutely appreciated how the characters honestly communicated and not a bunch of assuming and guessing, but healthy relationships. Loved the gentleman, loved the community, loved the clean passion! Thankful to read Calvin’s story ended and other side romances. Curious about Cody and Candi. Looking into book 2!
