A woman running from chaos. A man with an unexpected surprise. A romance in the most unlikely of places. EmmaMen are assholes. So it’s no surprise when I catch my ex cheating that I find myself back home, at the practice rink, looking for a distraction. Which is exactly what I get when I run into Greyson Ford and Gracie.
Taking care of Gracie, his sweet baby girl in exchange for a place to stay should be a piece of cake, but the more time I spend with Greyson away from his daughter, the more the lines start to blur between us…
Can I trust Greyson won’t break my heart? Or will history put us both in the penalty box?
GreysonThe last thing I ever expected was to find out I had a daughter, but the minute I met Gracie, I knew there was nothing I wouldn’t do for her. Including hiring Emma, the cute, crazy woman who’s been practically MIA from our friends group the last four months.
Seeing Emma with Gracie, I know it’s for the best. However, the more I get to know Emma beyond her impulsive facade, the more I realize I might be falling for a woman that has the power to destroy me. But I won’t let that stop me.
Because this time, Emma is the goal, and I’m ready to skate my way to happily ever after.
Unexpectedly Yours is a pro hockey romance filled with swooning moments, friendly banter, lots of spice, a crazy found family, and a guaranteed happily ever after. It is book two in the Sticks and Stilettos series, and can be read as a standalone.
Chloe Rouxel is a Canadian writer who lives for romance and good books. A hopeless romantic at heart, you can always find her writing down notes about the perfect love story. Whether that involves a golden-retriever hero, or a morally gray alpha, she’ll think of a way to make you fall in love with him.
When she’s not spending her days trying to tame her three young wildlings, she’s lost to the voices in her head with her laptop in hand, daydreaming about her many many book boyfriends.
The moment Emma and Greyson stepped onto the page together, I could feel this story was going to be special.
Emma moves in to help care for Gracie, and what starts as two people barely tolerating each other turns into something unexpectedly tender. Emma's history with her mother has worn her down for years, and seeing how naturally she loves Gracie makes every bit of her heartbreak and growth feel real. Greyson picks up fast that she is nothing like the dramatic person he assumed she was, and watching his view of her soften is one of the most rewarding parts of the story.
The Griffins world adds so much charm, from the wives to the chaotic teammates who make the whole book feel like a found-family bubble you want to be part of. Emma's relationship with her dad evolving was such a sweet highlight. And when everything blows up, it hits hard. Greyson lashes out in a way that cuts deep, especially knowing Emma's insecurities, and her reaction to something as meaningful as her childhood mug makes the moment even more emotional.
What makes the ending satisfying is that Greyson does not just beg for forgiveness. He consistently shows her that she matters, that she is loved, and that she deserves to be chosen. The book is long but full of heartfelt moments, strong character work, and a team dynamic that keeps you hooked.
I already miss these characters and cannot wait to jump back into this world again.

Grateful to Chloe Rouxel and her Team for the Advanced Reader Copy. All views expressed are solely my own. ✨
This book has hit my favorite hockey romance list and I am so looking forward to future works by this author. This book gives you so many feels. The love, anxieties, and loss were so tangible.
Our dear Emma, who Grey initially views as "crazy" and not a great role model, is anything but that. She comes off as confident and that little affects her, but her backstory is so heartbreaking at times. Her mother is the absolute worst, and Emma has internalized so many negative things about herself because of this.
Emma's relationship with Gracie "aka little tulip" shows how loving and caring she is. She puts everyone first and views herself as everyone's second choice. This book is a beautiful love story of her trying so hard to overcome this. You can see how much she loves Gracie and tries to downplay her role with raising her.
Very quickly Grey realizes that Emma isn't what he thought she was. He was the perfect partner for her - even standing up to her mom which caused some well-deserved dominos to fall. He put so much faith into their relationship with each other and Gracie.
I LOVED how Emma's dad immediately started referring to Gracie as his granddaughter, even when they hadn't really defined what their relationship was. He knew he messed up with Emma's childhood and was owning up to his mistakes.
The main incident in the third act gave me initial panic. We quickly find out there was a reasonable explanation as to what happened, but Grey freaks out and compares Emma to her mother. He very quickly realizes that he messed up and leaves Emma shattered.
The best part about the end wasn't the fact that he was just trying to get Emma back. He was showing her that she was worthy and loved and kept showing up for her.
This relationship was so real and relatable. Kinda wish we had an epilogue that showed the future a bit but there is another book coming. 😊
This book was definitely one of my most anticipated books of 2025! I freaking LOVED book one. Even though love is a too small word for it. And book 2 isn't anything less 🤩 Chloe just knows how to use words. Greyson might not be as obsessed as Siles, but he doesn't love less 🥰 Not just is he an absolutely devoted dad, he is also an incredible lover 😎 He didn't know about Gracie until she was 6 months old. I'm not going to tell you the story behind it, that's in the book 😉 But he loved her from the very first moment 🩷 And he stands for the people he loves. That's very clear when he meets Emma's parents for the first time. Her mother 🤬 But I loved Emma's dad 🩷
This book is so full of emotions. Just you know, there is no cheating this time, but still so many other things 🥹 If I didn't cry because of something sad, I cried because I had to laugh so much 🤣 For example, about Greyson's dad. OMG, this man... I'm already afraid of reading about him in book 4 again when it's Greyson's sister's book 🙈
Then there is the scene with the new nanny, because Emma is just the "temporary" one. Or the scene at Gracie's first birthday at the indoor playground, I just say "slides" 😎🤣
I so love how they are all this one big family. Family isn't just because of 🩸. And these guys and girls show it EXTREMELY 🩷
I can't wait to read book 3. I'm a huge MFM fan and god, Gabe and Noah are soo special. The twins that aren't twins 😁 And their obsession with Veronica, and her "hate" against them 😎
Btw, this was book #300 this year 🤩 And yes, I especially picked this one when it was clear it comes to it 😁
Thanks to the author for trusting me with an ARC 🩷
Chloe manages to encapsulate every single element you can imagine in a novel. The happy, the sad, the hilarious and the heartfelt moments that make you literally touch your heart. Unexpectedly Yours continues from book one so seamlessly with even more to unravel and experience with our favorite hockey team and the family that was born from not blood but pure unexpected love. You come to love Greyson and Emma as they battle their way through every single moment spent together - leaving you to grab the edge of your chair, turn the fan on or grab the tissues. This is such a cozy and beautiful piece that has just the right amount of spice to keep your blush coming! While navigating the unknown, the unpacked pain and baggage alongside Little Tulip and our lovely Little Lotus in the picture, their hearts are tested beyond measure but has them coming out stronger together. It's beautiful to see that all the big, tough and closed off men are actually the biggest romantics and that strongest women are made from heartache and broken homes that rewrote what it means to define our own worth and that who we surround ourselves with makes all the difference!
Reading this a second time was bittersweet and such a thrill that I can't even begin to describe. This novel touches on so much it's impossible to not relate to it and learn from it.
Wow. My first book by this author thanks to an ARC and did she deliver. Greyson, a hockey hottie and new dad, and Emma, recently cheated on by a long term boyfriend, initially an unlikely pair run the gamut of emotions as she becomes Gracie’s (Little Tulip) nanny. Through all kinds of situations with incredible character development you can’t help but fall in love and root for them. I love the flower motif throughout the book as well.
Emma steps in as a mother figure and makes a decision that turns out poorly. Greyson reverts back to his previous ways and explodes spewing evil venom. Can he win her back and get her to trust him or is she too broken with Mommy issues and a cheating ex chirping in her head?
Chloe Rouxel does a fantastic job of expounding on all the relationships in the book from the girls and their hockey husbands, parents/grandparents, and a sick child in need. I felt like I was in the middle of this group the entire time. Can’t wait to go back and read her first book and await the next one!
This was an ARC read for me, and I’ll be honest—it took me a while to get through it for a variety of reasons. The book felt a couple hundred pages too long; it could easily have been around 300 pages and still delivered the same emotional impact. I also struggled a bit with the spice, but that’s purely a personal preference (I tend to skip spicy scenes), so for me it could’ve been toned down.
What I loved: The character development was really well done. The MMC broke my heart a little, but he fully redeemed himself by the end. There’s a moment of loss in the story that genuinely made me tear up—it was beautifully written. The FMC was sweet, slightly chaotic, and an absolute joy to follow. She had moments that made me cringe in the best way and plenty that made me laugh out loud.
Tropes: *Hockey Romance *Single dad * Found Family *Slow-Burn *Temporary Nanny
This was a great read. Emma and Grayson story is well written and I love it! There is so much character growth within each other and within there relationship. I definitely recommend it if you love slow burn Hockey Romance. I had the pleasure of reading this book early!
So this is the second instalment in the Sticks & Stiletto’s series by Chloe Rouxel, & lemme tell you i’ve been excited to read this one after the little hint dropped at the end of the first book! Again, Chloe has smashed it out of the park, or should i say right in the net, it’s hockey after all.
We’ve already met Greyson & Cecelia’s best friend Emma in book one, they don’t really get on and stay well clear of each other, but fate has different plans for these two. After running to the hockey rink after discovering her dirtbag -now ex- boyfriend Tommy with his assistant, Emma needs somewhere to clear her head, she doesn’t want to run straight to her friends after avoiding them for months, its there that she see’s the cutest little baby in coach Shane’s arms, since when did he have a kid??? She goes down to offer a helping hand & that’s where Shane confirms the baby’s not his but one of his players, whilst Emma’s helping out with baby Gracie, Greyson goes mad WHAT ON EARTH IS THE CRAZY ONE DOING WITH MY CHILD?!? (Yes… Mr Playboy had an unexpected shock not so long ago & now has sole custody of this beautiful bundle) But he then notices, he’s never seen his little girl light up like that with anyone else, hell, he’s never even heard her laugh before. With Emma stuck with no place to go & Greyson struggling with juggling both Hockey and being a single dad whilst trying to find a decent nanny, he offers Emma stay with them & take care of Gracie, it’s an offer Emma cannot refuse, she’s already fell in love with her little tulip.
From there, Greyson gets to see the real Emma, not the one he thought was annoying and self absorbed, but her kind & caring nature, why hadn’t he seen that before? Well.. now he’s taken the time to truly get to know her, he’s infatuated, every little thing intrigues him, he’s growing more and more addicted each day & seeing how much she loves his little girl, that just makes him want her more. He realises that even the times when he thought he disliked Emma, his attention was still always on her, even if it was out of annoyance, he couldn’t have been more wrong.
After putting up walls for so long & battling so many insecurities in silence, Emma has never felt more seen than with Greyson, its like he knows her without her even telling him, he sticks up for her when her god awful mother tries to bring her down and she couldn’t be more grateful, each passing day she’s falling more and more for the hot daddy she now lives with & nothing can stop her, they feel like a family. That is until something happens to shake those foundations she thought were solid, her walls go right back up & Greyson has to prove just how much his bunny means to him.
I loved this book, this had me howling with laughter so many times! Emma’s bright personality was an absolute delight, i loved how strong she was but how she finally let someone in to take care of her, the found family vibes is so comforting, they really are such an amazing group! Greyson’s dad had me crying laughing most of the time with his bluntness, he was hilarious & the banter topped it all off! Such a beautiful book, i’m so happy Greyson & Emma got their happily ever after, it was truly deserved, i’m so excited there’s more books to come & we get to see the characters throughout it all, it brings me a sense of comfort knowing i’ll be seeing them so much in the future, i love them all & i’m so so grateful Chloe is creating a world as beautiful as this one 🫶🏽
I cried multiple times during this book. I was NOT prepared for that at all. This book was everything. I can’t wait to go back and read book one and I’m excited for books 3&4 to come out next year. We begin by learning that Emma is dating a guy named Tommy. From the start, we can tell that he’s a terrible person. I’m so glad he didn’t stick around for long. He’s a complete jerk. After Emma leaves him, she goes back to her friends. Since she doesn’t have a place to live yet, Greyson lets her move in with him. He needs someone to watch his daughter, Gracie, and she needs a place to stay. Emma immediately gives Gracie a nickname after meeting her. The nicknames they have for each other are adorable. Emma calls Gracie her little Tulip, while Grey calls his daughter Buttercup. Greyson apparently had a nickname for Emma for years but never said it out loud; until he accidentally did. He calls her Bunny. Emma reciprocates and gives him a nickname too. She calls him Wolf. Over the weeks, they start to really get to know each other and things between them become more and more intimate. However, Emma doesn’t want things to continue because she doesn’t want them to become awkward and ruin things since she’s Gracie’s nanny. During dinner at Emma’s parents’ house, Greyson stands up for Emma when her mom is being a snob again. The confrontation gives her dad a wake-up call. I was so happy when he told off her mom. It was so hot! After that night, I was so happy that her dad came around and wanted to make things right with Emma. It made me wish my parents would do that. After a while they get together for real and things go pretty well for them. That is until a certain event that involves Gracie happens. Greyson lashes out and says some things he didn’t mean and probably should have never said, especially knowing how vulnerable he knows Emma is and how she feels about her mother. She has this special mug from when she was little and when that mug broke, I felt her pain acutely because I know how it feels to lose something that holds immense significance to you—a lasting reminder of someone you love. Greyson makes every effort to make amends for his actions. It takes some time, but Emma eventually forgives him, and they both find happiness in the end.
Reading Unexpectedly Yours felt like sitting at your vanity in a silk robe, listening to your favourite love songs while your heart does tiny dramatic flips. It’s pure girlie perfection. This book turned me into an emotional wreck in the best possible way. I CRIED, I LAUGHED, I SCREAMED… sometimes all within the same chapter. The emotional whiplash? Exquisite.
I don’t know how Chloe does it, but her words have power - the kind that makes you feel everything all at once. Hello?? I was over here highlighting every other line like it was sacred scripture. Her writing felt like being seen, like being held, like the coziest rainy day read you never want to end.
So let’s get into it. After escaping a controlling, cheating narcissist, Emma finds herself reconnecting with old friends… and a group of charming hockey players. She is the ultimate soft girl heroine: sweet, bubbly, loveable, and quietly battling her insecurities. Her quirks and warmth make her impossible not to root for, and her healing journey is absolute chef’s kiss.
And then there’s Greyson. Swoon. Tall, grumpy, a devoted single dad hockey player - he pretends to be composed and unaffected, but he very clearly melts every time Emma smiles. Protective, charming, and low key obsessed, he’s the kind of man who makes your heart do those tiny, treacherous flips.
At the ice rink, Emma meets little Gracie, Greyson’s adorable daughter, and the sparks are instant. When Greyson asks Emma to be their live in nanny, the stage is set for all the laughter, heartbreak, and fluttery romance moments you could ever want.
Full of heart fluttering tension, hilarious banter, and genuine emotional depth, Emma and Greyson’s story is chaotic, adorable, and completely sizzling.
(This is book two in the Sticks & Stilettos series. You’ll appreciate the characters even more if you read Eternally Yours first, but it can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone!)
I actually couldn’t remember the dates I read this book this year, but going through my Goodreads realized I didn’t rate it and that is a TRAVESTY.
Ok. I love to support Canadian authors and Chloe is as sweet as they come. She trusted me with an advanced read of this book, and it did not disappoint.
It’s a cute sports romance, second in the series. Emma was my favourite supporting character in the first book in this series. This follows her and Ford, and the ups and downs of their relationship.
Emma’s humor really shone through in the first book. On my first read through the second book, I was kind of sad that I didn’t see her humor as much as the first book. However, on my second read through, it really wouldn’t have fit with the storyline and where she was at mentally/what she was going through during this book. You still get her zingy one liners, which are always my favourite. I LOVE when Emma banters (with Silas, Fords dad, EVERYONE). The banter is top notch.
The conflict in this book takes a very different route than with Silas and Cecilia in the first book. Silas and Cecilia left me devastated. Ford and Emma’s conflict was easier to read, but sad in a very different way. I truly feel like there is a little bit of something for everyone in Chloe’s books. So far, I have loved reading the different storylines and conflicts and how the characters respond. I feel like the conflicts in her books are very REAL. I find a lot of conflict in modern romance books seems very forced and unrealistic; Chloe seems to be able to make the conflict within her books fit within the storyline perfectly, and they don’t seem so crazy and far fetched that you can’t relate to them.
I feel blessed to have read some of the ARCs from this author, and can’t wait to read more.
Ps Chloe if you’re reading this… more men in suits please 😂
I love single dad tropes so I was super excited to get an ARC from Chloe Rouxel, so thank you!
Unexpectedly Yours is book 2 of a series, but can be read as a standalone. It’s a nanny x employer who happens to be a famous hockey player.
It starts off as an enemies to lovers, since the two don’t exactly like each other. She moves into to nanny the baby he didn’t know he had as the mom passed away, and obvs they start to like each other. They get together super early in the book, like 20% in. You’d think that would be the main conflict…. Or the end of the story. But it just keeps going, and going, and going. I don’t know why this book was 600+ pages long but it was.
A few things i liked: - the found family. These players and their partners/friends are sooo fun to read about. - All the side characters have their own little arcs which I’m assuming is to help lead them into their own standalone books. & I happen to love their side stories. I have a feeling I’ll continue on and read their stories because I feel attached to them now. - I LOVE how he stood up for her against her mom. The bitch that she is. - The spice was spicin’ 🔥
The things I didn’t really like: - I enjoyed the spice. But some of it got super super cringe. The dirty talk could use some finessing…. And The pet names? I really did NOT like the whole Bunny thing. Especially this line: “bunny’s really hungry for a tasty carrot right now. Would you happen to have one for me?” 🤮🤮🤮 & Mighty Ford? *gag* - The book was WAY too long. - As a mom, I absolutely would have hurled Emma out the door for allowing my child to be missing for 4 FUCKING HOURS without calling the cops - A 9-4 score in hockey playoffs is very VERY unrealistic. - I feel like there really wasn’t a plot? It felt more like a soap opera… where the main plot ended up resolving so early in the book and the rest was just a series of short conflicts with no definitive end.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. Wish it was shorter or had more of a slow burn but it is what it is. I’ll probably read the next one but more of a filler book for me when I need something to read here and there, because committing to a 600+ page book of minor conflicts isn’t something I would want to read independently.
This was my first Chloe Rouxel read, and as a longtime hockey-romance girly, I dove in with high hopes — and this book definitely brought the banter, chemistry, and chaos.
The story follows Emma McKenzie and Greyson Ford, star player of the New York Griffins. These two start out absolutely not liking each other - she sees him as a player, he sees her as dramatic - but circumstances force them together, and watching their dynamic shift was one of my favorite parts of the book.
One of the true highlights is the Griffins team world Rouxel builds. The wives, the friendships, the locker-room antics - and especially Noah and Gabe, who aren’t twins but act like it, and provide some of the funniest, most chaotic moments. If you know, you know.
Greyson’s connection to Emma’s best friend Audrey also sets up a future Age-Gap/Virgin romance that I’m already counting down for. The breadcrumbing was chef’s kiss.
My only real critique? The length. A 600-page hockey romcom is… a journey. There are several side stories woven throughout, and while many were enjoyable, the pacing could’ve been tighter without losing impact. It didn’t ruin the book for me, but it did make the read feel heavier than a romcom typically needs to be.
The spice was fun (sunflowers… that’s all I’m saying 🌻😳), the emotional beats landed, and the team dynamic was honestly addictive.
Overall:
A fun, spicy, character-packed hockey romance with great banter and a slightly overstuffed page count. I’d absolutely read more from this author - especially Audrey’s story.
Thank you to this author for the opportunity to ARC this story.
This is book 2 in the series but I did not feel like I'd missed anything in book one. I love a good single dad/nanny/forced proximity story so I was surprised that this one didn't immediately grab me.
I will say that I enjoyed Greyson, especially when he stood up to Emma's mom and he had an underlining Alpha energy to him, but something about the FMC didn't connect with me- not 100% sure what.
I had not realized that the book was 600+ pages before starting so there were moments where I assumed I was 50% of the way in based on the plot progression, only to realize I was 20-30% in.
I found Christmas with his family very.... odd. there were numerous sexual jokes made by his father towards her/them as a couple and sex life was being openly discussed. Yes the dad caught them in the middle of an ice cream licking fight, but for the first time meeting Emma it felt icky. I don't need the dad of the guy I'm "not even dating" talking about my breasts or implying that "I probably have done more than just kiss" his son
I am aware that he is a pro athlete and she comes from money but the fact that she bought him $60,000 watch after 6 weeks of being his daughters nanny - and the dad joking that he was going to divorce his wife so he could have the watch didn't vibe with me.
The nickname bunny also didn't do it for me, which yes is a personal preference.
I think many readers will enjoy this story still but it just wasn't for me!

If I could give this book infinity stars I would, just like book one it exceeded all my expectations and I cannot wait for more from this series.
In book 2 we follow excentric Emma who has found herself in need of somewhere to live, after cutting out her friends she doesn't want to burden them with her problems, she is offered a place to stay as well as a job in the least likely of places, with Griffins star Right Winger Greyson Ford, who is in need of a nanny. But when Emma does everything she can to make him smile, but once it happens he cant help but smile around her.
This has flawlessly carried on from the events in book one, which I might add is one of my favourite 2025 reads, this has bought the return of all our favourites from book one as well as a few new faces I hope to see more of in future books,
I'm sat here trying to out into words how much I loved this book! Yes its on the long side but there isn't anything that should be in it! Chloe has bought so much care and emotion to all her characters especially in showing how it is okay to be vulnerable and to have a cry, cuz damn the tears flowed a few times throughout and nearly took me out.
I would HIGHLY recommend this book as well as book 1, any and every day of the week, just come prepared with tissues as you are in for a journey and a half! For fans of Hockey Romances, Single Dad, Temporary Nanny, Grumpy X Sunshine, Found Family, and some delicious spicy goodness.
I LOVED this! I laughed so hard. Chloe has the same humor style as me so I genuinely was laughing so much. But I also cried during so many moments. I was so sad to see the rest of the series doesn’t come out till next year. I would love to stay in this universe with these characters. The friend group/found family was a 10/10. Their love and bond throughout was a fantastic addition. The love Emma has for Gracie was my favorite thing in this whole book. Emma loved Gracie with every fiber of her being without being Gracie’s biological mother. She was so supportive of having a relationship with Stephanie (bio mom) friend Nadia & parents so Gracie just had more people in her corner. Emma truly wore her heart on her sleeve and it was absolutely heartbreaking to see her get hurt by Tommy, Her mother & even Greyson during their fight. I loved Greyson until their fight but I understand emotions were high so I was quick to forgive him once he groveled 😂 Greyson was one of my favorites in Eternally Yours! I knew there had to be more to him than meets the eye. I cannot wait for Make Us Yours & Always Been Yours in 2026! Thank you so much for allowing me to be an ARC reader for Unexpectedly Yours! 🩷

This book captured my interest from the very first page. The FMC, Emma, is a strong, independent woman who knows what she wants, well, at least that's what she portrays. Underneath the steel exterior, she is hiding childhood trauma that has made her look for approval not only from her mother, but from the men in her life.
She has lost herself in a relationship until she realizes that this relationship isn't for her. With nowhere to go, Greyson, someone who doesn't really like Emma, offers her a place to live under the condition that she becomes the nanny to his daughter. Greyson is a huge hockey player who has been enjoying his bachelor life until an unexpected daughter came along. He's trying to figure out this new way of life, but Emma is making it easier.
What I love about this story is that it seems so believable. Every character can actually be someone you know. What each character goes through mirrors what happens in reality. All of the ups and downs and unexpected happenings that we experience in real life are portrayed so well in the story.
The building relationship between Greyson and Emma is very organic, and the handling of trauma that Emma experiences hits you to the core. I absolutely love this story and would recommend it.
ARC READ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Unexpectedly Yours by Chloe Rouxel
This book had me from the very first chapters — hooked, invested, and fully in my feelings. 🫶 If I’m being a little nit-picky, it did run a bit long for me, but the storyline? Absolutely beautiful.
Greyson. Our 6’+ tall, tattooed, sculpted MMC. A walking distraction. I adored the way he owned his feelings — and when he royally messed up and shattered my heart? He fought for it. HARD. Exactly what we want from a hotshot hockey player who knows what (and who) he wants. 🏒🔥
Emma. My sweet, selfless queen. The kind of FMC you wish you could steal for your real-life bestie. Her growth, her heart, and that insight near the end? Stunning. I loved her character through and through. 👑💚
The Spice. Totally solid. I’m not a reader who picks books based on spice level, but for the girlies who do — Wolf & Bunny’s chemistry does NOT disappoint. 🐺🐰✨
Overall, I’m giving this one a strong 4 stars, because the ending pulled me right back in and wrapped the whole journey up so beautifully.
If you love hockey romance, MMCs who grovel properly, and heroines you want to protect at all costs — add this to your TBR ASAP. 📚💫
this series omg guys this series really is everything just absolutely everything. Utterly obsessed and completely in love , that’s exactly what I have become with this world Chloe Rouxel has so flawlessly and brilliantly created. Each character and couple owns a piece of my heart they genuinely do . But something about these two , about Emma and Greyson , just touched my heart and resonated with me on a whole other level . Sure the instant attraction and the chemistry between them was insane . But more then that I think what made Greyson that much more relatable for me was the fact that he was a single parent , not to mention what an absolutely devoted and protective father he was . And when it comes to the people who are most important to him , when it comes to the woman who becomes his everything phew my heart was swooning. He’s the perfect package , everything you could ever hope for or need in a man . Watching him and Emma fall in love , watching them overcome the obstacles in their way . What a emotional rollercoaster that will have you smiling, laughing, crying and cheering so whole way through
Thank you to Chloe for an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review! I did not read the first book in the series before diving in, but I was still able to follow along with the friendships/relationships that were introduced previously.
I'll admit, I wasn't sold when I started the first few chapters with Emma's choices on how to handle her ex because her actions appeared almost too crazy, but I was soon hooked by her softer side and the way she was around Gracie from the start. She's a vulnerable woman trying to put on a strong front and it was nice to see Greyson help her rediscover her true self without judgment. Where I got stuck was the length of the book and how there were chapters that easily could've been combined or even cut. I also hate that it feels like Greyson put in all the work in repairing their relationship, without Emma doing the same.
Extra points back however for the scene at the adventure park, I was almost to the point of cry laughing throughout the entire slide bit and the nod to Princess Bride. I am rooting for Chloe to continue growing with her writing and to see what she comes up with next in the Sticks and Stilettos series!
My first book by this author and really excited to say I enjoyed this book but not for the reasons I usually love a hockey romance. The book centers around Emma and Greyson. He has a surprise baby daughter and struggling to find adequate help. Enter Emma who is friends with his sister and his teammates’ wives. She agrees to nanny for him and their story takes off. What I really loved is how the story delves deep into the relationship aspect of the story. It takes us down to the ups and downs of being in a relationship and how challenging it can be to love someone and stay committed to them. There is a realistic approach to their story. While they are falling for each other they still have to grapple with their own insecurities or lack of knowing what it’s like to be in a true loving relationship. I found it refreshing to focus on the nuance of relationships and not the getting to the “fallen in love” stage. And also this friend group is awesome! Their dynamic is perfection and I can’t wait for book #3!
Unexpectedly Yours took me on a roller coaster ride I wasn’t ready to get off. I laughed, I cried, and I felt every emotion right alongside the characters. From start to finish, the story flowed effortlessly, pulling me in with its heartfelt moments, sharp humor, and the kind of chemistry that keeps you flipping pages long after you should’ve gone to bed.
As a girl from Mississippi who absolutely loves hockey, I appreciated every bit of the hockey world woven into this book—it felt authentic, fun, and added so much personality to the story. The characters were beautifully written and incredibly easy to fall in love with. Their journeys felt real, messy, emotional, and completely worth it.
The ending gave me the closure I needed (well… mostly), and now I’m genuinely counting down the days until I can read more from this world. Unexpectedly Yours is a must-read if you’re looking for a heartfelt, emotional, beautifully crafted story that stays with you even after you turn the last page.
ARC Review of ‘Unexpectedly Yours’ by Chloe Rouxel.
Awww now this is a great hockey romance book! Everything is in here, from unexpected (annoyed) friends to lovers, humor, witty banter between all the characters, sad moments and of course 🌶️🥳 We follow Grayson, single dad of baby Gracie, and Emma, who joins Grayson to take care of Gracie after she catches her bf in the act. Grayson is a super loving FMC who works hard and loves fiercely! Emma is a handful! Her mind is like Grayson said, like an energizer bunny, a whirlwind of energy, but she really has a big heart! Their 🌶️ is deliciously written and so elaborate hihi. I loved it! There are tons of hilarious scenes, I laughed so hard during a certain diner ‘analogy’ and bunny incident🤣🫣 But there were sad scenes too. I actually shed a tear about Maddison😩. Their friend group is so amazing! And again, hilarious scenes between them🥰
This book should really be on your TBR if you are in to heartfelt romantic comedy. 5/5⭐️
This is the second book in the sticks and stilettos series. It’s a hockey romance where single dad Greyson Ford falls for his nanny Emma Mackenzie. Emma is a ray of sunshine with a lot of loveable quirks and Greyson starts off as the typical grump but that changes with Emma there to brighten him. The story sees Emma down on her luck and in the perfect position to help Grey and be his nanny. This was an enjoyable easy romance to read with ALOT of laughs, great friendships and found family. It had a good level of open door spice and they even have nicknames! Emma has a bag load of insecurities which is prevalent throughout and also the source of the main section on drama in the plot. The book was a well written warming romance but did feel the hockey occupation was more of a background aspect rather than being at the centre and there wasn’t any big plot twists but some grovelling. Overall a delightful read and I can’t wait for the next instalment.
I had mixed feelings about this story from start to finish. I was expecting a quick, easy sports romcom, but what I got was a (sometimes) cheesy, emotional roller coaster of a love story with relatable characters and emotional peaks throughout. The writing seemed somewhat predictable at times and instead of letting something just happen the author tells you its going to happen before it happen. Another issue I had, was there was no clear problem and solution. It was a book of lots of little events that happened and lots of mini solutions, but it was like the author was afraid of something bad truly happening to the characters, with that being said-- I absolutely did cry at what I am calling the "climax" which is why it got 3 stars instead of just 2. Do I recommend this book? Maybe-- it was way too long, but I did enjoy the characters, which is why I will probably read the next 2 coming out.
I loved how misunderstood Emme really was and how Greyson totally misread het from the very start of their friendship/relationship. It made him falling in love with her so much more meaningful.
the one thing I didnt love about Greyson was how he used his previous crush on Cecelia against Emma when he was angry. I hurt for her in that moment. I know how real it is for us to act and say the worst in anger and Grey really knew how to hit hard with his words. I broke with Emma when he used them on her.
One of my absolute favorite side stories was the bond Emma and Gracie had. I loved how much she loved her. she was everything Gracie needed and that Grey couldn't give her. I also loved how this relationship led to Emma getting the parental support she always deserved, from both her father and Grey's parents.
I'm so excited for the next story in this series. I'm a sucker for MFM stories!!
Tropes 🏒Grumpy x Sunshine 💗Single Dad 🏒Temporary Nanny 💗Found Family 🏒Hockey Player 💗Dislike to Love (Note quite Enemies to Lovers)
If you're after a slow burn, single dad, hockey romance then this one is highly recommended to you! Emma and Graysons characters are so well written and it really makes you never wanna put the book down! There is so much character growth with each of them and within their relationship which is always lovely to read! This book is just what I needed at the moment, it's soft and cosy, full of banter, and has tonnes of those 'smile to yourself like a muppet' scenes. There was a fair and equal amount of chaoticness and soppy and sweet, as well as realistic characters and banter, just what you need in a comfort romance read!
I’m so happy for the opportunity to read an ARC for this author! I have mixed feelings about this book. I think the story line and premise are great. I’m a sucker for a nanny romance. And hockey on top of that?! Yes please. I think the FMC started off strong and independent. The MMC didn’t have a ton of development. I think you learn much more about the FMC than MMC in their backgrounds and needs. My others gripes were the length of this book and the nicknames. I think it was too long for the conflict to lot be strong enough. It could have been shorter. And the nicknames for every single character got to be too much.
Overall it was a 2.75 ⭐️ for me. It was an easy read and found myself wanting to continue.
Unexpectedly Yours absolutely delivered for me—honestly, I liked it so much more than the first book. Chloe leans into that enemies-to-lovers(ish) energy in the best way, and the forced proximity had me kicking my feet. There were several moments that had me tearing up, balanced perfectly with so many sweet, happy moments that kept my heart full.
It’s definitely a slooooow burn, but once the spark finally caught? It blazed. Their hookup scenes were frequent and passionate—so good, so satisfying, and so worth the wait.
And that ending… I’m a total sucker for happy endings, and Chloe delivered one a million times over. This was such a fun, emotional, and rewarding read. I’m already excited to see what she writes next.

This is book 2 in the Sticks and Stilettos series! While I have not read book 1, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and feel it could be a standalone! This is my first hockey romance, and this author truly captivated me with it! Don't let the little over 600 page count scare you, as you'll fly though it!
