The author will be donating all his proceeds from the book to four baseball-related foundations: ALS, Turn Two, Jackie Robinson and the Hall of Fame.
Amazing Aaron to zero zippers : an introduction to baseball history. I like the way that this book is organized. I like the creative titles of the sections. The photographs are black & white, but are plentiful. The text was absorbing and easy to follow.
What I thought – This was a well-written resource for anyone interested in baseball or history in general. It is organized and flows well which is quite a feat considering the amount of information packed into the book. The text is easy to follow and is referenced well. The reader can tell there was a lot of careful research done for the book. I liked how Matt not only included baseball stats but also glimpses into the lives and personalities of the players. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone will be writing a book about Matt in a few years! *NOTE* I got a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
I have to give this book five stars, and here is why. It was written back in 2014 by a 15 year-old blogger (there were not nearly as many bloggers back then- as there are now!). Matt was a sports "geek"- no, a "Baseball geek", the kind that can spout off about any kind of statistics, or tale about America's game (and he could do so accurately!). The premise of this book is to tell a story about baseball- related to each letter of the alphabet. That would certainly keep the book limited in size (under 100 pages), but how can he tell the history of the game that way? Somehow he does. I really have to stretch to think of important events , moments, or records that the kid left out. I had just finished reading a books about the greatest broadcast sports moments when my sister handed me this book. I already had three books on baseball, spinning in my reading queue. I really was not looking for this book. I am glad that she found it for me. It is fun and refreshing.
Actually 4 1/2 stars - very good book with short chapters. Excellent for new baseball fans who want to learn a little bit more about the history of the game.
