Injured, lost, and suffering from amnesia, Faeryn stumbles through an unfamiliar world. Her rescuer, as alluring and dangerous as the flames he wields, takes responsibility for her safe acclimation to his society of strange creatures. Haunted by her unknown past and that of her secretive savior, Faeryn must confront the very real monsters lurking in the recesses of her lost memory to discover the truth.
For years, Graysen has been frozen in time, trapped in the darkness that shadows his past. When he finds Faeryn—the antidote to his pain—he dedicates himself to her survival at any cost. Protecting her from the sordid forces of his magical world proves deadly, as the blaze of his obsession threatens to consume them both.
Becca Ray Blackwell is a Monster Romance author based in the Appalachian Mountains. Fascinated by creatures, biology, and folklore, she loves exploring different worlds through stories of imperfect couples healing, growing, and navigating unique situations as a team. As somebody constantly avoiding boredom, Becca’s books aim to incorporate elements of humor, enchantment, suspense, horror, and shameless amounts of spice. Both a scientist and a self-identified witchy bitch, Becca is fascinated by the interplay of explainable phenomena and unexplainable magic. This is reflected in the elements of fantasy and science fiction found in every novel.
This is a fantastic debut. It’s a modern fantasy with a mystery about our main characters past woven in. I absolutely had to know what had happened to Faeryn in her that had caused her memory loss. An excellent plot, good world building and some well placed spicey scenes kept me turning page after page. Can’t wait for book two.
“Be a good little pet and lay back. Let me take care of you.” - Greysen
“It will become your normal. Are you afraid to take it?” - Greysen
“My demon of fire looks like an angel of death.“ - Faeryn
“ I would burn the world down with everything I loved, in it if it meant she would survive to stand in the ashes with me.” - Greysen
I AM GAGGED 😍 🥵 and loving it honestly 😌
This was my first book that I didn’t even bother to read the blurb on. And this is the first book I will ever recommend to not bother reading the blurb on.
In Blackwell’s debut novel Fnding Her book one of the Lore of Fields series, she leads you down a thriller, mystery, sci-fi jampacked with spice, romance, and both cozy and cold ethereal worlds. All genres that don’t seem like they come together, but this book is a master class on how to not just efficiently blend this unlikely combination, but to do it with utter and irrefutable expertise.
As you know, I love to talk about what each book gives. This novel is giving in spades. We get monster romance between a Pyron and a human (?). A lovely cozy getaway to an ethereal island whose imagery is laid out so beautifully you can close your eyes and relish in all 5 senses being engaged as if you were physically present. It gives us heated romance along with some of the darker aspects that aren’t so cozy and fuzzy feeling in the best ways possible. We also get a mystery that not only draws the reader in but edges us throughout the entire book in a way that keeps you on all 10 toes desperately searching for any possible clues to try to unravel it. But please just know all of those efforts will be for naught, as this author will grip you by the throat with her storyline until she’s ready permit you to breathe it in.
This story also gives us consistently intricate and vivid world building as you traverse through various lands, an extremely original plot line and unique magic system & lore, polished off with thriller aspects that will leave you hanging in suspense and holding your breath.
I would be remiss to fail to mention this novel is filled with quotes that will be burned into your brain and live rent-free for years to come. Said quotes ranging from Insta responses of ‘yes daddy’, ‘how unbelievably romántico’, ‘how fucking poetic’ to you stomping your little feeties and clapping your hands while you absolutely gag. This novel is Rife with themes of autonomy, self advocacy, consent in all things, self discovery, sexual exploration (leave all notions of shame at the door baby girl), and radical self acceptance.
You’ll come for the dark romantasy and fire daddy, but be enraptured by the thrill and mystery. Finding Her is the genre bending thrill you didn’t even know you needed. Five stars, no notes.
My second ARC and I feel like I’m being spoiled with these amazing unique stories. Finding Her is an addictive amalgamation of genres you wouldn’t necessarily think should work together, but boy do they. Cozy romance coupled with suspenseful mystery. Monster romance with sprinkles of dystopian sci-fi. Dominant spice with a green flag cinnamon roll MMC? Yes to all of the above!
🔥 standalone, HEA 🔥 🌶️🌶️ 🔥 who did this 🔥 amnesia, hurt/comfort 🔥 cozy, small town vibes 🔥 cinnamon roll, morally gray MMC 🔥 sweet but fierce FMC
This story took me by surprise. The slowly built trust between Grayson and Faeryn was laced with so much tension and banter that I was smiling so big my face hurt. I found myself giggling with excitement every time they took a step forward in their relationship, and thinking about their connection when I wasn’t able to read, excited about how it would progress. They are both extremely likable characters and you can’t help but feel invested in their love story.
But a sweet romance is not the only element of this story. The mystery surrounding the characters and their histories was suspenseful and addictive. I was desperate to know what all the secrets were, what the connections were, and found myself guessing and then having to keep reading to see if I was right (I wasn’t lol). I stayed up until 2:30 just to finish this and it was worth it.
The world was rich and immersive, the side characters well developed and complex. I felt like I was there, and was stressed when they were, etc. I will be ordering a hard copy of this book to reread as it feels like the kind of story you’d glean something new from with every reread. 5 full ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!
*Walks out to the forest and whispers…Am I dreaming or am I awake?* Sorry, new readers, only ARC besties will get this one. Yes, we have an inside joke with the Author. Don’t be jealous, just read the book and you won’t regret it.
I dove into this book the same night I received the ARC, and it did not disappoint. Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Monster Loving Stars! Heat: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Hot & Knotty Peppers
Becca Ray Blackwell delivered, with this powerful debut novel. There was an element of fantasy I rarely see delivered well, and that is reality. What? That doesn’t make sense. Oh, but it does, just read it and thank her later. I was lured into this story immediately, and it kept me guessing until the end. If you love rich story lines with monsters who are sweet, scary, and oh so hot, you will love this book.
I will most definitely be coming back for the second book.
Congrats Becca Ray you burned the house down with this one!
This was such a great read with a plot that really pulled me in and kept me intrigued from start to finish.
Our FMC, Faeryn, is suffering from amnesia after being found alone in a dangerous woods by the MMC, Grayson, who brings her to his home in a strange world with unique inhabitants. Greyson is fiercely protective of Faeryn as she begins to navigate this new world and piece together the mystery that is her past.
I enjoy the unique world that the author created for this story. There are mythical creatures and touches of magic mixed into a somewhat modern setting. I would love to learn more about this world and its inhabitants in future books!
I truly enjoyed going on this journey with Faeryn, Grayson and their friends. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a mix of sci-fi and fantasy, a bit of mystery, and (in my opinion) a perfect amount of spice. 💚
(I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.)
Finding her is Becca Ray Blackwell’s debut monster romance novel and it checked off all my boxes. Cozy romance. Check. Beautiful and creative world building. Check. Element of mystery. Check. Found family. Check. ‘lil spicy spice. Double check.
There were so many unique concepts in this story I’m not sure where to start.
Wait yes I do: for starters, I have never read a story that felt like a sci-fi, contemporary AND historical romance all at once in a story that doesn’t involve timehopping. Becca is able to harmoniously and seamlessly blend various time period elements together to where it just makes sense. Cue Alien-horse-drawn underwater carriages. Creativity 10/10
The story follows a dual POV from Faeryn and Graysen:
Faeryn , the FMC, cannot remember anything prior to her being rescued from a deadly forest by our MMC Graysen. The element of mystery makes it to where I’m right there with Faeryn trying to navigate not just a new world BUT re-learn herself as well. Girlypop was definitely a lot calmer then I would have been if I woke up factory reseted. I appreciated her can-do attitude and positive outlook throughout the book.
Faeryn: *trying not to freak out over having no recollection of anything. Also Faeryn - an actual quote: “New things to experience and learn are exciting. There are seven species on this planet, I bet some of the d!cks are wild. Maybe I’ll collect them all.”
Hahahaha! Girl yes.
Let’s talk about Grayson: Having a self aware fire daddy MMC who openly admits his prior struggles with depression was not on my bingo card for 2025 but I’m sure glad it was. I have a soft spot for a man who can admit to his own struggles as well as call out his own red flags and actively work on them.
You can deduce Grayson was hiding a couple of somethings throughout the book and the element of mystery written just kept you turning pages because you just HAD to find out why this man was so tormented about the things he was trying to hide. The entire book I was trying to figure out who the real villain was because the mystery was mystery-ing!
Add in a colorful band of friends and secondary characters helping both Graysen do sneaky things AND helping Faeryn acclimate to this world and you’ve got what I call cozy chaos. It reminds me of the holidays and a house full of friends and family you actually want to be around.
Speaking of colorful: the descriptions of colors in this world give me such a nostalgic sense of Spring pastel meets Lisa Frank I just HAD to bust out my art supplies to try to recreate a scene or two from this world.
Highly recommend. The world the author, Becca, built lives rent free in my mind. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Release Date: October 3, 2025
A monster romantasy with a dash of mystery? Don’t mind if I do. Monster romance isn’t usually in my rotation, but the summary hooked me. Then I opened the ARC application. Dearest review reader, when an author makes the application itself so entertaining that you’re hoping for an ARC based on that alone, you know you’re in for a good time. The vibes were immaculate before the book even hit my inbox, so when the approval email arrived, I was so freakin’ excited to dive in. Yes, for a monster romance.
I don’t read many amnesia-trope stories, but I feel like this one is done well. Our FMC, Faeryn, wakes with no memory of who she is. She knows she’s human, she’s from Earth, and she’s somehow in a place called Trebianna. She soon meets our MMC, Graysen, who rescues her from a harrowing forest. She decides to trust him even though nothing makes sense yet. Faeryn’s curiosity of the world keeps pushing outward, and Graysen makes it very clear he will do anything to protect her, which often means she cannot leave his home without an escort. That push-pull sets up great tension and witty banter, and both leads are easy to like.
Told in dual POV, the story lets us sit with both Faeryn and Graysen. He’s clearly sitting on a pile of secrets that don’t unravel until later. It can be frustrating, but it does fuel the mystery in a satisfying way. His secret-keeping did make me want to wring his neck more than once. I don’t care if he is a hot fire daddy. 😤
There aren’t tons of spice scenes, but the ones we get deliver in spades. 🥵 This is a perfect buddy-read book, because you will absolutely be texting someone and kicking your feet when they reach that part. You’ll know it when you get there.
Blackwell knocks it out of the park for her debut novel. It’s fun, it’s satisfying, and it hits the spicy romantasy sweet spot. Highly recommend if that’s your jam.
Thank you to Becca Ray Blackwell for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Despite this book featuring one of many tropes that I despise, I thought that the story was interesting enough to risk it. Unfortunately, this did not turn out to be one of those elusive exceptions to my dislike of the amnesia trope.
If I'm being honest, it did work for me in the beginning, but it ended up becoming tedious because there were no steps taken to figure out the why/how it happened. It felt like we were at a standstill, where nothing interesting was happening plotwise. The focus on the couple getting to know each other can only tide me over for so long. This is coming from someone who adores and respects romance novels. I wanted some plot in the middle of the MMC, being all secretive and broody whenever presented with a simple question he didn't want to answer or explain why he didn't want to answer.
I saw another reviewer comment on how the MMC always asks for consent and how you would either be completely for it or it would get old. I'm personally of the camp that consent matters. Regardless of whether you've done/asked something 1000 times, asking again is important because consent can always be revoked at any time for any reason. I didn't get enough into the book for it to become that apparent, but the little I did see, I quite enjoyed.
The worldbuilding was fascinating, and I quite liked what I did read about before I got bored. It's definitely something fresh that I usually don't see in the books I pick up. So, for that, I applaud the author. It's unfortunate that this book didn't work for me.
P.S. The MMC in this novel is 32 years old. So I'm very proud of myself for picking up a book where the MMC is realistic age 😂
Words cannot express how much I LOVE THIS WORLD! Someone please transport me off Earth or put me in a coma! I don't care how I just need to get there!
Graysen oh my sweet, sexy, monster of a man. You are everything this book girly could ever want! A voice like Sleep Token, arms of black ink, ready to dominate and punish me. Who needs a shadow daddy when you can have a fire daddy!
We can't forget about Faeryn a, beautiful, curvy, confident, & resilient FMC. Love the strong, mid-size representation!
Reading this book took me through so many emotions, from intrigue over the beautifully described world-building & lore to tearing up, then giggling and blushing right alongside Faeryn when we think of Graysen. I even got goosebumps!
This book kept me on the edge of my seat all the way to the end!
It really has been too long since I've enjoyed a book this much and I can say I will be reading Becca Ray's books from here on out. I will be happy to push other books to the bottom of my TBR (sorry to half the books I already own) for her next novel!
Faeryn wakes up in a mysterious forest with no memory of who she is or how she got there. She’s soon discovered by Grayson, a stranger whose quiet charm hides a possessive streak. As Faeryn struggles to piece together her past and navigate the strange new world she’s been thrust into, she finds herself both wary of and drawn to him.
This story is a romantasy with cozy vibes and a touch of mystery. I really enjoyed watching the plot unfold—it kept my attention from start to finish. Faeryn’s resilience in the face of uncertainty made her an easy character to root for, and I appreciated how both she and Grayson felt wonderfully imperfect. Grayson’s love and protectiveness came through so strongly, making their dynamic compelling to read.
If you like monster romances, with hints of mystery with cozy fantasy and sci fi elements, this book is for you.
ARC Review: This book took me a few chapters to get into, but once it sunk its claws in me, I read the rest in one sitting. Everything is so beautifully described so you’re experiencing this “new” world alongside Faeryn. I love when books provide a dual POV and getting Greyson’s perspective enhances the story. I enjoyed the dystopian society mix with fae theme and can’t wait for the next book. I see Faeryn being very similar to Auren (from the Gilded Prisoner series). This is a journey of her finding herself and using her power to change things for the better further into the series. Highly recommend!
“You know what they say about waking up next to a Quadmos” 😂
This book had me from the very first page and kept me guessing til the very end. I didn’t want to put it down 👏🏻 It felt original, vibrant, and wonderfully detailed!
Any book that makes you want to immediately read it again after finishing it is a winner! I wanted to see every clue I missed, and read every moment I loved all over again.
Our FMC 🌸 Fearyn 🌸 has amnesia and can’t help her pull towards our fire daddy 🔥 Graysen 🔥 who wants nothing more than to protect her.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I’d give it more honestly 😮💨 🌶️🌶️🌶️ - She’s a Brat and he’s a Dom 🫠
This was SO good! A little mystery, a little spice…. It was different from most fantasy romance books, and I loved that! Such an interesting story! I look forward to the next one!
Also, yeahhhh… I’m going to need some more from this world- I need Mykie’s love story- a little second chance romance ehhh????? Wink wink!
Also, I need some more Dia info- like…. That lady is a BAMF.
And also!!!!! I need Theo’s story as well! What’s hottie Mcfourarms doing? I need to know.
The world Becca Ray Blackwell created in her debut novel is phenomenal. Her modern fantasy realm is brought to life by diverse and unique characters. It’s hard not to completely fall into the world she created. It cleverly spins a mystery and romance together set in an epic fantasy to create an intricate story that will keep you wondering what happened to Faeryn and what is Grayson hiding. This was my first ARC book and I am so honored I got to read it and fall into the beautiful world that Faeryn and Greyson live in. I can’t wait to read more in this world.
I had the pleasure of alpha reading Finding Her for Becca Ray Blackwell in the spring of this year. While I’m no stranger to alpha or beta reading for authors, monster fantasy romance was an entirely new genre for me, and I had no idea what to expect going in, but I was pleasantly surprised. As a rule, I don’t post public reviews for books I alpha read because so much can change before publication. Having the opportunity to re-read the finished story and see how much it’s grown was such a joy. The final version builds beautifully on what was already a strong story, and it’s clear Blackwell put an incredible amount of time and care into shaping her debut, which absolutely paid off.
Finding Her opens with our FMC Faeryn waking up injured, disoriented, and with no memory of who she is or how she ended up in the world of Trebianna. For her, Trebianna is otherworldly, filled with mystery, the unexplainable, and creatures unlike anything she has ever known. She is saved and taken in by our MMC Graysen, a man who is as magnetic as he is guarded, and from there the story unfolds through a blend of slow-burn tension, intimacy, and the kind of immersive worldbuilding that always pulls me in.
Faeryn and Graysen’s relationship is the backbone of this story, and they balance each other in a way that feels natural to their characters. She’s curious and impulsive, while he’s guarded and disciplined, and watching those differences start to blur was one of my favorite parts of the book. Graysen’s guilt and restraint make him a compelling character, while Faeryn’s determination to understand the world she’s been thrown into complements his intensity. He gives her stability, and she gives him purpose, and every exchange between them feels like a test of trust.
One of Blackwell’s biggest strengths as a writer is her ability to create worlds that feel alive. Trebianna is more than just a backdrop. It has its own seasons, creatures, and lore that weave naturally into the story. You can feel the depth of it in the way every detail connects to something larger without ever disrupting the flow. It’s the kind of world that begs for companion stories, and thankfully, this is only the first book in the Lore of the Fields series.
The supporting cast is small, but they add a lot to this story. Mykie is Graysen’s best friend, and her loyalty and honesty make her instantly likable. Her history with him runs deep, and it’s clear they share a past shaped by loss and mistakes neither of them fully escape. Over time, she also becomes a friend to Faeryn, someone who offers perspective and support when she needs it most. The rest of the cast plays smaller roles, but they help bring clarity to both Faeryn and Graysen while adding a sense of connection throughout the story.
Finding Her is a strong writing debut for Blackwell and a great start to the Lore of the Fields series. She delivers a story that feels both intimate and expansive, filled with characters you want to know more about and a world that begs to be explored further. It’s thoughtful, atmospheric, and immersive in a way that lingers. I cannot wait to see where this series goes.
*ARC Review* Amazing. Brilliant. Delightful. I could keep naming adjectives but the list would be too long! Becca weaves fantasy, mystery, romance, and a touch of science fiction into a beautiful story of hope, healing, and finding yourself and your people.
Rating: If I could give this one more than 5 stars, I would! This debut has been become my top read of the year. I loved everything about it and will be ordering a copy so I can read it again & again. The spicy scenes were included in the plot naturally, and while there wasn’t a ton of scenes, what I did read was top-notch spice. Forked tongue, oh yeah!
Plot: The story follows Faeryn who suffers from amnesia and finds herself in a strange, sometimes familiar world under the care of her savior, Graysen, who has lived in pain and depression for years until he finds Faeryn alongside a road, lost and alone. With each new discovery she makes, I learned it too and was easily taken on her journey. The descriptions provoke your imagination in the best ways. The plot contains so much mystery, even as I learned something new, I still had questions that needed answers keeping me fully engaged and immersed. And when the answers came, I was often pleasantly surprised. In fact, I found out so much that I didn't suspect that I'm tempted to read it again now knowing what I've learned!
Characters: All the characters were well developed and I honestly loved all of them. Faeryn who is endearing, optimistic, and fun. Graysen who is protective and chivalrous, sometimes grumpy, and always has the best of intentions. When I was reading from their point of view, even the writing style matched their thought patterns and I was easily wrapped up in each character. Even the side characters had tons of personality like Mykie the fierce best friend with rough edges.
World: A new world very unlike our own physically in a different galaxy with its own lore. I don't want to say too much here since learning the new world along with Faeryn is such a great part of the story. I found myself constantly wondering along with her how the world could be so different and yet have so many similarities to Earth. I noticed little details added that brought the world to life organically. By the end I had so many theories built in my head only to be surprised at how far off I was on some.
Pacing: Very immersive. Easy to read, steady pace. You become so engrossed in each character. Very hard to put down, especially as it builds with the biggest conflict in the later part of the book.
Tropes: • fantasy romance • monster romance • protective MMC • touch her and die • laugh out loud funny • dom/brat • amnesia • hidden past • fated mates
A must-read for fans of fantasy romance who don't mind their MMC having some monster anatomy. The writing includes great imagery, vivid descriptions, unique intricate characters with dual points-of-view, and is easy to read while the mystery and romance keep you turning pages.
I think I’m truly entering my “monster” romance era bc it’s now two books in a row ft a monster MMC and I have to say IM LOVING IT.
This book was SO freakin addicting and not only because of said monster MMC but because it’s soooo well written. There is so much to unpack here omfg so let’s dive in- the plot is fast paced and has a mystery type subplot that sucks you in and keeps you on your toes the entire read.
The fmc is so layered and we follow along on her journey not only to remember her backstory but to find herself. She is strong and flawed but she is a perf example of feminine strength and perseverance. Our MMC is equally as strong but he’s patient and truly embodies what it means to YEARN.
This read is not only beautifully written but also carries a lot of meaning within its pages. Focusing on betrayal and connection in the face of pain, trauma, hurt, and ultimately a fierce independence that can still exist even within love and partnership.
I freakin LOVEEEEEED this read and I cannot wait for another book in this series/world !!
Thank you to author @Becca Rae Blackwell for an eARC copy of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was a really intriguing debut!! Our FMC, Faeryn, wakes up naked in a forest filled with monsters with no memories whatsoever. This poor woman doesn't even remember her own name or where she came from. She is found by our MMC, Graysen, and is taken back to his home, where he is devoted entirely to trying to keep her safe.
Without giving too much away, this book had me wanting answers for the longest time!!! I was dying to figure out what Graysen was hiding from Faeryn, and why he was so stern about trying to have her watched at all times. It really had me wondering if he had entirely noble intentions for awhile. I was happy that by the end of the 462 pages, all questions were answered, and there were very few loose ends that hopefully will be addressed in a subsequent book. (I'd really like Mykie and Raegen's book, as they were excellent, and kind of mysterious side characters.)
Fantasy- Sci-Fi Romance Mystery Amnesia Caretaking Dragons & magic Forced proximity MCs in their 30s Cinnamon roll with morally grey tendencies MMC Found family Touch her and die Burn the world for her Medium slow burn HEA
Finding Her is Becca Ray Blackwell’s debut romance, blending elements of monster lore, fantasy, and sci-fi to create a cozy love story layered with high-stakes mystery and thriller undertones. The dynamic between Faeryn, who suffers from severe amnesia, and Graysen, who is clearly hiding something, builds a compelling tension that keeps you turning pages wondering what really happened to Faeryn and whether Graysen is truly the good guy he seems to be, or something else entirely. The story begins at a slower pace, mirroring Faeryn’s disoriented state, allowing readers to gradually immerse themselves in a strange and beautiful world. With creatively imagined seasons, modern yet otherworldly communities, and vivid, engaging characters, the worldbuilding draws you in and makes you feel like you’re discovering everything alongside Faeryn.
Our lovely couple shares a classic meet-cute when Graysen finds Faeryn lost and disoriented in a dangerous forest, rescuing her from the monsters that lurk there. After spending a night under his care, Faeryn realizes she has no memory of who she is; she’s a blank slate in a strange and unfamiliar world. This vulnerability leads her to lean on Graysen for support, and slowly, trust begins to build between them as she heals and starts to learn more about her surroundings. However, despite Graysen’s kind actions and good intentions, he raises some suspicious red flags. He consistently dodges certain questions and seems to know more about Faeryn’s past than he’s willing to admit. Faeryn notices the evasiveness and determined not to become completely dependent on him, sets out to understand the world on her own. I love Faeryn as a character. She’s strong but flawed, with an endless well of curiosity, hope, and perseverance. Her budding relationship with Graysen feels real and relatable as they navigate the tension between growing attraction and her deep need to uncover her identity.
I absolutely love the monster elements woven into this romance, especially Graysen, a Pyron, or as I like to call him, a certified fire daddy. He runs hot in every sense of the word and has a smolder that could burn through stone. Along with that, he has ancient dragon blood in his veins, so not only is he able to communicate with dragons, he can ride them too! Which is a super fun ability to throw into this. His more feral side brings some very fun appendages into play: sharp claws, a thick forked tongue, and a deliciously ridged peen. But it’s not just his monster physique that makes him irresistible. Graysen is a male with a painful past who wants nothing more than to care for someone. He’s a true caretaking king: cooking, bathing, bandaging wounds, and eventually tending to Faeryn’s more intimate needs as their bond deepens. His yearning for her is everything, especially since he holds the key to her past. And his mouth? His silence might cause problems during the day, but at night, it’s absolutely filthy. And I loved every second of it.
The one downside for me was the use of the miscommunication, or more accurately, the lack of communication trope as the primary source of conflict between the couple. While the story eventually reveals why things unfolded the way they did, and I came to understand Graysen’s guarded nature and careful choice of words, the repeated pattern of Faeryn asking questions only for him to ignore or deflect began to feel a bit overused. I couldn’t help but feel that some of those moments could have been trimmed or varied without sacrificing the suspense or emotional payoff of the eventual reveals. In my opinion, it just occasionally slowed the emotional momentum between them, which slowed the overall story down in spots for me. That said, I do see the creative reasoning behind these choices, and it didn’t pull me out of the story too much.
More than just a romance or mystery, this story weaves in powerful, inclusive themes of autonomy, self-acceptance, self-discovery, self-advocacy, and consent; adding depth beyond a couple slowly falling in love. It invites readers to witness how love and pain can coexist, and how vulnerability and healing can lead to a truly meaningful and successful partnership.
I loved the mystery elements woven throughout the story and was especially pleased that it concluded with a satisfying happy ending. All the major questions were answered, yet it still left the door open for the next book in the series in a natural, exciting way. I’m particularly curious about Dia as a character as there’s so much potential there with what we saw at the end, and I can’t wait to see where her story leads.
If you love monsters with depth, heroines with grit, and stories that make you feel, Finding Her is absolutely worth the read.
I’ve been getting more into monster romance lately, and this one did not disappoint! Faeryn is a strong-willed woman from Earth, who has amnesia and finds herself in a strange forest on an unfamiliar planet. Fire Daddy Graysen, who saves her from said forest, is protective and possessive from the start, but in a mostly wholesome way. He will stop at nothing to keep Faeryn safe, but that sometimes means keeping her confined to the house, and keeping a certain secret from her.
Now you might be thinking, “oh no, not another miscommunication trope.” But it’s not! Don’t get me wrong, the secret keeping was frustrating at the time. I was right there with Faeryn in her fury. But it felt justified once we got to dig deeper into the mystery, which was refreshing. And the mystery? This story took a turn I was not expecting, and it was fantastic.
I don’t often mention spice in my reviews, but the spice here was so good I was excitedly texting my friend about it! This would make for a great buddy read just for that aspect. I even discovered I like a particular micro-trope (but no spoilers 🤫). I also really appreciate how Graysen always asked for consent, even if it was something they’d done before, because consent is important and asking is sexy.
Thank you so much, Becca, for this ARC opportunity. I’m keeping an eye out for book 2! 💚
plot ⭐️4/5⭐️ spice 🌶️3/5🌶️ tropes ✔️brat x dom, memory loss, monster mmc✔️
🔥 the overarching mystery of who our fmc had me hooked from the beginning. the obvious secrets laced throughout the story, while creating such a unique fantasy world, resulted in me not being able to put this down! the world building was so special and made me feel as if i was there, which is so important to me! then there’s our mmc, oh boy was he a delight… ;)
thank you to the author and their team for providing me with this arc, all opinions are my own!
This book was so captivatingly beautiful. The author painted a picture of a whole new world. I couldn’t put the book down once started. There were unexpected plot twists that were unpredictable. The characters were unique and each one was lovable in their own ways. I recommend this book to those whom enjoy watching a movie inside of their heads- as this books describes beautiful scenery, settings, and characters.
An incredible blend of romance, fantasy, mystery and even sci-fi. It feels like Ice Planet Barbarians, Westworld, and Beauty and the Beast all blended into a delicious, shimmery cocktail.
The fantastical environments in the book are quite varied and all incredible. It's an unapologetically strange world, filled with flirty lizard people, undead-horse-drawn carriages, water dragons, four-armed bartenders, chatty sirens, and tasteful marble countertops. It's a marriage of modern and ancient, fantasy and scifi.
Our FMC, Faeryn, comes to consciousness completely naked and walking along a desolate road in the middle of a strange forest. She's as clueless about herself and her disjointed environment as we are; Who is she? Why is she naked? Why are the pumpkins in that field blue? Why hasn't the sun set in 30 hours?
Thankfully, she's rescued by Graysen; a tall, dark, and handsome barkeep who's somehow even more mysterious than Fae. He is equal parts cinnamon roll and rage demon (such a fun play on the tropes) and he clearly knows more than he’s telling. Still, the constant danger surrounding Fae means she has to rely on Graysen, regardless of his sometimes bizarre behavior. (It helps that he's very, very sexy).
Theirs is a magical and deadly world full of equal parts wonder and horror. Cheerful humanoid pincushions, lava-blooded monsters, and werewolf card sharks; and those are just the townsfolk! Far greater threats await Fae around every corner. Including, perhaps, the handsome man making her breakfast.
There's tons of twists and turns as well as subtle plot kernels that could lead into an expanded series. (Seriously, there's immense potential for a vast library of spin-offs and I'm here for them).
Despite the satisfying conclusion to the book, I'm very much looking forward to reading more stories in this amazing and mysterious world. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this and I feel so lucky to have read an ARC of this story!
I feel this book fits in perfectly with works of authors like Ruby Dixon, Tiffany Roberts, Opal Reyne and Victoria Aveline. - So obviously, I freaking loved it.
Faeryn is found injured and suffering from amnesia in the dangerous woods of an unfamiliar place. Her secretive and alluring rescuer, Graysen, commits himself to keeping her safe while she tries to acclimate to his home world filled with strange creatures.
This book was such a FUN read! I thoroughly enjoyed every page—it had mystery, humor, romance, and spice. I really wanted to devour this book in a weekend, but I forced myself to savor it because I didn’t want it to end. The author did a great job with hooking the reader from the beginning and keeps you turning the pages whether it’s to figure out more of the mystery or get to a much-anticipated spicy scene. I highlighted many lines because I could easily relate to how the author was describing specific things. I just LOVE the author’s voice—I can’t wait to read more of her work! And OMG Greysen is definitely a new book boyfriend. I NEED more of him in my life—and Faeryn too. I would rate the spice in this book at a 4 because there were some kinky bits and the spicy scenes were explicit but the spice didn’t dominate the book. I thought the author did a really great job of writing the spicy scenes. As for romance, I think it is balanced with the other elements of the story—the romance is important but we would still have a story without it.
I would definitely recommend this book, but especially to those who enjoy relatable humor sprinkled throughout, explicit spice with a little kinkiness, a good mystery to try to solve while reading the book, and a romance that is balanced with the plot. Also you will like this book if your favorite tropes are any of the following: monster/paranormal romance, amnesia/memory loss, touch her and die, forced proximity, fated mates, morally grey MMC, secret past, dom/brat, dual POV, possessive MMC, and found family.
Thank you to the author for providing this eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Finding Her is a story that took me by surprise and transported me to a unique world that was mysterious, beautiful and so full of potential. When our FMC Faeryn is running through dangerous woods with no recollection of who she is or even what she is running from, you feel her helplessness and confusion. After narrowly escaping the dangers of the forest, she is rescued by a handsome male with inhuman characteristics and an unreadable demeanor. The mystery of the origin of Faeryn’s amnesia and her connection to Graysen, her monstrous male rescuer, was captivating. Pair that with the world building of Trebianna and its developing lore, there is so much potential for this story and its characters. I found myself constantly looking for clues while also just enjoying the growing relationship between Graysen and Faeryn. Faeryn is a beautiful spirit who owns her curves and knows what she wants. Amnesia doesn’t keep from living in the moment and owning her desires. And Graysen, oh Graysen, what a king! We live for a dominant male who also knows the meaning of care and consent. (Swoon) Long live men written by women!! The lovable side characters that round out this cast are unforgettable and I hope we get to see more from them in the future. This story is romantic, hot, heartwarming and funny! Becca has that wit that just makes you chuckle throughout. It doesn’t take you out of the story, it enhances it and makes interactions feel so natural. This story has elements from so many genres. From cozy fantasy to monster romance, mystery to dystopian, this book will appeal to a lot of readers and when you finally unravel the strategically placed clues and see this world for what it is, I promise you will be satisfied and eager for more!
A haunting journey through memory and monsters, where every secret could ignite salvation…or destruction. 🖤

Thank you to the Author for allowing me to ARC read this amazing story for you.
I am so glad I got the chance to read Finding Her. This book made me want to slow down as I read it, just so I could take it all in. I love the amnesia trope and this was done so well, but I was nervous diving straight in with the FMC Faeryn having lost her memories. Could I care about her or feel immersed in the story when I didn’t know what had been lost with her memories? It turns out I didn’t need to worry, it only took a few pages for the book to hook me in.
We learn about the world with Faeryn in ways that feel natural thanks to her amnesia and everything I learned kept me turning the page. While there aren’t an excessive amount of spicy scenes, there is a decent amount and they start before the halfway point in the book. And they really deliver, I don’t think any monster romance reader will be disappointed in that department. And not only is there spice, but the story grabs on and doesn’t let you go. I never felt like I was given an info dump, I sometimes was frustrated (in a good way) with the characters around Faeryn for holding back information, but it was because the writing made me want to know more and I was invested. There is intrigue and mystery from the very first page. I adored both Faeryn and Graysen and seeing their relationship and the truth unfold. Not to mention the worldbuilding was so beautifully described. The setting truly felt unique, as someone who loves both science fiction and fantasy, the two were woven together well.
I think this book has a little something for many readers and a unique setting with a captivating story and enchanting characters. It is worth adding to a bookshelf.
I loved this story! The world-building, complex characters, mouth-watering spice 🌶️🌶️🔥🔥 and the plot keeps you on your toes and wanting so much more. Graysen and Faeryn have a beautiful and traumatic love story but they persevere in spite of their tragic pasts. The yearning that occurred in this book was mouth-watering and hurtful in the best way. I couldn't put this book down and inhaled it in under 3 days....spoiler this book is over 400 pages! So if you're not used to a hefty read than this isn't for you. But if you are then strap in for a book that will make you swoon and want to scream sometimes in the span of a few pages 😅. Ms. Becca Ray Blackwell does a masterful job in birthing a story that balances fantasy, mystery, romance, and a smidge of sci-fi. I went in thinking this was gonna be an enthralling fantasy romance with magical elements and was given so much more. One thing that stuck out to me was how naturally the spicy scenes were written into the story. They came so organically and I love when authors can execute that so perfectly. Speaking of spicy scenes, the use of hands (claws) and mouth work (forked tongue, oh yeah 👅) makes reading this in public quite challenging 🤭🫣. I have a new favorite shadow daddy and his name is Graysen!!! "Finding Her" is a beautiful story of self-discovery, healing, hope, and finding where you truly belong. Finding your home, and sometimes it's not a place but a person 🩷.
This book was so amazing! Think like monster romantasy meets a modern day mystery show with so many plot twists! It also gave me beauty and the beast vibes which who doesn't love that movie?! Our FMC has amnesia and finds herself in a world very unlike her own but thankfully there is the kind hearted Graysen there to take care of her and to heat things up 😉. This story was so well balanced between storyline and spice that I couldn't put it down (thust ending my book slump)! And there were so many lines that just had me swooning 🫠 Definitely a top read for me!
I'm so grateful to the author for the ARC and the chance to read this!
I really enjoyed reading this. I was sold at the description of the MMC, and hooked by the interesting route the story took. I liked the characters, though I do wish I knew more about some of the side characters (fingers crossed for the next books). I did think the main problem was managed fairly easily, and I wasn't in the mood for something super complicated that I had to think too hard about, so this was perfect!
Great characters. Good plot. Well written spice. Such a great time!
