The Glenbriar #15

Love Match on the Road Home

Rate this book
Sometimes the hardest match is the one you never meant to play.

After tennis star Georgie Porter retires at just thirty-one, she buys a campervan and returns to her hometown of Glenbriar, hoping to make amends for the hurts she caused to a former sweetheart. But instead of finding the man whose heart she broke many years ago, she comes face to face with his younger brother, Kerr.

Easy-going and quietly loyal, high school teacher Kerr Halley has strong opinions about Georgie Porter – and there are rules about interacting with your brother’s ex, no matter how long ago she split with him. Especially when Kerr has always secretly carried a torch for her.

When they’re thrown together to fundraise for a local sports project, old grudges begin to thaw, and Kerr’s true feelings come to light.

As Georgie rediscovers the charm of small-town living, she’s drawn to Kerr’s warmth, his wit, and the way he sees the woman she is now – not just the girl she used to be. But falling for him means confronting her past... and risking fresh heartache within a family she’s already hurt.
In a town where history runs deep and people have long memories, Kerr’s loyalties are tested – and Georgie must decide if she’s brave enough to play for love, and not just for victory.♥ Love Match on the Road Home is the 15th book in The Glenbriar Series, but can be read on its own as a standalone.

♥ Set in the highlands of Scotland in a small town with fun, romance, drama, and a guaranteed happy ending, Love Match on the Road Home has a bit of steam and lots of heart.

About the author

Margaret Amatt

Margaret is a Scottish author and chocolate lover who has been writing stories for over twenty years (possibly more if you count her primary school efforts). Her early works will never see the light of day and are locked in dusty vaults on some old floppy disks. But after all those years of practise, Margaret released her first novel A Winter Haven in 2021. This is the first of a ten-book series set on the gorgeous Scottish Isle of Mull.
The stories are unashamedly romantic but with lots of drama and an eclectic mix of characters. Each book can be read as a standalone but followers of the series will enjoy catching up with previous characters.
A new spin-off series based in the Scottish Highlands is coming out in 2023. Look out for the Glenbriar Series throughout the year.

My Opinion

Love Match on the Road Home is the fifteenth book in the Glenbriar Series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. I am really enjoying this series so I am always excited when I see a new release. With charming characters, Margaret Amatt has written a delightful addition to the series. A lovely, cosy read.

Once again, Margaret Amatt has aced her writing and created a book that deserves its place in this gorgeous series. It’s packed with tennis references and more than a couple of double entendres.

Kerr, a teacher at the local high school, had kept his attraction to local tennis star, Georgie Porter, a secret from everyone. She was older than his and his elder brother’s former girlfriend. At 15, he felt that there was no way to reveal his feelings, and now it was too late, despite her now being single.
Kerr was a wonderful character, and I loved his fierce loyalty to his family and his community-mindedness. A somewhat predictable situation sees Kerr and Georgie paired in a mixed doubles tennis match, and all Kerr’s feelings are swiftly awoken. Leaving him feeling overwhelmingly conflicted, and determined to keep a safe distance from her. However, this is a book by Margaret Amatt, and good intentions rarely hold. Kerr’s intentions speak volumes about his character, and I was drawn to him. The conflict that he felt spoke volumes about his character, something that I found incredibly attractive.

Georgie was a likeable yet potentially mercurial character, although we only learned of her past anecdotally. I must admit, I found myself expecting her mask to drop and her true nature to appear; thankfully, her kindness was her true nature, and she seemed delightful. She remained a pleasant and proactive part of the plans for the local tennis club and Glenbriar.

There are plenty of cameos from residents of Glenbriar, and some great opportunities to learn more about how Georgie had fitted in before her career took off. Of course, she was at school with many of the female residents, so she soon found herself welcomed back to the fold.

Like the other books in this series, there are spicy moments, but not too racy. All is in direct context with the story, and there’s nothing salacious about it. I loved this book, and I hope you will too. I am unsure how Margaret continues to produce such fabulous stories, but I am glad that she does. Glenbriar has captured my heart, and I would be saddened to say goodbye to such a fantastic community.

I always start reading a book in this series with anticipation and this story did not disappoint. The central character, Georgie, is at a crossroads in her life, having retired from professional tennis and for the first time, is able to switch off and take time out. She has chosen to return to Glenbriar as she is keen to apologise to her first boyfriend over the way they split up. Her ex's brother, Kerr, is the one she meets and feelings from the past are stirred up from the start, for both of them.

For a long time, Georgie and Kerr seem determined to ignore their true feelings but a true friendship develops. Some have preconceptions as to what Georgie is like, seemingly in awe of her fame and past success. Georgie warms to life back in Glenbriar and begins to see to upside of helping others to improve in her beloved sport. Community, family and friendship are central, as ever, with the beauty of the Highlands there to be seen. This is a delightful. gentle romance with likable characters who find they have bid f=decisions to make.

In short: new starts and moving on

have said this once... and I will say it again... I bl0ody LOVE this series!

This is Book 15 in The Glenbriar Series and I love how almost all characters mentioned in the series have slowly gotten their own book!

In this book, it is the turn of Georgie and Kerr. Georgie is a tennis star who left Glenbriar to move to London to train... Kerr... well he is the brother of Georgie's ex - what's the worst that can happen?

I adored both these characters. Georgie was just great and given her lifestyle, really suited how she chose to spend the first part of her tennis retirement; whereas Kerr... I adored Kerr. He is so loveable!

As always Maragrett has masterfully written the story itself and woven this amusing and amazing story around these two wonderful characters.

I wasn't quite sure how the 'dating your exea brother' would pan out, but rest assured it was brilliant and you will love seeing the relationship develop.

I really hated Jake (Kerr's brother) but part of me hopes that he too will get his own book... just so he can redeem himself more than anything.

Beautifully written, highly engrossing and extremely heart-warming tbis is another FANTASTIC book by Margarett!

The fifteenth book in the Glenbrair series, which can be read as a standalone. Since I started from book twelve I have not been disappointed. The author keeps upping the ante and each book gets better and better.

Love Match follows the story of retired tennis player Georgie who returns to Glenbrair after retirement to apologise to her former boyfriend for breaking his heart. Instead, she mets his brother, Kerr, who has always had a crush on her.

I enjoyed the friendship between Georgie and Kerr. I loved how this celebrates family, small towns and starting over. The small town setting and the unique way the author combines well known tropes, spinning it and making them her own were delightful.

If you love small town romance l, forced proximity and ex’s brother then you will love this.

Retired tennis star Georgie has retired from tennis due to injury, she’s not sure what she wants to do next!
She buys a campervan and sets off on an adventure which takes her to Glenbriar where she lived previously.
Lovely to catch up with previous characters from earlier books and meet new characters Jake who was Georgie’s boyfriend before she left and his brother Kerr.
Glenbriar welcomes her back but not everyone is happy she’s returned.
No faults in this story as Georgie and Kerr are the perfect doubles, game, set, match to Margaret Amatt for brilliant storytelling.

Wild horses couldn't tear me away from revisiting Glenbriar. I've grown to love it there. Everything, from their little community, the likeable residents, and the Scottish scenery are always guaranteed to make me smile!

Love Match is the fifteenth book in the Glenbriar series and it introduced me to a new face in the shape of Georgie Porter....who is NOT to be confused with the GP of Hollyoaks fame!

It's an enjoyable story of starting over and second chance.

Margaret Amatt has added another great book to the Glenbriar series. Tennis player Georgie Porter finds herself taking earlier retirement and decides that she needs to return to Glenbriar to apologise to Kyle, the man she left behind. When she gets there it’s his brother Kerr Halley that she meets. He has always had a thing for Georgie and when they get thrown together to attend a meeting and then get stuck in her camper a during a storm……. But Kyle is very bitter so can anything actually develop between them? I really love how along with being introduced to new characters already established ones are threaded throughout. I meant to go for a run but started reading this and sat and read it in one go instead. Was definitely worth missing my run for!

Oh my goodness, Margaret is like the Shari Low of her romance writing style, she gets better with EVERY book!!! The ARC for Love Match on the Road Home is fun, fresh and engaging. I love going back to Glenbriar, we get to catch up with friends from previous books and meet new characters. This time we follow Tennis champ Georgie as she navigates life off court after retiring. She sets off in a campervan, which is brave as she like me, is an unsteady driver.
She has her heart set on clearing the air with her ex Jake, who wants nothing to do with her. Thrust together with his younger and very alluring brother Kerr, by the bossy boots with a heart, Amanda. Their awkward bond and trip in the campervan is bound to cause friction, sparks. Especially, once they start noticing each other.
I enjoyed the rain, landslides, weddings and magnificently sensual sexy time. Oh and what a kiss. Margaret deserves so much more recognition than she gets. I’d love to see the Glenbriar series on Netflix or Hallmark, it’s such a cosy Gilmore Girls type setting.
