Valley of Sylveren #3

Mistral Hearts

Rate this book
A diviner who’s sworn off romance. An heiress who’s all business. Fate brings them together, but the fear of love could drive them apart.

Calya Helm is determined to take over her family’s shipping company and lead it to greatness. Nothing will stand in her way. Not the stuffy trustee appointed by her doubting father, her shady ex-business partner out to fix his tarnished reputation, or even the smidgen of guilt she feels for unintentionally disrupting a Sentinel’s mission.

Nocren Lowe is a Sentinel of the Valley with a gift for divining using the wind. Haunted by the risks of his magic and the pain of past betrayals, he’s convinced there’s no room in a diviner’s life for romance. He’s content to do his work as a ranger and avoid forming serious attachments, even if the wind keeps whispering about the importance of a certain ambitious young woman.

When Calya’s probe into suspicious company documents aligns with the Sentinels’ investigation into a group of elusive mages, she strikes a deal for them to travel together. In the confines of a small ship, the mutual attraction she feels with the brooding ranger burns hot, and they agree to a single tryst. No sentiment allowed, and once the voyage is over, they’ll go their separate ways.

But their arrival in town only leads to more questions as carefully kept secrets unravel. When an old foe rises with a scheme that threatens Calya’s homeland with a deadly blight, she must decide what—and who—she’s willing to risk.

Mistral Hearts is the final cozy fantasy romance novel in the Valley of Sylveren trilogy. If you love spicy reluctant allies-to-lovers, snarky banter, and adventure with a touch of mystery, get swept away in Mistral Hearts!

A cozy fantasy romance with a girl boss FMC?! Heck yes. I loved this final installment in the Valley of Sylveren trilogy. I’d been wanting Calya’s story since book one then somehow missed the release of book 2 but was too impatient when I got this one to read it first 😂. Needless to say I will be going back to read it because they are best read in order to understand the magic system, politics, and history better.

This one was spicier than I was expecting in the best way. Calya and Nocren’s flirty banter was fantastic. They absolutely cannot stay away from each other and it is so adorable because both have sworn off love. Nocren is wound up real tight and when he lets loose 😮‍💨. That ship scene especially 🔥. His sentient divination wind magic was so captivating. Calya for me was very relatable. I feel like ambitious women are frequently labeled as “cold hearted b*tch” while men are applauded for their achievements. I loved her character arc and realizing success was what she made it not jumping through hoops others have laid out for her.

I loved having our previous characters along for the journey and mystery solving. The magical mystery was intriguing with twists and turns that kept me hooked. With the hints, I’m hoping Zhenya is getting a spinoff 👀. Thanks to the author for the eARC.

This third installment in the series follows Calya who just wants to prove to her father she can run their family business. When she has to travel across the sea to solve more about who is poisoning the lands, she realizes this is her opportunity to prove she can solve this mystery and prove to her father she can run the business. She also must team up with the Sentinels, and one in particular she can’t stop thinking about. But it’s all business and so they can keep business and pleasure separate right?

So, I really love this world and the characters. It was such a fun time reading this series and seeing the world, the magic, the romances. I really enjoyed this series.

I loved seeing all my favorites from the previous books in this one. Everyone came together to work together and put a stop to whoever is poisoning the land. Loved seeing the banter between everyone.

Nocren was an unexpected person when it came to the bedroom. He seems quiet, until he’s not and rather demanding. I really enjoyed his character. I love unpredictable characters like him.

Calya I knew from the start I wouldn’t particularly like or connect with. I appreciate her ambition. I love she knows what she wants and will get it even if it hurts others. But I don’t like how she treated Nocren in the end.

I will say first the steam in this book is hot and I loved every moment of this book except for the romance.

There might be slight spoilers after this….

I enjoy a story that kind of goes a different path from others for the ending of a story or maybe the romance doesn’t work out. I appreciate uniqueness. But this one I was very disappointed in how the romance played out.

Nocren deserved better. He deserved to be happy and that’s not with Calya who only truly cares about herself and her family business. She kept saying how she could never love Nocren. I mean, excuse me? Then let him go.

Nocren then says that he can love her enough for the both of them. Ummmm no. Be kind to yourself Nocren. You deserve true love, not whatever this is with Calya.

I think the romance just should have ended. It makes me so upset that Nocren just chooses to be with Calya, someone who seems determined to never truly love him and that’s not fair to him.

The emotional payoff was awful. I was so disappointed with how that played out. I would have loved this if Calya were a different person.

This sadly was my least favorite of the series. I still enjoyed the story and plot and mystery itself. The rest of it was wonderful, the romance was not for me.

I look forward to reading more by Jaime though!

Thank you to the author for the e-ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Mistral Hearts by Jaime Ryanne
(Final book in the Valley of Sylveren trilogy)
Mistral Hearts is the perfect farewell to the Valley of Sylveren—a cozy fantasy romance that delivers spice, adventure, snark-filled banter, and just the right touch of mystery. As the final installment in the trilogy, it feels both deeply satisfying and bittersweet.
This story belongs to Calya Helm, and what an absolute joy she is to read. Capable, tough, and yes—sometimes a little prickly—Calya is the kind of heroine who stands firm in her strength without losing her heart. Watching her walls slowly shift and soften made every page compelling. She feels real, layered, and fiercely herself.
And then there’s Ranger Nocren Lowe… who will be living rent free in my heart for the foreseeable future. From the outside, he’s reserved and standoffish—but for Calya? He is anything but. The tenderness beneath that controlled exterior made me swoon more than once. The line, “While Calya Helm might taste like a mistake, Nocren could not find a drop of regret,” absolutely wrecked me in the best way. Their reluctant allies-to-lovers dynamic is full of delicious tension, sharp banter, and slow-burning chemistry that pays off beautifully.
The plot is well developed, the pacing is spot on, and the character growth feels earned and organic. The world-building once again immerses you so completely that you feel as though you’re walking the Valley yourself, I swear I can feel the rain! But what truly made this book shine for me was the emotional core—the friendships, the family bonds, and the deep connections that thread through the story. Those moments hit hardest and are what elevate this from a great romance to a truly memorable one.
I’ve loved this entire series, and watching Jaime Ryanne’s writing grow stronger with each book has been such a pleasure. Saying goodbye to these characters is bittersweet—I’ve treasured being part of their journey.
I already can’t wait to see what she writes next. She has firmly secured her place as one of my go-to authors.

Thank you for having me as part of the Street Team and for the privilege of reading the e-ARC!

- Strong female MC, looking to take control of the business she should be in charge of
- Excellent banter between the couple
- Determined FMC, Gruff MMC
- Being stuck in a ship for a few days leads to some sexy explicit fun

This is the third in the series, the conclusion of the Valley of Sylveren, and it gives the series a beautiful end. It starts off quickly with both the plot, and the relationship. The story rewards you with excellent chemistry, great back and forth, and the most explicit scenes of the series. Spicy level is 3/5, learning on the upper end, especially if you read the bonus chapter.

Similar to the other books in the series, the characters are "older" with Calya (27) being the younger sister to Dae, determined in everything she does in life but most importantly on taking over the family naval business. She is very driven, and will do what it takes to get her way, which may cause trouble for others. Nocren, who is older (around 37 is my guess), is a Sentinel who gets mixed up in the trouble from Calya, but ultimately gets put on the same path as their goals overlap. This book probably had the most action of the series, and it was thrilling to see the plot, and their relationship, move forward.

Some may miss it but the bonus chapter is quite fun as it brings the couple back to the beginning of their relationship, and the hardship Calya puts on Nocren...which may lead to hardship that Nocren then puts on Calya -- highly recommend.

I loved this series - each book had a slightly different feel, yet the same feel, which made it feel like coming back home and seeing old friends again. I can't wait to see where Jaime goes next.

Such a satisfying end to the series! Jaime Ryanne does it again - I absolutely loved this book. Seeing the found family come together again and grow even bigger was so wonderful. I ADORE this found family so much. They were really working together actively as a team in this book which was so good!! I also really enjoyed both Calya and Nocren as characters - they fit together so well and I was invested in both of their arcs. I wish I did a re-read of books 1 and 2 before this book - I felt a little fuzzy on some of the details about what happened in book 2 - but that's okay, I'll just go reread the entire series sometime soon now that they're all published.

Thank you the author for sending me an ARC to read! This review is voluntary and all thoughts are completely my own.

Calya has always been strong-willed and will do anything to accomplish her goals. And her top goal is proving herself to her father that she is ready to take over their family's prominent shipping company. Nocren knows that Calya is single-minded and will always put the company first... but he can't seem to stay away. And when he does manage to stay away, his wind magic pushes him right back to her.

I was actually kicking my feet and giggling throughout this. The "oh no we're going to get caught, let's make out to avoid suspicion" microtrope is done SO WELL in this one. The Scarlet Kiss scene was so fun and so hot. Nocren's visions from the wind were so compelling - they had me on the edge of my seat! And the way Calya ?? Such growth!! Swoon.

Mistral Hearts takes place immediately after the events of Growing Memories. This last novel in the Valley of Sylveren trilogy focuses on Calya Helm, the younger sister of Anadae Helm, and her determination to take over the family company. However, with the aforementioned events, her plans get a little complicated when she and everyone else begins to unravel the mysteries of what’s been happening, especially when there’s the gruff ranger, Nocren Lowe.

Calya Helm is someone you would never want to be on the wrong side of and her story has a level of intensity that I was not expecting. She is very much her own person and very independent but there are moments of her vulnerability that show through, especially when it comes to those she cares about. At the same time, she has reservations regarding the people around her and how much she can trust them. I love the evolution of her character and I enjoyed getting to know her especially since I’ve had glimpses of her throughout the series.

Overall, I’m sad that the trilogy is over. I adored my time in the Valley of Sylveren and I hope there’s a chance of returning sometime in the future. If you have started the series or you’re looking for a series to binge, I highly recommend this one. There’s quite a bit of everything and it feels like home. Thank you so much, Jaime Ryanne for welcoming me on this journey. I loved every moment and I hope there are more adventures (wherever they may be).

This book felt a bit different from the others in the series. I found that it showed a different type of love, something that kind of grew over time rather than the obsessive type the others had a bit. (Well, at least for Calya.) I mean, there were certainly attractions to fuel those spicy moments, but Calya is definitely a different type of person than her sister and friend when it comes to love and relationships. It certainly made it intriguing to read.

Calya definitely has a strong personality, and it took me a while to like her, I will say. Lowe, I had no problems liking right away if you know what I mean 😉. He certainly had a way with words that I will not complain about one bit. I did enjoy their team-up and liked the banter that ensued from them butting heads.

The plot was fun overall. I liked having the connection from book 1 to this one, but I do struggle sometimes with the very sciency type of magic and explanations of things. I will say I liked Calya for this as she often asked to have it explained in normal terms! 🤣 It would probably benefit reading these books all at once to be able to keep track of the overarching plot. Yes, I do recommend this series. It is quite fun and spicy!

ARC review - Thank you very much Jaime for this opportunity
3.5⭐ 2.5🌶️

Jaime Ryanne has succeeded in enriching her universe and bringing things full circle. I enjoyed making the connections with what had been introduced in the first book of the series. Divination by wind magic was well thought out; the author described and used it well. Calya brought a touch of humor with her sass and how unapologetic she is. However, what I appreciated most about this book was the way the author wrote the MMC. The fact that he was the emotional one in the relationship and the way he showed his vulnerability first won me over.

So why 3.5 if it's not a bad book? For me, if I experience strong emotions due to a conflict in a relationship, the reconciliation and/or declaration of love should be just as emotional. That's not what I felt, especially concerning Calya. I love that she's a girl boss, that she's determined and going for it to achieve her goals. However, I wanted to see more of her journey towards accepting her emotions. I really hoped to like the book more 🙈, because it's good! But maybe it's not the right one for me.

What can I say? I loved the Sylveren series from the beginning and it ended with a bang. This series aged like fine wine.

I loved Dae and Ez, Euny and Olaf were fantastic, but Calya and Nocren? Hold onto your panties, girls, because this man will melt them.

But let's start with Calya. I love imperfect heroines and Jaime wrote them fantastically. Calya is driven, selfish, and constantly telling everyone how cold-hearted she is — but under that facade is a heart and a brain. She is determined to make her own path in the world and I love her for it.

Nocren... oh, that man... I am obsessed. From his voice, to his motivations, and his gruff personality — he can handle Calya's fire and make it spark brighter, not dim it. Absolutely fantastic.
I also loved how this book pulls together the whole backstory of the series and doesn't leave readers hanging.

Spice.... oooooh reeaaallly delicious... romance is burning and everything is catching on fire. It is not slow burn so dont expect it but it is not insta love so don't worry about it.

I will be recommending this series till end of my time to everyone who wants characters that will speak to your heart.

What a way to end the series! We discovered the cure, we found 'Villain' and Brint is still the dude I hate till the very end. It was such a heartwarming moment when the group witnessed the cure working against the poison.

Calya was such a strong character - she's fierce, she's determined, she's a risk taker. No one, not even her own Father could falter her from her morals. I love that the two sisters were so different from one another yet both held true to their own value and purpose.

Lowe was definitely a cinnamon roll in my eyes despite having been betrayed in the past. His unique wind magic was a cool concept and I loved that it bent to Calya.

I do wish there was more dialogue written in this book. At times I felt I was just reading paragraphs of descriptions or characters internal monologues. Just a preference! Thank you to Jaime for this ARC, I loved this world and am sad it's coming to an end.

I’ve loved the Valley of Sylveren series, and Mistral Hearts was no exception. Just like the other books, this one was completely bingeable from start to finish.

I was especially happy that Calya finally got her own story. Her journey felt deeply satisfying, and Nocren was the perfect partner for her. Their dynamic was filled with beautifully written tension and angst, making their connection feel authentic, emotional, and truly compelling.

One of my favourite things about this series is how effortlessly the world-building and romance work together. The story feels rich and immersive without ever becoming overwhelming, and the emotional stakes keep you deeply invested in the characters and their journey.

If you’ve enjoyed the Valley of Sylveren series, this instalment delivers the same captivating storytelling and heart that makes these books so easy to devour.

My sincere thanks to the author for the opportunity to experience this story through early access.

This was a cozy fantasy love story wrapped in almost historical romance.
Cayla, our FMC, is back to reclaim Healm Naval Engineering, the family business, but is really hindered by the Coalition who want to control everyone and everything.
Brint, the MMC, is both a problem and a solution, but neither of them are great at trusting.
This is the kind of book where magic is a normal part of life and in the case of the Coalition, another way to control and make themselves more powerful & wealthy.
I wouldn’t call it an enemies to lovers, but there are some great fighting & making up scenes.
This is a SPICY book! Don’t get it twisted - but it’s also a book about trust and love & priorities.
This is book 3 in the world and I highly suggest reading the others first. They are great fun!
Thanks for the arc!

Hello, people!
First of all, let me mention that this book is the third book in the Valley of Sylveren series.
This is the third and final part of the exciting trilogy, whose world building is incredible. In addition, the story has suspense, adventure, is mysterious, bittersweet and fascinated.
The protagonists are Calya and Nocren, and believe me, you will be excited about them. Their chemistry is wonderful and as characters they are well-written and have depth.
In closing, I have to say... what writing is this...! It really has it all. Passion, tension, emotions... The author really captivates you, wins you over, excites you, makes you get lost in her world and captivates you!

This is the final book in the series, and the series truly goes out with a bang. We meet Calya Helm, who is absolutely determined to prove to her father that she’s perfectly capable of running the company. She’s sworn off love and any and all distractions. She’s focused, driven, and all business. That’s the plan, at least. But when she has to cross the ocean, her plan takes a turn thanks to her seasickness. Luckily, there’s a cure … and that cure comes in the form of Ranger Nocren Lowe.

Nocren is a loner and he fully intends to keep it that way. He is a diviner who can hear the whispers of the wind. He’s also grumpy, guarded, and avoids anyone at all costs. Until Calya. Nocren and Calya need to work together to solve a mystery that impacts her business. However, they uncover an even bigger secret along the way.

Overall, I absolutely loved this book. I loved Calya from the start. She thinks she knows exactly what she wants, but she’s also brave enough to change and go after what truly matters to her. This book was the perfect ending to the series.

This story follows Calya and Nocren Lowe. Two characters tough and intense in their own rights. However I loved reading about these two, this trilogy as a whole has been wonderful truly. Yes the love story is beautiful to read about and was engaging. Walls fell down, the banter between these two was wonderfully written, it was sharp and witty. But this story was more than that, it dove into friendships, and family both hardships and joy in those relationships. That exploration was done beautifully in the book. This was a nice finish to the series. Our FMC, Calya, was intense, fierce bold and could be angry. She was a joy to read about and see change as the story progressed. I love reading about a strong FMC who is actually strong all the way through. I suggest this series to most people.

Mistral Hearts is the final book of the trilogy Valley of Sylveren. Following Calya Helm, the aspiring heir to Helm Naval enterprise. But her apparent reckless and impulsive personality has kept her father from passing on his legacy. When a shipment appears to be missing, and a rival comes back into the picture, how far will Calya go to solidify her inheritance? And could there ever be anything more with the Sentinel Lowe?

Is Calya reckless or ruthless?

I had fun with this story and following Calya and Lowe as they work to discover the secrets and threats to their homeland.

Mistral Hearts is a soft, romantic fantasy that leans heavily into emotion and atmosphere. The story follows characters who are trying to find their place while navigating love, loyalty, and personal growth. The writing has a gentle, dreamy tone that makes it easy to sink into the world.

While the pacing can feel a little slow at times, the character dynamics and romantic tension keep things interesting. If you enjoy character-driven fantasy with heartfelt moments and a touch of magic, this one is worth picking up. ✨

Mistral Hearts is a book 3 in the Valley of Sylvern series. It is a fun, cozy, and adventurous book. It pucks up right where book 2 leaves off. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Calya, the FMC, is determined to do right by the family business. Nocren, the MMC, is a Sentinel who has given up on romance after too much betrayal. The two are forced together when Cayla's research into some business dealings line up with Nocren's investigation. The two go from reluctant allies to lovers and has a found family. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend.

This was the final book in the Valley of Sylveren trilogy. This was a very cozy fantasy romance. There was adventure, spice, lots of great banter, and some mystery added in.

I thought this book had great pacing and a good plot. Calya Helm walks to the beat of her own drum and is fiercely independent. I loved the evolution of her character as the story progressed.

Overall, really enjoyed this story. Thank you to Nerd Fam and the author for the gifted ARC!

Such an amazing book, seriously Cayla is me and I am her lol and for anyone who hates Brint as much as I do, you’ll love this! This series is just great. Nice to read books about women around 30 y/o who have complex emotions and relationships. Also, the spice is so well written, actually some of the best I think I’ve read, and the diversity of characters and the fact that all characters have their own sexual personalities makes it never boring or repetitive.

🌬️Mistral Hearts by Jaime Ryanne

💋This one is definitely my favorite out of the Sylveren Valley Series. Mistral Heats is the last book in this series and wow did it deliver. Spice, banter and all the tension you could want

💛Head strong, career focused, fierce FMC named Cayla Helm, sister to Anadae Helm who was our FMC in the first book Elemental Affections. Not gonna lie I really didn’t like Cayla in the first couple of books, she was more focused on the family business thinking that the two of them would end up running the family business. But when she found out that Dae had no interest in the family business she almost turned her back on her.

🌊However, things change for Cayla in this one, we get a look into her life, what it’s been like since her sister left the business and how she is still not where she would like to be in the business. She kind of reminds me of Nesta from ACOTAR. I hated her in the first books but learning more about her and what she was going through made me love her. Jaime did the same thing to Cayla. Cayla is definitely my favorite character in this series!

🪖Oh and let’s not forget about the only man who was able to get under her skin, and make Cayla lower her walls. that man is ranger Nocren Lowe - Sentinel of the Valley. Being a diviner can’t be easy, it’s one of the reasons he has sworn off romance in fear that the other person would use his powers for their own advantage. But the wind keeps whispering to him about some young head strong woman.

🌬️I think fate is playing her games again as she throws these two together at every chance she gets. Lucky for us, as the banter is off the charts, the spice gets spicier and the mystery of the dying land finally gets answers

‼️I highly recommend if you love science, magic of different sorts, adventure and mystery this one is for you
