Lane R Warenski lives in a log home in Duchesne County, Utah, where he has an unrestricted view of the highest peaks in the mighty Uinta Mountains. Warenski was raised being proud of his pioneer heritage and with a deep love and respect of the outdoors. Ever since childhood, following his father, Lane R Warenski has hunted, fished, and camped the mountains of the West. Whether it was the daily journals of William Ashley and Jedediah Smith or the fictional stories written by the great storytellers like Louis L’Amour and Terry C. Johnston, throughout his life, Warenski loves reading the history of the first explorers that came west, most of whom never dreamed they were opening this wild and rugged land to the pioneers and settlers that followed.

Night Tracker: A Frontier Western Adventure (Frontier Scout Book 2) by Lane R. Warenski is a well-written tale of a young man, his wife, and their adopted daughter set in the Nebraska Territory in the 1800's. Caleb, his wife Nettie, and Sarah Jane, their daughter live at Fort Laramie in a difficult time when the settlers are pushing through the treacherous lands of the Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Lakota tribes on their way to the promised lands of Oregon and California territories.
The lands that the settlers are passing through are the land and livelihood of the Indian tribes and the effects of the growing number of pioneers, hunters, and wagon trains are taking a toll on the land and resources that have provided the local tribes since the beginning of time for them. At this point in history, the native tribes have had enough and will not stand for the continuous encroachment on their land and have banded together to stop it through whatever means necessary.
He never forgets anything he sees, reads, and hears. Once Caleb learns something it's locked in his brain for future recall giving him a knowledge set which is far above his fellow men. That being said, it does not go to his head and he his respected by all and his both devoted to his job as a scout and willingly places his life on the line to ensure the safety of his fellow soldiers and the pioneers he scouts for.
Caleb and Nattie's love for each other is one that will satisfy the romantic needs of all the romance lovers out there. Their love is one that will bring warmth to your heart and the love and devotion to Sarah Jane is as strong as any love for a child by their parents.
Even with his life on the line each and every time Caleb leaves Fort Laramie to scout, he faces numerous encounters with the local Indian tribes facing many battles and hardships along the way but still has a respect for the Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Lakota tribes and feel for their concern for the whites moving into and through their territory and wishes there was a way for both the Indians and the settlers to co-exist without bloodshed on both sides.
This piece of historical fiction is one that will appeal to all ages. I really have enjoyed this book as well as the first one in this series and hope you will find yourself enjoying it too.

A fast ride from the first page to the last. Great story from both the Native American and the pioneer's perspective. Night Tracker is a fast learned with a photographic memory, plus skilled after Learning from more experience soldiers. so young, he's always surprised when praised, which makes him the perfect hero.
Another great novel by Lane Warenski! I get totally involved in each of his books and this was no exception. I feel as though I'm transported through time and I'm watching the story unfold in front of me. You get to know each character in the story and feel as though you've known them a lifetime. The stories have action but they also have love. I look forward to the next book in this series! Hoss
Caleb, known as Night Tracker, has become a legend among military troops as well as the Cheyenne. As he leads a large wagon train through the territory, violence is the everyday occurrence. In using hand language, Caleb has a truce with the Chiefs in the area, but he knows it is tenuous at best. Passing through the hunting grounds on the trek to Oregon has angered the tribes, especially if they hunt the buffalo. The buffalo is the life blood of the Indians as every part of the animal is used by the Indians and the regular hunters only want to skins. As the animals lay in waste across the plains, it angers the Indians that so much meat is wasted. This is the story in this book which is an honest telling of the destruction of buffalo herds. Caleb led the train through, but outraged tribes made it deadly. Wagons burned, people killed, and heartache met everyone as they headed west to Oregon for a better life and land. The book is well written.
The author has written a great story of a frontier scout’s exceptional skills as he help the wagon train pioneers through all the dangers, hardships and challenges they face as they traveled through hostile Indian territory on their way to their new homes in the West. A story full of adventure and heroism.
The action parts of this book were very well written, the storyline solid and exciting. Unfortunately, the author didn't handle the non-action sequences as well. Nettie's storyline was very repetitious. I also found the overuse of "night hunter" by the soldiers and civilians offputing.
Another outstanding frontier novel by Lane Warenski. It was well written and full of action. I've read all of his novels and he has yet to disappoint. I would highly recommend this story too!
I have read every one of Lane Warenski's books and enjoyed them thoroughly. They have all been well written and well edited. Not sure what happened with Night Tracker?! Definitely a 5 star story but I found myself editing as I read.
A really great Book and storyline that I thoroughly enjoyed with lots action and suspense! Interesting battles with two different tribes uniting to try to defeat the whites! Can't wait for the next book in this Series...
Simply superb. Great story. Exciting. Made me feel as though I was there in the thick of things. I am happy to say that L.A. Warenski is now my favorite author. Can’t wait to get into the next exciting story.
Another wonderful story. I do hope this is not the end of Nettie's and Caleb's story. This story has all the elements of a western saga: Indians, pioneers, soldiers, buffalo, and wagon trains. Highly recommended.
A story of pioneering wagon trains heading west, the soldiers sworn to protect them and the history of the tribes trying to stop the flow. Night Tracker the scout that tries to keep everyone safe. Good read.
Exciting story! Mostly authentic western about western conflict with Indians, Army and Western movement! Very modern modern view point. Still entertaining!
This series continues to get better with each book. Highly recommend this series to anyone. I have the next book ready to start now. Recommend readers start with book one to get the best experience.
