A brand new vampire. The lover who got her killed. And a desire neither can deny.

Tatyana Vorona used to be human… until she met the dark and mysterious Oleg Sokolov. He lives in a world of power, blood, and betrayal. And now so does she.

By helping him, Tatyana helped herself to an early grave. Then she rose again as a vampire with the ability to manipulate water. Tatyana is in hiding, trying to master her magic, blood lust, and the terrifying draw she still feels toward the man who set all this in motion.

He might control fire, but flames of desire have a will of their own.

Oleg’s empire was shaken by his daughter’s betrayal and the bloodshed that followed. Now someone else is trying to take advantage of the chaos to destabilize his rule further. He should be hunting them down, making an example of anyone who dares to challenge him.

Instead, he’s searching for her. No matter how far Tatyana runs, he’s determined to return her to his side. And when it turns out she’s hiding right underneath his nose, he’ll do whatever it takes to make Tatyana his. Permanently.

Fire and water collide in this steamy romantic fantasy about a new vampire that won’t submit and her powerful lover who must learn to bend in order to keep her. CRIMSON OATH is the sequel to BLOOD MOSAIC, and takes place in the same expansive world as Hunter’s popular Elemental Series.

This was a great continuation of the story. The end of the first was very emotional, and these two are complex characters in a complex world. They both have behaviours and idiosyncrasies that stem from their very different histories and experiences. They were like two people speaking different versions of the same language.
Navigating the new political and cultural landscape that she is now a part of has Tatyana a bit overwhelmed and she has a few handfuls that are holding her back when it comes to Oleg. Oleg is trying to keep up his responsibilities and reputation while dealing with his feelings for Tatyana that he’s in a little bit of denial about.
These two were so real and layered that I found myself frustrated with them almost as often as I was enamoured. I also enjoyed the alternate point of view of the events in Dawn Caravan a lot. Elizabeth Hunters grasp of the human (and vampire) condition had me empathising with characters while still finding myself on the edge of my seat and wanting to yell at them. And while the ending of this book was more happily and less cliffhanger, there are still a good bunch of loose ends that I need to get closure on. Can’t wait for the next one.

The delight that this book brought me cannot be expressed enough! Getting back into the elemental universe and getting to see these characters evolve and develop more is such a treat. Oleg, I know you are not trying to be adorable…..but I hate to break it to you, you not only melt your enemies, but also my heart. Seeing the Dawn Caravan once again hit me in a fresh new way. It was certainly center stage in the Ben and Tenzin book where they visited the unique Poshani experience, but this time I saw it so much more deeply. I didn’t realize how much time had already passed in the 6 month Poshani season before Benzin showed up. Seeing it all through Tatyana’s eyes for the whole season was so cool. There was so much more to it than I had imagined, stores, plays and restaurants and so many more people, a true community showed strongly in this book. If you read Dawn Caravan then you know some of the details that occur in this book later on, but they are a small part of this book. You are certainly getting a whole new story here, who knew Dawn Caravan had so much more going on behind the mayhem?!
This story is really pulling on my heartstrings and I am left yearning to see what happens next for Tatyana, Oleg and the rest of the Poshani, mortal and immortal.

The second book in The Firebird and the Wolf series, it was so good to come back to Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental world for an exciting and romantic continuation for Oleg and Tatyana. They were separated at the end of the first book in their series, and this book begins months later with them still apart, but with Oleg desperately searching for the woman that he can’t forget.

Tatyana is now a vampire and is trying to reconcile the end of her human life with the reality of her immortality, and I enjoyed seeing her trying to figure it all out. She finds temporary sanctuary with the kamvasa, a super secretive band of vampires that spend six months of the year travelling in caravans across eastern Europe. It’s reminiscent of the gypsy lifestyle, with a fabulous mix of vampire and human characters that embrace Tatyana into their world. Meanwhile, Oleg is investigating a series of attacks on his business and his people, tracking down the bad guys and uncovering a devastating betrayal that hints at a deeper plot against him. All while trying to find his girl.

There’s a lot going on, but admittedly, I struggled through the first half of this book. There are a lot of characters introduced and a whole lot of vampire politics going on and I struggled to keep everything straight in my head. Hunter’s world is so deep and complex, there’s just a lot of information thrown at you at once in this book, and I hadn’t reread the first so couldn’t remember who we had met, who we hadn’t, and how everybody all fit together. It doesn’t help that our couple were apart so the romance was pretty much non-existent, and honestly, that’s the whole reason I was reading, so I initially wasn’t feeling it.

Things pick up in the second half though. We get to see Tatyana on her travels and, best of all, Oleg is back in her life and determined to win her heart.

“This will be good. While you are still in the kamvasa, I will court you.”
She shook her head. “What does that even mean?”
We will spend time together, talk about many things, and share experiences that are not sex. So you will understand my character and I will understand yours.”
She grimaces. “So…no sex? Just talking for another six weeks?”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” he said. “We can have sex and talk at the same time.”

The love story is definitely there – it’s hot and steamy, and the connection between Oleg and Tatyana is just gorgeous. There is mad chemistry and a lot of emotion, and I loved seeing their relationship progress as Tatyana figures herself out and Oleg fully embraces his feelings for her – protecting and supporting her every step of the way.

"This is your dance. Your life will be long, milaya. My life will be long. Right now this is your dance."

I enjoyed reading about the kamvasa. It’s a great concept, and so interesting, and I love the way that Hunter has woven it into her world. Those familiar with the world may recognise the tie- in with the Elemental Legacy series, and Ben and Tenzin both appear in this book. Theirs are the only books in the Elemental world that I haven’t read, but I understand that events of this book cross over with Dawn Caravan, and even though I haven’t read that one, the crossover is very well done, and I enjoyed seeing them again.

This is an enjoyable read. A little slow to get going for me, but it finishes on a high note, and I’m excited to see what happens next for Oleg and Tatyana in the final book of their series.

3.5 stars.

This book was such a fantastic combination of all the elements I look for in a book! Oleg and Tatyana have officially gone from a “Oh, they’re pretty cool” couple to a “Oooohhhhhh, they’re endgame alright” couple. Having been an avid fan of Elizabeth Hunter’s throughout the entire Elemental storyline, I knew it was unlikely I’d find a couple who would get to an epic-level status like Gio & B or Ben & Tenzin for me, but holy cow did these two catch me off-guard! While this can be read as a standalone, I’d HIGHLY recommend also reading the Elemental Legacy series (preferably before, but after could also work) because seeing the other half of this book from Ben & Tenzin’s perspective in Dawn Caravan just ties everything together SO beautifully. I was able to read an early copy of this book and I’m incredibly happy to report that it is just *chef’s kiss*. I think I want to go back and read them both simultaneously to see the whole story play out at the same time. It takes a ton of skill to write an engaging, swoon-worthy story with an intricate plot line from one perspective - but to get a SECOND version that’s also hitting all those same markers (with characters who we’re still getting to know no less)… I’m genuinely gobsmacked. Well done. I’d easily recommend this book!

"Crimson Oath" plunges you back into a world of elemental magic and vampire intrigue, and it does not disappoint! Tatyana's journey from human to vampire is fraught with danger and self-discovery, and her internal struggles with newfound powers and bloodlust are compelling. Her struggle with accepting what her future will and will no longer hold, including family and children, pulls at the heart strings of the reader.
The chemistry between Tatyana and Oleg is scorching, made even more intense by their complicated past and their current struggle for control. Oleg wants to own her, Tatyana refuses to be owned.
Oleg's character is as complex as ever, torn between his desire for Tatyana and the responsibilities of his empire. Struggling not to hunt her down when she flees again but finding clues that tie nefarious acitivities to vampires in Tatyana’s vicinity wreck havoc on Oleg’s control.
The plot is fast-paced, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked.

Overall, "Crimson Oath" is a must-read for fans of romantic fantasy. The world-building is rich, the characters are well-developed, and the romance is steamy and satisfying, plus you can never go wrong with some beloved popups. I can't wait to see what happens next in this series!

if I thought I couldn’t love this couple enough… I now love them even more. Tatiana has joined the Don Caravan and is determined to make a name for herself without truly making a name for herself lol. She wants independence without the fame. I truly enjoy how her mind works and can understand her awareness of entering into a relationship that is so skewed. Her determination to respect the culture she finds herself in is admirable. Her fierce loyalty. It’s just another great personality trait I have truly enjoyed watching her develop even more in this book.

Oleg as quickly becoming a favorite MMC of mine. Well, not truly morally gray he definitely is for her willing to do questionable things lol. He is hot in so many ways. I can’t even express them. I love that. He is determined to make sure she is able to spread her wings as well.

The writing, the nuance, the twist you don’t see coming… All of this make for an amazing read. I already can’t wait for the next book.

Ok, I technically haven't finished it yet. But in my defense I had to slow down. Run on sentence alert........ I gobbled the first one down so fast I had to re read right after I read it that I didn't get to re read a couple months later thus stunting my enjoyment. You dig? So, I'm slowing down, ensuring a proper enjoyment. I know you dig, you got me and all those '70 euphemisms that I actually didn't really say in the '70's 'cause I was a baby. OOOOOOOhhhhhh, can you imagine Oleg in the '70's with the bell bottoms, mustache & side burns? I'm totally seeing a naksed Burt Reynolds on the cover of Cosmo. But with red hair. Hot. No? Maybe just me.

Anycrazyperson, I'm writing this to slow myself down if you didn't understand my "review".

This was such an amazing book that as much as I wanted to read it in one setting, I wouldn’t allow myself to. I had to savor it and make it last as long as I could. I could not get enough of Oleg and Tatyana. They are fast becoming one of my favorite couples in Elizabeth’s books.
The story was both familiar and unique. A completely different perspective and different point of view. I do recommend reading Dawn Caravan, either before or after as the stories overlap. We also get to visit with two of our favorite characters from it, which is always a treat!!
This series will definitely become one for my bookshelf at home. I loved it and know you will too!!

Tatyana has fled to Arosh's territory and Oleg can't go there. Will that stop a 1000 year old vampire from finding his little wolf?

When Tatyana hears about the kamvasa, she knows that's what she needs. Peace, security, and no Oleg! Maybe....

Oleg's brother Ivan is stirring up more suspicion. What is he involved in and will it affect Oleg's empire?

As the second book in this series, it could not be more spot on. Existing relationships deepen, new characters add interest to the story. A surprise appearance by a couple of our favorite vampires makes this story even better!

After reading Crimson Oath, I am even more anxious to read the third book in the trilogy. Ms. Hunter weaves storylines expertly. She pulls on threads that in the end, make a tapestry of love, intrigue, and the violent world of vampires. Any fan of fantasy will love this book!

I have reviewed an advance copy I received but I have also paid for an additional book.

Elizabeth Hunter has done it again! Crimson Oath picks up a few months after where Blood Mosaic ends. Tatyana is now a vampire trying to come to terms with the end of her human life while living with a new group of vampires and humans alike. Oleg is attempting to keep up appearances, find the source of sabotage within his business, while attempting to forget the woman he can’t stop thinking about. There are many new characters introduced into this world, intense political intrigue, and a lot of introspection into the human condition. I loved every second of it.

As for the romance in the book, it is done so well. Hunter balances real emotions, time for character growth, and swoon-worthy steamy moments to create an incredible love story. I both wanted to slap and hug both of the main characters many many times throughout the book. I could not put this book down and it is another perfect example of why Elizabeth Hunter is an auto-buy author for me. I cannot wait for the next one!

Thank you so much to Elizabeth and Valentine PR for this ARC in return for my honest review. My opinions are my own.

•My Thoughts•
I enjoyed being back in this world with Tatyana and Oleg. The combination of vampires in a human world and the elemental magic is such a fun one! I loved the cat and mouse situation between our main characters even if I felt it went a bit too long. Both of them had a lot to learn and this did give them the space to figure out each other and themselves. I really appreciated Tatyana’s caution and curiosity. I felt like her soft heart and recent humanity gave her great perspective and allowed her to be a great counter to Oleg’s brutality and ennui that comes with over a thousand years of life. I did feel like this was a bit of a bridge book, necessary to get the plot and characters into place but not the most exciting. Still, there were some really good moments (especially in the last half!) and I’m definitely interested to see how things wrap up in the final book 3 coming out in 2026.

Thank you so much to Elizabeth Hunter and Valentine PR for the early copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ah I love Oleg! he’s so fucking charming and obsessed with Tatyana. Still annoyed with her initial choices but I see that she needed to do what she did to become the vampire she needs to be. (Trying so hard not to do anything spoilery!)

I really like the found family she discovered and how she grew and connected with them over the course of the book. Mika continues to kill me. He’s fucking hilarious and I really started taking a liking to Radu. I hope there will be a lot more of him continuing on.

Definitely interested to see how everything works out and what kind of obstacles Oleg and Tatyana will face in the next book!

A very good read

Beautifully written, wonderful characters and as always excellent world-building makes this such an easy and wonderful read. The road to falling in love has been rocky and no doubt there is more to come but in many ways the romance in this is one of my favourites. Somehow it manages to have us understand the difficulties faced to be eternal and continue living in the current world and balance power and wealth with right, to balance vampire and human.
A very good read.

Book 2 of 3 of the Firebird and the Wolf section of the Elemental Universe. There is some overlap with Dawn Caravan, so if you haven't read that one yet, I recommend it.
Oleg is a complex character. Ancient, fierce, proud and loyal. His banter with his right-hand man Mika shows his sense of humour. And now he is adding romantic to the list, as he pursues his former human employee and brand new vampire, Tatanya.
She wants him too, but she needs more.
I loved this book from the start. It ranks among my favourites by Elizabeth Hunter. Great writing.

🌅As a fan of Elizabeth Hunter, I have been waiting for the next installment in The Firebird and the Wolf series and pre-ordered it from her website when it was announced. I can honestly say Crimson Oath did not disappoint. What I thought I was getting was a continuation of Tatyana and Oleg’s story, but the bonus was a retelling and behind-the-scenes of Dawn Caravan, a book I read four years ago. What was great about this version was that it brought back familiar faces and relationships, expanding the rich, elemental world they inhabit. At the same time, it built on the foundation of Blood Mosaic, deepening the story of Tatyana and Oleg. It holds to the genre of a rich fantasy romance that doesn’t shy away from complexity—emotional, political, or magical.

The story picks up nearly a year after the events that turned Tatyana into a vampire against her will. Still reeling from the loss of her humanity, she seeks refuge in the Fire King’s court, where she grapples with her bloodlust, her new elemental powers, and the looming question of who she wants to be now that her mortal life is behind her. Her choice to stay away from Oleg, the ancient fire vampire who changed her life forever, isn’t just emotional—it’s strategic. Tatyana is determined to hold onto her independence, even as she navigates a world that seems built to take it from her.

Oleg, for his part, is torn between duty to his empire and his desperate need to find Tatyana again. As his businesses begin to suffer mysterious attacks and his inner circle grows restless, it becomes clear that her absence is more than just personal—it might be connected to a much larger threat. When her hand is forced, Tatyana seeks sanctuary in the secretive and nomadic society of the Dawn Caravan, a hidden haven for vampires seeking to disappear. The world-building here is exquisite: the Caravan is more than a backdrop—it’s a character in its own right, brimming with tension, tradition, and the promise of transformation.

(Note: I went back to see when I last read Dawn Caravan and was surprised to see it was 2021. It feels like it was only last week. That’s how long the characters like Ben and Tenzin and the story will stick with you.)

What makes Crimson Oath stand out isn’t just the slow-burn romance—though that’s incredibly well done—it’s how Hunter handles themes of autonomy, trauma, and identity. Tatyana and Oleg are both flawed, stubborn, and beautifully human (not human😉) in the ways that matter most. Their chemistry crackles with every encounter, but it’s the emotional stakes that make their relationship so compelling. The power imbalance between them is addressed head-on, and the story doesn’t take shortcuts to easy resolution. Their dynamic is messy, complicated, and real.

If there's any critique to be made, it’s that this book isn’t a standalone and doesn’t offer all the closure some readers might crave. Several plot threads remain unresolved, and the story ends with a sense of anticipation rather than finality. (Watch out, Ivan) But that’s also part of what makes the experience so satisfying—it’s a world you want to return to, and characters you’re not ready to let go.

Crimson Oath is a rich, layered, and emotionally resonant continuation of Tatyana and Oleg’s story. Elizabeth Hunter delivers a tale that’s equal parts fantasy and heartache, steeped in romance, mystery, and political intrigue. I hope she continues to pepper it with our favorites Elemental characters like B&T and Bea & Gio, and maybe even Carwyn & Brigid. It’s a must-read for fans of mature fantasy romance with teeth.

"It could be worse!"

After having been turned into a vampire unexpectedly and against her will, Tatyana is still trying to come to terms with her new reality (and her attraction to Oleg). So she doesn’t fall completely under his spell and ceases to be her own person, Tatyana has removed herself from Oleg’s sphere of influence and found sanctuary at the Fire King’s Court. She is learning to control her hunger and her element, but after a time comes to realize that the Fire King’s hospitality is not limitless, so she is considering what to do with her new life. Going back to Oleg is out of the question, and as a vampire with no vampire family and under no one’s aegis her options seem kind of limited, although Tatyana is convinced that her skillset and the fact that she was just recently turned (and therefore still in touch with today’s world and technology), would be an asset to any vampire outfit. But the Fire King is getting impatient and with no prospect lined up she happens to learn from one of the harem girls about the kamvasa (the Dawn Caravan), which hides and protects vampires that need to disappear for a time (for a price naturally). Seeing as she is rich after having absconded with her sire’s treasures, Tatyana decides to book passage…

Oleg has been trying his hardest to give Tatyana space after the dramatic events accompanying her turning; also, he can’t snatch her from the Fire King’s protection without risking an all out war. And what is one year for a vampire as old as he. Even so he manages to contact her, she manages to escape his grasp. While Oleg is plotting how to get Tatyana back, fissures start to appear in his own empire. Someone has been targeting his legitimate business interests, ambushing his shipping operation and even killing his human employees. Oleg’s druzhina (elite warriors/advisors/confidantes) are not happy that he devotes so much energy chasing a woman instead of focusing on rooting out the traitor(s). But the longer things go one, the more it appears that the Dawn Caravan and the attacks on Oleg’s businesses and his rule are connected…

I think Elizabeth Hunter has created my favorite vampire world, with an engaging mix of romance and mystery. I love that there is a crossover with the Elemental Legacy series (Ben and Tenzin’s story arc), though I admit that I had mostly forgotten the details of Dawn Caravan, therefore the events around the kamvasa zana came as a surprise to me. I also like how Hunter unobtrusively includes social issues like domestic abuse, uneven power dynamics within relationships (and how to work them out), how to conduct oneself when joining a community as a foreigner, and also questions about good government and bad government and why democracy is the best form of government. So even if on the surface this story is mostly romantasy and has nothing to do with politics, on a deeper level the author manages to touch on important questions that are currently being contested in society at large.

Warning: this is not the conclusion to Tatyana and Oleg’s story, but an interesting part in their journey. Also, they do not really end up together, both of them having their own huge responsibilites. Hence the title of the review (also, it is the favorite saying of Tatyana’s mother, who cultivates a somewhat dour outlook on the world). It will be interesting to see if and how Tatyana and Oleg manage to pursue their relationship in the future.

This review was originally posted on Books of My Heart

Review copy was received from Author, Publicity team. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This part of the Elemental World and Crimson Oath runs parallel with Dawn Caravan, which is Ben and Tenzin's story.  I read Dawn Caravan when it was released and went back and read a bit of it again when writing this review.    Elizabeth Hunter did an amazing job of entwining the stories.

In Crimson Oath,  Oleg is busy trying to locate Tatyana, as well as dealing with shipping issues. He narrows down the culprits but has to decide what to do.  He also eventually finds Tatyana and decides to court her.

Tatyana has stayed as long as she can with the Fire King being trained by Kato. Now she has to find somewhere else.  She decides to go on the kamvasa, which is the summer caravan of the Poshani people.  They have three terrin (rulers) Radu, Kezia and Vano.  Tatyana takes this time to relax, think about what she wants, learns to speak Poshani and befriends the human women who cook the meals.

Something is decidedly wrong as they come to the end of the season and the Vashana Zata.  That only happens once every one hundred years.  The three terrin may continue or new terrin may be chosen.

Tatyana notes that there are new guests Rene a French man, well known as a thief.  Then Ben Vecchio and Tenzin arrive, who are also known as thieves.  Oleg is also there courting her.   Ben tells her to be watchful as things may be dangerous.

I really enjoyed Crimson Oath so much. Tatyana grew in her young vampire skills and worked to find a place where she would feel at home.  She did not want to just go to Oleg and let him make all her decisions or be defined by him.  I admired her so much.  Oleg also showed some patience and maturity in spite of being used to being powerful and in charge.  I felt better about them possibly becoming a couple.   Now I'm very eager for more.

Return to the Elemental universe with this brooding, evocative continuation of the story of the Firebird and the Wolf- a story steeped in power, betrayal, and blood. 4.5 🌟s

After the brutal domino of events in Blood Mosaic, both Tatyana and Oleg’s lives have changed drastically. Tatyana is now a fledging vampire in hiding working to control her blood lust, explore her amnis over water, and to navigate her future in the vampire world…without returning to the enthralling fire vampire that changed the course of her life. The foundation of Oleg’s empire was shaken by all that has taken place- his daughter’s betrayal and the deaths and mayhem that ensued. There appears to be more betrayal on the horizon, but Oleg is driven by the need to find his Wolf and bring her back to him. Tatyana haunts his waking thoughts, as well his dreams, and he won’t stop hunting until she returns to his side.

Crimson Oath is a superb continuation of Tatyana and Oleg’s story. The layers continue to build, and the level of nuance and description is near perfection. Both Tatyana and Oleg continue to grow as characters. Tatyana learns more and more of her new world and how she might survive, or even thrive in it. Oleg continues to be surly and controlling, but begins to understand that sometimes a little give is needed. Tatyana and Oleg’s encounters continue to be scorching- verbally, emotionally, and physically. I loved the addition of several of the new to this book- but not necessarily to this world- characters. And despite some of the- ahem- drama, the Dawn Caravan sounds like a dream. Can we book a trip now?

If you enjoy strong characters and steamy romance, I urge you to read Blood Mosaic and then immediately follow that up with Crimson Oath. Elizabeth Hunter is absolutely a master at building a story and making you fall in love with the characters and their world.

Dear EH, I have one small request though. Can we have more Oleg with a battle axe, pretty please?

Many thanks to Elizabeth Hunter and Valentine PR for the opportunity to read this in advance. This is my honest and voluntary review.

The second book in the Wolf and Firebird series with the story picking up one year on but it’s barely the blink of an eye for a vampire. Tatyana Vorona, after her escape from ancient fire vampire Oleg Sokholov has been offered sanctuary in the harem of the fire king Arosh, where she has been coming to terms with the reality of her new life as a water vampire, learning to control her bloodlust as she navigated intricate vampire politics without a sire to guide her but the deep resentment she feels towards Oleg holding him responsible for the loss of the ability to have children or ever feel the sun on her face again showed no sign of letting up. But Arosh’s hospitality was wearing thin, and she had to decide her future. Oleg meanwhile had become obsessed with reclaiming his little wolf.

Crimson Oath was a fantastic blend of paranormal and supernatural mystery that grabbed my attention from the first page. The world building was first class especially the Poshani Kamvasa which will be familiar from a previous book, The Dawn Caravan that spends months traversing Eastern Europe transporting its vampire guests in complete secrecy and safety for a price with the human Darigan looking after their guests during the day while the vampire Hazars guarded them through the night in a true symbiotic relationship and where Tatyana felt an immediate kinship with the people. But underneath the romanticism of this Utopia something was off with undercurrents bubbling away that could have implications for Oleg and his businesses. With a fast-paced plot full of twists, turns and intrigue, Elizabeth Hunter has woven a magical story. Tatyana’s personal growth as she strove to find her place in a world she’d been thrust into against her will, grieving the loss of her humanity while coming to terms with her immortality was fabulous along with her slow burn romance with Oleg proving that water and fire can co-exist and that she will be a force to be reckoned with.

Note this is book 2 of a series and cannot be read as a standalone. Book 1 is well worth the investment to devour before diving into book 2. (Book 3 currently in development)

**********************

After getting sucked alllll the way in to Blood Mosaic, the opening book of The Firebird and The Wolf series, I have been practically feral in the wait for book 2, Crimson Oath. I can assure you that this book absolutely exceeded my expectations.

The author continues her legacy of weaving tension, banter, yearning (omg the YEARNING!!), and the slowest and hottest of slow-burns known in any realm.

Oleg and Tatyana continue their version of a cat-and-mouse chase, but do not mistake Tatyana for a mouse. She is cunning and brilliant, always a few steps ahead of Oleg in his hunt to capture her to bring her home to him. "She’s nothing you want and everything you need", summed perfectly by his brother Lazlo. Oleg cannot stay away, fueled by the pull of the challenge that this newborn water vampire presents, all while falling more deeply into her thrall.

Don't get me wrong: Oleg is still the controlling alphahole that we know and love from Book 1. But he is being softened from the heart outwards by his growing love for the sassy strong-willed independent Tatyana. In turn, she is realizing that it's okay to open her heart just a smidge to accommodate the infuriatingly relentless vampire lord who wants her for her mind as much as her heart.

I'm not sure I breathed during the last few chapters of Crimson Oath, at points slamming the book on my lap with numerous "oh my GAWD!!"s.

Slow burn, he falls first, vampires, billionaire and employee, strong intelligent FMC - this book has it all and more.

My gratitude to the author and Valentine PR for an early copy of the book. I put my life and family on hold for this book and have zero regrets. Can hardly wait for Book 3 to drop in 2026.

"This is your dance. Your life will be long, milaya. My life will be long. Right now this is your dance."

I am new to Urban Fantasy but have found I enjoy it, especially when it's written by Elizabeth Hunter. She takes so much care to build the world and network of these vampires, from their enemies to their allies and every shady being in between. Occasionally, because of my newness into this arena, these intricacies were harder for me to follow, as Oleg's network is so big but, I know that Elizabeth writes everything for a reason and my eyes were opened at the end of this book!

Oleg was still Oleg in Book 2 of The Firebird and the Wolf, obsessive, controlling in all the right places, and rather smitten for a man with a big bad reputation. However, in this book, you got to see a little bit more of the intimate love he has for Tatyana and his willingness to cede his internal power struggle to give her control and allow her to make choices. I really enjoyed seeing that side of him and the new level it brought to their bond and relationship.

Tatyana's road to self-discovery of where she fits in to life as a new vampire was mixed with her human traits that I loved, making her a unique kind of vampire. I enjoyed seeing her more human emotions as she connected with the Poshani but, her bite and grit when it came to standing up for things and vampires she found unjust. In this book, she blossomed but kept some of her previous character into her new life and I loved how Oleg appreciated that. Their chemistry was just as hot as always, if not more so this time around!

I obviously need to go back and read the previous series because I loved so many of the side characters in this book; however, I think my favorite is Oleg and his close group of confidants. They aren't afraid to give each other crap and it's fun to see that humorous side of them.

Well, it looks like I never pressed “Post” when I originally wrote my review, so here we go again!

Crimson Oath picks up about a year after the events of Blood Mosaic. Tatyana has run off after being turned and Oleg has spent the entire time looking free her mother and trying to find Tatyana and convince her to come back to him…because he is down bad for her. She’s got it bad for him too but her stubborn pride won’t let her readily admit or act on those feelings. Did I want to grab Tatyana by the shoulders and shake the absolute shit out of her numerous times? Yes, yes I did. Did I understand why she kept running from this hot, rich, all powerful vampire that would literally give her the world? Also yes. Having everything you’ve worked for and everything you thought you could have ripped away from you is a lot…which Oleg understands. Elizabeth has a really great way of writing male characters that are mature and understanding enough that their brand of “possessive male” isn’t psychotic and toxic, it’s respectful but still gets the point across to others that you know, that’s his girl or whatever.

On top of the whole back and forth with Tatyana and Oleg trying to figure their situation out we also have side plots involving some sabotage within Oleg’s company and some bad behavior amongst the Poshani/Dawn Caravan where Tatyana goes to hide out from Oleg for 6 months. We see how these characters interact without each other much more in this book so we see more of their individual personalities. The last quarter of this book really picks up. All the storylines come together and some crazy stuff happens that I did NOT see coming. There are a few cameos from familiar faces people may recognize from previous books, but the biggest surprise was what happens between Oleg and Tatyana and what happens to Tatyana while she’s at the Dawn Caravan. I can’t even begin to guess where book three is headed after everything transpired.

As always, Elizabeth’s storytelling had me entertained from start to finish. Her characters continue to be multifaceted and complex and the blending of the real world locals and magical/supernatural elements is seamless. I know I’m in for a treat whenever I sit down to read a book by Elizabeth and I’m extremely thankful to her and Valentine PR for the ARC opportunity!

I’m absolutely in love with Oleg and Tatyana and was so excited to be going back to their story. While this book was a little slow for me in the beginning, I enjoyed it thoroughly and feel so excited for what’s to come.

Crimson Oath picks up where we left off in Blood Oath. Oleg is searching for his lover Tatyana, and she’s doing her best to evade him. There is a lot more political intrigue in book two and we’re introduced to a lot more vampires, clans, and their way of life. I do think I struggled through the first half of the book because of this, and it was hard keeping everything straight.

That political aspect weaves throughout the book as there’s suspicion that a vampire is planning a coup, and Oleg is determined to figure it out. As he gets closer to finding information, the vampire he believes is involved with deaths and truck hijacking’s is near where his beloved Tatyana is “hiding”. Of course he wants to get Tatyana back because she is “his”, but this is the perfect opportunity to also find answers and see something bigger is at play.

I was so hoping for Tatyana and Oleg’s reunion sooner in the book so please know when you get into the story the burn is SLOW. The first half of the book is pretty in depth of the bigger story and politics in the vampire world. However, the banter and witty back and forth that was so present and such a lovely part of book one definitely comes into play and I found myself falling more in love with Tatyana’s character and heart and Oleg’s selflessness. Tatyana finds her strength in leadership and shows kindness and resiliency. Oleg reminds her of the wolf inside and the power that others see in her. She will definitely prove herself in book two, and will find many friends and a family along the way.

I’m so excited to see where book three takes us.

Crimson Oath-The Firebird and the Wolf Book 2 picks up a few months after the emotional ending of Blood Mosaic, the first book.
Oleg is on the hunt for Tatyanna while dealing with intrigue, deception and betrayals of the worst kind within his businesses.
Tatyana is still in Arosh's territory and still coming to terms with her immortality. She misses her mother and her humanity while trying to learn how to be a vampire. She knows that Oleg will not stop until he finds her, so she makes the decision to join the kamvasa for six months.
She finds some solace there. You get a behind-the-scenes look at the community of the inner workings of the Dawn Caravan. As it is Tatyana's personality to want to learn while observing from the fringes, she finds pleasure in the humans that embrace her.
As is usual for Ms. Hunter, Crimson Oath is a story that is layered with complexities, betrayals, politics and heartbreak. All of that is surrounded by a love story. I enjoyed seeing some familiar faces and also some new characters that I hope we will see more of. {Mika? Radu? Rumi? Samson? Madina?}
I find Oleg to be one of the most complex characters Ms. Hunter has created. He has been ruthless, vindictive and spoiled while also being loyal, patient and surprisingly vulnerable at times. He is a vampire that is comfortable in his own skin.
Tatyana hates the vampire politics, small talk and condescension. In Crimson Oath she is finding her strength in her isolation. She craves a "normal" family and has found that amongst the Dawn Caravan community.
The ending was perfection. Oleg can be patient. After all, he can wait as long as he needs to.

"there is innocence in the world, and it deserves to be protected. For no other reason that it exists."

Bloody brilliant.

I am the biggest fan of Elizabeth Hunter. I own just about all her books and enthusiastically reach for the next one that comes out. Having said that, though, I sat on this for a bit after the release date to mull over how I wanted to review it.

I love the fierce independence that Tatyana displays through the book, making sure her mother is safe and cared for and wanting what's best for HERSELF despite being turned into a vampire against her will. I thought her character development was fantastic and she showed a lot of growth and maturity as the book goes on. Her relationship with the Poshani, both human and vampire, is well crafted and her arc with that group is one that I can't wait to see continue in the next book.

But. Oleg. I can't say that I liked Oleg very much in this novel. I found myself turned off of his character by his possessiveness and obsession with Tatyana, despite others warning him against it. It bothered me how he couldn't take no for an answer. The way he interacts with Tatyana doesn't sit well with me, and I'm hoping the next book has more of a balance between hot and heavy, romance, and want/need.

Does the way Oleg's character acts play an important role in the story? Absolutely. Was that particular character arc for me? Not really.

I'm still looking forward to how this trilogy ends and seeing the way the characters development and interact in the last book, but this one wasn't one of my favorites.

Crimson Oath: A Vampire Fantasy Novel(The Firebird and the Wolf Book 2) by Elizabeth Hunter picks up with Oleg still wanting Tatyana. He is also dealing with the issues that are going on with his company. As long as Oleg has been on the earth, this may be the first time he is really in love. Tatyana is also having an internal battle with herself. Her biggest battle she is having is reconciling with the fact that she is a vampire. She never wanted this life, and the adjustment is taking a toll on her. Her sire is dead. She is with other vampires that are not her family. They don't understand what she is feeling, and she is struggling with her feelings regarding Oleg. I do have to say that because book 1 came out in December of 2024, I struggled due to the length of time between the two books. However, once I got into the rhythm of the story, I really enjoyed it. The struggle Oleg and Tatyana had trying to reconcile their feelings they had for each other kept me entertained. Tatyana's struggle trying to find her way in her new existence took her to a place that gave her some time to get some perspective. This story was a nice segway between this book and the next book. The ending definitely has me looking forward to the next book. The biggest drawback is book 3, which doesn't come out until the summer of 2026. Regardless, this book was a 4 star read for me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️/ ️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Welcome back to the amazing world that Elizabeth Hunter created in the Firebird and the Wolf series. Crimson Oath is book two and brought back everything we loved in book one. As our FMC continues her transition and her battle between keeping her humanity and giving into the vampire urges. Elizabeth has written a beautiful story that explores how someone adjusts to a change they never asked for.

The romance is top notch in this story! Oleg and Tatyana continue to struggle with their desire for each other. Oleg continues his fight for dominance over her, but Tatyana is still the strong, independent woman she once was and won’t allow him to. The complexities that Oleg brings to this story had me invested in the story and needing to know what would happen next.

Elizabeth has once again created a world that is rich and dripping with detail. Her world building talents shine bright. Vivid imagery brings this world to life and pulls readers into the universe with ease. The book is fast paced, the storyline complex but easy to follow, and the character development is chef’s kiss. I absolutely loved reading this story and can’t wait for the next installment.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

This was precisely what I hoped for: a taunt, exciting tale of the building romance between two extremely strong-willed characters. One ancient, one newly turned. One from ancient Rus, a land of violence and savagery. One a product of our time, but with the inherent backbone of steel her mother had bred into her. One is still holding on to ancient ways of doing things and shunning modern conveniences, and one who can write code like her mother tongue and cannot imagine going without electronic devices. Their story was so much fun to read. Thank you, Elizabeth, for not making it easy for them. There was mystery, bad guys, intrigue, and a host of enjoyable characters in a beautiful setting that was wild and romantic. One of the best things about this novel is the parallel novel Dawn Caravan that features the characters Ben and Tenzin. Many of Elizabeth's fans have read (and loved) that book, and now seeing it from a different perspective has made this story doubly enjoyable. I see this becoming a tandem (?) parallel (?) read. No matter what you call it, this will be reread.

Oleg and Tatyana are a different couple from Ben and Tenzin or Carwyn and Bridget. I don't see them solving mysteries and battling the crazies. They will rule, and they will do it well.
