Scorched By Shadow

Rate this book
They forged an unlikely alliance. What they created was pure fire.

Luca Bianchi is the crown prince of the Italian mafia—cold, ruthless, and untouchable. Sasha Petrova is the Bratva’s deadliest weapon—a daughter raised in shadows, trained to kill without question. When betrayal shakes both of their worlds, they’re forced into an uneasy alliance that neither of them wants… and neither of them can escape.

What starts as a fragile truce quickly ignites into something far more dangerous. Passion. Obsession. Devotion.

But in a world built on blood and loyalty, love is a risk neither of them can afford—and the price for falling might be death.

He was born to be her enemy.

She was bred to be his killer.

But some fires are impossible to quench.

Scorched by Shadow by Emerie Quyen is a gripping dark fantasy romance that perfectly blends danger, desire, and emotional depth. From the first page, the author pulls readers into a world where light and shadow constantly battle, not only in the landscape but within the hearts of the characters themselves.

The story thrives on its intensity. There’s heat, yes—but there’s also heart. Quyen excels at creating characters who are flawed, vulnerable, and real. The heroine is fierce yet relatable, carrying both strength and scars. Her journey is as much about survival and self-discovery as it is about passion and connection. Opposite her, the love interest is complex and magnetic, walking the fine line between protector and temptation. Their chemistry is electric, with a slow-burn intensity that crackles on every page.

What sets this book apart is the balance between romantic tension and immersive world-building. The setting is lush and atmospheric, with a sense of mystery that enhances the story without overwhelming it. Readers are given just enough detail to visualize the world while still being invited to use their imagination to fill in the shadows.

The pacing is excellent, with just the right mix of action, intrigue, and intimate moments. Each chapter feels purposeful, building toward a climax that satisfies while leaving you eager for what comes next. Quyen’s prose is vivid yet fluid, painting scenes that are as emotional as they are visual.

Another highlight is the themes woven throughout—identity, resilience, and the power of embracing both light and darkness. These give the book emotional weight beyond the romance and make the characters’ arcs feel rewarding.

Final Thoughts:
Scorched by Shadow is a stunning entry in the dark fantasy romance genre. It’s a story that will keep readers turning the pages for both the heart-stopping action and the heart-melting connection between its leads. Emerie Quyen writes with passion and precision, delivering a tale that is as evocative as it is unforgettable.

Highly recommended for readers who love intense, atmospheric romance with a perfect mix of heat and heart.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fiery, Dark, and Utterly Addictive

If Chasing Midnight drew me in with its tenderness and emotional depth, Scorched by Shadows grabbed me by the throat with its intensity. This time, the FMC is nothing like the sweet, innocent heroine from book one—she’s sharp-edged, dangerous, and deliciously dark. And I loved every second of it.

Sasha Petrova is a weapon honed by the Bratva, and Luca Bianchi is the cold, calculated heir to the Italian mafia. They should have been sworn enemies, destined to destroy each other. Instead, betrayal forces them into an uneasy alliance—one that burns hotter and fiercer with every page.

The chemistry between these two crackles with danger and desire, making every interaction a battle of wills and a spark of temptation. The plot is tight, the tension is relentless, and the stakes feel impossibly high. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down.

By the final chapters, I was rooting for Sasha with my whole heart, and the ending leaves just enough open to make me desperate for a third book. If you love your dark romance with lethal heroines, ruthless heroes, and a romance that could either save or destroy them, this one delivers in spades.

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Emerie Quyen really said “mafia romance but make it sharp, tender, and emotionally wreck me” and she delivered.

Our FMC? Brutal, loyal, independent. She doesn’t just love, she bleeds, kills, and suffers for the people she cares about. And Luca… that infuriatingly perfect mafia daddy who chips away at her armor? I was eating that up mission by mission. Their chemistry was explosive, but the slow vulnerability had me feral.

“Something irrevocable has clicked in my brain and every fiber of my being now recognises that a piece is missing when her hand is not in mine.”

uhh sir… STOP. You have no right being this poetic and broody.

And Sofiya. My poor baby shattered me. Fragile yet fiery, just trying to protect her chaotic little world. Her tantrums (making mafia bosses take their shoes off, guarding her floor drawings) is just so cute to me. And istg that I cried on the train back home from work when I got to the part where they found out she could not speak Russian.

And when our FMC promised her :
“Auntie Come. For Sofiya, Auntie will always come” when she was held hostage, yeah, dammit I was sobbing.

Overall? Consider me obsessed.

eARC received for an honest review.

Right from the start, I knew I would love Sasha, the FMC in Scorched by Shadow. I was drawn to her character because she’s not the typical daughter of the Bratva. She was trained to be their “deadliest weapon.” Luca, the “crown prince” of the Italian Mafia, ends up allying with Sasha—quite the unorthodox pairing. But Luca is the one man who treats Sasha the way she should be. And sees her as a woman, not just a fighter.

Readers get peeks of Sasha and Luca’s past, which explains their hardened personalities. And to see their softer sides come out in different scenes, not just with each other, was well written. I liked how much of a mafia plot there was, and the spice between Sasha and Luca was good, too. Though Scroched by Shadow is a standalone, it is Book 2, and I may have understood the full context of Sasha and Luca’s alliance if I had read the first book.

Scorched by Shadow was such a good read! Reluctant enemies to lovers, grumpy vs. grumpier, and a mafia romance all wrapped up into one! Not to mention ✨spice✨.

I enjoyed the way things seemed to come full circle at the end. Luca takes care of Sasha in the beginning, and at the end she repays the favor. It was wholesome and heartwarming.

**I received this book as an eARC and am giving my honest review to give back to Emerie Quyen and team. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this experience ❤️❤️**

I was losing my taste for mafia romance because all that I've been reading lately was more of the same. Like all of them follows the same recipe. Then I got the flattering opportunity to get an ARC from Emerie Quyen and I enter this book almost on blind and belive me, It has been the most refreshing story, the chemistry, the slow burn, the most exciting and action-packed plot. A 5 stars book.

Can it get any better? I love how this book and its characters take an even deeper dive into the mafia world, yet despite all the problems that may arise they are all individually beautiful and I feel submersed into this rich dark world. I absolutely love this book and hope Mrs. Quyen doesn’t stop there because I can’t get enough!!!!

When I first picked up this book, I already had high hopes for it, mainly because of the book's title. For starters, this isn't one of those soft romance books where two people meet and ride off into the sunset, happily ever after. This book presents love, loyalty, and mafia relationships in a unique light.

It all started when Luca's sister was abducted. One day, in the middle of the night, Sasha made a deal with Luca: she would help him rescue his sister, but only on three conditions. Luca agrees, but this is not just a contract; it is sealed with blood so that no one can back away. In the Russian mafia, Alek becomes the leader of the bratva group and decides to make his twin sister Sasha the director of soldiers, which goes against tradition. This pact between Luca and Sasha is not just about them; it marks the beginning of a very long journey.

What I like most about his book is the worldbuilding; I could see myself in the scenes. Secondly, I like how fierce and outstanding the female lead is; she knows exactly what she wants and how to get it. And the third thing that stood out to me is how the relationship between Luca and Sasha progressed. I liked that they helped each other succeed instead of just abandoning their lives and chasing love. The author's writing style is simple and easy to understand. If you're looking for the perfect dark romance, accompanied by dangerous love, then this book is undoubtedly for you.

I don't read mafia romance, as a rule. I read paranormal romance, which, honestly can go hand-in-hand with these kinds of books. Most of them leave a bad taste in my mouth due to the nature of the relationships (the ones where I question whether or not the MMC(s) even like the FMC).

Not books by Emerie Quyen.

I loved the first book SO much, and the second is no different... Other than I have a little crush on Sasha.

All that aside, I love a badass FMC and Sasha truly delivers. She's the princess of the Bratva, daughter of the boss and twin to the heir of the Bratva crown. She's trained to be "The Shadow," a silent, feared, and deadly assassin.

Her relationship with the new don of the Italian Mafia is not at all what I expected out of a mafia romance book. No one's a bully, there is no thinly veiled abuse, no kidnaping, no grape. The book has darker themes (and kept me on the edge of my seat), but the passion between these two is anything but dark. It makes you feel good even as they navigate the ruthless world they were both born into.

- Bratva Assassin FMC x Mafia Don MMC

Thank you, Emerie Quyen and Epica Books PR for providing me with an eARC of this book 🤍

It took me a little while to get into this one, but once it hooked me, I couldn’t put it down. The vivid writing and raw emotion pulled me in and left me wanting more.

I thought the Italians + Russians + Irish alliance was interesting. Each side character supported the plot well and the found family aspect rang true through the end. Sasha and Luca are a pair that nobody expected, but I couldn’t get enough. I loved the grumpy v grumpier vibes from them and how they complimented each-other so well. I enjoyed how everything pulled together in the end. Highly recommend this one!

Thank you to Emerie Quyen for allowing me early access to Scorched by Shadow!

While it is the second book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone but I do recommend reading Chasing Midnight first to get the full backstory for the characters.

That being said, it was great read. Most of the mafia novels I have read have been Italian centered so it was nice seeing different mafia outfit take center stage. Seeing the progression of Luca and Sasha's relationship was cute and very steamy. We also get insight into the past that has shaped Sasha and her brother, Alek. And we get to see how alliances made in the first book pay dividens in this book.

Its an enjoyable ride from start to finish!

I was met with chaos.... Girl it's just to carry you because you are freaking injury there's nothing there that reduces your "dignity" or gives you "humiliation"
That name stubborn witch, very much accurate....I don't know who is grumpier between the both of them

I was like 👀🔍🧐 where did that kiss come from 😂 but damn the tattoo on his back 😌
I feel like this story wasn't it for me and I think it is because I didn't read book one

so I am definitely going to give it a second try after I read book one just so I can be very familiar with the storyline

Their banter? Electric.
Their connection? Forbidden.
Their love? A war neither of them expected to lose.
I totally loved Sasha Petrova, maybe I have a think for Bratva’s🤭…… Luca Bianchi and Sasha Petrova are Grumpy x Grumpier🖤

Quyen masterfully explores obsession, loyalty, and devotion in a world that doesn’t forgive softness. Every chapter simmers with suspense, and the morally grey characters only make you fall deeper into their chaos…🔥

This book was so amazing!! I loved that even though I started with the second book, the author didn't leave anything out. I personally wish I would have read the first one only because it would have given more depth to this book!

This is how you write a dark slow burn mafia book!!!! MUST READ!

Scorched By Shadow is a fantastic story of found family and loyalty.
Sasha is a fierce fighter, trained to kill, but when she forms an alliance with Luca, the Italian Mafia prince, he sees her for the caring woman she truly is not just the enemy or weapon she was molded to be.

This book is filled with incredible supporting characters, a strong storyline, and plenty of unexpected twists. I really enjoyed watching the characters grow and develop throughout the story it kept me hooked from start to finish.

Although this is book two in the series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone!

"Luca and I, we're like....gold, when it's forged in the fire. Separate, we are already forceful, hard. But in the flame, we bend and meld and fuse into one, creating something fiercer and more lasting in the joining. Luca welcomes my fire Alek, and he's the ice that soothes it."
Emerie Quyen has done it again! I was excited to read about Luca and Sasha and it did not disappoint.
This is the 2nd book in the Sin and Shadows series and while it can be read as a standalone, it's best to read Chasing Midnight first!
Luca is the Don of the Italian mafia and he has just entered into an alliance with the newly appointed Pakhan, Alek, of the Russian mafia. Luca agrees to help Alek and his twin sister Sasha, after they helped save his sister from their monstrous father.
Sasha has been traumatized by her evil father and vowed one day to end him. That time has come and now her brother has become Pakhan. She will do anything to help her brother and that has forced her to become "the Shadow," a much feared fighter.
Luca was the perfect man for Sasha. Instead of trying to mold her into the perfect woman, he meets her where she is. He values her and sees her as an equal. Most people see the cold and aloof side of Luca, but he shows us how loving he is in his pursuit to make Sasha his.
5 stars for Scorched by Shadow!!!
