Guilt ravages me, swallowing me whole. It steals my sleep and knots my stomach. I was the princess, the perfect Granz heiress, but no longer. That part of my life went up in flames, taking my future with it.
What remains is a shadow, a girl with no future and a terrible secret. There's only one soul who knows the extent of my sins, and I can't shake his beautiful face from my mind. The memories of being near him that night are charged. They linger, but going after Pete is like trying to catch smoke in my hand.
The pull toward this sexy man is unreal, and that's what I keep telling myself—the Pete Ferro I saw that night doesn't exist. There is no poet, no philosopher, no artist. He's a player and I’m his newest toy.
Genre: New Adult Romance This story unfolds over multiple volumes Length: Approx. 130 pgs

I received an advanced review copy from the author for a honest review.
Are u kidding me??? One page?? Peter is only in ONE page of this book??? How can this be a series about getting his back story when he isn't even in volume two but for ONE page???
There are two ways a person could review this book. As part of the Ferro and Damaged series or as a stand alone. As a stand alone, I think this is a great coming of age story about Gina. As part of the Ferro and Damaged series, I'm a tad bit disappointed. What does this book add to the series? This book was not about Peter. I want to know HIS life before damaged. I thought that what this series was supposed to be about. This should be a dual POV book as we are missing a part of their story otherwise. Not sure how this book shows us how Peter was such a bad guy.
Now I'm not sure I want to post this review on Amazon during the release time. Why??? I honestly don't want my Amazon overall rating to be affected by fan girls bashing my review. The reviews are not to be rated on whether you agree or not. Just if the review was helpful. And if the review is a honest one, shouldn't we respect others viewpoints??? Just my two cents
Pete Ferro doesn’t make an appearance in this volume (that’s weird, because they’re so short) until the last paragraph. This was kind of boring. Gina is still feeling guilty about the rave in the first novella and all the problems it’s causing her father. We get to see what a slime ball her boyfriend Anthony is. I’m not sure how Gina can’t see it. But she’s portrayed as a naïve, good girl, so maybe she is that blind. On to the next installment…
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I've found that there seems to be one book in each of Ward's serials that I don't care for. LBD2 is that book in this series. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading the back story of Peter and Gina. However, I felt like Gina's character is weak in this part of the story. We know from reading the Damaged books, this is not the case. Gina questions everything in this book and doesn't take a stand against her father, against Anthony or even against Peter (although she didn't really get a chance). Ward writes such strong female characters in her books. These characters aren't without flaws, but they're strong in the soul. You really don't see that with Gina in this book and I found myself disappointed in it. Fortunately, from reading Ward's other serials, I have faith the next books will redeem Gina's character.
I would have also liked a snapshot of the Peter/Sydney dynamic. The premise of the first LBD book was for Sydney to learn about Peter's early life by reading Gina's journals. This book didn't have any of that as part of the story. I like to see it tied together.
Overall, the book is worth the read to get the story line, but it wasn't my favorite.
I have been a very long time reader of H M Ward novels - but the time has now come where I can not afford to read her series anymore. Paying 2.99 for a chapter has gotten to be too much. If I look at the arrangement series alone with 18 installments I have spent way to much and I have just decided that I am not going to support this type of writing any more. I would much rather pay $7-$9 for a full novel than to pay for a chapter.
Now for the review of the actual book - it was just ok - nothing jumped off the pages and made me scream this is awesome, I can't wait to have more. We all know that Peter was a player - he has confessed as much until he met Gina - we know that she changed him - if this new series is supposed to be about Peter then I would be happy but this book is more about Gina and that isn't what I was lead to believe this would be. I mean you read these to get an insight into Peter not Gina. I felt that the story drug in places. There were some finer points - Peter in the car with Gina after he saved her and him taking her home. But once again it leaves as a cliffhanger to hook the reader into buying the next installment
***I received this ARC for a honest review**** Part 2 starts right where 1 left us hanging. Gina completely intoxicated by the presence and kisses of Pete Ferro. Gina can't get him out of her head. She fantasizes about him during the day and dreams about him at night. However along with the dreams are also the nightmares. This book is about Gina and what has been going on with her and her daydreams since leaving Pete's house that night. She is all over on what she should do. Should she tell her dad about the fire? Telling her boyfriend about the flirting with Pete confuses her. She just wants an escape. She doesn't want to be the perfect daughter. She needs an outlet. She finally decides to take her best friend Erin on her offer of a night out dancing. Gina could always escape dancing. Getting to this new club, she realizes that it is a swing dance night. Beyond excited, she learns the dance, gets drunk and then has some guy start feeling her up. On the dance floor, she accidentally gets released in a spin. Instead of hitting the wall with her face, she breathes in the scent that will never leave her senses. Looking into those amazing blue eyes, is the man who haunts her day and night. Unable to say anything except stare at this gorgeous man, Pete says the words she only wanted to hear from this man only. "Mind if I cut in?" You are left dripping with angst waiting to see what happens next!! The sex God is back! Holly creates such want and need in her books that you are left craving more. Waiting for that ice water while in the desert. Need more Peter....and I guess Gina can come along for the ride too.
Ok so time for another quickie review for a quickie book. It says it's 121 pages but I think that's more filler than anything else. I think it was closer to 55+ pages but I digress. Anywho, this is the next installment in a new serial by H.M. Ward, who I love but sadly, I'm not so thrilled yet with this series. Life Before Damaged is a prequal of sorts to her Damaged series. It is supposed to be the diaries of the girl that changed young playboy Pete Ferro into the man we meet in the Damaged books. In the next installment, we get more of the weird diary chapter titles that have a time stamp and a cryptic title. We also are in Gina's head still, which is expected seeing it's her diary (kinda). In this chapter we get to view more of her family life and listen to her internal dialog about whether she should fess up to hosting the rave party that burned down her family's property, almost killed her and injured others (woe is me). Also for Ferro fans, there's a lot less of Pete, in fact we only see him at the very end for one sentance. This one is all Gina. It's mainly Gina trying to break out of her princess mold by secretly partying it up but being righteous in her pompous view of life, all the while being in a committed relationship to a selfish ladder-climbing cad of a boyfriend. She is a very wimpy character that doesn't have much of a spine. She lets everyone from Pete to her father to her friends to her boyfriend walk all over her. As you can tell, Gina gets on my nerves. The way the story is laid out, gets on my nerves. I can say more but I'll leave it there, you get the gist.
Life Before Damaged 2 gives readers a glimpse into the thoughts and feelings that Gina is experiencing. The turmoil, uncertainty and relationships that shape her life are unfolding within the pages of her journal. A journey of self discovery and the premise of love will lead Gina on a path towards her future.
After spending time with Peter, Gina begins to question her current relationship. The lack of passion she has with Anthony start her mind wandering about his intentions. Will this be a glimpse of their future together? They never seem to have time together, but Anthony spurns her attempts at affection. Is there something that Gina is no seeing in the relationship? Have thoughts of a secure future blinded her to what really is lurking beneath the surface?
The guilt over the warehouse fire still weighs heavy on Gina. The stress is resulting in nightmares that she just can’t seem to control. Each lie that is told to cover-up the incident snowballs into another. Building towards an explosion if the facts come out.
Another installment in Peter’s story that will pull you into the layers. Each chapter wrapping you into the life of another Ferro. In typical Ward fashion - we are left with a cliff hanger that will keep you guessing until the next installment hits your reader!!
I enjoyed this book in the series, we got to know more about Gina, her family, and my thoughts about her boyfriend were supported from this story. Anthony is a man that thinks he is better then all others, he doesn't act like he really wants to be with Gina, that he only cares what her father thinks, he is so not right for her. Gina continues to feel guilt over the fire and her time with Peter. I love Erin, how she tells Gina's father what she thinks, how she isn't intimidated by him, when she says about Gina getting laid, I loved the reaction this got from Gina's father, I could not stop laughing. There is a secret about Erin that we are yet to understand and can't wait to find out what it is. If it wasn't for her I don't think Gina would ever have fun. Now we see where the whole swing dancing thing began, I enjoyed reading this part, the sights and sounds she is experiencing, then the drink Gina gets when there and what she thought it meant at first is so funny. I liked how Peter was brought into this part of the story but I do wish there had been more of Peter throughout the book, can't wait for the next book.
So I'm finding these to be a little boring. I know there is this raging fire and it is climatic but I don't know I'm just not feeling the book. Gina is so naive and just really needs to catch a clue. Her hatred is unwarranted and it bothers me that she can't see past the name. In this book you can see little snippets of the Peter we know and not the reputation he has. This book was better than the first but still just not quite grabbing me. Ok here we go into #3. Did I forget to mention we are finally seeing the dancing...I love it.
It seems unbelievable to me that in this day and age a young woman can be so naive. The entire table scene with Anthony made me question Gina’s mental competency. When the Patty Duke reference was made it struck me odd that Gina didn’t see the similarities between a 1960’s sitcom and the life she was living. She can be innocent and still have active brain cells.
firstable we supposed to see Peter knowing more about his issues but we stack in Gina guilty morals Anthony is look like he doesn't care about Gina he looks like he just used her for money and the events are so fast anyway im ready for more
More of Gina’s life is revealed. You get to see more of their personalities and how Gina fell in love with Swing Dancing. And her and Peter keep running into each other. Well written quick read.
While we didn't see, hear or read about Pete in this segment until the last page, he is always in the back of our minds! Poor Gina always seems to run into him at her most vulnerable times. The next segment should be interesting.
Life Before Damaged Volume 2 ***A Ferro Family Serial by H.M.Ward*** Prequel to Damaged 1&2 by H.M.Ward (((ARC Review)))
Spoiler Free!
Thanks to Holly Ward for the chance to read the ARC for Life before Damaged volume 2!
This was a great continuation of Life Before Damaged! Volume 2 focuses more on Gina's character as a whole: the wealthy and materialistic lifestyle she was raised up in, the "princess" she is now, the internal stuggles she has with trying to find herself outside of her parents perfectly constructed world they brought her up in, the not so perfect relationship she has with her boyfriend (they have an interesting "relationship agreement"...do ppl actually write up "relationship agreements"? Apparently they did!), and much much more. She's realizing that she isn't just this uptight, pampered women. She is trying to be more independent and make her own mistakes.
Unfortunately, the one mistake she made in Life Before Damaged volume 1 might come back to haunt her. Can she live with the consequences? Peter Ferro is basically non-existent in this volume (except in Gina's thoughts of course tehe) and shows up right at the end :'( Sad panda! But with that being said, we needed this volume to learn more about Gina's internal struggles and to learn why and how her and Peter ended up together in the first place. There's clearly more to her than the "princess" her parents created. I can't wait to see how their relationship unfolds!
Can't wait for the next volume!!
4 Mystery Ferro Stars!
Suggested reading order: Damaged 1 Damaged 2 Life Before Damaged 1 Life Before Damaged 2 (release date TBA) Life Before Damaged 3 (release date TBA) Life Before Damaged 4 (release date TBA) Life Before Damaged 5 (release date TBA) Life Before Damaged 6 (release date TBA) **Total number of volumes unknown. 6 volumes are planned, but 10 possible**
Gina is still under the Ferro spell and waiting for her clothes. I would have mixed feelings too if Ferro made a move on me and then at the last second decided to leave the room and leave me hanging there. Gina figures it is for the best because she feels like she has cheated on her boyfriend Anthony just by letting Ferro weave his flirtatious magic over her.
I have to say Gina is just like any other girl in her early twenties looking to find who she really is. Her parents expectations have always been high for her and she hates to disappoint them. The problem is that they have always paved the way for her, made all the decisions for her, so now that she is maturing, she is second guessing her life choices.
Motherly advice Gina, think again about this Anthony guy. Why do I get the feeling he is a douche bag just interested in what the Granz money can do for him? No wonder Gina is vulnerable! Even her boyfriend has been pre-approved by her parents based on their specifications and not based on mutual love...I am watching this dude. I think he is up to no good!
Guilt from the warehouse fire is still weighing heavy on Gina. With guilt comes the nightmares and the stress. This can lead to nothing good. Lying to her parents is not the best way to deal with this. You know she is going to be found out. Hasn't it happened to you? You go and do something wrong, try to cover it up, and SNAP! Somehow the world finds out and you are in worse shape than before!
I cannot wait to read part 3! Swing dancing, anyone?
Gina is struggling with what almost happened the night Peter rescued her from the fire. She feels like she has to tell her boyfriend what happened. Which she should I suppose. His reaction is completely different then I thought it would be. I feel like he doesn't even care about Gina. That he is just staying with her in order to keep her dad happy and keep his scholarship. Gina is pretty alone in all this and still living with her parents. She can't seem to get Peter out of her mind. In my opinion it is time to dump her boyfriend, get out of her parents house, and move on with her own life. Instead of doing what is expected of her and living for someone else! The whole situation with the fire has become way worse too. Will Gina be able to keep the secret from her dad that she threw the rave?
Peter showed his soft side when he walked away from Gina and she was ready to give it to him. It shows how he really is. I think their relationship would/will be explosive. Like it or not the Ferro's are a dangerous family and adding another heiress to the mix could lead to trouble. Gina's boyfriend needs to take a hike. I am convinced after this one that he does not love her and is simply there. I honestly think he's having a fling with someone at the hospital. There is no conformation of this but, I think its happening!
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. We know very little about Peter's past so answers will be great.
Stuck in a hard place of right and wrong, living life to the fullest or Being the follow rules and be the perfect daughter and girlfriend everyone seems to see her.
Good girl with a bad side should she let her wild and fun side out or be the person she was made to be and what her parents will except? Her life is getting tough since her last night out with Erin and almost dying and to make thing more difficult she can’t seems to get Peter off her mind she still feels a bit bruised after her rejection from him and not only that she’s starting to have problems with her boyfriend.
I like Gina she’s funny and sweet but she’s a bit airheaded, if she’s this amazing looking woman what man wouldn’t jump her bones and show her as much affection as she deserves in and out of the bedroom. Hell if a man made me agree with no Public affection, no toys, only missionary, open flirtation (see but no touch), and hardly ever talk to one another...? That man is totally getting something on the side no doubt about it or he’s gay lol
Overall amazing mini novel!
Great book Holly you did AmAzInG once again I don't know how you do but you know how to keep me on my toes begging for more.
Sadly disappointed Peter wasnt in it till the end but I love learning more about the quirks that make GINA. She needs to grasp her life by the balls and kick some butt!
While I pretty much love everything that H.M. Ward writes, I’m finding it harder and harder to write my standard reviews for individual installments in her serials, so I’m going to do this one a little differently and just talk about what I did and didn’t like.
What I Liked
*Learning more about Regina, her friends and family, and her relationships with them *Seeing Gina’s reactions and feelings toward the events in the previous installment *Her friend, Erin, and their night out (and Ricky!) *The ending
What I Didn’t Like
*Gina’s boyfriend, Anthony. Seriously don’t like this guy! *Not enough Peter! I love me some Peter, so I wanted WAY more of him! *The ending. It was a great moment, but then it ended! I wanted more immediately!
My only real complaint so far is that when I first heard about Life Before Damaged, I thought it was going to be from Peter’s perspective, so I’m a little disappointed that it’s not and that this installment in particular really didn’t have enough of him in it. But I trust H.M. Ward, so I look forward to reading more!
(I received an ARC from the author, but it expired before I got a chance to read it, so I ended up purchasing and reading the book.)
I didn't leave a review for book 1 because I wanted to wait to read one and two together.. in typical ward fashion both left off with cliffys, I'm mad at myself for starting it with out just waiting it out, but I couldn't possibly hold out any longer.. this book as well as one are really good, yet I'm not learning a thing about Peter yet, so far it's all about Gina, I thought her diaries were suppose to be about him, when will we hear about what a whore he was lol ;) and ginas boyfriend... yeah theirs something not right with him, he's a Damn snake and has no feeling for Gina whatsoever!!!! I think he's using her to get a hold of either her family's money or the resources her family can get him.. I'm keeping my eye on this bastard... but as per all ward books/ serials you truly will not be disappointed she has a way of hooking you under her Ferro spell and you can't possibly break free... again great job holly :)
I received an advanced readers copy for my honest review, but I would have given anyway. I really love all of the Ferro series, I love how Holly is giving us Peter's story before it all went wrong with Gina. I can't wait to read the rest of the story. I'm dying to find out if Gina tells the truth about the fire, and about how bad Peter really was. I stop reading whatever book I'm reading when one of H.M.Ward's books come out, I just need to know what is going on with her books. When one of Holly' s books are due to come out, I just can't wait to read them. If you haven't read any of her books, then you are truly missing out. Go purchase one, you will be totally hooked from the beginning. Thanks Holly, for giving me the opportunity to be one of the first to read your books, I really love them.
Who would of thought that experiencing so little of a 'Ferro' would still make such a great part to an already evolving story? Part two finds us delving into and enhancing the background of the relatively new characters. Gina is turning into another brilliant strong female lead. You can physically feel her fighting between what her parents want for her and what she would actually like to be. It has raised questions though How doe's Mr Granz know Erin so well? Why doe's Mr Granz want his 'princess' married off to someone who very obviously isn't good enough for her?
Here we go again.....Holly Ward doing what she doe's best !!!!! Sucking us in hook, line and sinker I for one am HOOKED !! roll on part 3
Regina's life is just so out of control, out of her control more like it. She's living her life for her family instead of herself. She's even dating a guy who her father, Reginald pushed into her life. And from the looks of it Gina's boyfriend is only using her so her father can pay his school tuition and fund his research. I'm sure Gina knows but she is refusing to see it. He will not get intimate with her or show affection unless Reginald is around to see it. Regina is feeing guilty about the warehouse fire and flirting with Peter Ferro. She has strong feelings for Pete, who knows her family owns the warehouse she had a rave at that caused the fire, but she also knows he is a player/heart breaker. She is lost and Has no idea What to do.
This is a fun quick read giving us more into Gina's life and relationship with her boyfriend Anthony. Gina is letting guilt over the fire and guilt for her reaction to Peter eat at her. She is torn between being the "princess" everyone expects and being herself. Anthony is indifferent to her it seems and it seems that he loves her father more than her. Gina goes out with her best friend Erin to a swing dance club. She has the time of her life and ends up dancing with a man who is getting a little too touchy. That is until she is spun into the rockhard chest of the one and only Peter Ferro. I can't wait to see what happens when he "cuts in".
Fantastic, amazing, heart-wrenching, and fabulous sequel; I received an ARC (Advanced Reading Copy) from the phenomenal, talented author H.M. Ward. Gina's guilt over her father's warehouse burning down is getting harder to hide from her family. Her boyfriend, Anthony, and soon to be fiancé makes time in his busy schedule for an important business meeting with Gina's father. Before Gina's father arrives, Anthony flirts outrageously with the waitress and sees nothing wrong with it. As soon as her father arrives, he moves closer to her and acts lovey dovey with her. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, engaging & captivating love story of Gina and Peter Ferro.
I received an ARC for Life Before Damaged 2 for my honest review. Life Before Damaged part 2 focuses more on Gina then the hot Peter Ferro, even though he’s mentioned in her thoughts. It’s more about Gina’s family, boyfriend Anthony and Erin. I love getting to know Gina. She’s a lovely character. In this part of Life Before Damaged I hate her boyfriend Anthony! What an ass he is! There wasn’t much of sexy Peter until the end of the book. I was hoping he would pop up in the middle of the book but he didn’t till the end. Holly has made this book funny and enjoyable to read just like all of her other stories. It’s a great story so far!
You know the saying "What would you do for a Klondike bar"?.. Well.. I'm afraid to tell you what I would do for more "Life Before Damaged"... H.M. Ward's amazing writing had me hooked from the first page. In LBD2, we get a very candid look into Gina's character and find there is more to her than money and a perfect princess persona. Just when she lets her guard down and starts to have some real fun, Pete re-enters the equation. At this point in the story, I thought I had my Ferro Addiction under control. Then I turned the page and realize it was the last one!! Now I'm totally jonesing for more!!
I received this as an ARC... I do like reading this series, because it's a long family of different tales. This particular story wasn't one of my faves. I like reading about Gia to get to know her as a person, and not just a memory... But am a wee bit disappointed that Peter isn't in the story himself until the end sentence, which is another cliffhanger. I can see how some would be disappointed upon reading this story, but also keep in mind that it is a little back story of a novel.. I'm glad it's been written and can't wait for more... I'm sure we're all just needing a little more Ferro lovins
I was fortunate enough to be given an ARC in return for my honest review. Part 2 of the Life before Damaged series was very good. It gives the reader a more in depth look into Gina's father, mother, and her boyfriend & her relationships with them. I am quite confused by the relationship with her boyfriend...I wanted to knee him in his groin & punch him in his face through the whole dinner & apartment scene. Lol. I very much enjoyed getting to know Gina & the other characters, just wish there had been a little more of Peter than just Gina's thoughts about him. Another cliffhanger that leaves me dying for more :)
Why why why why why???? It's the only question I keep asking myself when I read Hollys books since I'm more than aware of how addictive they are and how obsessed I will become until all are gone and I'm left like a junkie waiting on his next fix! There's no difference with this! Pete is oh so yummy and I love Ginas strangeness :D. It's bitter sweet knowing her fate before I even started reading though. I wanted to read this as a fix In between 'the arrangement' and now I am nearly finished and will be in the same state waiting on the next book of Peters ahhhhhhhh. I don't know if I love or hate this author, usually it's both!
