A Promise to Return

Rate this book
Knowing the man she loves is innocent, Sierra is desperate to return to Chad but James won't let go. When she learns that James was the mastermind behind her brother's death, she is suddenly a prisoner in the enemy's camp. Defying James and her father, she breaks away and flees to the Shadow Souls with hopes of absolving Chad.

Now that the Shadow Souls have Chad, they intend to make him pay for his betrayal, but not before using him as bait to get to long-time enemy, James Northrop. Chad's only hope is the timely arrival of Sierra and whether or not she can convince the Shadow Souls that he is just a scapegoat for her father's lies.

When the Shadow Souls learn that Chad was an unwitting pawn in Scott's death, war with James is at hand. Sierra must make her peace with turning her back on Chad and hopes he can forgive her for succumbing to the charms of the enemy. Chad must cast his doubts about Sierra and the Shadow Souls aside to have any hope of getting out of this war alive.

EXCERPT

As soon as James left for work, she called the numbers on her list, looking for someone who could direct her to Chad. She knew someone had to know where he was; but, all her calls were dead-ends.

Then, a new thought struck her father. He was in somewhat regular contact with the Shadow Souls because of her brother, and she could use the same front, too. She called her father.

“Hello, Sierra! How are you?”

“I’m doing well. I had a quick question for you.”

“Sure, fire away.”

“I was wondering if you could give me a number to contact someone in the Shadow Souls group thing—I don’t know what they are called. I’m trying to set up some sort of charity fund in Scott’s name, maybe a scholarship, and I’m wanting it to be directed toward some sort of specific demographic. I want to talk to them to see if they have any suggestions, since they knew him best in the last few years of his life.”

She could practically hear the smile on his face. “That sounds like a great idea. I’ll email you their information. I’m sure they would be happy to meet with you to discuss him.”

“Thanks, Dad. I think James and I are going to invite you to dinner later this week. Thursday work for you?”

“Sounds great. Looking forward to it.”

“Bye.” She hung up the phone and anxiously waited for the email from her father. Ten minutes later, she was on the phone with someone who knew Scott before he died, and she was invited to come down to talk.

No ending

Ok so that makes me upset. There was nothing ending at all. I think if the author went thru the tree parts, did some adding, more descriptions, add some love scenes and just add more of everything this could be an amazing book, also make Chad into a read man please.

I always feel bad rating a book low because I know authors work there butts off when writing, but this set was just,,,,,,,, not bad bad, but it needed to be better, I see the promise the characters and plot has but we are left with nothing at the end,
