For Melissa May, happily married to Gavin for the best part of thirty years, life couldn’t get much better. Her world is ripped apart when she discovers Gavin is HIV positive. The shock of his duplicity and irresponsible behaviour re-awakens a psychiatric condition Melissa has battled since childhood. Fuelled by rage and a heightened sense of right and wrong, Melissa takes matters into her own hands. Homicide detective Adam Stanley is investigating what appear to be several random murders. When evidence comes to light, linking the victims, the case seems cut and dried and an arrest is made. However, despite all the damning evidence, including a detailed confession, Adam is certain the killer is still out there. Now all he has to do is prove it.

This is the second book of a series of 4, and although they can all be read as standalone books, the author recommends you read them in sequence to get the greatest enjoyment.
This is what other people are saying about Positively Murder.
After the fantastic 'Behind A Psychological Mystery Thriller (The Adam Stanley Series Book 1)', I hoped Ms. Newbound would turn this into a series and quickly release Book 2. Once again the wonderfully talented writer does not disappoint with this lightening speed sequel. Deviating massively from the plot line of the first book, this sequel picks up not long after the end of Book 1, and whilst not focusing on a lot of the characters from said book, apart from Adam Stanley of course, they do feature along the way, which is nice to read as I was so invested in those characters, that it is nice to find out where they all are now. Whilst Book 2 is not as nearly as shocking, it is no less of a thrilling read, even though we know from the start who is dispatching the victims into early graves and why. The way Melissa dispatches said victims once again makes my over active imagination run riot, but I have come to expect that from Ms. Newbound, as she does seem to favour a 'little bit' of horror and gore. Saying the above, I really felt for the main character as empathy spilled from it's pages, whilst at the same time hoping her Husband got what was coming to him also. Does he get what is coming to him? Well the answer is.... buy the book and find out for yourself. I guarantee you will not be disappointed by the end on many counts! Congratulations to Ms. Newbound on a brilliant sequel. Here's to Book 3! - Mr Marco Lewis
Read this in a day, full of suspense, easy reading and you get into the storyline straight away which I like, a real page turner, just like the first book in this series.
Roll on Book 3 in the Adam Stanley series, I am now well and truly hooked on Netta Newbound and I can thoroughly recommend you will not be disappointed. - Carol Drinkwater
Loved this book. Totally different than I expected. It started off with a husband telling his wife he had HIV and obviously she was tested positive too. But what happens after surprised me. I loved the character Mel the wife and her actions changes the whole story. I have read one or two by Netta and have loved them. Well done - Helen Lancaster
Another brilliant book. Can't wait for the next one. Once again couldn't put it down, definitely recommend to anyone that loves a good psychological thriller. - A Brady
Wow, Netta Newbound has done it again. All I can say is the writer must have a very twisted mind, that's a compliment by the way. This is the second book in the Adam Stanley detective series, I thought Behind Shadows was brilliant but have to say that Positively Murder took my breath away at times. Netta is fast becoming my go-to author when searching for a good psychological thriller to read, she has a natural talent for keeping the reader perched on the edge of their seat.
When Melissa May, married to Gavin, for thirty years, learns that her husband is HIV positive her whole world comes tumbling down. She has no idea where to turn to next. The stress of the situation means an unwelcome condition rears its head and sparks a trail of destruction in their relationship. To say more would give the game away. Just read it, you won't be sorry.
Excellent storyline and great characterisation as always. Can't wait to read more of Netta's books.
Don't have any problem with bisexual people, this one has many many dark clouds over their heads. HIV, adultery and homosexuality. Takes place in UK, one families problems with all this, parts are so slow, couldn't connect with these characters.
I was asked to review this book for the Facebook group, THE Book Club (TBC). It's my favourite genre and I was looking forward to reading it. The story revolves around Melissa, who's mental health issues are alluded to at the beginning of the book, and her newly diagnosed HIV positive husband of 30 years. I didn't find any of the characters very believable; Melissa goes from happily married wife and mother for 30 years to psychopath in 24 hours. Gavin, such a loving husband and father that he's prepared to do anything for his wife, except get help for his sex addiction. Two daughters who neither parent seem to like. I found it all a bit contrived. Detective Adam Stanley is the world's most perfect man and relies on his always right, never fails him, intuition. His new squeeze, a victim of horrific sexual abuse and incest, is a beautiful and well rounded single mother. It just didn't feel that the characters had any realism in them. Trying to be positive the story was well written, clearly laid out and didn't require any input from me. It was fairly run of the mill crime. Will I be recommending it? Sorry, no. It didn't thrill me, it made me feel sad that people with mental health issues can be portrayed in this way in 2016
I would like to thank Helen at TBC and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest and open review. I have read books by Netta Newbound before and I know before I start that I am going to be taken on a thrilling roller-coaster ride. This certainly didn't disappoint. This was a different type of crime novel as we knew from the start who the murderer was. In some ways I could empathise with why she was committing the murders. It was interesting to read about Melissa's mind-set and how she was slowly being taken over. There were times when the hairs on the back of my neck were tingling with anticipation as to what would happen next. I loved this book and can't wait to read more of this series.
Gavin May returns home from work one day and tells his wife of 30 years that he is HIV positive and has been having casual relationships the entire time they have been married. Melissa is horrified by this revelation and her horror takes over and causes her to behave in an unusual way.
DI Adam Stanley is confronted by a series of unrelated killings which he must solve but its maybe not as obvious as others think it is going to be.
I haven't read the first book in the series but I will be going back to read it. This was a very cleverly written story which kept you guessing throughout. It also posed a lot of questions as to right and wrong and how people deal with different things.
I am grateful to THE Book Club on Facebook and the author for a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
Melissa May's world comes crashing down around her when her husband of 30 years tells her he is HIV Positive. As she learns the truth about her husband's infidelity she decides to deal with things in her own way. I loved this book from the beginning, as it's so well written and flows easily. However, I did have to suspend my disbelief as the storyline unfolded. The end petered out and seemed rushed, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this book and will read the others in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
This book was my first introduction to this author, and to Detective Adam Stanley. I really enjoyed this unique psychological thriller, which was full of suspense, strong characters, and lots of twists and turns along the way. It read very well as a standalone story, but I will definitely be downloading Book 1 in the series, to see what else I’ve missed! Thanks to TBC on FB, for a copy in exchange for an honest review, and the introduction to another great author!
This was my first book of Netta's I have read (won't be the last!) and although book two it works well as a standalone book. A very well written and constructed psychological thriller with lots of twists which threw me off course a few times as I thought it might have been more obvious. I was gripped from the first page. Highly recommended.
I found the concept was promising and should have been amazing . Sadly I found the characters were not really that believable and the story was rather slow . after reading other books by this author i was really disappointed
I read both this and the first in the series (Behind Shadows) today. Some of the same characters involved, but also new ones. Enjoyed very much. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.
Each time I read another book of Netta's, I wonder how on earth she is going to top the last one....but she does, every time! And this book is no different! This story evoked a mix of emotions; shock, sympathy, disbelief to name a few, but I absolutely loved every minute of it! It was fascinating getting inside Melissa's mind and being witness to how her condition affected and controlled her. A brilliant story!!
A short read and quite a good book, just not exceptional to me. Melissa happily married for 30 years finds out her husband is hiv positive and has passed it onto her. She finds out he's bisexual and been having one night stands with men for their whole relationship. Unprotected still. Melissa's mother starts to manifest and take over and then the murders begin. The link is Gavin, Melissa's husband. It Melissa's mum doing the killing though!
It ends too abruptly! Just like the last book I read of hers, the story is fascinating and all the loose ends are neatly tied up. But instead of a final chapter with the characters, or an epilogue, you end up with THE END. Kind of like a splash of cold water to the face. Soften up the end a little, Netta, and you'll get five stars every time!
DI Stanley has another set of bizarre murders that he is trying to solve. They caught a suspect, but the fact add up too perfect and have made the detective suspicious.
Second book in a page turning thriller. Excellent.
This is a great story. Very well written and one of the most amazing and interesting plots I’ve read in years. Just enough twists and turns to keep you on the seat of your pants, but done with a subtlety that intrigues you as you weave your way to the conclusion.
Melissa May world is shattered and she SNAPPED after learning that the love of her life, Gavin May has been living a double life. Love this book! Kudos to the author Netta Newbound for her creative writing style!
This book piqued my interest from beginning to end. It was well written and kept the reader on edge as to what would happen next. I am anxious to read more in this series.
Held my interest from beginning to end and I read it in two sittings. The characters and their individual stories - which are absorbing in themselves - combine to make a very exciting and enthralling read. I'll definitely be reading more from this author.
I liked the fact that the killer was a female and that she had a reason. Not that murder is ever justified, but you could understand her feeling hurt and betrayed and outraged at her husband's lack of remorse or willingness to stop his sexual encounters.
I couldn't put it down read it in a half a day it was great.this time I was able to figure out a lot before it happens .I like it because she doesn't down time about stupid details ever min is exciting
Second book from Betts newbound I've read.wow I'm so enjoying them and cannot wait for next one.all her books are on my wish list and I'm working my way through them all d until
I love a sick, twisted serial killer and this one had a doozy! And a great story behind the killings too. A great thriller and a great read altogether.
