Salted Caramel: and Barbed Wire

Rate this book
One Taste--you'll never want anything sweet again.

Both being equal--My Cupcakes and Brody Holt.

Lila Merriweather comes to Driftwood Bay, chasing her baking dream. She trips over a tattooed--maddeningly hot handyman with a magnetizing stare. He has a habit of turning every sentence into sin.

His biceps have a zipcode of their own. Offers to fix her lights. Instead--flips the switch--something deeper occurs--

Emotionally and Romantically.

Salted Caramel is a raw, tender, slow-burn romance laced with scars, sweetness, and just enough sin to keep you craving more.

Lila is guarded, fierce, and knows exactly how much she's willing to give… which isn’t much. Brody, though? He’s the kind of man who doesn’t just want her—he waits for her. He teases, tempts, and pushes her buttons just enough to ignite that fire between them, but never so hard that she breaks. And that balance? It’s magnetic.

Their chemistry is undeniable, but this isn't just about lust (though, fair warning: their intimate moments are explosive, raw, and will absolutely leave you breathless). This story is about trust—how fragile it is to offer it, how powerful it is when someone finally earns it.

What hit me hardest, though, was the unspoken brokenness that pulses beneath every interaction. Lila and Brody both know what it feels like to be haunted by the past—by betrayal, disappointment, and the fear that love might not be worth the risk. And yet, they keep showing up for each other in small, quiet ways that feel more intimate than any kiss.

It’s not just romance—it’s resilience. It’s the slow realization that love doesn't erase your scars, but it can make them easier to carry.

What I Loved:
🖤 The contrast between Lila’s walls and Brody’s patience.

🔥 The smoldering tension that snaps when it finally ignites.

🩹 How real trauma and emotional baggage are handled without ever feeling melodramatic.

💬 Duval’s writing—sharp in all the right places, tender when you need it most.

Final Thoughts:
If you’ve ever loved someone who made it feel safe to fall apart, or waited for someone to trust you with their pain, Salted Caramel & Barbed Wire will hit you in the gut—and in the heart. It's the kind of book that lingers, not because of how it ends, but because of everything it uncovers along the way.

This romance book is not only beautifully written but expertly delivered by an author I have just recently found and come to love. This is the perfect read that delivers all sorts of feelings. Lila and Brody are both amazing characters in this must-read book. I would have liked Tank to be a different breed, but it didn’t take away from the book I am just not a pit bull fan.
