Desert Thorns: A Bold Christian Contemporary Romance

Rate this book
HARLEY

I sport a track record of falling for the wrong men. But a monk? Yup, he takes the cake.

Loneliness has driven me to make poor decisions in the past, like dating a detective who turned out to be a killer. Now my ex is after me because I saw too much.

A monastery is the last place I expect to find refuge, let alone in the arms of a monk about to become a priest. But Brother Samuel—formerly Kingsley Grady, son of billionaires—is bent on keeping me safe.

Even when I decide to dig into my ex’s dark secret.

KINGSLEY

The forbidden fruit tastes sweet—until you reap the consequences.

When a woman scrambles over the walls of Saint James Monastery in the dead of night, I vow to protect her. A dicey move, considering Harley Raines is a vortex of allure and danger.

One weak moment spirals into a cycle of sin and crushing guilt. Though I’m steeled for repercussions, they prove far worse than expected. And then Harley’s ex unleashes his revenge on us for meddling in his affairs.

But what if the abyss is the place where I can finally grasp the fullness of God’s mercy?

Desert Thorns is a daring Christian contemporary romance about forbidden love, sexual immorality from a Biblical viewpoint, and God's mercy—with an edge of suspense.

Author's While Desert Thorns is a fade-to-black romance without explicit content, it is intended for readers 18+ due to mature themes. Content warnings are available under "Read sample."

4.5 stars!

Skylar has a masterful way of gripping me with her stories. The 2nd book in her latest series hooked me just as quickly as the first.

Kingsley is a monk preparing to become a priest. Romance is off limits—until a desperate woman climbs over the wall of the monastery. After witnessing a murder, Harley is running from danger. Seeking refuge at a monastery wasn’t the plan, but desperation leads her to St. James and into the arms of Kingsley. A forbidden romance ensues. As Kingsley and Harley struggle against forbidden feelings, sexual temptation also rises. Will they allow God’s grace and mercy to transform their hearts?

What I loved:
🩶Skylar’s writing
🩶STRONG faith elements
🩶struggling Christians and growth from the struggle
🩶 side characters (aka Rome)
🩶 faith conversations between MC’s and their friends/family
🩶tackles the “taboo” topic of sexual temptation and sin
🩶protective MMC
🩶strengthening brother relationship between Keaton (Book 1) and Kingsley🥹

What I wanted more of:
🖤 more focus on the character’s backstories. Some books with deep themes struggle with strong plot vs strong characters. This did both well, but there were character arcs that I wish were more fully developed. Kingsley suffered a MAJOR childhood trauma. It was mentioned briefly and I wish we saw more focus on how this affected him mentally/therapy/healing.

🖤 positive discussions about sex within marriage/God’s way. It did a great job of dealing with sexual temptation/sin/guilt + God’s forgiveness and grace. I wish there were also discussions of the gift of sex within marriage-desire and drive aren’t shameful when done God’s way.

This was such a great book! Very impactful for me. As I’ve adapted to life as a widow, my sexuality has become a hard aspect of widowhood. Put bluntly- it’s really hard to go from being married and sexually active to single and celibate. Though this story isn’t directed to me as a widow, it does deal with the struggle of sexual temptation-particularly as a Christian. I was deeply affected and encouraged spiritually. It’s such a beautiful story of God’s great grace and forgiveness—despite our struggles. I highly recommend it!

Thank you so much Skylar for the chance to read and review an ARC. I will definitely be adding a physical copy to my shelf as soon as it’s available! I am SO looking forward to the rest of the sibling stories (and Rome’s.) I’ve fallen hard for this family 🥹❤️

Yes I submitted an ARC application this morning, got the book this afternoon and read it in one sitting. RTC—but for now—-I needed this one. Thank you Skylar for writing so freely.

Writing this review is hard. Partly because the topics that Skylar covers are important. The fact that women struggle with lust, smut, and even porn is something that does need to be talked about. Struggling with sexual sin isn’t just a male thing. Women struggle too.

It’s hard writing this because I hate sin. I struggle to read a book where the characters struggle and fall into sin… a lot. It wrecks my heart, and I want to shake them and be like, “just stop. Don’t do it again.” But it’s not that easy, even though there’s always the promised way of escape.

Which caused me to think, do I hate my sin as much as I hate (as in, my heart aches because it’s sin, and I don’t want them to sin) reading about others struggling with it?

Harley and Kingsley’s story is filled with suspense, torment, redemption, and faith. This is not as easy read. Please, really consider the warnings at the start of the book.
Even for me, as a reader acquainted with these issues, someone who saw it all through a biblical lens, I did have to take breaks because it’s a heavy read. It’s redemptive, and shared the gospel, but it’s heavy and heart-wrecking.

Skylar, thank you for baring your heart and sharing this story with the world. Thank you for showing the love of Christ, all while creating real and relatable characters.

The best book Skylar has written so far. There are no words to describe how absolutely amazing this books is. The struggles Harley goes through are not something most people are comfortable talking about but Skylar did a wonderful job of making readers feel seen and like they are not alone and letting you know that you are never to far gone that God can’t reach you. Kingsley and Harley story is so beautiful. This book has it all romance, suspense, redemption. You will lose sleep over this book because you won’t want to put it down. You might even have a crush on a mafia guy. This book will make you laugh and cry. I truly hope that who ever reads this book will walk away with a new understanding that you are loved by God and never to far gone that he can’t reach you. #WOW

ARC Review: Desert Thorns by Skylar J. Kent

✨ A gritty love story, softened with the perfect touch of humor, proving you’re never too far gone for God’s mercy ✨

Synopsis
In Desert Thorns, Kingsley, a monk wrestling with hidden struggles, and Harley, a woman weighed down by shame, collide in a dangerous, unconventional romance, complicated by mafia intrigue. Suspenseful and intense, the story is ultimately about God’s relentless mercy and that no one is ever too far gone for redemption.

My Review
After loving Gold Digger, one of my all-time favorite reads, I couldn’t wait for this second installment. Being chosen for an ARC is always such an honor. From the first page, Kent grips readers with raw honesty, showing brokenness, temptation, and the consequences of choices—yet woven through it all is the promise of grace.

This isn’t “easy” reading. The characters are pushed to their lowest points, and readers feel the weight of sin and the sting of their decisions. Kent balances the darkness with her signature humor, offering relief that makes the story feel real, relatable, and comforting.

As an early reader, I found myself both challenged and comforted. Challenged, because the book holds up a mirror to the reality of human weakness. Comforted, because it whispers again and again: grace is real, forgiveness is possible, and redemption is never out of reach.

On a personal note, I believe the church hasn’t always handled purity well. Fear-based teaching left me carrying shame instead of freedom. That’s why I value books like Desert Thorns that face lust and temptation honestly, while also longing to see more stories show the beauty of intimacy as God designed it: holy, freeing, and deeply good.

✨ Even so, Desert Thorns is bold, messy, and ultimately redemptive—a faith-driven story that will stay with you long after the last page. ✨

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5 stars)

I read this book in one afternoon. Harley and Kingston's story is powerful and gritty with romance and suspense involved but is one of redemption. Kent tackles rough topics in Desert Thorns masterfully. Kent weaves faith elements into this story, and what Kingston finally realizes will have you take another look at what Jesus endured and the price He paid for us on the cross.

My goodness... daring and bold Christian romance is right! I've been reading Christian fiction since I was a teenager (so for 20+ years) and I can't say that I've ever read one quite like this one. I mean, a forbidden romance with a monk AND danger from the mafia!? Yeah, that's a first for me. This story was gritty and completely unexpected. Let's be clear-- this is a story about redemption and mercy... but we have to wade through the messy to get to the good stuff. Kingsley is a monk; Harley is a Christian... and yet both struggle with sexual temptation. You will see these characters (and other side characters as well) make choices that you absolutely don't agree with. They will sin and they will fall short over and over again. And they take us deep into those feelings of regret and shame and separation from God. We're taken to their lowest points, but it allows us to see their growth and more importantly, to see God working in those weaknesses. Regardless of how sin shows up in our own life, I think there is something about those feelings that is relatable to all of us to some degree... probably even more so for those that DO have those same struggles, which I think is why stories like this that tackle the messy while pointing back to God can be so important. Will this story be for everyone? Honestly, no. Like I said, it was intense and gritty and doesn't shy away from tough topics that you don't often see so blatantly in Christian fiction. This is all laid out well in the author's note at the start-- do NOT skip this as there ARE some topics that are not just uncomfortable, but major triggers as well. It's definitely not going to be for everyone... but if you don't mind stories that might be messy and uncomfortable, but remind us that we are never too broken for God? This one might be for you.

Desert Thorns is a Christian closed-door romance with implied and intimacy and fade to black between an unmarried couple. It deals strongly with sexual sins but does so through a Biblical perspective. It does also include topics that could be triggering for some readers to include mentions of .

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites. From the dedication that feels like a poem—reaching out and grabbing your heart before the book even begins—and throughout the story, there is so much compassion and mercy in the words.

I absolutely love how the details of this story work to make it even stronger. In their vastly different vocations, there is somehow similarity in what they have chosen to do, where they thought the Light could shine the most through them.

The content warnings might make you think this book is filled with darkness and lvst, but this story is not saturated in it. Instead, this beautiful story shines in the midst of struggle and unthinkable pain. Simply put, this story is not consumed by its themes. Desert Thorns is a thoughtful, meaningful novel that addresses mature and difficult subjects with hope, grace, love, and mercy, and these things are the heart of this story.

Regarding the humorous moments in this book, I loved the scenes sprinkled here and there—just enough to lift the story with the perfect amount because it does contain heavy topics. There was only one such moment that went a little too far for my personal comfort; I would have preferred it if a certain comparison wasn’t made. That said, it certainly succeeded in providing a point of reference to better understand the full extent of the situation.

Overall, I really liked this book and I love this series! I would read the next one now if I could 🖤 This book is as strong as the first novel in this series. They are fierce in the best way, boldly addressing difficult topics that some would avoid. And these subjects are included with care and prayer.

In conclusion, a well known part of a verse comes to mind: for such a time as this (see Esther 4:14).

Content:
-Strong faith themes | Biblical worldview
-Non-explicit | Mature themes (18+) | Fade to black/premarital s*x
-Full content warning with chapter numbers is available in the book
-Violence

A book that made me think and ponder the effects of sin in our lives.
Skylar J. Kent packs a punch with the message in this story! She doesn't mince words or sugarcoat serious topics.
It is labeled as Bold Christian Fiction and that is exactly what it is.
Though I don't struggle with the same sin in the way that these characters do, it made me contemplate those lurking corners in my own heart and how I can invite The Lord to root out sin in my own life.
A great story, not just for people who struggle with sexual sin and temptation, but anyone who has felt the weight of their own depravity.

Desert Thorns by Skylar J. Kent
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Book 2 in the series
He’s a Monk & She works at a club

About the Book:
He’s a monk and going to seminary. He’s working towards becoming a priest. She’s running from her ex after witnessing a crime and runs straight into his arms. Literally. While seeking refuge at the monastery, her and Kingsley(brother Samuel) grow close. They fight to keep their distance, but God has other plans

My Thoughts:
If you struggle with any sexual sin, please read this book. As someone who struggles with this and was addicted to smutty books, this book helped me see God’s love and forgiveness for his children if we ask. I struggled so much with guilt and even though God forgave me, it was hard to forgive myself. If you are looking for a realistic book that points you to God in times of temptation & trouble, then read this!!

Some Quotes from the book I loved:
“And about reading books with smut in them. The fact that still some of those sat on the shelf in my living room was proof of my disobedience to God. Smut was porn, just in written form rather than imagery. But it was all the same. It produced lustful pictures in my head and brought back memories of the things I’d done. And made me crave things God had meant for marriage.”

“First of all I think it’s important to know that, yes, the struggle and constant battle is extremely exhausting. But it shows that the Holy Spirit is at work in us. If not, we wouldn’t be fighting. We would be indulging without even thinking about changing. So the fact that it is a battle is a good thing.”

“His power is made perfect in our weakness.”

Lord, please forgive me for being so blind. For not appreciating what You’ve done for me. Despite knowing that I couldn’t earn my salvation, my heart couldn’t grasp it. It does now. Thank You for Your sacrifice. Thank You for the high price You paid for me.

That no amount of regretting, or flagellation with desert thorns, could blot out my sins. Only accepting Jesus’s gift could.

Incredible. If you struggle with lust or sexual sin in any capacity and want to see yourself represented in Christian fiction, this is the book for you. I enjoyed every second of this book. I felt every emotion under the sun while reading Kingsley and Harley’s story. I saw myself in these characters, and that’s what I love in a book. There were times I felt convicted and shed tears, too. That’s exactly what a great Christian fiction book should do, in my opinion. Depict the realities of sin without glorifying it and ultimately point to Jesus and the high price He paid to have a relationship with us. And boy did this book do just that! Skylar is not only a masterful story teller, but her work is rich with Biblical truth. And so much grace.

"The Lord's nearness doesn't change with our actions. He doesn't withdraw when we make mistakes, and He doesn't draw closer when we do everything right"

After reading Gold Digger, I was intrigued by this next book in the series. Even more, after reading the synopsis (forbidden romance with a monk and mafia intrigue), and it ended up surprising me. It was a quick but challenging read, addressing serious themes alongside faith elements like redemption and forgiveness

What I liked:
The author handles very real and contemporary topics, like smut in books. This book challenges the readers to reflect on your personal struggles with sin and your relationship with God. How do you move forward when God has forgiven you, but you haven't?

I liked that both main characters have very different backgrounds yet share similar struggles, reflecting the reality that everyone is vulnerable to fall and to sin.

I appreciate that the author showed things weren't instantly perfect and acknowledged real consequences. I feel it made it more real. Each person progresses at their own pace. It's a constant battle against the flesh, but God is with us so we can run to Him, lean on Him for strength and do better.

The community each main character has was great. It shows the importance on having those friends/people around you to whom you can talk to without being judge, but that they'll give godly advice (I loved specially revisiting Keaton and Layne)

What I wanted more of:
A bit more about the healing time of each character from their traumas and struggles, and the growth of their relationship with God.

Overall, I recommend this book, but suggest reading the author's disclosure first, as some may find the topics a bit uncomfortable.

* This is a Christian fiction closed-door/fade-to-black without explicit content romance.
* Thank you for this E-ARC opportunity. All the opinions expressed are purely my own.

This is another book added to my favourites. Whenever Skylar J. Kent writes a book, I'm going to read it because I've been deeply encouraged in my faith by this series. Desert Thorns is a very bold, much needed story about sexual temptation, sin, and mercy from a Christian perspective. This book isn't about perfect Christians because there are no such people. It emphasizes that God's gift of redemption is available to everyone despite their past and present circumstances.

Read this book if you struggle with lust, feel stuck in a loop of guilt and shame from your choices, and face triggers that lead to temptation. Read it if you don't. If you know someone who'd benefit from Desert Thorns, please support them and read it along with them. Desert Thorns is based on Biblical truth, and there is no condemnation in it.

Kingsley was one of my favourite characters introduced in Gold Digger. His powerful story gripped my heart. It wasn't without realistic challenges. Yet, he and Harley learned that they were not beyond redemption. There are heavy and dark situations discussed, scenes that were deeply emotional and suspenseful, and also some lighter, touching, and beautiful moments. I laughed, smiled, gasped, and cried.

I'm so grateful for the opportunity to support this author by being on her advanced reader team. I'm eager to read Rome's book next year because he's an intriguing character. Eventually, I want the paperbacks for the whole series to reread and share.

Bold!!! Intense!!! Skylar Kent dives into an area that many keep hidden. Out of the mistakes and hidden fears, she brings a story of hope, healing and reminder of God's love and grace. Sexual sin is one area that the struggle is real and draws many from walking in the fullness of God. Desert Thorns is a beautiful reminder that God's grace is ever sufficient, His love for us unwavering and from our mistakes, He creates a beautiful picture of hope and support for others.
Kingsley and Harley coming to the true realization that God's love is unconditional, His mercy and grace ever there and that we do not earn it by our works. Both learning to forgive themselves and not condemnation releases them into God's purpose for their lives.
Of course, the Grady clan is present and it's so good to read more about them and the love and support they have for each other. Heartwarming interactions from all the characters, both old and new makes Desert Thorns a beautiful read packed with suspense and intrigue. I look forward to reading more stories about all the striking and unique characters.
Desert Thorns, a bold and exciting book that addresses sexual sin even in the body of Christ is one worth reading. No sin is too big for God to forgive. He gives grace to overcome and become a stepping stone.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m honestly still reeling from my experience reading through this novel. This book had me tearing up, clutching my chest, and whispering prayers in between chapters.😭🙏
Here’s the gist 👀
A runaway woman climbs over the walls of a monastery in the dead of night, desperate for safety. Harley’s running from an ex who turned out to be a killer 😳, and the last place she expects to find refuge is in the arms of a monk on the brink of becoming a priest. Enter Brother Samuel—formerly Kingsley Grady, son of billionaires—who vows to protect her. But when forbidden attraction mixes with danger and guilt, their lives spiral into a storm of suspense, sin, mercy, and redemption.
💭 My thoughts?
This isn’t your “sunshine and rainbows” type of Christian fiction. Nope. Desert Thorns hits hard with its honesty about temptation, sin, and the war between flesh and spirit. The romance is tender yet messy, and the faith themes are raw, convicting, and so beautifully Spirit-led. I reflected, I repented, and I finished the book grateful that Christian romance is being this authentic and so close to reality. 🙏💔➡️💖
If you want a Christian romance that dares to be different (edgy, suspenseful, and heart-wrenchingly real) this is it.

Wow! Another amazing and compelling read from Skylar J. Kent. Desert Thorns is raw, honest, and so deep on so many levels. The faith thread is so well done. The characters are so well drawn and their redemption and growth is inspiring. The suspense is perfect! I loved it all so much.

Kingsley is such a great character. I felt his pain as he struggled with his issues and wanted him to find the peace he so desperately needed and wanted. Harley is so perfect for him. She is bubbly, honest, and blunt - so blunt- and I loved her for it. This story explores temptation and sexual sin, the struggle to forgive ourselves when we fall, and—most importantly—the boundless grace of God.

I loved this quote-

“Rejecting His forgiveness by not forgiving myself meant He’d gone through all of this torment for nothing. How arrogant and idiotic I’d been.”

We also get to reconnect with Keaton (still one of my all-time favorite male characters) and Layne, as well as other familiar faces from Gold Digger. And the introduction of new characters—hello, Rome!—has me even more excited for what's to come in this series.

Absolutely unforgettable. I can't wait for the next story! 5 stars!!

This book starts with a bang, a rush to survive, and doesn’t slow down. A fast-paced struggle for survival both physically and spiritually. Harley and Kingsley are thrown together in a beautiful tropical paradise that is full of nature’s beauty and man’s evil schemes and corruption.
This Romantic Suspense by Kent is far more than an intensely suspenseful romance novel. It is a gut-wrenching look at the very real spiritual struggle with one of the hardest sins to conquer.
If it is true that fiction is boot camp for real life, this book will challenge you to look at yourself and ask the hard question of how do I deal with my sin, whatever it is that you struggle with. How do I move on when I mess up again and again? When I sincerely repent do I really believe that I am forgiven by a loving God?

Desert Thorns is a continuation of a series by Kent, the first being Gold Digger. While it can be read as a stand alone novel, reading Gold Digger first will give you a better basis for understanding Kingsley, his family dynamics, and the life decisions he has made.

Thank you to author Skyler J. Kent for the opportunity of being part of your ARC team. It is the first Kent book I read and it will definitely not be my last.
Desert Thorns is a story about redemption. There’s no other way to see it. Both Kingsley and Harley are faced with deep challenges that bring them together and redefine their faith in God and the meaning of mercy, grace, and true forgiveness.
I appreciate the way the author presented how both males and females struggle with sexual sin and lust. It was profound, relatable, and brought a new perspective in the matter. I would have enjoyed more details of Kingsley’s backstory: what life events led him to become a monk and how he overcame trauma.
I will definitely recommend the book and read it again.

I appreciate a Christian author willing to tackle a sensitive subject like sexual immorality, especially in a fictional book. Some conversations or thoughts on the subject and how to approach it Biblically felt a little clunky. And, while I think she should've had her characters dive a little deeper into Scripture, her overall message was conveyed in a good way. I definitely hope she continues writing about these truths. By God's grace, she'll only get better from here.

Also...SHE NEEDS TO WRITE MORE BOOKS. I NEED Rome's story, Tatum's story, literally any of the military guys' stories. Her cast of characters is so fun and she truly makes you care about them. Plus, here stories are so fast-paced.

‎You just found the perfect man for you and he is a monk.
‎Skylar J. Kent definitely goes where other Christian authors don't dare. This was my first book by her. It's a story of Forbidden Love mixed with Suspense. I would not call it a romance because the entire time I was mortified. I couldn't bring myself to root for the characters. To be honest I found the subplots much more romantic. I'm looking forward to the next installation about Roman.

‎Otherwise, the book handles sexual immorality in a Christian context very well. I would recommend this book to my nieces. I agree100% with the issues raised. It just was not entertaining for me. On the contrary, it was painful.

This is a book I would highly encourage any Christian woman to read. While it’s definitely not a lighthearted read, the topics that are covered are incredibly important and relevant in today’s world. Harley and Kingsley both struggle with sexual sin, but I especially appreciated how Harley’s triggers (smutty novels, dating apps, etc.) were used to demonstrate how seemingly harmless things can cause someone to fall into sinful behavior. There were a lot of suspenseful elements to this story as well, and my heart was pounding in some of those scenes! I’d highly recommend this book to those who struggle with similar issues, as they may feel seen after reading.

Wow, is the only word that comes to mind. Skylar J. Kent has done it again. If you haven't read Gold Digger yet, I would highly recommend reading it first, as the characters overlap.

Kingsley and Harley's story in Desert Thorns is just amazing. The dash of danger to contrast with Kingsley's wrestle with God is amazing. This is a deep, raw, gritty Christian romance with a touch of suspense. Skylar doesn't pull any punches and the story reflects this. I thought the set-up to the next book in this series is awesome and I can't wait to see what happens to these characters next.

Skylar J. Kent's Desert Thorns reminds us that we are not too far gone for God to restore and make us new.

I appreciated how Skylar J. Kent didn't shy away from writing about Christians who aren't perfect, who stumble over and over, but choose to lean on Jesus instead of hiding.

I truly believe we need more bold Christian fictions like this that tackle such taboo sins. It becomes an encouragement to those who are still struggling and shows us we are never alone. Harley and Kingsley's journey blessed my heart.

4.5 ⭐️. Kent describes this book as bold and daring Christian fiction; I love how she tackles real life issues and struggles that most traditionally published Christian books don’t. The Faith themes of sin and mercy and forgiveness are so strong in this book. Loved getting another small glimpse of Keaton and Layne from book 1, too.

These characters struggle with sexual sin so there are conversations around that which is why Kent suggests this book for 18+.

Not going to find this in your church's library, but you probably should. This book covers topics that Christians prefer not to talk about, but 99.9% have battled in silence. The unflinching honesty of Harley and Kingsley and their struggles maybe awkward for some to read but was refreshing to see in the Christian fiction market. Keep writing the tough stuff, Ms. Kent.

Desert Thorns is the newest release from Skylar J. Kent. And like the cover says it’s a story of sin and mercy. This is a bold Christian contemporary that deals with hard topics, topics that are not openly discussed, ones that deal specifically with the lust of the flesh. But it is handled with the utmost care and Biblical truths.

Skylar is willing to talk about issues that world deems acceptable or that people want to remain unspoken, and uses the Word of God to bring hope and peace to those who may deal with these types of vices. She shows her audience that they are not alone in their struggles.

This book is not for everyone. If you read the blurb it warns the reader of topics presented. There is also a content warning at the beginning of the story. This is in no way an explicit book but it deals with issues for a more mature audience. I do feel it is a necessary and powerful read that can help someone to repent and heal.

The overall message is a beautiful and hopeful one. I would also like to point out that while some characters are Christians I do not agree with certain aspects of this story. Namely the occupation of the FMC. There is a saying about cast your pearls before the swine. I feel that God would have us honor him with our mouths, bodies, and also our testimony. The places we go and things we participate in is a part of that testimony. And temptation is all around. Removing oneself from those situations is a necessary step in walking the “narrow path”. That is my personal opinion.

Thank you Skylar for the advanced copy all opinions are my own.

This book was fantastic. I loved Kingsley and Harley, they were interesting as individuals and had great chemistry together. They were easy to root for. The plot is thrilling. The handling of sexual sin, temptation and forgiveness is masterful. It had me praying to be a better Christian, less judgemental because of the love of God expressed.

The idea of monks and mafia was so interesting to me and it was so well done.

Definitely pick this up if you enjoy thrilling, gritty, Faith-filled romance.

This book was raw, real, and absolutely captivating! I loved every minute of it. Skylar has such a gift with words, and her writing style pulled me in from the very first page. She handles heavy topics with such care and compassion, so be sure to check her content warnings, but know that every thread of the story beautifully points back to Jesus.

I couldn’t put this book down. Kingsley and Harley were such an unexpected pairing—he’s a monk, and she finds refuge at the monastery while fleeing her dangerous ex—but their story was so compelling. Add in a mob boss whose character completely surprised me (I ended up loving him!) and Harley’s incredible group of friends—the kind of supportive, loyal friends we all dream of—and you’ve got a story that’s impossible to walk away from.

This book was amazing. If you haven’t read Gold Digger yet, definitely start there, then dive into this one—you won’t regret it!
