Definitely the worst book of the series. There was no character development. Viola was unlikeable. She was never a merry spinster, and Sebastian was certainly not a charming rogue as the series name suggests.

Lady Viola’s Accidental Husband is such a good book,
a lively blend of romance, scandal, and deliciously tangled secrets.

Viola is an absolute whirlwind in the best possible way. She walks barefoot, leaves her stockings wherever they fall, writes constantly, has a wild imagination, and cannot keep a hairpin in place to save her life. She’s chaotic, creative, and wonderfully alive, the kind of heroine who lights up every scene simply by being herself.

Sebastian, on the other hand, is her perfect opposite. He’s tidy, orderly, composed, and prefers structure over spontaneity. Where Viola is a storm, Sebastian is the calm that follows it. And that contrast is exactly what makes their dynamic so irresistible.

Their accidental marriage throws them together, but misunderstandings keep them apart for years, until fate (and London) bring them face‑to‑face again. Forced to share a house because, well, they are married, the tension snaps back instantly. Scandal brews, drama erupts, and the sparks between them are impossible to ignore.

It’s a charming, funny, and heartfelt story about two mismatched souls who fit together far better than either expected. A delightful romp from start to finish.

I have no idea ...

How does Sofi Laporte continue to find these characters and the English language to take us back in time, to the point we feel like we are actually there!
She is amazing, with the humor, and detail to every person introduced.
Lady Viola and Sebastian had it coming on the first paragraph.

Sophie’s writing is always superb. That said, this one didn’t fully work for me. The main character being an author who writes smut wasn’t really my thing, and the extremely slow-burn romance—spanning nine years—made it harder to stay engaged, which is why I settled on four stars.

Not the best, as historical romances go, but I did finish it. Even enjoyed parts of it. Unfortunately, other parts were barely tolerable.
Overall: blah.

Both main characters were unlikeable. Neither was she merry, nor was he charming. I really liked the first book in the series about Lady Ludmilla, but each book has gotten progressively worse especially the last few.

I have always loved Sofi’s masterfully written and incredibly amusing books and I will continue to shout her praises from the mountaintops. This book was no exception in its wonderful turn of phrase, brilliant storyline and unexpected twists. The characters were realistic and relatable and the historical accuracy was, as always, impeccable.
The title made me wonder – how could anyone possibly be married by accident? And when I discovered what had happened I laughed heartily, but rejoiced that this couple would be together and experience a wonderful marriage filled with love and companionship.
Viola was a delightful character – clumsy, messy, outspoken, confident in her own skin, maddening (to Sebastian at least), kind, sensitive, and above all thoroughly realistic and relatable. As a writer myself, I know all too well the pain and frustration when writers’ block hits and the words just won’t come, the pressure to produce something when the well is dry and the absolute elation when the words finally fountain out of your soul. I found myself relating to Viola at every turn and with every word of the book I became more and more enamoured with her, much like Sebastian did!
Sebastian’s grandmother was an absolute delight! I adored her! The way she spoke to Viola as a daughter, the way she told Sebastian off for his assumptions, the way she insisted they marry before she died – proving an incomparable matchmaker. (I don’t believe that’s a spoiler as ‘accidental marriage’ is in the very title of the book, but if it is I apologise!) and the way she cared for all her family, especially Sebastian – who as the fourth son of an earl would have to make his own way in the world.
Sebastian was the best mix of grumpiness and loyalty! I loved how he could orate with the best of them and beat everyone to a pulp verbally in parliament, yet became a tongue-tied awkward little boy when Viola forced him to express his feelings toward her! How he realised early on that the ways in which they were so different shouldn’t stand as an obstacle between them and instead learnt to find them endearing, his protectiveness toward his gran and Viola, his gruff kindness, his confidence in himself – he was an absolutely wonderful man to get to know! I watched them marry at the cutest little accidental wedding ever penned and rejoiced with them when they spent that night together ….. and then I turned the page.
Part Two had me wondering if I’d missed something. Had Sofi forgotten to include a section? Was there a companion book I didn’t know about? One minute they were experiencing the joy of new marriage and the next …. well you’ll have to read to find out. Tempting though it is, I have no wish to include a spoiler and find myself struck off Sofi’s ARC list (although she is a lovely person so she’d probably forgive me.) Nonetheless, I have to admit that I found myself confused for a good part of the first chapter of Part Two and my poor flummoxed brain was desperately trying to put the pieces together. But never fear, dear reader, the apparent plot-holes are masterfully filled in, the questions are answered through characters and story and pretty soon you’ll find yourself understanding just why that jolt between Parts One and Two was actually incredibly necessary, if uncomfortable.
So to sum up, let me just say that despite the jolt between the two parts, Sofi has produced another masterpiece nonpareil using humour, twists and a sublime mastery over her readers’ emotions that even Mrs Selina Sable couldn’t claim, and you will enjoy every minute of the story!

What do I love about the Merry Spinsters, Charming Rogues series-- the humor and the twists and turns of unexpected things that happen in each book. This latest addition to the series does not disappoint. As the story starts out with the MFC falling from the sky into the MMC arms and he immediately drops her into a bed of nettles. Next Sebastian finds out that this girl wearing crumpled, stained clothes and looking like a milkmaid, was engaged to his brother George and staying in his grandmother's home. Lady Viola was the daughter of an earl and her godmother was Sebastian's grandmother.

Sebastian and Viola will have to come to some sort of truce as they live under the same roof. He tries to avoid her as much as he can but she always seems to show up with her chaos. As time goes on and there seems to be something growing between them, Sebastian remembers she belongs to his brother George and knows he must get away from her. His Nana has other plans as she has wants to see Lady Viola wed before she dies. Calling her brother the Archbishop of York to her home she is failing and he agrees to officiate the wedding but the groom is miles away fighting in the war. The only solution that Sebastian can come up with is to be a proxy groom so that Viola can marry George. The fun and twists go on from there as he becomes her accidental husband.

This is such a fun story and once you start reading it, you won't want to put it down.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

There are a lot of things about this book that I liked - and some I didn't.

The premise was fun, and I liked the first chapters that came from Sebastian's point of view, so that we understood him better beneath the facade.

We really had to hold on to that, though, because in part 2 (the rest of the book, which was most of the book) we generally only see that cool, uncaring exterior. Certainly there are cracks (thank goodness), but I would have a really hard time being with someone who was that closed off in private as well as public.

I liked how realistic their feelings were during the time they were separated. Both of them were people I could understand and relate to at a deeper-than-surface level.

I really liked the way they found their way back to each other, stumbling, but trying, and forgiving. I loved how realistic some aspects of the marriage were, and I loved the way they acknowledged that they had different communication styles and started working their way through that, even though it wasn't easy.

I had a hard time, though, with how closed off Sebastian was - even after trying to find his way back to Viola. He just kept retreating inside himself and they'd live as strangers under the same household. I get that he had a hard time acknowledging and expressing feelings, but I just couldn't fully embrace a MMC that was that closed off and emotionally unavailable so much of the time - regardless of how he was feeling underneath all of that.

“We are not less intelligent for enjoying romances.”

This is my favorite volume in this series so far, and my favorite farm this author. Sebastian Fane is shocked when Viola literally drops into his arms due from the tower where she was trying to get a good view of a haunted graveyard. She is staying at the family manor while awaiting the return of his brother George. But George hasn’t written, and meanwhile Sebastian’s dear grandmother is fading fast and dreaming of seeing George and Viola Wed. So a wedding by proxy is hastily arranged to please her. But….

I know it sounds contrived and a stretch, but it matures into a beautiful love story between Sebastian the influential politician and Viola, who has a successful career writing gothic romances under a pseudonym. They have both experienced heartbreak but fate keeps drawing them together. They are kind and respectful and supportive of each other, even through misunderstandings and hurt.

The characters are remarkably mature for a romance novel. The challenges to their happiness seem very real as is their willingness to change and grow. I enjoyed reading about these characters and was rooting for them all the way. I also enjoyed the exploration of writing and reading romance novels, which presented both the fun and the awkwardness of being a fan of this genre.

5 stars! Highly recommended!

She fell from the sky, and he caught her. It was an accident, but not the only one. When Nana, on her deathbed, insisted on a wedding, they had no choice. It was never meant to be a real wedding, but it was. Viola and Sebastian held such different interests, had such different personalities, it was doomed from the start…or was it?

This was a delight of a story. It’s not exactly enemies-to-lovers or friend-to-lovers, it’s a bit of both, and a touch of forced proximity. The characters shine in this tale; they brought everything to life; Sebastian and all his stuffiness, Viola and her imagination and free-spiritedness. The supporting characters added so much to this story. The writing was near perfection.

If you enjoy romantic reads, don’t just sit there reading this review, go buy the book and read it. I highly recommend this book. It brings together the accidental wedding, misunderstandings, scandal, politicians, novelists, and friendship into an enjoyable and amusing read.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.

Excellent, clean Regency romance with a delightful plot. It all starts when Viola is a young girl of 17 just turning 18 who has not been exposed to society but she has met George Fane and believes that she is informally engaged to him. He is away fighting in the Peninsular War when his younger brother Sebastian comes to visit his grandmother and meets Viola is a dramatic fashion while she is also visiting the old lady. Since the old lady is on the point of death and insists on seeing Viola wed we get a marriage by proxy that accidentally ends up with Viola marrying Sebastian.

We then leap forward to part two which forms the main story. What is slightly confusing to start with is while we know when part two starts in 1818, we don't know the date for part one until we are told Viola's age. It was only my knowledge of the Peninsular War that enabled me to make an estimate. It would have been easier if part one was dated at the start of the book.

A whole series of misunderstandings and miscommunication start to become apparent and these along with forced proximity and significant character differences along with personal preferences provides for humour, emotion, empathy and a sparkling plot.

Lady Viola's Accidental Husband by Sofi Laporte is cheeky, adventurous, and full of raw communication that you just can't help love.

Sofi has such a way with words that seems so effortless. Each character so themselves that I will NEVER get bored with Sofi's creations. I also appreciate the extensive layers that she builds up with surprises at every turn in the novel, and beautiful and delicious character arcs that tug at your heart strings.

📕second chance
📕hidden identity
📕forced proximity
📕hidden past and secrets
📕enemies to lovers
📕regency romance

Goshhhhh where do I start? From an "accidental" marriage, secrets that can ruin reputations, and hidden pasts that could break relationships. The book had a top layer of humor, humor that makes you turn the page. Both main characters are so different from each other but yet there is tension and sparks that makes you turn the pages in anticipation. Can their relationship be saved? Can they get past their differences?

If you want a book to d3stroy you in the best way possible, this is the one for you.

Thank you Sofi Laporte for the free book.

Enjoyable!

I really enjoyed the story! Sebastian and Viola were great lead characters. I loved that part one was through Sebastian‘s point of view, and part two was through Viola‘s! Being able to see how each one felt was really important because their actions and words didn’t always match what they were thinking or feeling (I believe that was the point!).

The plot and storyline was really interesting as well. I haven’t read one quite like this before, so I really enjoyed it. Having two main characters that knew how to use words perfectly yet not be able to communicate with one another was just perfect irony.

The romance between the two was sweet as well! I wish we had more time to watch the two characters be together, but I loved reading their journey and watching them fumble through. I could see why each character was drawn to the other. They really were two sides of the same coin. I loved Viola’s off the wall thinking and spout of vocabulary. I loved Sebastian’s linear, calculated thoughts. The characterization was really strong in this one.

How to rate a book with so many emotions drawn from the author’s pen? I can’t but I could not put the book down until I saw how it all ends up.

The hero is stalwart, true and literal in so many ways. The heroine is creative, flighty and opposite of the hero.

There are many funny and actual laugh out loud moments, as well as quiet and solemn scenes. Without giving away any secrets in the many twists and turns in this book I was cheering for the couple from the start and right up until the end. In fact, I would love to see more of this couple and how their future evolves.

The author does a remarkable job of showing the fickleness of the Ton, how it can cause much heartache. Yet she shows at the same time how much a true friend is priceless.

This book, series and author are well worth reading and enjoying.

The author offers the following Content note: this story contains reference to pregnancy loss.

I received an ARC copy of the book and an opinions are my own.

Viola Leigh literally falls into Sebastian Fane’s arms when she’s seventeen, and from the start, they can’t stand each other. She’s impulsive and chaotic, he’s serious and proper, so accidentally ending up married is about the worst thing that could happen to either of them.
Nine years later, Sebastian is a rising political star, while Viola is hiding secrets that could ruin everything he’s worked for. They’ve spent years pretending their marriage doesn’t matter, but being forced back into each other’s lives makes that impossible. With old feelings, new problems, and plenty of tension between them, they finally have to face the one thing they’ve both avoided: each other.

I enjoyed this story because it combines a fun premise with a lot of emotional tension. Viola and Sebastian have a strong opposites-attract dynamic, and their history gives the romance extra depth. The mix of old resentment, hidden feelings, and forced proximity keeps their relationship interesting throughout.

That was fantastic! The very best of the series! What a roller coaster of emotions!

I loved the first meeting of our heroes: messy, tomboy Lady Viola fell from the ruins of a tower in the arms of our very proper and stiff Sebastian Hane!
I loved their sudden wedding: in haste in front of a dying relative, they married thinking that something else had happened!
I loved their first kiss: in a moment of utter despair hope dawned.
I loved their reencounter: at Almack’s ball each sensed the presence of the other.
I loved their homecoming: they shared a room and a bed as if nothing had ever happened.
I loved their daily routine: their banter. How she confronted him in public.
I loved how he defended her: he revealed in front of everyone their relationship.
I loved the revelations: each was as much surprising as the last one.
I loved the last scene: as a family all together.

Five stars because the novel rightly deserves it!

This delightful story is witty and filled with humor and sadness. Not all of us are perfect little ladies with fluttering eyelashes. Some of us have perpetual bad hair days, are clumsy, and lose our shoes because we prefer to go barefoot...even in the winter. Most ladies only talk about polite subjects and the weather while a very few are interested in gothic horror and monsters. This can be enchanting to some men and fill others with horror.
This is a story of Mr. tall, dark, and handsome and miss Where-are-my-slippers who is so absent minded she loses her hosiery and slippers, dropping her shawl most anywhere as she writes stories and fills her days with dreams of stories and adventures. Her fingers are ink-stained and her hair is a mess but she is adorable. He is Mr. perfect. She has a secret that could destroy his career and reputation. What would happen if they married...even by accident??

When Lady Viola falls from a ruined tower into Sebastian's arms, it feels like it should be the start of something special. But she's a slapdash hoyden and he a very proper gentleman - not to mention she's engaged to his brother. When the visit culminates with them ending up accidentally married, everything falls apart. Nine years later, she's become a famous author under a pen name, and he has an impressive career in politics. A trip to London and an unexpected meeting with Sebastian shows Viola how easily her secret could destroy her husband, yet somehow she can't just walk away. Is this the chance to finally find what they missed so long ago, or the end of everything between them?

I had slightly more mixed feelings about this book than previous books in the series. I loved watching their initial time together, but once we meet them nine years down the track, they've grown apart and hardened so much that it took a while for me to warm to them again. However, once they really started getting in each other's ways (and ultimately reuniting), it was great. I particularly loved the scene where they finally talk, properly - it was amazing. Viola was a delightful character in her ability to always do the unexpected - which naturally threw Sebastian and made for some good scenes. And Sebastian himself? He mostly has his priorities pretty right, even if he's terrible at expressing himself about his 'feelings', which naturally leads to all kinds of trouble. But thankfully we get a very satisfying ending to their difficulties - hard-earned, but all the better for that. All in all, recommended.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Maintenant direction la petite surprise cachée à la fin !! 🤭💃🏾

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I read Lady Viola’s Accidental Husband in one sitting—I was completely hooked from beginning to end. This story is everything I love in a romance: charming, funny, whimsical, and deeply heartfelt.

What truly made it shine for me was the dynamic between the protagonists. Their banter is absolutely delightful—sharp, clever, and full of energy. Both characters bring such a vibrant, engaging presence to the page that I couldn’t look away for a moment. Their communication feels fresh and intelligent, with a rhythm that makes every interaction sparkle.

There’s a wonderful balance here between humor and emotion. I found myself smiling one moment and completely invested in their journey the next. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and their shared wit and liveliness make their story feel both unique and utterly satisfying.

An absolute joy to read—loved every minute!

Lady Viola’s Accidental Husband by Sofi LaPorte is a delightful story. I have really enjoyed this author’s books and I generally pre-order them as soon as I get an alert that she’s working on her next title. This book is segregated into two parts. The first is told from the hero's point of view. Sebastian Fane is a logical man and not given to effusive emotions. Lady Viola appears in the first scene like a whirlwind. I struggled with the first chapter of this book. I had trouble picturing the opening scene because there’s very little external description to ground the reader. So I felt the book started off at a handicap. But as the story progressed, I was pulled into the plot. This is a sweet second chance romance. Although it wasn’t my favorite LaPorte book, I will still give it a solid four star rating.

We meet a very unconventional heroine, matched up with most proper and starched up hero. Sparks fly between them from the very first meeting, yet each is hesitant to give in to the feelings, each is scared of their widely different characters. I loved how the author portrayed this story, bringing out the differences between the two, and still bringing about a happily ever after for them.

I found this book to be a bit different from the author's normal style. It was a bit deeper, more raw, though the author does lighten it up with her signature humour! I loved the way Sebastian described 'love', in his own manner. That resonated with me more than any polished dialogues on love ever could!

Thank you Sofi for providing me with an ARC of the book!

A fun, quirky read of how opposites attract. Lady Viola and Sebastian couldn’t be more different from each other; he is orderly, neat, and proper, while she is, well, the opposite. He is constantly picking up socks, hair pins, etc. she has left randomly around. He is impeccably beyond reproach and has established a successful political career. She writes lurid novels that could ruin his career. How do two such people fall in love? By accidentally getting married to please his aunt; they believe it is by proxy for Sebastian’s brother who is away at war. I loved Lady Viola’s depth of emotion as they try to navigate their way into a real marriage. Thanks to the author, I received an ARC copy and am leaving a review voluntarily.

Lady Viola’s Accidental Husband, the seventh entry in Ms. Laporte’s happy-go-lucky Merry Spinsters, Charming Rogues series is yet another triumph. While faithful readers have no doubt there will be a happy resolution in the end, we can be just as certain that the journey to that resolution will be filled with twists and turns and plenty of clever humor along the way. Lively, quick-witted, and utterly inspired insults are fired back and forth in sparkling and often hilarious dialogue. The excellent writing is a pleasure, the story is unique, as are all the entries in this series, and there is never a dull moment. Lady Viola’s Accidental Husband (I love the titles) is a terrific example of the author’s signature style, something I truly enjoy.

I liked this book 4.25 ⭐️, I read it all in one day because it was pretty darn entertaining. I had a few problems with it, but it was just so entertaining I didn’t care.

This series isn’t super realistic and has a little more of a modern voice. I also would t really say a this book belongs in the ‘ Merry Spinsters, Charming Rogues series.’ Viola wasn’t a spinster and Sebastian was not a rogue. But it had the same funny vibe as the others in the series.

Viola was not super likeable for me the first couple chapters, she sounded so immature, then I found out she was 17, so that made sense, and then I was confused on how this was a spinster book, but later it does make a little more sense.

This is a fun book because Lady Viola is so not what is expected in society. She is pretty delightful really. I wondered how two people can be accidentally married but that gets pulled off quite easily and it made sense. Unfortunately, there are a lot of wasted years in that marriage even though they both love each other. But once they leave London their romance becomes rather sweet. It is just sad that it didn't happen earlier. Good communication would have been helpful of course. They both suffered alone instead of being united in love.
It was an enjoyable read.
There are implied marital relations and just a little language in the story.

Viola Leigh and Sebastian Fane are opposites, she is flighty and outspoken, he is serious and reserved. They are married “accidentally”, can they live together and be happy?
I love this author’s books, the story lines are so original! This tale is filled with secrets, secret longings, emotion, humor, and drama. Viola and Sebastian have been torn apart by their secrets, under the watchful and scornful eyes of the ton, can they find their was back to each other to trust and love again?
Another wonderfully emotional story!
