Modern Chains examines a truth we have been conditioned to our financial system functions as a silent mechanism of enslavement. Drawing on centuries of history, philosophy, and moral reasoning, author Neal Flesher reveals how our fiat monetary order corrodes human dignity and fractures communities.
This book delivers a powerful appeal to moral clarity. By exposing the architecture of fractional reserve banking, revealing the invalid logic of debt-based money, demolishing the justifications for “acceptable” inflation, and unveiling the soul-siphoning nature of usury, Flesher maps out the moral imperative to resist with logical rigor and resounding rhetorical force.
Yet Modern Chains does not dwell in gloom. It presents practical tools for liberation in the form of a revolutionary monetary one requiring no trust in political promises or corporate benevolence. If you have ever sensed something deeply wrong beneath everyday economic life, this book’s philosophical depth and practical guidance may be your key to shaking off those invisible chains.
“Neal Flesher’s Modern Chains fearlessly exposes the moral bankruptcy of our monetary system. A necessary, penetrating critique that challenges readers to reclaim human dignity and resist the quiet tyranny of economic enslavement.” – Dr. Sebastian Mahfood, OP, co-author with Phillip Mahfood of How to Hire, Manage, and Monitor Employees who Work at Home
Modern Chains is a powerful and eye-opening book that challenges readers to confront the uncomfortable truth about the world’s debt-based monetary systems. Neal Flesher dives deep into how modern economies are structured around mechanisms that, whether we realise it or not, enslave us through debt, inflation, and fiat currency.
The book opens with a bold definition of slavery - not just the historical kind we learned about in school, but the modern, subtle kind that operates through financial dependence. It’s a heavy subject, but one that absolutely needs to be discussed. Flesher doesn’t sugarcoat anything, and that’s exactly the point. He invites us to stop pretending that things are fine and to start calling a spade a spade.
While the early chapters lay the groundwork, things really pick up around Chapter 6. That’s where the ideas start clicking, and you begin to see just how deeply this system affects not only economies but morality, freedom, and even human dignity. Flesher’s use of philosophical and ethical reasoning gives the book more depth than your average economic critique.
This isn't just a book for economists or academics - it's for anyone who wants to understand the forces shaping their daily lives. If you’ve ever felt like something about the system just doesn’t add up, this book helps explain why.
Bottom line: Read this book. Seriously. It’ll make you think differently - and maybe even act differently - about money, freedom, and what it means to truly live free.
Wow, this book is packed full of information, including a brief history of how and why money became part of our civilization. From there, a crash course in modern banking and functions of the Federal Reserve. Before long, the facts presented seem too outlandish to believe, but Flesher provides more than ample source citations to verify what he is saying is real. It’s this first half of the book we are shown the hidden problems within the system. Then in the second half of the book we are treated with the answer to the problem. Hint, morality is the key. And the solution is elegant and attainable. Read for yourself and find out. As the author puts it, “we are not waiting for rescue, we are the rescue.”
A great moral rebuke of fiat money and modern slavery. However it is repetitive and offers few new insights, repeating great books and ideas from others. It actually reads like a sermon.
However, Chapter 6 is excellent. It presents the moral argument for rejecting the current monetary system and equates it with 18th century chattel slavery.
