New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries #6

The Hudson Valley Mystery

Rate this book
THE HUDSON VALLEY MYSTERY. Dr. Watson and his wife are enjoying a peaceful breakfast when a note arrives
from Sherlock Holmes inviting them on a journey to New York City. A terrible tragedy has taken place in the Hudson Valley, just north of the great metropolis. A young man confessed to having murdered his father, and then he went stark raving mad.

The lad’s mother knows that he could not have done the foul deed and that he certainly is not mad. Her only hope is Sherlock Holmes and she calls on him to help her and rescue her son.

Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, and Watson’s wife, Mary Morstan, make their way to America and enter along with thousands of immigrants seeking a new life in America. In New York City they meet the villains of Tammany Hall and, at the village where the crime took place they encounter … maybe … no one will ever know for sure … a ghostly apparition that haunts the pleasant glade known as Sleepy Hollow.

A friend of the alleged murderer is found dead. A young woman is violated. Holmes must avoid being led astray a second time and act quickly to trap the real murderer.

The story is inspired by The Buscombe Valley Mystery, one of the original stories in the canon of Sherlock Holmes stories. The beloved characters of those stories are all still there present. The events and the setting may be new, but Sherlockians everywhere will recognize the mind and actions of the world's most beloved detective. It will especially appeal to those readers who also love New York. Buy it now and enjoy the adventure.

Entertaining mystery listening 🎶🔰
I listed to this as part of Sherlock Holmes Never Dies. Sherlock, Mary, and Dr. Watson travel to America to help with a murder in Sleepy Hollow. It has NewYork history and is very interesting., I would recommend it to fans of Sherlock Holmes. 2023 🕵️‍♂️🎩👩‍🦰🛳

This was an OK read for me. I thought it had very little atmosphere and from whatever descriptions I got could have been placed anywhere, not necessarily in the Hudson Valley (Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow). Also, some of the situations were beyond my belief and felt out of place.

The good thing is that Watson and Holmes had Mrs. Watson along and she contributed some good ideas. Otherwise, this was a one-off for me.

A wonderful Holmes & Watson mystery.

Mr. Copland writes his novels in a very similar to Dickens style. I can see he desires to put the settings, manner of speech, clothing, etc., in an appropriate tribute to Dickens. I enjoyed this story very much and am ready to dive into the next book in Copland’s Sherlock collection. Read the book! :)

Holmes , John and even Mary Watson are wrapped in a mystery of a hysterical son following his fathers murder. All signs point to him. But we know Holmes thinks differently.
Holmes is back in New York.

I enjoyed reading this book. My only criticism is that it needs to be edited more.

One of his best

A true enough picture of Tammany Hall, intricately plotted enough to be truly Sherlockian, but the author needs a refresher in NYC geography

Great story about an area where I grew up and the stories of the headless horseman. It was great to have Sherlock Holmes in NY with beloved historical figures like Theodore Roosevelt as supporting characters. The mystery was suspenseful and creatively written with Mary Watson being a big help to her husband in solving some of the mystery.
