I am just going to get straight to the point. I loved loved LOVED Standing By. I think I might have even liked this one more than Getting By, and I adored that book.
Oh to have a Knight brother in your life.
Getting By was Jake’s story, Standing By is Mitch’s (Jake’s twin brother). My next book boyfriend? Why yes, yes he is.
Hayley owns a bakery called Pieces Of Heaven. She’s known Mitch a bit in the past and always thought he was an arrogant a$$, which he totally is arrogant in a completely sexy I know who I am kind of way.
When Mitch buys her brother’s restaurant, which she supplies the desserts for (and that accounts for 50% of her income), it means that her and Mitch will have to work together.
These two are so perfect together. This book has so much humor and wit, I was a laughing out loud. It wasn’t a figurative LOL that you type to tell your friend, cute story, it was a literal giggle here and there as I was reading. Especially … how do I describe this scene without actually describing this scene? You’ll know it when you to it. I’ll just say there is a scene near the end where Haley has to reprimand the Knight brothers for something that happened, then her father was there, and then … I was just cracking up.
The whole book is like that, fast paced (To the point you don’t even realize how much time has gone by as you are reading. I hit 85% last night and looked at the clock and it was 1:30. My alarm was set to go off at 6:30. Oops.), perfectly written with amazing characters (Even the characters I hated were written so well for the parts they played. I wanted to reach through the book and start hair pulling.) that you fall in love with from the start and who make you smile, and a couple more men in this family to get settled down (which hopefully means more books with Liam and Cade’s stories).
That was possibly the longest run on sentence I have ever wrote, but you shall forgive me because I am still on a book high and totally smitten with Mitch and Hayley. Right?
Amazing book! 5 stars! I’d give it more if I had the choice on Amazon and Goodreads. Love Claudia Y. Burgoa so much! If you haven’t read her, your really should!
I was very eager to read Mitch's book. He played a vital role in his twin brother Jake's romance and I was excited to see how he and Hayley would get along. I was expecting them to be antagonistic but the fireworks I was expecting them to give off never really manifested. Instead of hot and spicy, I got sweet and sensitive with a dash of spice thrown in.
I liked Hayley and Mitch a lot, so it was easy to get sucked into the story. I liked how they played off each other but when the time came, were also there to support one another. I especially liked how Mitch handled Hayley's family. Most of them were nuts and just plain horrible to her. I liked how they slowly fell in love. It was a slow burn and I was taken by surprise when it finally happened, because I wasn't sure when it had happened.
The only things I wasn't very excited about was the conflicts in the story. Not the one between Mitch and Hayley, but the situations that arose with Hayley and her family and the drama from Jake's life. They were essential to the story but I thought they could've fit in a little better. I guess I didn't understand the reason why both issues existed and how they touched Hayley. They seemed a little far fetched and misplaced.
I do want to give Claudia the proper accolades for handling an issue she put into this book. It's quite sensitive and can be easy to overlook in real life. She dealt with it very well and it shows. She also wrote a great story and you can she the research and hard work she put into it. I can't wait to get Liam's book. I expect him to be like his brothers and fall hard. I liked the clues Claudia put in Jake's book for Mitch's story, and I wonder if she's done the same for Liam.
You know you are enjoying a book when you realize your face hurts because you have been smiling for a while. Also, when all of a sudden you break out laughing like a hyena while reading a scene where the characters ... OOOPS! No spoilers here! Let's just say the banter and interaction between our main and peripheral characters is full of fun, mischief, and most of all endearing moments.
This is Mitchel and Hayley's story. He the self proclaimed eternal bachelor with a nurturing spirit and she the woman seeking her independence and self worth. What appears at first to be a battle of the sexes evolves into a story of teamwork, unselfish love, and lively happenings. Hayley has a light that fills a room and a powerful personality that takes no prisoners. She is a survivor with a strong belief in her goals. What is an up hill battle, she tackles it with force and hard work. By the way, sometimes what happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas. *Wiggle eyebrows*
These Knight brothers are not for the faint of heart. They are full of mischief and life. I have no idea how their mother survived raising them and home schooling them. Life in that household had to be chaos all the time!
This is my favorite series so far written by Claudia Burgoa. Our author weaves a human tale and I am engrossed with these characters as if they were my friends. Well done, Claudia! Thank you for such an entertaining story!
Hayley has worked hard to get her bakery Pieces of Heaven up and running. Her family is successful, but dysfunctional, and doesn't take her career seriously. Hayley is determined to work hard and be successful at the expense of having any real social life. Mitch Knight buys a restaurant from his friend Parker, but finds that all the wonderful pastries are supplied by Parker's sister Hayley. Mitch and Hayley have met before and didn't get along. Now they have to find a way to work together so that both business can continue to benefit from the partnership.
I'll mention that I haven't read the first book in this series (although I'm going to soon). This book stands alone just fine, and I had no problem connecting to any of the characters or figuring out what their relationships entailed. I love a good enemies to friends/lovers story, so right away I was intrigued by Hayley and Mitch's tumultuous relationship with one another. One of the things I liked, was that unlike other books with similar relationship dynamic, both Hayley and Mitch were pretty mature about their interactions (for the most part) and weren't just childishy mean to one another. They acknowledged the things that initially caused them to not get along, and then watching them give each other a chance and develop a true friendship was really rewarding. Hayley was an easy character to empathize with. She has been treated pretty badly by most of the people in her family. She does have a couple supportive brothers, and her dad is supportive at times, but other family members are flat-out villains. It was tough to see her treated so badly by people who are supped to love her.
Mitch was a great character, and I liked him right away. His family dynamic was entertaining and I liked how supportive he and his siblings were of one another despite their relentless teasing of each other. The way he really got to know Hayley and wanted the best for her and her business was really endearing. I loved watching their relationship evolve in the face of the many internal and external barriers they faced. The story was exciting and had some interesting twists and turns. I will be going back to read the first in the series, and would enjoy reading more by this author in the future. 3.5 stars.

Each Knight Brother is more and more wonderful. Here we get the story of Mitchel Knight and how he falls for Hayley. Mitchel thought love was not for him. That it hurt you that is until Hayley steps into his world again and even than he fights it. Hayley is the girl who only wants someone to care and to show that she can make it as a owner of a bakery and be successful.
How are they thrown together-the guy who has nicknames for Hayley and the girl who finds him arrogant? Her brother sells his restaurant to Mitchel and Hayley supplies the desserts. These two are reluctant at first to work together but decide to give it a chance. Attraction is abound for these two and they try to fight it. I love the moments in the bakery especially when he is teaching her how to bake breads. The section that spiced this up was their Vegas moments. Secretly you knew these two cared for each other and this was a manifestation of those feelings but they kept the feelings hidden. They even after that moment continue to deny the feelings but eventually the feelings do overwhelm them.
Mitchel and Hayley are a fun couple. Mitchel is the fun relaxed one while Hayley is the to do lister. One helps the other. Mitchel gets Hayley to see life differently and Hayley gets Mitchel to be more organized and see that it is okay to love. He knows her and protects her in a way that is precious. Unfortunately cold feet in the love department happens and Mitchel does something silly but he does try to rectify it only now Hayley's life is in danger and he must put his plan aside to woo Hayley and pushes her away to keep her safe. This though doesn't work well and Hayley fights back at him with a piece of her mind. Mitchel though doesn't take this well. Thank heavens. As the danger unfolds and things happen, Hayley is forced to face Mitchel again and they must each address their feelings about things.
A book about family and love. About friendship and finding the one that makes you whole and never letting go. About being someone's anchor and the other their compass to guide them to love and safety in their arms. A wonderfully written fun loving love story that will have you root for Mitchel to see Hayley and love her with all that he is and for them to be together.
This book was fun to read. I loved Hayley. She was so feisty and full of life. She refused to back down from what she loved and fought for those that she did love. Her family was and is a mess though. I mean what Mother treats her daughter that way? It was a weird thing to witness and read. I wasn’t to fond of many of the characters. To me they seemed a little far fetched and cold. I can understand one or two being that way but all of them? Liam was my favorite sibling. Everyone else just seemed to down grade Hayley for what she wanted to do. I enjoyed the banter that Mitch and Hayley have together! It was enteraining to say the least.
I did get a little confused at the beginning and I guess if you read the first book in the series it would help make more sense. I found myself having to go back to the beginning to try and figure out who was who and who they belonged it. It was frustrating to say the least. Hayley’s dad is a bit of a man whore, so keeping up with his ex wives and children was a challenge. While Mitch had more of a normal family, his brothers are funny and kept things fun and light hearted.
Hayley cuts. She does so to ground herself when she starts to feel like she is losing control, and this is such a great thing to put in a book, not because its something to celebrate but because its just a big problem with girls these days. It shows that while it may be helping, its not an outlet to use. This made me love Hayley more, I kept finding myself yelling at her mom, and Hayley as well. I want to have more of Emma and Jake’s story. All in all I would rate this book a 4 tops.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed reading Hayley and Mitch’s story. Hayley has always worked hard and is determined to make her bakery a success. All the while trying to deal with her dysfunctional family. While Mitch has several successful restaurants and the support and love from his family. The one thing that Hayley feels she doesn’t have. As the story unfolds you can see their feelings start to change and grow for each other. I thought that the author dealt with the conflict that Hayley had to go through with lots of dignity. I haven’t ever read about it in a book before. This is a story about two people that overcome many obstacles in their lives to find their way to each other. To help be each others anchor and guide in life.
Awe Man, this book is all kinds of crazy. This is the kind of book that you go into thinking you know what is going to happen, then you start it, change your mind about what's going to happen next, then are completely baffled because it is the complete opposite, but it somehow still works.
I will start with Mitch, because I liked him more.
Mitchel is a playboy, who believes love is completely overrated. He has two brothers; a twin who is completely whipped, as we find in his story, Getting By, the first novel to the series, and we have the younger brother who is the professional flirty business man. Mitch has just bought out his best mates restaurant. With the restaurant, comes the irate dessert caterer. Income Hayley;
Hayley has had a rough upbringing. Always being told she isn't good enough, isn't pretty enough, isn't smart enough, etc. Instead of attending a prestigious college like the rest of her family, she decides to get a business degree, and open her own bakery-her life long dream. Income Mitch.
I really enjoyed reading this book. There were so many intense characterisation moments, that made me feel things.
"You're going to be the death of me, Knight" "You'll have fun in the meantime, Muffet"
The nicknames were adorable. A little vommy, but that comes hand in hand with adorable, nonetheless.
Although I liked the storyline, and thought it was charming, the development of the romance between Mitch and Hayley wasn't that great. It was an abrupt hate/love story, which was missing the flow or the build up. One moment they hate each other, the next they're in love. It would have been nice for something that flowed a little nicer.
Of course, being a chick-lit, it had to have some staple cheesy-ness:
"I claim her lips, drinking her sweet nectar before I leave"
Overall, I was extremely impressed. I went in with low expectations, and came out surprised, and happy. There was a smile on my face until last page.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are completely my own["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Standing By is just one of those books that crawls into your heart before you even know it. It grabs your attention with its fun loving characters, instant physical attraction and humorous one liners. This is just one of those reads you will continue to remember, long after you have turned the final page.
It wasn't love at first sight for Mitch and muffin girl (that's just one of the infuriating nicknames Mitch thinks up to play with Hayley), Mitch was all about fun, nothing like love would hold him down or catch him off guard again. He is care free, family devoted and women only when he needed his fix. That is all pre Haley.
Hayley isn't your typical damsel in distress, although with her dysfunctional family, she could sure use some saving every now and then. Hayley runs her own business, makes her own decisions and doesn't need any man to come in and sweep her away from anything. She is tough on the outside because she has brothers that are constantly berating her, a father who is constantly stopping by to make amends with her for her childhood and a mother who makes her feel that she will never, ever be quite good enough.
The chemistry between Mitch and Hayley was pure fire from the beginning. You couldn't help but get caught up in their conversations, witty banter and friendship. They both weren't looking for anything more than some fun spending time together. Mitch joins Hayley at her pastry shop one morning to see how her desserts can benefit his restaurants. He has just recently bought Hayley's brother Parker's restaurant and the pastries in Hayley's shop are her main source of business.
But when situations test their friendship will they admit its more or will one of them walk away?
There is just something about the Knight brothers that just makes any girl **swoon**. They are handsome, family oriented and in amazing physical shape. Plus they all seem to be easy on the eyes. Every girl will have a picture of her perfect man while devouring this book. I know I had many versions of mine. The first book in The Knight Brothers series focused on Emma and Jake but we still get a good taste of Mitch and how he takes care of what is his. I for one was beyond excited when I realized "Standing By" was Mitch's love story. I couldn't wait to get into it!
Just another beautifully told story by Claudia Burgoa. Her writing gets me every single time. She really works hard to make the reader fall in love and also come to sympathize with her characters too. Every single one of them captures your heart in some unique way. I'm hoping Claudia plans on continuing on with this series of the Knight brothers.
A book I found sweet, romantic and light hearted. If you haven't read any of Claudia Y. Burgoa's books, what are you waiting for? Pick this one up, you won't be able to put it down.

Hayley is the owner of her own bakery and the utter disappointment of her entire family. Her parents never married, she is the result of her father’s extra-marital affair so most of her siblings, as well as her father’s ex-wives, have regarded her with distaste. Her own mother holds her to a higher standard, constantly criticizing her looks, her weight, her clothes…add to that her father thinks that she has wasted her future on her silly dream as a baker.
Mitch is one of the Knight twins we met in the first book, Getting By. He followed his dreams by going into the restaurant business and owns several restaurants within New York City. When he purchases Hayley’s brother’s restaurant Willows, he must enter into a partnership with Hayley to provide the baked goods for the restaurant. In the past Hayley and Mitch haven’t seen eye to eye on much of anything, but as they are forced to work together they find themselves forging an unlikely friendship.
When they both find themselves in Vegas, Hayley for her sister’s wedding and Mitch for his brother’s bachelor party, a drunken night finds them making a mistake that will change the course of their relationship and fighting to hide the nature of that relationship. It makes for some absolutely hilarious moments as well as some extremely tender moments as we find Hayley and Mitch’s relationship evolve into something much deeper than friendship.
When Hayley’s life is put in danger both she and Mitch find themselves coming to terms with what they mean to each other. What started as a drunken mistake quickly consumes them both and they find that they can’t live without each other; in whatever capacity they find themselves. But when Mitch pushes Hayley away can she ever forgive him? Mitch has a plan for the future, but where does Hayley fit into it?
I am a huge fan of Ms. Burgoa. Her stories tug at heartstrings and her alpha males are to die for. I absolutely loved Mitch, but I had a hard time connecting with Hayley. In many ways she came off as a petulant child and I had a tough time empathizing with her. I understand that her cutting helped her deal with the reality of a dysfunctional family of epic proportions, but I couldn’t get over her attitude that came across as bratty. The first half of the book lagged a little bit but by the halfway point, it had started to pick up and I found myself a lot more interested. In the end it was a sweet tale of finding love where you least expect it. I loved the transformation in Mitch and I can’t wait to read Liam’s story.
While this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone, however I highly suggest reading them in order, simply to get the full affect of the Knight brothers. A solid four stars.
This is a book that would have been perfect for First Impression Friday! This book was a whole load of confusing at the beginning. Seriously, talk about a crazy, messed-up family! I honestly couldn't keep track of who everyone in Hayley's family was, there definitely needs to be a family tree at the front of the book!
Hayley comes from a very rich family in New York, but she's not the average rich girl spending daddy's money. She broken away from the family expectations and opened her own bakery, being an independent woman, although that doesn't stop her family butting in and adding their thoughts on how she should run her life. I really liked this independent side to Hayley, it really made her an interesting character, especially with the hidden vulnerability she keeps concealed as it slowly wares away at her.
In Standing By the chapters alternate between Hayley and Mitch's POVs. I really liked Hayley's chapters, although honestly Mitch's did nothing for me. I felt like I gained absolutely nothing from his chapters. He's a nice enough character, I just preferred reading about him in Hayley's chapters rather than through his own. Maybe this all stems from the fact that a lot of the time I couldn't differentiate between the two chapters and was completely unaware of who's POV I was reading. In my opinion there needs to be a change in the narrative tone and the language used to distinguish between the characters. Yeah, there is a name at the beginning of each chapter, but a lot of the time I was reading on my Kindle App in the wee hours as I travelled on the train.
Standing By is a sequel, I never read the first book, but I don't feel that I missed out on anything or that my enjoyment of the Standing By was affected. That's why, in my opinion, you really don't need to read the first one in order to enjoy Standing By.
One thing that bugged me throughout reading was this question — what is Mitch's accent? There are references to him having a British accent but it was never outright stated. I would have really liked it to be a lot clearer. Other than that small issue I really liked Mitch, he sounded gorgeous (as most fictional men do) and he was so adorable and sweet behind the cocky and teasing persona.
I ended up really enjoying Standing By, it was perfect to read during my morning and evening train journeys.
Danita's Thoughts: Standing By was the first book I've read by this author and it was a great read. It grabbed me from page one and before I knew it I was done with the book. It left me wanting to read the first book of the series. There was a physical attraction between Mitch and Hayley but it definitely wasn't a 'love at first sight' for them. They were total opposites. Haley was serious where Mitch was living in the moment. He was all about having fun. The last thing he was looking for was love. Hayley had a childhood where she felt inadequate or a failure. She has a mother who makes her feel as if she will never meet her expectations, brothers who have nothing better to do than to berate her, a father who is always looking for forgiveness. This has made Hayley appear tough on the outside but mentally she is a mess. She's had enough domineering men in her family that she isn't looking to fall in love especially with a someone like Mitch. This story will leave you with the memory of it's memorable characters and it's one liners that couldn't do nothing but give you a fit of laughter.
Grade A+
Sarah's Thoughts: This was a bit of an odd read for me. If your looking for a stand out romance this isn’t it. The romance portion is very, very slow going….so much so that at times I’m wondering if there really is anything going on here at all romantically. Sometimes, I don’t mind it being drawn out, but this was a bit excessive, not to mention that when it did finally happen it seemed sort of – anti-climactic. It definitely didn’t feel like it was worth all the build-up, and for me that romance and angst is an integral part of the story so it was a bit of a downer for me with this book.
What really kept me reading was the very real familial relationships built up within the book, and ones which Hayley struggles with on a daily basis. In conjunction with that, Burgoa hits on a topic I have yet to see tackled in any other book, and she did not shy away from it…explaining in terms that I think readers would find easy to understand and sympathize with, giving Hayley a depth and reality that I found impossible to pull myself away from.
Hayley pulled at my heart strings. Claudia Burgoa built this story so that you truly felt like you were friends with Hayley and you understood all the crazy issues that had shaped her life. The family unit that Hayley functions within is bizarre – her Dad never married her Mom but she has siblings from 2 other marriages that he did have, this has left Hayley always believing she wasn't wanted/loved since her Dad never married her Mom. Her Mom, well, I don't know how anyone survives Caroline but Hayley tries. The bottom line is Hayley just wants to be loved unconditionally but every time she sees her parents there is some criticism/dig about who she is or how she lives her life which pushes her to find other ways to release this pain.
Mitch Knight was raised right – he knows how to treat a woman to make her feel special, he also works to protect and help those he loves. Mitch and Hayley didn't hit it off the first time they met but when their paths cross again, a kinship is formed. Yes, Mitch has an amazingly supportive family but he has failed at finding a full filling relationship with a woman and we learn that the few he had did some serious damage to his confidence/desire for a relationship. Mitch doesn't understand Hayley's lists and order that she builds her life around but then he spends a few days at the bakery and experiences her parent visits and a new appreciation is born.
Standing By is a beautiful story of finding romance in the least likely place. Neither Mitch or Hayley were looking for a relationship but as they work together to build up Hayley's bakery, the unexpected happens and feeling develop. Can Hayley trust what she feels for Mitch? Is she willing to risk having her heart broken? Will Mitch be able to get past his issues to embrace his feelings for Hayley?
4.5 Stars I think Claudia took a step up with this second book! I didn’t see any of the problems I saw present in the first book. It was a fast-paced read, and I couldn’t put it down! I felt a full array of emotions while reading, too. There was angst, excitement, sadness, romance, and plenty of comedy, too. I love how Mitch’s story felt so completely different from his brother’s as it should have. I also enjoyed seeing the growth that took place with the characters. Hayley herself struggled with overcoming her circumstances and while she’s striving in some areas, she’s very much floundering in others. I really enjoyed seeing her overcome. And what can I say about Mitch? He is absolutely amazing with Hayley! I loved that their relationship was built on so much more than lust as many romances are today. Don’t get me wrong, though, there’s still plenty of chemistry with this couple! But Mitch knew how to drive Hayley crazy, especially with his various nicknames all revolving around her baking business. But, he’s so completely supportive of her business and he’s willing to do what it takes to help her succeed when her family doesn’t. While there are some completely predictable moments in the story, it was still so much fun. Mitch and Hayley are absolutely comical together. Plus, there’s just the right amount of drama from outside the two of them to really make things interesting. I highly recommend this to all romance fans! If you haven’t picked up a Claudia Burgoa book yet, then start with this one! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed! Warnings: You can expect some strong language and sex scenes.
Hayley Roth-Welsh comes from a family of wealth and she dressed the part, finished school with the highest GPA, extra credits for College and could get into any Ivy League College she wanted to, but that changed when she turned 18. Hayley decided to take charge of her own life and open up her own little bakery called Pieces of Heaven. Hayley's family thinks it is just a hobby and that she will fail. Hayley's family is also very messed up and all she wants is to make them happy and for them to accept her for who she is. Mitch Knight is a very successful restaurant owner who has just purchased Willows restaurant that is just down the road from Pieces of Heaven and Hayley supplies muffins and cupcakes to them. Mitch comes from a very close knit family who support each other through everything. Hayley and Mitch don't seem to see eye to eye but can they work together?!?! Will sparks fly between the two of them on this journey?!?!
The relationship between Hayley and Mitch is tense but they both feed off each other really well. The chemistry between the two is so well written that you can almost see it play by play. I couldn't put this book down from the very beginning and once finished I didn't want it to end. This book can be read as a stand alone.
Nothing I didn't like about this book. I love Claudia's writing and she knows how to make all characters and scenes come to life. You feel like you are apart of this book.
If you have read any other of Claudia's stories then get reading this book ASAP even if you haven't start one clicking you will not be disappointed.
I absolutely loved this story! The style of writing and story development was quite matter-of-fact and fluid.
Hayley is a baker from a wealthy family of successful careerists. She has a brilliant mind but chooses to follow her passion rather than a staid career. She pursues an independent life, without the trappings of her upbringing. She is constantly striving to please everyone related to her, not least, her selfish, overbearing mother and her loving but critical father - to the detriment of her well-being, as she hides a very serious secret addiction. She might lead a virtually hermitic life outside of work, but she's pretty feisty and has a smart-mouth.
Mitch is not interested in a serious relationship or falling in love - having been burnt twice in the past. He is charming, generous, loyal and a successful businessman, from an equally wealthy family. I loved the banter he had with his brothers.
He's in Hayley's black books following a previous encounter, but their paths cross again when Mitch decides to buy her brother's restaurant. They make an effort to get along, but one drunken night in Vegas results in them getting hitched!
This is a very humorous story with a vein of darkness running through it. I can't believe how much I giggled but, at the same time, how much my heart hurt for Hayley.
I loved how their friending and relationship evolved - all the teasing, fondness and protectiveness between them - it was very gradual and natural. It was great to see the trust they built and the love that grew between them. Would highly recommend this story!
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
I've just realised that this boos is the 2nd in the series, I did not read the first but don't feel like it effected my enjoyment of this book.
Well where do I start with this plot??!! Poor Hayley has the most dysfunctional, over achieving family I have ever encountered or read about. I am not surprised that she had issues having grown up in several different houses, with several different 'step moms' and crazy siblings. All of her ex's turned out to be cheats, and not just with random girls, oh no, they slept with her Mam and sister, and yet Hayley was made to believe that it was her fault for being inadequate.
As I said, crazy.
Thankful Mitch enters the scene, an annoying boy from her past who has now matured into a more annoying man, but he's not annoying, he's cheeky, charming and as it turns out very sweet. In the beginning it seems that these two may hate each other, but as we all know the line between love and hate is very thin, and these two madly in love, they just don't know it yet.
There are plot twists, humour, and lots of sweet romance, mixed with serious issues like, rouge gun men, self harm, drug abuse and arson.
I really enjoyed this book, I was happy that Hayley followed her dream despite all the problems and discouragement her family gave her, and that she eventually found love with her soul mate.
I give this book 4.5 stars and would happily read more from this author
Everyone should know by now I'm a huge sucker for family book series.
First, we had Jake Knight in Getting By, twin to Mitchel Knight and the Knight brothers quickly hooked me.
Jake Knight is well on his way to finally marrying Emma, while Mitchel Knight is out growing his empire and staying as far away from love as he possibly can.
Haley Roth-Welsh is living part of her dream, but her family constant disapproval of her wears her down emotionally and then to top it all off she has to deal with the new owner of her brothers restaurant.
I love Mitch & Haley, Haley doesn't take Mitch's crap and their banter back and forth is just hilarious. Through their scheme to keep Mitch out of Emma's evil clutches Mitch and Haley become closer and closer, until fate takes over and steps in and everything unravels.
I love Standing By and I can't wait for the next book, Liam Knight batter up!
This is Mitch and Hayley's story. Mitch is the twin of Jake whom we met in the first book.
I must admit I wasn’t a big fan of the first book in this series. Maybe it was that I didn’t gel with the characters. This book was much better! Some of the banter between them was hilarious and the situations they got themselves into!! Their love came from out of nowhere..the slow burn was there, there was no insta-love, but also they seemed to slip seamlessly into love, that I almost missed the crucial point when it was declared!
This wasn’t really a hot and sexy book, more like a very sweet, young romance. I think the biggest selling point of this book has got to be the mischievous shenanigans that occur because of the Knight brothers! You would think they were all 12, not grown adults!
I thought this was a much better written book and I clicked more with these two than in the previous book.
Take a fly by the seat of his pants kind a guy and a girl who lives by taking notes and keeping lists. Throw in a lot of snark, sarcasm, some push and pull, you get two people are so perfect for each other.
Mitch and Hayley have a bit of a bumpy past together. Causing a bit of animosity between stubborn people. They are alike but in opposite ways. Kinda hard to explain but very funny to watch. For people who did not want to be around each other, they found a way to love one another.
A fast paced story with some comical characters and some plot twists. My one issues with Standing By, there were instances where I was confused as to who was talking. An overall good quick contemporary read.

This book was a great surprise! This is the story about two completely different people, that together complement each other.... Hayl is a fabulous baker who owns her bakery and struggles to stay firm in business, without her family support...She has many personal problems when it comes to family....And I have to say , they ate a real nightmare! When her brother sells his restaurant , which she supplies with her goodies, she is forced to deal with the new owner, Mitch, an old friend of her brother, who she isn't very fan of... Mitch is handsome , a very self assured man, who is gonna change Hayl's life..... Together they started to help each oyher, but mostly Mitch helps Hayl to be more confident to face her family... I'm not gonna tell the details, but together they start to built a relationship based on friendship, confidance and more..... They are funny, loving and great together, its really a good reading..... Thank you Claudia for the ARC given...
Standing By is the second book in the A Knight's Story series by Claudia Y. Burgoa. Like the first book, I absolutely love the Knight brothers. Mitch is no exception. I don't think there were ever two more stubborn people than Mitch and Hayley, and now they've met their match in each other. They butt heads from the start, and it is so funny to watch. Standing By had some unexpected drama mixed in with the humor, and I was pretty entertained from start to finish. I love getting to know each brother more and more in each book.
The ARC of Standing By by Claudia Y. Burgoa was kindly provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.
If you're looking for a story that's funny, endearing and frustrating (in a good way), this is it. No Spoilers.
Hayley is a by the book, making lists, follows a plan to the "t"'kind of girl. Mitch finds himself on her "bad" side by breaking one of her rules. They get thrown together when Mitch buys her brothers restaurant. Hayley and Mitch find themselves spending more and more time together because Mitch is determined to make Hayley like him. Adding more dimensions to the story is the relationship between Hayley and her family. They are literally the worse and its a wonder Hayley was able to survive. I couldn't put this book down and it was fun to see how Hayley and Mitch fought/reacted to their attraction to one another.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. The story was both complicated and yet simplistic that i was an easy and fast read. I found myself torn with loving and hating characters which makes for a good anxiety driven read. I wanted Muffet (loved the nicknames!) to toughen up where it counted finally and heal emotionally but at the same time I felt she had a strong personality but chose when to use it, ultimately making herself vulnerable around those who should have loved her unconditionally.. which just irritated me. But all fell into place and I enjoyed the volley between the two. The sub-characters were interesting and peaked my interest in hopes for more books in this series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author. Thanks for allowing me to read this.
I am adding Claudia Y. Burgoa to my author list!!! Loved this book
Standing By is written with a lot of humor... and another hot hot did I mention HOT Knight Brother!! This story is about Mitch Knight, and Hayley.... they are like oil and water at first... Mitch is just SO arrogant! lol but of course we all know that its just another way to get under a girls skin!! and then you add a drunken night in vegas... then an element of danger and BAM!! You get MITCH AND HAYLEY!!
It definitely wasn't an easy journey to their HEA... but with humor and writing that messes with your "feels"... it a great ride!!

Hayley had a rough upbringing and still deals with family drama that doesn't seem to disappear. Mitch doesn't do relationships and believes that love is overrated.
I absolutely loved the banter between Hayley and Mitch. The characters are funny, hardworking, dedicated, and have issues. They fit well together.
Hayley's family is just plain crazy and emotionally abusive. Luckily with Mitch by her side she learns to tap into her inner strength and finds a voice for herself. Hayley is a strong character and I like how much she grows and how much support she has in the end.
*** obsessed by books arc given for an honest review *** Mitchel is your typical bachelor sexy, and oh so full of himself. Hayley is seeking her independence and self worth in the world. These two fight like they are already married. Mitch has bought her brothers restaurants , which to Hayley that's were 50% of her income comes from. She is not happing knowing that Mitch being the new owner they will have to work together and it will not be easy to work with the arrogant Mitch Knight. I loves this story it was whitty sexy. I loved the banter between Hayley and Mitch. this is a 5 star read.
Loved this book. The main characters have good chemistry. There is just enough of the supporting characters to get to know them, without them being overwhelming. The flow of the story is superb, as is the plot. There is lots of humor with some mystery. I love how Claudia handled a sensitive topic without letting the heroine seem like a nut. She handles her problem in the end and comes out better for it. I can't wait to read more in this series. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I don't know where all these great authors are coming out of the rocks at but holy crap, Claudia Y. Burgoa is an amazing author! Just the perfect setting in this book! But that's all you will get from me.. You will have to read it for yourself and see what's going on! Amazing!
