Rate this book
Embark on an epic journey where ancient prophecies collide with celestial wonders, and a skeptic’s heart unveils the untold story of faith's quiet triumph.

The Fourth Magi transports you to 7 BCE, a time when the heavens declared the birth of a prophesied king, and three wise men prepared for an odyssey of hope and reverence. Yet, Artaban, the enigmatic fourth magi, remains unconvinced, even as duty binds him to join the pilgrimage across 900 miles to Judea.

Artaban’s journey is fraught with peril and promise as he navigates the political intrigue and deadly schemes concocted by the cruel King Herod. It is a path illuminated not only by a celestial star but by Artaban’s growing understanding of what true religion means. As he grapples with his doubts, Artaban is drawn into a transformative quest that reveals the ultimate sacrifice and the profound mystery of faith.

The Fourth Magi blends meticulous historical detail with a powerful narrative, casting new light on the Nativity's enduring story. Discover how doubt can turn into conviction and how the most precious gifts are those born from the heart.

Join Artaban in realizing that the greatest journey is not to find gold, frankincense, or myrrh, but the one true Messiah.

Loved it. Keeping this one, after I share it!

When I read a book like this, I don't simply want to read it..... I want it to be an experience! I like to imagine it as a movie, or place myself in the situation that the characters find themselves in. To that end, I've found that authors who focus on detailed descriptions of the scenes the characters find themselves in, the thoughts they're having and emotions they are experiencing make it so much easier to really 'experience' a book. I also really appreciarte carefully crafted dialogues between the characters that draw you into their inner world, into the various dynamics of their relationships, and into their interactions within the physical circumstances they find themselves in. And of course..... every great story has to have unexpected twists and turns that keep you drawn into it.

Well..... this book has it all. Seriously, I loved it! The dialogues are brilliant. It is incredibly descriptive! And there are plenty of unexpected twists and turns that keep you reading 'just one more chapter', again and again! The other aspect of this story that really impacted me personally was just how many times I found myself identifying with the various characters at the different points in their individual journeys. There were several times when the thoughts they were having or the emotions they were experiencing or the questions they were pondering were literally some of the same thoughts, questions and emotions I was personally having in my own current personal life circumstances. It was so helpful and also so encouraging to have the feeling that I'm not the only one thinking and feeling and asking these things. When a book can have that kind of impact on you, it's something very special.

I hope many people will read this book and be as touched, encouraged, and inspired as I have been! Reading it truly was a wonderful 'experience'!

One final thing I'd like to note..... there were three other aspects of this book that really enhanced my 'experience' of this story. The first one was the audiobook narration. Wow..... the man who did the narration for the audiobook was phenominal. Seriously! I would often close my eyes while listening to the book, and could literally imagine the story being played out as a movie.

The second feature I really loved were the illustrations at the beginning of each chapter. They really give a great visual image that captures the focus of each chapter. As I often do, I got both the audio book and the Kindle eBook. This way I can follow along when I want, or simply close my eyes and listen (and imagine) at other times. Apparently these illustrations are only presented in full colour in the eBook version. In the print version that are all in black and white. So, even if you just want to read the book..... if you are a visual type person, I would definitely recommend getting the Kindle eBook, as the full colour illustrations really do add another layer to this amazing story.

The final feature I want to highlight is the free bonus content you get access to at the end of the book. This bonus content includes some of the scholarly articles, timelines and artists renderings that the author drew from as part of his research for this book. It also includes a Q&A section that addresses some questions people may have...... which is great, because it actually addressed a couple of the specific questions I had, after reading the book!

The Bible just touches on the story of the Magi (Three Wise Men) traveling to Bethlehem to see the Messiah. This book creates a wonderful background on this aspect of the miraculous birth of Jesus. I learned a lot about the history of the times and the possible dangers that the Magi encountered on their trip. The author brings these characters to life and you can almost see the story unfold as you listen to their tale.

I have been fascinated by Biblical prophecy for a long time, so I especially enjoyed the way the author weaved in prophecy from Daniel into this book.

The book is also a story of faith, both lost and found, as the narrator/fourth Magi struggles with his beliefs. The narrator did a great job and his different voices and inflections brought the story to life. This is a great listen for anyone wanting to know more about this fascinating part of the Christmas story or anyone interested in Biblical fiction.

Audiobook: I enjoyed this reimagining of the events which occurred in the journey of the Magi as they interpreted the skies and then began their expedition seeking answers. The descriptive phrases made me feel like I was there with the characters. The story evoked new thoughts for me regarding this historical event, and it increased my admiration for those who undertook this difficult and often dangerous excursion. I thought Andy Robert's narration was good. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

Canter provides a thoughtful and thorough recounting of a blessed Christmas event, adding intrigue, danger and meaning as he explores what possibly could have taken place in the journey of the magi to worship the Christ child. You will be blessed by reading this during Advent as you prepare for Christmas worship. Canter's fictional version does an amazing job of capturing the ways humans doubt the miracles of God's kingdom. You will relate to Artaban's thought process and mindset, and you will delight when Faith opens his eyes to the gift of Jesus! I highly recommend this book.

The author writes a compelling tale of the Magi, interweaving fiction and serious research into the story of the Star of Bethlehem and the astronomers who followed it to meet the newborn King. Canter's work and storyline follow the actual appearance of the bright conjunction of planets that have been historically recorded. His interjection of another magus's skepticism and doubts along the journey adds to the search for the newborn ruler. Believers accept that there were three gifts given, but scripture never mentions how many Magi arrived in Bethlehem. This book is a must-read for all.

interesting take on part of the Christmas story

Fiction based on fact.
Background info on the magi astronomers who came from the east because of an astronomical event that they discovered had historical references and worldwide implications. Fascinating.
