Subject: Congratulations! We are thrilled to offer you an advance on your next book!

The moment I got that email, I swore my days of being a broke indie author were officially over.

I bought a new house, traveled, splurged on things I definitely didn’t need… and, um—kind of forgot to actually write the book.

By the time my deadline rolled around, I had almost nothing to show for it. My endless “Just need a little more time for my muse” excuses weren’t cutting it anymore.

So, I swallowed my pride and came clean—while hatching a plan to get “inspiration” and pay back some of the advance at the same time. The plan? Get a job at the very publishing company that gave me the deal, so I could:

1) Make money to keep a roof over my head.

2) Start repaying the advance.

3) Gather firsthand material for the office romance I was two years late delivering.

It sounded like a good idea… until I actually got the job.

Until I realized the CEO of the publishing house was an arrogant, cunning wolf in a bespoke suit—

The same man I told to f*ck off two nights ago.

The same man I may have thrown a drink on (but that’s a story for another day).

Now I swear being his so-called “intern” is an exercise in hell… and from the way he’s circling me, I have no intention of being his prey.

Allyson Harmony, aka Heather Barrett, has finally made it as an author with a hefty advance on her next book to prove it. Except she spends so much time - and money - chasing her muse, she never actually wrote the book.

Fed up with her flimsy excuses, Adrian Wolfson, CEO of Grey Wolf Publishing, demands she repay the advance. Out of options she talks her way into a job at the publisher and makes a plan.

I always love Whitney’s characters – the brooding, grumpy MMC and the sexy FMC with uncontrollable snark! I love these quick, steamy reads that are perfect palate cleansers between long and/or dark reads. Looking forward to Devilish Bully, the next in the Steamy Latte Reads Collection.

3.5 book-writing stars

I rounded up because this was a fun one!

Heather (aka Allyson Harmony) has been trying to get out of a huuuuge writing slump 😅… as in… she’s been traveling, and shopping, and buying a house, and and and NOT writing the book she should’ve been writing 🤣🤣🤣🫣🫣🫣.

So when the publishing company that gave her the advance is tired of her excuses and needs her to produce the books she promised to have done, she can’t 😬; her excuses no longer matter 😅, and now she has to pay back the money that was given to her 🫠.

But, she doesn’t have it 😅. So she starts working as a barista to try to earn SOMETHING, and on that same day, she gets an a hole customer 😬, one she spells coffee on 🫠.

When she goes to Grey Wolf Publishing Company and she meets the owner, it’s none other than the same a hole Customer she spilled coffee on the other day, Adrian 😅.

Whoops 🤣.

She’s gonna have to either finish the books she needed to finish or find a way to get out of this mess 😬

What I liked: possible spoilers
—how realistic writing a book is portrayed 😅. It kind of made me feel bad all the times I feel irritated when books that I’ve been waiting for don’t get published 🫣

—the tension 👀. I always love me a grumpy H with a smart alec h 🤣

—the 🔥. It’s a short ish read, so it goes by fast and we don’t get many scenes (or long ones). First kiss happens at about 40%, by 60% he tastes her 🥵 💦after give her a foot massage 😉and by 74% full 🔥

—the promo boxes made me laugh 🤣 loved them 👏🏻

—not giving into him 💅 I loved that she stood her ground when he wasn’t willing to commit 🤷🏻‍♀️

—the cute epilogue 🫶🏻

—the little “twist” 😅. I didn’t realize it 😅 who

What I didn’t like/wanted more of:
—for this to be longer 😅. It moves so fast. I would’ve loved there to be more development

—longer 🔥 scenes 🤣

Overall, I enjoyed this one more in the first one ❤️

Definitely way better than the first one. And I'm glad that finally, there's certainty at the end, and the readers weren't expected to imagine their version of HEA. 😅

Whitney G. strikes again with a sharp, addictive office romance that delivered all that it promised. The setup was pure fun and the characters were bold, flawed, and endlessly entertaining, exactly the kind I love to root for even when they’re driving each other crazy. Especially because they’re driving each other crazy! The banter was top notch, the chemistry was sizzling, and I couldn’t stop grinning at their push and pull dynamics. Fast paced, witty, and downright sexy. This was Whitney G. at her best, and I devoured every single page.

This is the second book in this collection, and this is Adrian and Heather’s story.
Heather is a broke author, and when a publishing house offers her an advance on her next book, she is ecstatic, and buys a house, travels, and splurges on whatever she wants whether she needs it or not, only problem is, she forgot to write the book. When she keeps extending deadlines, the publishing house wants their money back, so she gets a job there as an intern to the CEO Adrian, the same man she had an encounter with a few days before.
This is a well written story which is easy to read, with enemies / lovers, witty banter, humour, close proximity, boss / employee, workplace romance, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and fun, addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Oh my... I had such a blast reading this one and I have to say, Whitney G can make me read a quick novella and make me instantly feel gripped and fall for the story so hard... Ahhh... This one was a perfect balance of Steam and fun and banter.

The first freaking page pulls you into the story and instantly gives us a clear picture of what's wrong and how our female lead has been going a bit cray cray or a lot I guess.
Questionable decisions and carelessness, brings a glaring wakeup call for Heather when she realizes that she has to give back the huge advance for her book when 1. She doesn't even have a manuscript ready and 2. It's a HUGE AMOUNT.

I seriously doubted the Blurb at first, I mean why would a publishing house hire the very author who has been sorta on their blacklist but OH MY.. This has been done so tastefully and in a way that leads to Straight A kind of banter and mischievousness.

This one was strongly enemies love to hateeee you vibes all over.
Adrian Wolf is the CEO of the publishing house and he is very particular about running his business.
Honestly, he comes across as cold and rude yet I loved his discipline and there's a reason he operates the way he does, so that his business is run smoothly.

But the way he would speak to Heather, I felt was so proper for her because Heather really needed a man like him. She's so rude, really back talks too much at times and yet our author makes you feel for her, to some extent.
I was so into the story, the bantering and the throwing of barbs that I was waiting to see how would this two ever come close.

Mind you, the chemsitry between them is fire... That scene where Adrian outright says to Heather about how attracted he is to her... WITH JUST A LOOK... OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS. That man is dayummm HOTTT.

There's also this little secret about him that I loved and especially because how important that is.

This one was super fun and is perfect for when you need something quick and fun and steamy. Loved this one.

Read if you like:
🐺 Arrogant alpha CEOs
📚 Office romance with a twist
🔥 Forced proximity (intern/CEO)
😂 Banter + bad first impressions
💋 Quick, spicy novellas

📚 What starts with a dream book deal turns into a hilarious spiral for Heather, a broke romance author who spends her advance without writing the actual book. Desperate, she takes a job at the publishing house that signed her—only to realize her new boss is the same arrogant guy she cursed out and doused with a drink two nights ago.

👨‍👧 Adrian is the classic Whitney G. alpha—intelligent, ruthless, and maddeningly smug. Heather is chaotic, impulsive, and definitely not ready to take responsibility… which makes for plenty of sparks. Their clashing dynamic is the highlight of this short novella.

💞 The chemistry? Instant. The spice? Solid. The enemies-to-lovers setup mixed with workplace tension hits just right. There’s a playful push-pull that makes their romance feel fast-paced but satisfying, especially for novella length.

👧 Not many side characters get page time, but Heather’s internal monologue is loud enough to count for three people. 😂 She’s a lot—which is entertaining, even if at times, a bit bratty.

✍️ Whitney G. shines in what she does best: bold humor, delicious tension, and snappy dialogue. This was the perfect quick escape when I wanted something light and sexy.

🌟 While I didn’t love Heather’s unwillingness to take accountability (she really didn't want to admit fault 😅), I flew through this and had fun. It’s a one-sitting kind of read—and if you enjoy office enemies-to-lovers with steam and sass, you’ll have a good time.

Sometimes I’m in the mood for a short novella. I have an entire TBR list of novellas for when that mood strikes. It contains a full range of themes, from the smuttiest of the smut, the darkest of the dark, the tabooist of the taboo, and everything in between—you get the idea. I like variety. Author Whitney G. falls into that category, which is everything in between for me. She writes various books, from full-length stories, suspenseful, angsty, forbidden love, rom-coms, to novellas.

Wolfish Player is a short office romance novella that was the ideal read for me. Adrian is an arrogant alpha CEO of a publishing house, and Heather is a romance writer who is overdue in submitting her book, already using her advance. The two start on the wrong foot when they meet and don’t realize who they are to each other until the next day. Whitney G.’s humor shines through once again in this story, and though it was short, there’s good spice as well.

Heather is in a major writing slump and needs to pay back the publisher and get inspiration for her book. Adrian the CEO of the publishing company may be able to help her do both those things. She gets a job as his assistant and irritates him to no end but the two start hooking up and he actually reads her books and finds himself needing to know what happens just as much as her fans do.
This was a good, short novella. Whitney G. really knows how to write the banter between two characters and I liked that Adrian Wolfson wasn't completely heartless and had a soft spot for the books he wrote and read. Heather was strong female if not a little delusional but over all this book was cute.

Loved This!

I really loved this book. Not quite as much as the first one in the series (I read it twice in 48 hours). At first I was a bit annoyed with the heroine by acting so flippant about so many things but I came around on her. I liked Adrian a lot even if he was kind of an @$$.

Even if I didn’t like the romance QUITE as much as the first book, this one had something really special about it. I connected with it quite a bit and I can only assume it’s because it’s about a writer and a publisher and that world is dear to me. I’m excited to read the full length novel that our heroine “wrote” (Whitney G is actually releasing it as its own book).

I think I’ve talked myself into reading the first one again lol.

Allyson Harmony aka Heather was thrilled when a publisher wanted her book and sent her an advance to write it but she kept needing extensions. That does not sit well with CEO of Grey Wild Publishing, Adrian Wolfson so he ask for a refund!! Um WHAT!?! Heather is not about to let this Man win….or is she? What a funny, enemies to lovers romance. Heather sure is a little out there lol but it works. Told in first person and dual POV.

I was hooked from the beginning because Heather is the kind of irreverent, snarky, smart and competent female main character I really enjoy. She’s unconventional and uncompromising when it comes to important matters.

Adrian is the hot, all business, dedicated successful man that is not used to people standing up to him or forgetting he’s the boss. He finds her impertinence irresistible. The result is a steamy, amusing office romance set in the book publishing world.

Wolfish Player

What a cute, funny, full of back and forth banter between two people who are both stubborn about their opinions. She has writers block, and he is the CEO of the publishing company that is making her life very difficult due to her block. You know what they say about opposites attract, it’s definitely true. She tests his every last nerve, and he pushes her every button.great story.

This was a fun, quick read! Adrian and Heather’s interactions—and the chemistry that slowly builds between them—were genuinely entertaining to watch. I especially enjoyed the behind-the-scenes look at the publishing world, which felt very realistic, particularly the portrayal of writer’s block. The epilogue was a great finishing touch and tied everything together nicely.

For a short, quick book this was actually pretty good. It was fast paced even though Adrian and Heather did dance around their attraction for a bit. I’ll say it was better than the first one because at least you felt closure in this book and you got some vulnerability with Adrian. It was a nice touch to have him bounce between professional and saying things he finds attractive with Heather. It showed that he can’t have his control all the time but knew when to give into losing it and keeping it. The little touches and longing glances, combined with the moments he had to touch her and have her were nice teases to the reader until he could fully immerse himself in her. It was almost to the point but not without some foreplay first. I liked that a lot about this book, it felt intimate and natural. Adrian wasn’t hiding his attraction to her, but wanted to keep it professional and clean to a degree at work. I enjoyed their banter and felt like you did get a glimpse at who Heather and Adrian were personally with little surprises throughout the book, all of them involving Adrian. On top of that, he helps get her inspiration back to write and you saw that progress as the book went on and I loved that for her. With Heather what you read is what you got. I would have liked more personal things told to us about her and more deep conversations between Adrian and Heather, but I’ll take what this gave us and honestly this is the only thing that is affecting my decision between giving this a 4 or a 5. Ultimately I settled on a 5 because this literally had everything I like in a workplace romance, banter, heated glances, longing looks and moments where the hero and heroine have to have each other and cannot handle the foreplay anymore or desire so they just go for it and don’t think about it. It was very in the moment and I liked that about the story. Then there was the glimpses of who Adrian is behind the CEO and a secret that gets revealed about him you wouldn’t see coming, even if it was something small, not life changing but an added bonus. I flew through this book and each chapter had me wanting more so I kept going. This flowed so easily and I kept wanting to see what will come of the situation in the previous chapters. This was very well done and I hope the next book does the same.

✨🐺☕ ARC Review: Wolfish Player by Whitney G. ☕🐺✨

Oh. My. God. My Whitney has done it again! 😍 The moment I cracked open Wolfish Player, I knew I wasn’t putting it down until the last word was devoured (and yes, I lost sleep over this one and regret nothing).

This book is peak "Whitney —witty banter" that makes you laugh-snort, sexual tension so thick it could set the pages on fire 🔥, and that signature arrogant, maddeningly irresistible hero who you know you should hate… but end up completely obsessed with anyway. The chemistry between the leads? Off-the-charts electric ⚡ (I swear my Kindle overheated a few times).

I loved the setup: a broke author turned “intern” in the lion’s (or should I say wolf’s 🐺) den, forced to work under the very man she definitely shouldn’t want. The push-pull, the snarky comebacks, the delicious slow-burn that explodes into pure steam—it’s all here, and it is so very addictive & in the best way.

What makes Whitney G.’s writing so special is how she balances fun and feels. One moment you’re cackling at the heroine’s sass, the next you’re clutching your chest because the hero says (or does 👀) something that melts you completely. And don’t even get me started on that ending—it was everything! ✨

This book was witty, sexy, laugh-out-loud hilarious, and utterly unputdownable. A total 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read and easily one of my favorite Whitney G. romances yet. If you love arrogant CEOs, feisty heroines, enemies-to-lovers tension, and writing that makes you grin like an idiot while fanning yourself—this is the book you NEED in your life.

Whitney, thank you for blessing us with this wolfishly perfect story 🐺💼❤️ Can’t wait for more from the Steamy Latte Reads series! ☕

Wolfish Player is another comedic office romance by Whitney G. The leading man in this opposites attract office romance, Adrian, is a sexy, workaholic Publishing CEO with a secret hero complex, but mostly just for the leading lady, Heather. And Heather desperately needs his help! She is very broke, but this is only because she spent all her money including the advance Adrian’s publishing firm gave her for her next book in a series on vacations and random classes. She might need these things because she is a writer and she needs inspiration from the real world to create her book world but, girl, really you need to manage your funds for a rainy day. Ever heard of investing? Anywho.

Lucky for Heather, who sucks at peopling it seems, Adrian forces her to work at his publishing firm to earn money to payback her advance for breach of contract (because she never found inspiration for her book traveling all over the world). This turns out to be a windfall for Adrian, who also sucks at peopling, because Heather understands the problems writers have and she is able to schmooze all the other writers that are behind in their books to get their writing done.

Their unlikely meet-up is full of witty dialogue and illustrates their sizzling chemistry.
The banter between Adrian and Heather (and them with every other character) is one of the book’s biggest highlights. Their love/hate relationship brings a perfect mix of humor and tension, keeping you engaged from start to finish.

This was another quick and tasty read by Whitney G. Set in the publishing world with a boss/employee trope, Heather has missed her deadline for her highly anticipated romance book. When her request for a year extension is denied, she's also hit with a termination of her contract which means she needs to pay back the generous advance she'd already been paid... and completely blown. With a severe case of writer's block, she's forced to get a job to start paying back the money she owes, ending up at her former publisher's office and working for the rich and arrogant Adrian. Sparks fly, the chemistry is hot and once again, this author has delivered a quick, entertaining read.

I love Whitney G.'s male leads and Adrian is another winner. Deliciousness in a suit with the female MC as his only weakness leads to great banter with a good dash of sarcasm. There was a little bit of eyebrow raising with Heather's choices - how is someone that irresponsible with that much money that they basically end up broke? And when they're in that much financial trouble, they go out of their way to be difficult and unable to hold down employment? Why, I ask?! The whole 'throwing the drink on my new boss' thing was a stretch, too - he hadn't been a massive jerk so for Heather to go to that level came off more immature than anything. Despite that, the office romance was good fun and I'm really enjoying this series. There's a happy ending without too much angst and with just the right amount of steam so I'm a happy chappy.

Nothing better than a hot office romance with a lot of “hate” involved!

I loved this story! Hot CEO that loves control and a highly intelligent woman that is a hot mess at the moment!

There is nothing better than an author writing about a publishing company with a writing storyline!

Adrian is the CEO of a company! It’s his job to make sure to land the right author, get the books on time, market and sell the books, and to find the next big one!
Adrian is more than the polished CEO (read to find out how much more) and in this story he has to find a way for Heather to repay what she owes!

Heather is a writer that had a great romance release! After securing a huge advance on the next book the pressure to deliver (or better yet spend all the money) creates a dry spell with writers block!
CEO demands the book or repayment of the advance! Heather takes on a few odd jobs but nothing can help make a dent into this debt so why know work for the wolf himself!

Banter, chaos, inspiration (or motivation) wins out and Heather may find someone who understands everything she is going through! With no strings attached…or maybe a few!

I love WG’s writing style and the stories grab you from the beginning! The characters are intertwined to create the best books! WG completes our fantasies = rich guy ✔️the girl is desperate for success (but always is super smart and knows their worth) and smoking hot sex scenes!
What more are you looking for in a story?

ARC provided by author in exchange for honest review.

This is the second book in the steamy latte reads collection.

Heather is an author who was just offered an advance on her next book. But she finds herself in some trouble when she spends the advancement money & has no book to publish. Until she can find inspiration to write again, she needs to get a job because her excuses have ran out & they want their money back. So what better thing to do then get a job at the publishing company that gave her the deal?! That is until she realizes the CEO of the place is a guy she had a not so nice encounter with a few days before.

Another office romance novella?! Sign me up! Those are my favorite kind of books. I was smiling so hard that my face hurt. I love banter between characters. Heather was defiant, funny, sarcastic. Adrian was broody at times & cocky but you can’t help but love him.

I honestly think if anyone ever asked me, “you can only pick one author to read for the rest of your life, who would it be?” I’d pick Whitney. I really have not read a book by her I haven’t liked.

I devoured this book in one sitting! I loved the characters. I loved the setting. I loved the job. Everything was so good. I’m telling you, if you haven’t read anything by Whitney, stop waiting. Her books will make you laugh out loud & have you swooning over the male hero. Such a fun fast paced read & I can’t wait for the next book in the collection!

These little novella's are killing me. They are so darn good that I wish they could be longer. But I'm not going to complain because when it comes to Whitney G.'s books, I will devour them however long it takes me.

In this short story, we get a feisty writer who happens to get writer's block and can't commit to her deadline. She's asked for so many extensions that it got to the point where the publishing company said no more. Now she either better get her brain working or start working a full time job or jobs to pay back the advance she received for the book and wasted.

She's just so bad at all the jobs she gets that she either ends up quitting or getting fired and she's just such a little spitfire. When she meets Mr. Wolfson, she never imagined who he was especially with the way she treated him at the bar. I was laughing with her antics and she just honestly didn't care if she would end up with a job or not. Turns out she gets a job at the publishing company where Mr. Wolfson works and as his assistant, you could just imagine the nightmare she makes him go through.

I was lmao. Whitney never ceases to amaze me with her writing. She's just so darn good with her stories and they are hard not to read, so addicting. LOVE THEM ALL!

Wolfish Player was such an incredible story. I laughed and swooned and could not put it down.

Heather is an author who has been offered a large sum of money as an advance on her next book from her publishing company. She is excited to see this type of money so she goes and buys a house, travels, and spends it on whatever she wants. She was having so much fun spending the money that she didn't write the book. Her editor tells her that she has to pay the money back so she has to go and get a job. Heather is a walking klutz and fails at most of the jobs she tries. She is forced to try to get a job at the publishing company so she can pay back their money.

Adrian is the owner of the publishing house. He is arrogant and grumpy. When he meets Heather for her interview they realize that they had previously met while she was bartending at a previous job. Heather stands up to him and eventually she gets the job.

The chemistry between Heather and Adrian is so great. I loved their banter. Heather was strong and stood up for herself. Adrian wasn't used to that. Highly recommended.

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy for an honest review.

Wolfish Player is a short, steamy delight that’s part of the author’s steamy latte reads collection. When Heather receives an advance from Grey Wolf Publishing, she splurges on a house, luxury vacations, and a flashy new car—everything except writing her next book. Now, with all her deadline extensions exhausted, the CEO demands either a finished manuscript or repayment of the bonus. What’s a girl to do? Get a job, of course. But when that job lands her in the office of the very man she owes—and the chemistry between them crackles—the sparks are impossible to ignore.

This novella is packed with snarky banter and sharp-witted characters that keep you hooked from page one. Heather and Adrian’s fiery dynamic is a rollercoaster of flirtation, tension, and irresistible attraction. Their verbal sparring and undeniable pull make for a deliciously combative romance that’s as entertaining as it is steamy. I loved watching them try (and fail) to keep things professional.

Quick, fun, and utterly addictive—I devoured Wolfish Player in a single sitting.

Wolfish Player is a fun and steamy journey that is sure to delight and entertain. There are serious moment of tears and heartache mixed with times of sexy discovery and intoxicating delight. Both weaved together an unforgettable enchanting story that proved to enthrall every step of the way. Few things are as good as a Whitney G story no matter who the characters happen to be.

I enjoyed watching Heather and Adrian circle each other outside and during the job. The anticipation was enough that you could cut it with a knife, but the tender and vulnerable heart found within these pages was even more precious then their electric connection. Helping each other through a tough breakthrough proved to be the glue that brought them together and held through good and bad times.

This book is a fabulously steamy treat that every enthusiastic romance reader needs to devour. It is whip smart, full of heart, and chock full of self discovery. It is a perfectly well rounded adventure that deserves your love and admiration, so please give it a chance.

given this arc for an honest review:

this 2nd book in the steamy latte reads collection was better than the first.

the storyline takes place in the world of publishing. heather is a lazy author & she eventually finds a job at wolf associates where she meets her boss & ceo, adrian wolf. you can automatically feel the tension b/t these two & eventually adrian succumbs to his primal urges. as time goes by, there was never any commitment from adrian until heather gets fed up w/the secrecy & "leaves" her job. this upsets adrian as he as been calling & texting w/no responses. when heather returns to the office, adrian sees the light & now they are in an exclusive relationship.

as usual wg knows how to write characters that get you annoyed, but eventually get to love. adrian was an especially well written character & you could feel the tension in the air.

i enjoyed this novella & can't wait for the 3rd installment.

I love this kind of novella. I know it's going to be filled with laughs and a challenging couple.

Heather and Adrian didn't disappoint. She comes up as a bit unhinged and he cannot be bothered to be polite even if it kills him. However, I smiled and laughed a few times with their belligerant relationship.

I absolutely loved the office romance combined with the publishing industry. It's crazy fun. Writer's block, launching campaigns and book tours take here a sometimes dreamy and oftentimes chaotic turn. The CEO is a devil and his employees are saints, but they love their work because writing and reading stories is the best thing ever. Yay.

I read the story in one go to enjoy the passion for romance stories, readers's commitment to cliffhangers, the author's wild sence of humor and the twisty ending. Steamy, sardonic, fun. Perfect.

Heather is a writer and really needs to complete her book series, her contract demands it. But a week, a month, a year, goes by and nothing..not one word. Her best friend submits another extension request but it’s denied, and now they want their advance back. With no job and no words, no money, and now a huge debt owned, Heather doesn’t know what she is going to do. But she must get a job. Numerous jobs don’t work out and she ends up working for the company that she owes the debt to. And her and the CEO, Adrian, do not get along.

This was just ok for me. I have to be honest and I felt Heather was a brat. Not wanting to admit that anything was her fault or pay the price for her actions. That being said, everyone likes something different, so this is an easy to read novella and give it try.
