This book immediately hooked me with its prologue. A strong, brooding rich guy crushed under the weight of his family's legacy? Definitely, yes. Then we get thrown into a BDSM club run by an older ex-Marine, and it gets even more wild. So we have an age gap, marine, rich guy, and sports romance tropes all crammed in to one story which sounds right up my alley.

The writing is solid, and the chemistry between the main characters is there. Once the story focuses on them, the dynamic is fun. The brat and dom banter made me laugh. I love the emphasis on how important communication is in the BDSM community. The spice is definitely spicy.

However, I did have one struggle with this book. While this is labeled as the first book in a series, it relies heavily on side characters from multiple other series by this author. If you've read those books, I imagine this story is satisfying, as the side characters remain a big focus. But expecting a standalone, I found it took too long to switch focus to the main couple. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out who was who and what was going on.

I'm giving this 3 stars because it's not poorly written, and I can absolutely see why others would love it. But if you haven't read the author's other work this may be difficult.

I really enjoyed this book! I’ll admit, I was expecting a little more of the kinky club scenes because HELLO… a Marine owning a kink club?! I was ready to be FED😂 The author clearly knows their way around the kink scene, and I really appreciated how that knowledge came through. I just felt like something was missing when they were discussing hard limits;I kept waiting to actually see more of that dynamic explored. 😅

One thing I absolutely LOVED was the respect shown toward the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as the thoughtful way neurodivergent people are treated. Representation and inclusivity? YES. We love to see it🥹💖

The spice level is more medium-steamy, but that DIRTY MOUTH?! 🥵🔥 Sir, please. Or should I say Daddy?

And one of my favorite parts was seeing the dynamic of violence surrounding one of the MMCs and how his Daddy Dom steps in to protect him. The protectiveness, the care, the “you are NOT going through this alone” energy… it’s so good 😭❤️

Overall, I really enjoyed this one! It had kink, hockey, a protective Daddy Dom, emotional moments, and just enough spice to keep me happily turning those pages. 💕🏒🔥

Trey has to excel in hockey as the third generation in his family to play plus his figure skating mom, so it's in his blood. Good thing he's awesome at it but his family sucks all the pleasure from it by applying massive pressure. Slone enters his life, a former marine and Daddy Dom giving him the love, guidance and relief he needs to function and relax. In this super steamy book, Slone is his protector, lover and becomes his all. I could read and reread this one over and over. I received a copy of this through BookSprout and this is my voluntary opinion.

I'm hooked!

Y'all, this is a hockey romance. Seriously. Lots of hockey, but plenty of spicy hurt-comfort to balance it out. Mild kink, or at least it was to me, but it suited the characters well.

Oh my god this is my first book by this author and oh boy did I have a good time! This story is about a hockey player named Trey who’s being controlled by his dad and grandfather who were hockey legacies and Sloan a marine and owner of a kink club who’s feeling down and that all changes when he goes to a hockey game and sees Trey! They both have that immediate connection and Trey shows off! They don’t actually talk and connect until months later when they are both at a hockey game in Nashville the connection is instant and it’s steamy but because treys dad texted and Trey got beyond drunk but Sloan took care of him but when they got home it took months before they got together again! While they did some stuff together they didn’t fully commit to a Dom/Sub relationship until the rules were established which made me giggle because Trey is an absolute brat while reading them! What I didn’t expect from this book was how sweet their relationship was like yes rules kin’s spice! But the way Sloan took care of him like it was just what Trey needed because his life was a mess
His dad and grandfather held everything over his head his trust his nhl contract everything and they called him stupid made fun of him because he was pan sexual! The threats always came from his dad who warned him he would be cut off if he didn’t come to New York for the summer so he went but when he called Sloan with that voice that said he was in trouble Sloan was on it but the rage Sloan felt when he saw the black eye! I love how Sloan just went no questions asked he wasn’t gonna let anyone hurt his boy! Sloan promised to be on his best behaviour and he was until him and Trey overhead his dad talking to someone who was connected to Trey’s nhl contract! Trey lost it and when Sloan saw treys dad smack him oooooooh it was on right there! Marine Sloan whooped him!
I love that Sloan had the connections to see what was truly up with treys nhl contract of course his dad was screwing him over but Trey finally got the call he was needed on the team but he couldn’t go play where his dad and grandpas legacy was but he spoke his mind and told them why he wanted to stay in Minnesota his Sloan was in Minnesota and he didn’t want to be apart! When Trey got the call and went home to Sloan and showed him the jersey that was one of my favourite moments because it showed how scared Sloan was of losing him!
This was so so good! It had a lot of spicy moments I expected more maybe BUT the mouth on Sloan!! Damn that man knew how to speak! I loved the texting between them and I loved how much of a natural brat Trey was! I absolutely loved the rules and giggled at them so much!
Trey didn’t know what he needed but Sloan was the perfect dom and daddy for him because he took care of all of treys needs and he knew exactly what Trey needed in good and bad times! And the I love yous were absolutely perfect!

I want to hug Trey so tight and never let him go😭 The psychological trauma this kid went through had me crying. I hated his father for treating him like that. He didn’t care about how much he was hurting his son or how much pressure he was putting him through.

All Trey wanted was to be seen as himself. Not the son of two legacy parents. He wanted to be know for his talent on the ice not because of how many cups and medals his parents and grandfather had won.

Wanting to be himself shouldn’t have come at such a high cost. It shouldn’t have been the reason he had not gone pro. But his father wanted to punish him for him not falling in line with his demands.

Acting out was Trey’s way of wanting to be seen but it only made him look bad. To everyone else, he was just seeking attention but to Sloan, he was asking for help.

The first time Sloan saw Trey, all of his Daddy instincts went on high alert. Even without knowing who the boy was, he could tell that Trey wanted someone to see HIM, not his last name.

Sloan had been feeling out of sorts and didn’t know why. He wasn’t his usual self, which worried his friends. As a former marine, going to dark places was very common and it’s how easy it is to go to those places that had his friends worried.

They were worried about his well being and figured he needed to find a boy of his own to take care of. But he never expected that boy to be Trey. He was too young and too wild for Sloan’s taste yet something about Trey just called to him.

Sloan felt that he could be the one who could give Trey what he needed. He could be the one to make his pain go away or at least lessen it. Sloan knew he could take care of Trey in a way that would allow him to be himself and thrive.

Trey had never felt so seen and cherished than when he was with Sloan. He gave him a safe place where he could remember the amazing player he was, but most importantly, a reminder that he was more than his last name.

In only a few weeks, Sloan managed to give Trey the love and attention he spent years craving from his family. He made him believe and love himself in a way he never thought he could.

Sloan putting Trey’s dad in his place was the most satisfying moment in the book. I only wish he would have done more to him. The man was the worst person ever and didn’t deserve a son like Trey. Sloan going full Daddy mode on him was sexy af.

My heart broke for Trey. He should have been treasured and cherished instead of being treated like trash. I’m glad that Sloan came into his life and showed him what it was like to be loved.

I'll start by saying that I wanted to love this book because the blurb absolutely grabbed my attention as something I'd love. My biggest issue (which I'll get out of the way first before all the good bits) is that it was pitched as the start of a new series so I assumed that meant it was a standalone. The author is new to me and I very quickly realised that to understand a lot of the characters and world building I needed to know more about other 'familiar' faces. The parts with Trey and the team were ok but everything to do with Slone was told through the lens of needing to know the wider history - remembering all the other friends, couples and dynamics was like a whistle-stop tour that I had no hope of remembering. I got confused about who was who and it just felt like I'd missed so much beforehand.

If you're familiar with those other series and characters then I can only imagine that this was a brilliant read and I can definitely see how it would be a joy to be returning to this world and catching more glimpses of those you've read about before. I struggled to get to grips with the book until about 60% when the real relationship between Trey and Slone developed. They were so good for each other, I loved their chemistry and the dynamic between them and it was good to see how Trey's self-belief blossomed from Slone's care and support. I liked that Slone wasn't afraid to stand up for Trey (I wish there was a bit more of a visible consequence for his dad) but I enjoyed the HEA that they got and thought that was well thought out.

I always look for new authors that write about a lifestyle I know a lot about. Sara Hurst did a pretty good job, I must say. I love the story of Trey, who is an NHL hockey player that is unsigned, and he doesn't think a lot about himself. I can understand that totally. Like some, he drinks to try to get through thinking his family thinks not-so-good thoughts about him. He has learned while growing up in Malacheck what others want him to do and be. He is supposed to do what others tell him to do, not what he wants to do. To have a family that wins is the only acceptable outcome in their eyes. Then there is Slone, who is the opposite, where he is laid back and patient. He sees how Trey needs someone to give him support and be there for him, but he didn't come to Nashville to find anyone. His life changes the day he meets up with Trey, who is full of hurt. Having the feelings he has for Trey makes him want to be there for Trey and support him like he is in need of someone giving him the time of day and that he doesn't expect him to be perfect. I felt the BDSM and kink hit great in this story. The by-play between the Dom and Brat was well done. I haven't read Sara Hurst before, but I can tell you I will be reading more by her in the future.

This is the first book in the Manchester U Maulers series. This is the story of Trey and Slone. Trey is a gifted hockey player who is slowly being crushed under family pressure and obligations. Both his father and grandfather had hockey careers. His mom was a recognized figure skater. No surprise that genetics were in his favor. But Trey actually loves hockey. He doesn't like all the control and pressure that his family uses to control him. And it wouldn't be as bad if they were helicopter parents who genuinely wanted their son to succeed. No there are back deals and shady reasoning aplenty in this story. In Trey's family, winning is the only thing. If Trey continues on the path that he is on, he will not be signing with an NHL team this season. Slone is an ex-marine, Daddy Dom and kink club owner. This is their story. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. The book is written well and is easy to read. There is instant chemistry between Trey and Slone. Every time they meet, it just grows stronger. Slone becomes Trey's protector and lover. He freely give Trey his love, support and confidence. He has absolutely no problem stepping up to protect Trey. As a result, Slone becomes everything to Trey. Together they make a strong team. I enjoyed this book. While hockey is in the forefront of the story, there is also a lot of steam to enjoy. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Read this fantastic book and bring a towel… for sweat, drool and everything else…

This is the first book in the Manchester U Maulers Series - we meet Trey, a young hockey player - a boy - who is in desperate need of a daddy who cares for him, gives him rules and is there for him completely and focused 100 percent of the time…

There is a lot of exploration for you to discover with those two - some extraordinary caring and some special

Oh myyy… almost forgot to tell you about Slone! He is a possessive and d!rty little cupcake! He is an ex-Marine - a daddy - and although he technically could end someone with his bare hands he is sweet, attentive and oh he can deliver all the good stuff - it’s fitting that he owns a K ink club…

This book pushed me out of my comfort zone and I really enjoyed it. Trey is someone that has it all together on the surface - good looks, famous family, successful college career, and an NHL contract waiting for him. But in reality he is an absolute mess, trying to live up to unreal expectations and constantly acting out in self-destructive ways. Enter Slone, the daddy dom looking for a real connection. And he sees that possibility in Trey. Trey's wild behavior hides a fragility that Slone protects. He gives Trey a safe place to let go and Trey gives him an emotional center. I liked the way their relationship grows and deepens, despite their meddling friends (who are all great characters). There is a lot of affection in the story, but mainly it's super super spicy. BDSM stories are not usually my go to, but Sara Hurst is someone I trust to bring me into this world. I love that there is no shame in any of the depictions of those that participate and the consent is so hot. I will also caution that Trey is on the receiving end of emotional, and eventually physical, abuse from his father so please heed the content warnings. Overall I really liked this one.

Spicy, emotional, medium angst.

This is definitely a different kind of MM hockey romance. It's kink positive with a D/s Daddy + brat dynamic. The author does an excellent job developing these complex characters so much so that it's almost halfway through the book where our MCs finally get together. By then, the slow burn and build-up really are worth all the wait because once the heat starts, wowza its hot as hell.

I really enjoyed getting to know Trey and Sloan independently before they meet. I thought their relationship developed in a believable way. Their banter and dynamic are so fun and hot, and the hurt/comfort hits that emotional spot.

There's also a lot of side characters mentioned and developed in this book that are new and also from previous books by this author, so I'm eager to see where the series takes us.

I thought this book had all the necessary things to be a great read, but it was definitely confusing at times. Inconsistencies, rushed backstories of people that really weren’t important to the storyline at all, some instances of referencing the wrong character when in fact they mixed up the 2 main characters, etc.
Overall, I did see this as having a good storyline, I just think there needed to be a few more passes at some of the writing to make sure storylines were ironed out and other things weren’t just thrown in there for fluff when it wasn’t needed.
I loved the dynamic of Slone and Trey and the Daddy Dom/Sub Boy play they got into. Definitely had a lot of good spicy scenes in the book. I’m looking forward to where this series goes though. It wasn’t a terrible read where I wouldn’t read any of the others in the series, so bring on book 2!.

Though not a huge sports fan i found this to be a fun combination of hockey, found family, and a protective romance. Trey really got under my skin, in the best way. Beneath all the bravado and the Malachek expectations, he’s clearly struggling with who he is versus who everyone expects him to be, and I loved watching Slone see through all of that.

Slone’s patience and steady care were probably my favourite part of their relationship. He doesn’t try to fix Trey so much as give him a safe place to finally be himself, and their chemistry made their connection even better.

The kink elements added another interesting layer, and Slone’s protective Daddy energy definitely worked for me. Overall, a steamy, emotional hockey romance with plenty of heart, great chemistry, and a hero who finally gets someone looking at him, rather than the Malachek name.

There's a really hot dynamic between the two main characters in Dangle. It begins with Trey, a hockey player bogged down by the legacy of his father and grandfather. But he is bogged down not just with self-imposed expectations, but very abusive and relentless pressure from both men. Slone, a hot ex-military Dom who is stuck in his life, is being pushed by his close friends to do something about it. At a hockey game, not Slone's natural habitat, Trey captures his attention. But he sees not just Trey's performance, but also his interior struggle.

The beginning seemed a little slow, if only because there were a lot of characters to establish (or re-establish from other books). I was most interested in the Dom/little relationship and how that helped both men, but that didn't seem to be a very long part of the book.

Honestly I wasn't overly enthusiastic to read this. I just couldn't get into the right head space for it. But once I picked it up I was happy I did. Sloan was the perfect balance to Trey. I've never seen free use written about in a way that didn't feel exploitive, these are two dudes that don't share and it is 100% used as a dimension of their dynamic.

It was pretty obvious that these characters are in a shared universe with characters from other novels. At times it didn't feel like a stand alone and to be perfectly fair, I'm not sure I would go out of my way to read about characters that already have their own books. Would I continue with this series...absolutely.

This was a heartfelt and engaging hockey romance that beautifully explores the man behind a famous name. Trey’s struggle with family expectations, pressure, and his tendency to hide behind charm which makes him an incredibly compelling character, while Slone’s patience and genuine affection provide exactly the balance he needs. I loved watching their supposedly simple arrangement become something deeper as Slone slowly breaks through Trey’s carefully constructed defences. Their chemistry is wonderful, but it’s the emotional connection and the way Slone truly sees Trey that makes the story shine. Sweet, funny, romantic, and emotional, this was a great read, and I can't wait for more in this series

​It is tough to shoulder expectations that feel like they are weighing you down. And it's hard to complain when you seem to have it all. Trey is a third generation hockey player. The latest in a family that is considered hockey royalty who on the surface seems to have it made. Underneath he is a pot waiting to boil over. And he is a few behaviors away from blowing it and embarrassing the family. Enter Sloane who interestingly sees Trey and the pressure that is putting him at risk. He is willing to help and not because of who Trey happens to be. A hockey romance with spice, comfort, the importance of being seen for oneself and a bit of kink. Good.

Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion:
2.5-3⭐️I think this is the first book I have read from this author. What stood out to me was the connection between Trey and Sloan, it’s quick, intense, and authentic. I liked them together and really loved the kind of peace they find in their relationship. What didn’t quite work for me was the dialogue, which was distracting because it didn’t read like real people speaking. Also, there are just so very many side characters, all of whom seem to have an opinion. They just bogged down the plot in needless backstory as I just didn’t care about them or their opinions.

I really enjoyed this book! I like the dynamic between Slone and Trey. I really enjoyed their specific kinks. There were lots of of characters mentioned that have me super curious about their stories so it looks like I'll be doing some more reading! 😂

I do think that the situation with Trey's dad would not have been resolved quite that quickly or easily. And I did think the book would be slightly more BDSM heavy, but I thoroughly enjoyed what we did see. I love daddy doms.

I love all of the found family aspects of the book. Really enjoyable read.

I figured I was going to love this one from the blurb. I immediately understood all the pressure Trey was under and how that pressure had always been there from his family, especially his father. Never allowed to want anything just for himself, always expected to take on others dreams and expectations until he didn't even know who he was anymore. Then to see Slone read all of that so quickly and decide he was going to hang in there and help Trey find himself without being another source of pressure, just a steady supportive presence who wouldn't let Trey automatically fall back on what others demanded. I'm really looking forward to more in this series.

What a great book to start a new series for me I love the way this author the rights in the story they tell. The story of train Sloan broke my heart. Both have issues and this book is about accepting yourself or before you can finally in love with someone else. Both men have work to do and accept and we slowly see that. Trey comes from NHL royalty and does follow family expectations is one day away from rebelling. Sloan appears to have it all together, but underneath has his own issues. A great book with some emotional depth and great characters, but I can’t wait to see more about and from.

This is my first read from this author and I’m glad it was I was hooked from the first few chapters figuring out who Trey and Sloan were.

This story is fast paced and swoony I loved their connection and how the trust slowly built. I do kinda wish we got more of some scenes but it was still a wonderful story!

Super disliked Treys father and I’m glad the grandfather didn’t grace the page of the book.

There are a number of other characters in this book that I’m intrigued by and I cannot wait to dive into the backlist and read all of their stories!

Slone is a former marine and part owner of a kink club, and struggling to find meaning in his life. Once the two figured out how to start and develop a relationship together, they were obviously both in great need of each other's support. The kink elements fit both well. While this is meant as a standalone/new series starter, it felt a bit like I was missing some of the back story of some of the minor characters, which would have added to this book.

Slone has finally found his person in Trey, a much younger brat that happens to be a hockey player from a legacy family. While Trey now knows how it feels to have someone that supports him and is reliable in his life. The story was really cute and of course, it had plenty of hot scenes between the two. Some of the parts that were heavy on the hockey jargon, I had skimmed over. Ultimately, they are a really sweet couple and the story was pretty good.

love the characters. trey is just wanting to get away from his ''legacy'' and have something that is just his and not his parents. slone is in a rut without knowing whats wrong until he sees trey. trey is borderline self destructive, partly his dads fault, partly his own fault. slone sees him for him and with both of them wanting the same thing, but slone decides that talking first is more important than jumping in, which i absolutely agree with. wonderful hea. keep up the great work and cant wait for more.

This was my first book from Sara Hurst and I'm thinking this is probably going to be my only. It leans heavily on kink, which isn't hidden! But I didn't vibe with it quite like I thought, but hey, there's only one way to find out. If you really enjoy the dom/sub dynamic in your books, I think Dangle, and probably the rest of Hurst's books, will definitely be up your alley.
