Great story. Very readable. The characters were very real to me. This book makes you glad for things changing over the years. For the better. Set in Louisiana. In the late 1800's. Tragedy. Heart break. Loss. Pain. Slavery. Suffering. Burning roses has it all and really describes the length a mother will go to protect her babies, no matter how horrible they are.

If you can suffer through the beginning, the end is alright. I enjoyed reading about Louisiana, but the book needed some serious editing.

The author of this book, Barbara Bernard, is my Great-Aunt. She is truly a wonderful woman. This book gives alot of my familys' history and there will be a second part issued in time to come.
