It is unwise for death to form an obsession with the living. I know this, and yet, there is something about Lenore that steals my sanity and sews the seeds of madness into my shadowy skull. She’s beautiful, perfect, and filled with secrets. My little raven. Who could have known that one bite from a poison apple would rob me of my mortal princess? The magic surrounding the tainted fruit plunges Lenore into a sleep like death, sealing her soul in the land in-between, denying her entry to my kingdom of the dead. No human prince will be able to save her from the land of unending darkness. If my raven is to find a way back to life, or the sweet finality of a true death, she’ll need otherworldly help. Only monsters survive in the in-between. Lucky for my little raven, I am the worst kind of monster. I will ferry her soul to its rightful place in the underworld, and anyone who tries to stop me will find out what happens when you provoke the Prince of Death. I will find my lost Lenore and make her mine forevermore.

Violet Taylor is a crystal and candle shop owner by day and a paranormal romance novelist by night. She spends her free time fantasizing about living in an isolated mountain cabin with her wonderful husband and herd of fur babies. She prefers her books with magic, mates, and plenty of muscles.
If you love Howl’s Moving Castle, Snow White, Magic, Resurrection, Ravens, curses, Monster romance, and twisted happily ever afters… this book will be your next obsession.
And its dark… bordering on horror fantasy…
It’s also a smidge taboo… so check those trigger warnings… and then follow me into a dark twisted world where the nightmares that keep us up at night are very much… alive.
“It is unwise for death to form an obsession with the living.” But in our case… it’s an absolute delight to witness.
One bite from a poison apple plunges Lenore into a sleep like death, sealing her soul in the in-between and denying her entry to the kingdom of the dead. And only monsters survive in the in-between. Lucky for Lenore… Death is the worst kind of monster… and he’s got his eyes set solely on her.
“And so the seed of madness takes root in the garden of shadows that consumes my mind, dropping me into a free fall from which there is no return. She will be mine. I welcome my mind’s dark decent with a grin.”
This story blew me away. From page one I was absolutely terrified. I literally had to put the book down and tell myself I could resume reading tomorrow when it was daylight.
This story carries some incredibly heavy lessons, so don’t expect to come out of it unscathed. I found myself weeping… sometimes for the characters, and sometimes for myself. Dark fantasy romance like this can be deeply cathartic, offering a powerful way to unpack our own trauma and pain.
“Why is it that men of great power always use it to break beautiful things?”
This line haunted me long after…
There’s sadness and loss as well that is so unbearable I recommend not only some tissues but a whole roll of paper towels, you will be absolutely sobbing.
“Seeing you this sad is the worst thing I’ve ever had to witness. Worse than torture, worse than endless darkness. The brokenness in you is spreading into parts of me that only exist because of you, shattering them in solidarity.”
The loneliness is this story is vast. Deep enough to drown in.
“Dabbing at my cheeks, I pull myself together. Tears are best shed in the presence of the one who owns your heart and soul, the one to whom it was given willingly. And I am owned by no one.”
Lenore is a heroine I adore. She’s flawed and real. She picks at the skin beside her nails until they bleed, a small, powerful detail that made her leap off the page for me.
And the spice? I was unprepared. This book didn’t just turn up the heat… it ignited it. It was sinfully delicious
Expect stalker moments, dangerous twists, a sprawling dark kingdom of death, and a river of souls. Plus, some fun cameos from a previous book… No need to read it first, but if you want that extra squeal worthy moment, I highly recommend starting with The Wrath of Roses. If you love Beauty and the Beast with a dash of why choose… you’re going to eat this up.
The magic is refreshingly unique and enchanting. Each reveal felt like peeling back a layer of a beautifully mysterious world.
I can’t recommend this story enough. You’ll blush, you’ll sweat, you’ll scream… and you’ll love every second of it.
First things first, THAT is proper usage of shadows. Harrow earned the title of Shadow Daddy rightfully. SECONDLY, to all those saying this is LIKE Howls moving castle, I want you to look my beautiful melodramatic can do no wrong Howl Pendragon Jenkins in the eye and APOLOGIZE. I get that this was supposed to be a darker version of it but..no ma’am. I’m calling my silly little blonde wizard and asking to be picked up immediately.
And the amount of times I was screaming TIME AND PLACE was headache inducing. Fiancé just poisoned, doing it in the maze. Survived a brutal battle with corrupted bone creatures, doing it on the stone wall. Oh but Lena he’s possessive and he’s jealous over Cassius, right..there is a better TIME AND PLACE to prove that.
Not gonna lie, I skipped through the last battle. I got very bored and was kind of sick of them constantly being separated to fight their own battles. Even though she wasn’t fighting much and was actually dead weight everywhere she went(literally teehee).
Overall, if you came for the dark spooky “you are mine no one touches what’s mine” vibes, then this is the book for you. It’s a good Halloween vibe read tbh, but that’s not what I came for hence the low review.
Omg I stayed up way too late reading this! I’m falling asleep at my desk but it was totally worth it!!! I have been looking forward to this book since Violet first announced it so I freaked out when I got the chance to ARC read! Harrow is my new favorite book boyfrnd obsession. (Sorry Renard and Gabriel. I still love you both)The book was longgg and I still want more of my shadow daddy. I hope we see him again in some of the new fairytales! I think she said more of the characters are going to crossover. Fingers crossed! The perfect read for anyone looking for a dark sexy story where you favorite fairytale gets a monstrous twist! Can’t wait for the next one!
Okay so I’m OBSESSED! That’s putting it lightly I think lol. When I tell you I sat here and couldn’t put it down (and also reread some parts because wow I’m in love) I mean it. I am gobsmacked. Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood by Violet Taylor takes the story of Snow White and combines it with Howl’s Moving Castle and Hades and Persephone’s epic love story. Quite literally everything I love balled up into one miraculous package. You’re telling me I get to experience spicy Howl?! SIGN ME UP! ~end of fangirling rant~
Okay, so there’s a Princess named Lenore with a secret power and an unfortunate betrothal to someone as old as her father. However, she finds comfort in darkness and solitude until one night Death himself shows up with piercing eyes and a beautiful face. Entranced by her beauty and her odd behavior for what is expected of a princess, he finally gives her his name— Harrow. The biggest hitch in this affair is that their love is forbidden, a mortal soul and the harbinger of death cannot reside together for long without chaos befalling the Underworld.
The writing, the plot, and the character development is so wildly epic. Seeing Lenore and Harrow develop so much throughout the story made me giddy. I enjoyed seeing Lenore take her power back and Harrow’s heart soften for his little raven 🥰 I’m floored— this was so good. I will probably be doing a reread in the very near future!
Thank you so much Violet for the eARC and the honor to get to read this early! All thoughts and opinions are honest and my own. If you decide to read this because of this review: DM me your thoughts after you’re done because I need more people to talk to about this!
Okay, so Violet Taylor really said: what if Snow White, but make it filthy, twisty, and give her a shadow daddy? And honestly… I ate it up. 🍎🔥
This book is not your childhood fairytale unless your bedtime stories came with plot twists, smut galore, and a morally gray man who lurks in the shadows and makes you question your life choices (in the best way).
The spice? Off the charts. The drama? Soap opera meets dark fantasy. The twists? I gasped, laughed, and maybe fanned myself a little too much.
If you like your retellings messy, sexy, and unhinged in the best possible way, this one is for you. Just don’t expect any dwarves singing “Hi Ho” … unless that’s a euphemism. 😉
This is the second arc I’ve read from Violet and she did not disappoint ! As someone who loves studio Ghibli and Howl’s Moving Castle I’d definitely recommend!!
This book had me in a chokehold last night. It is a Snow White reimagining masterfully infused with the eerie romance of Hades and Persephone, the ethereal magic of Howl’s Moving Castle, and the haunting lyricism of Poe.
Death himself falls for Lenore, an undead human girl locked in a death-like sleep by a poisoned apple and a witch’s curse. Harrow must enter the in-between realm of perpetual torture to save Lenore from her fears. Harrow is willing to risk his kingdom and the souls he has sworn to protect to awaken and save his "little raven". He barters with monsters and calls in immortals and old friends to help him break the curse and defeat the wicked witch.
The twists are wicked, the stakes are high, and nothing is as it seems.
Taylor's writing blends fairytale and fantasy with spice and shadows, and Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood casts a spell that lingers. A swoony, sinister, and stunning installment you won’t want to wake up from.
I’m leaving this review because I genuinely enjoyed the story. Taylor is a strong writer whose work drips with dark universal fantasy and the highest of heat love scenes. I can’t count how many times I gasped out loud and then smiled at what I was reading. For me, the book truly shined from the middle through the end, with one GLARING exception. I’ll get into that in a bit.
First, the things that were exceptional:
Harrow is an endlessly hot hero for this type of dark romance novel. Hello? The Prince of the Underworld? A white haired hottie who’s monster form is a hulking raven demon who wields shadows at will? Yes, please! His obsession with Lenore is just chefs kiss. When Harrow raised a skeleton, wrapped it in shadows and did *that* to it, wishing it was Lenore, I FELL OUT. Haha! I was most certainly kicking my feet and laughing at the sheer nerve of it all. Simply fabulous!
Lenore being a necromancer was spot on for the darker version of Snow White. Her bone collection made total sense when paired with her fated mate’s background. The way her personality zinged off Harrow’s truly worked. They are both one of a kind in the human realm and the world below, making them a perfect balance for one another.
The dark themes never waver into the timid, Taylor makes sure of that. The bone collection, the in-between world, the hellish place Harrow dwells in, all tie together well. The intimate scenes always push the envelope and don’t hold anything back, which is refreshing and wildly creative. Lenore’s soft hearted nature was revealed through the dozens of cute forest animals she’s saved, so her talent does double duty for her as a character. All of this, I loved!
The writing is lyrical and elevated to match the fairy tale vibe. The author likened the style to Edgar Allen Poe and I can agree that much of the story does have this flavor.
Now, for the things I wasn’t a huge fan of:
*SPOILERS AHEAD* . . . .
Lenore: In the beginning, Lenore is described as a princes who just wants freedom, not to be tied down in an unwanted marriage. Okay, a bit typical, but not a huge issue. At times her dialogue and interiority felt a bit out of place for the elevated nature of the narrative. The words “Bye bitches” in the tea scene (which could have been omitted entirely) were not befitting a princess at all, maybe a young girl of todays modern world, not necessarily the world this author so painstakingly and beautifully created. Lenore was also prone to blurt out random “weird” things at first, which left the people around her aghast, sort of boarding on the “I’m not like other girls, I’m quirky” thing. She said that some of the tea room company, Bess and Penelope, were boring and annoying, while Lenore actually came off as the slightly irritating one in this scene.
Her reaction to Prince Cassius seemed anchored in the physical, which, okay, he’s a hot tanned hunk, so I get that. But Lenore would be a little more grounded if she kept up her walls and sussed him out a bit longer. His gradually winning her over (more than he did in this story) would make finding out that he’s evil a much more meaningful blow.
Things like these made it difficult to connect with Lenore early on.
Intimate scenes: While done very well and delightfully out-of-the-box, the couple seemed to get down to business at the most strange times. Harrow's realm is likely on fire, both of their lives at stake while they're in the in-between, and they choose to "do it" right then and there? In the cabin, in the air, and on the wall in the bone garden, just off the top of my head. Things like this happened quite a few times, and it's not a huge deal, because I would say this book has more hard erotic themes than most regular romances. Though, it was somewhat puzzling at times.
Tone:
Given that this is a fairytale retelling with a Scottish maid, based on German folklore (Brother Grimm), taking place in a (presumably) 16th century style castle, a few of the lines read as out of place and too modern, while the narrative style is more lush and lyrical. I mentioned this before, but it just booted me out of the story so much, that it bares mentioning again. The juxtaposition was jarring.
Pacing:
While reading the first 100 pages, I realized I had no idea what to expect from the plot. Perhaps I should have made the connection (from the opening chapter in the haunted woods) that someone was trying to kill Lenore and her family, but still, I found myself wondering what the main plot was, aside form the romance with Harrow.
If 5% - 10% of the book—interiority and some of the material in the first 100 pages was omitted, this book would be stronger for it. A little more restraint would go a long way. Since I’ve read the author before, I trusted that we would get into the swing of thing eventually—otherwise, I might have soft DNF’d before the midway point, mostly due to the slight immaturity of the heroine and my lack of connection with her.
***After noting these things, I want to be clear***
I actually found MUCH of this story to be sizzling, scintillating, well written, and creative beyond anything my brain could come up with. So I would be remiss to ignore all of the hard work this author did in writing this story. It takes a lot of hard work and major skill to pull something like this off. This MUST be noted!!!!
Now… As to why I almost rage quit this book 466 pages in…
I swear to GOD, I thought this book was missing the final chapter.
The ending is completely devoid of an emotional catharsis (detailed on page) when Lenore finally descends into Harrow’s realm and lovers are bonded for all eternity.
He leaves her on an island and then she is just… suddenly on page in the epilogue… I literally flipped back to the last chapter and separated the pages one by one, because I thought that I must have skipped the last chapter, the one that matters most right after the big climax!! I read the beginning of the epilogue and felt like Regina George when she discovered Calteen bars actually made her gain weight…
Like—WHAT?????
466 pages and their reunion in the underworld is just glossed over like that??? We just jump straight into a calm epilogue, and that beautiful moment was not given to us???
Aside from that… who was Angel? Am I missing something? Why would a character who has never been mentioned or introduced swing in to save the day while Lenore was cowering in the garden? Bringing in a random vampire to kill the main villain, instead of having Lenore do it was a majorly confusing choice.
Since Harrow gave Lenore his green glowing necklace, perhaps it might have given her some magical power to defeat Cassius? Perhaps her animal friends and Mytha could have helped her in this task so we, the readers, felt like Lenore had grown and changed from being surrounded by dark magic for this entire story?
Just a thought—not trying to be overly critical. As I said, I enjoyed most of this story very much, but I was disappointed to see Lenore laying on the ground while Angel dispatched Cassius in the climax.
To that end, I’m wondering where the green necklace went? Maybe I missed what happened to it, but Lenore wearing it while she fell in the well could have been the perfect way for her to meet her final end, no extra stab necessary. If she dies with Harrow’s amulet of the Underworld on, she would not be able to resurrect herself. That would have made sense in my mind.
I was also surprised that, after much was made about how precious Harrow’s wings were to him, he didn’t have to sacrifice them, AND give the in-between creature a human slave. He could have re-grown all four of them slowly, (through the power of love, or something, lol) with Lenore by his side, but, oh well. Maybe I’m being too picky at this point.
Epilogue: Not my cup of tea. And we’ll leave it at that.
Final thoughts:
Listen, I really do enjoy this author. I will probably read the Darkly Depraved Monsters book when October hits (only a few days away now). I will continue to support her and her work. It’s difficult when you enjoy something, and when the moment of release is dangled in front to you, only to be stifled by an ending that—in my opinion—isn’t present enough to feel like full catharsis.
Why didn't you rate the book lower if you have that many grievances with it, you ask?
Because I recognize quality work when I see it. The choices made, especially at the ending were not for me, but I loved the first book in the series, THE WRATH OF ROSES. So I know this author is more than capable of detailing a lovely, dark, *complete* ending that leaves the reader giddy for more. If you like dark fairytale retellings, CRUELEST KISS AND FAIREST BLOOD, might still be right up your alley!
This isn’t the fairytale you grew up with, it’s wicked, darker, and way more seductive. A reimagining that had me envisioning shadows not only lurking in the dark but slinking into dripping depths. 🔥
Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood is the second book in the Tales So Wicked Interconnected series. The first book, The Wrath of Roses, introduces characters who make appearances here, and one even plays a larger role than the rest. While I highly recommend reading the first book (it’s sooooo good and seeing familiar faces pop up will make you squeal) I don’t think it's strictly necessary, this book stands beautifully on its own.
Violet Taylor has done an incredible job taking elements from beloved fairytales and twisting them into something fresh, dark, and unpredictable. Not once did the story feel slow, tired, or “been there, read that.”
Before I continue, I implore you to take a peak at some of the art commissioned for this book…it’s gorgeous, and will entice you to read it even if this review doesn’t. 💖
Also, check the trigger warnings: this is a dark romantasy that touches on taboo relationships (not necessarily between the MMCs).
What you can expect: • Moster romance 😈 • Virgin FMC 😏 • Sexy use of shadows 🖤 • Animal friends 🦊 • He falls first 💘 • Touch her and die 🔥
In this wicked tale, we meet Lenore, a young princess with a peculiar secret hidden beneath her collar and a…secret ability hidden up her sleeve. Harrow, the Prince of Death, stumbles upon her and is immediately drawn in. Despite forces and circumstances pulling them apart they forge a connection until a poisonous apple tears her away to a realm where her only chance of rescue is from the Prince of Death himself.
Beyond the plot (uniquely twisted), the characters (complex, flawed, and fully realized), the spice (STEAMY and well placed), and the setting (immersive and atmospheric), what kept me hooked was the dialogue. Nothing turns me off faster than dialogue that feels unnatural or purely for plot’s sake. This doesn’t happen here at all. The banter between the two MMC’s is witty and everything that I want in my books. It drives the plot but it also helped me understand the characters, connect with them, and see the natural progression of their relationship. Every exchange feels real, purposeful, and layered, keeping me fully immersed in the story. I can't wait for book 3 and to hopefully catch glimpses of Harrow.
If you love dark, smutty fairytale reimaginings, pre-order this immediately!
Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood By : Violet Taylor
Omg… this retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has it all! If you want spice it’s got it. If you want a monster from a mystical land it’s got it. If you are looking for a classic fairy tale it’s got it. Once you read this book you will never look at the seven dwarfs the same. Nothing seems as it appears. But there are nice surprises around every corner. And some not so nice. Lenore ( Snow White) and Harrow have a unique dynamic, he’s over the top and Lenore not so much. One quote that really stood out that shows their quirky relationship is “ Then you just waltz back in here with a pile of bloody Penises!” “I was trying to be romantic.” Buy the book you will not regret it. Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood will draw you in from the beginning it’s a wild ride just hang on enjoy the ride.
Violet Taylor doesn’t just flirt with darkness—she drags you down into it, wraps it around your throat, and makes you like the choke. Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood is not a gentle fairy tale. It's poison-laced lullaby whispered by the Prince of Death himself, filled with hunger, obsession, and a gothic sensuality that leaves you unsettled and craving more.
The story of Lenore isn’t about a girl waiting to be saved—it’s about a soul trapped between life and death, hunted and desired by the very monster who should be her undoing. The Prince of Death doesn’t play the hero, he doesn’t redeem himself, and he certainly doesn’t let go. He is obsession given flesh, and his devotion is as terrifying as it is intoxicating.
Taylor twists the familiar—apples, princesses, princes—into something jagged and haunting. The romance here is not sweet; it is brutal, beautiful, and stitched together with blood, shadow, and inevitability. If you’re looking for a safe, candlelit fantasy with tidy morals, walk away. But if you’re ready for a dark descent where love is possession, death is seduction, and fairy tales rot into something far more decadent, then step closer.
Because once the Prince of Death has you in his grip, there is no happily ever after—only ever after.
Ok I took my Sweet time reading this book. The author has such an outstanding way to describe details as well as a very creative imagination. So far I have had the absolute pleasure of reading all of her monster books.
This retelling has been my favorite so far and that says a lot. Because I won’t stop recommending her “wrath of roses” because it just made my jaw drop. However with this story…..my jaw could not be picked back up.
There were plot lines I didn’t expect. As well as some scenes that really there’s no way anyone else could come up with the descriptions she uses. I also quite enjoyed that she did start to reconnect some beloved characters. Made me happy!
Thank you so much for letting me read this early 🥹🖤
Harrow. Harrow. Harrow. Harrow. Harrow and Lenore. But Harrow 🥵 Harrow is a different breed of UNHINGED and I loved it!
This was SUCH a dark reimagining of Snow White, and let me tell you: I WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY. It was SUCH a good read! It has the right amount of world-building, of romance, of gore, of horror, of fantasy, of spice. I was sucked in from the first page. I can't wait to buy a physical copy when I meet Violet at @villainsandvixens if she has any extra copies because of course, I forgot to pre-order 🫣🤣
Make sure to read book 1 because my favorite Beast makes an appearance 😍
🖤 Shadow Daddy 🖤 Monster Romance 🖤 Bondage 🖤 Primal 🖤 Snow White Reimagining 🖤 Touch Her and ☠️ 🖤 Dark Romantasy
loved this book. kept me hooked and wanting to call into work. this was a snow white retelling with spice and darkness. and I am here for it. there are some crossover of characters from book one. and possibly some hints into the next book/books. lots going on but laid out well and well detailed that I felt like I was watching a movie not just reading a book.
there were some twists i did not expect. which i always love. I enjoy being surprised.
and I would not be mad if my man's 🍆 did things that harrow's 🍆 did. I won't say more you will have to read to see what I'm talking about 😅
highly recommend buying this book on release day. and of course reading book 1 if you haven't yet. and as always check those triggers.
thanks Violet Taylor for the ARC. can't wait for the rest!

The Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood is a dark, enchanting follow-up that feels like stepping into a fairytale turned on its head. It carries Snow White undertones, sprinkles of Howl’s Moving Castle whimsy, and a touch of Hades & Persephone forbidden romance vibes.
What stood out most to me were the atmospheric world-building and the push-and-pull between magic, love, and danger. It’s gothic, it’s romantic, eerie and it definitely plays with that line between beauty and darkness.
Fans of morally gray characters, forbidden love, and fairytales with a bite will definitely want to keep an eye on this release.
Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood by Violet Taylor was whimsical, steamy, macabre, and an absolutely beautiful dark twist on Snow White.
I could not put this book down! It gave me everything I wanted in a dark fairytale retelling! The way Violet writes pulls you into this etheral world where a princess teters between life and death. She has you swooning, your heart racing, and terrifies you right along with the characters.
Cruelest Kiss and Faireat Blood gives dark romanstasy lovers EVERYTHING they want. A morally grey, sometimes morally black MMC who is absolutely beautiful in every way, a strong and intriguing FMC, powerful magic, and some serious spice...ahem monster spice.
I did not expect to become so emotionally invested in Harrow and Lenore, but those two absolutely stole my heart.
I LOVED this retelling! Make sure you check your warnings and triggers because this is a DARK retelling, with some scenes that even caught me off guard.
Howls moving castle meets snow white meets edgar allen poe??? Baby this was IT. everybody need a shadow daddy and this one just so happens to have wings LOVE LOVE LOVE this so much, i love fairytale retelling and this one was twisty, dark, action packed and just perfection from start to finish.

ARC review. Omg what an incredibly well written Snow White reimagining! When you read this you are completely transformed into Lenore and Harrows world. This was so perfectly written I felt like I was there with them. Chefs kiss on the spice!
I want to start with the fact I absolutely adored the first book of this series and actually rated it five stars. However, I had a difficult time with this book. Some parts of the book felt extremely methodical and well planned (the first 25%, the chapters regarding the in between) , while others were rushed and didn’t make sense (the battle scene with Catreena, Lenore leaving the in between but Harrow staying?). I persevered and I will say I thoroughly enjoyed the unconventional HEA and the overall ending to the story. Maybe in a few months when I am more removed from book 1 I may do a reread in hopes I have more a connection to this story. I just feel that by reading back to back book 1 was so supremely above this story that there is no comparison.

Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Violet Taylor is back at it with another delightfully delicious dark retelling of some fairytales. I have always enjoyed the Snow White story however this retelling has some interesting dark elements and twists all throughout it. I enjoyed the world building that Violet did and has me hoping that we will be getting many more retellings in the future. I was delightfully surprised when one of my favorite couples made an appearance linking these stories together. If you haven’t read Wrath of Roses please do before reading this! I promise you it’s absolutely worth it. Now back to Lenore and Harrow, Lenore isn’t quite sure how she’s bestowed the gift of bringing things back from the dead. However that’s one of the many things that draws the Prince of the Underworld her way. Lenore loves nothing more than to just be with her animals in the garden, she’s not a big fan of being a princess. Lenore feels all around out of place in the royal world, not many people understand her or her humor. However her beauty and loving spirit is another thing that draws the eyes of Harrow Prince of the Underworld. Harrow has never met anyone like Lenore and doesn’t even understand the pull he has towards her. He will do anything he can to make her happy and be who she needs even if he doesn’t know what that is. Lenore waits for any moment she can have with Harrow although she wonders if she’s going crazy sometimes since he’s not visible to most people. Lenore’s world completely flips upside down once she finds out she’s been promised to marry another king. However that’s just the beginning of the wild twists and turns this story takes. Harrow will absolutely burn his world and Lenore’s world to the ground just to keep her safe. He actually might lose everything if he’s not careful and he’s lost a lot before he met Lenore and it still brings him pain and sorrow. The banter between Lenore and Harrow is amazing however when Renard makes his appearance and the banter between him and Harrow comes I was laughing out loud! Violet has introduced a few new interesting characters in this story that I hope we see again in other stories. This story has all the emotions as well as spice, gore, witty banter, delightful pieces from fairytales and so much more. It was like the wildest roller coaster you can imagine full of inversions, twists, hills and flips, I truly can’t wait for her next book!
This book had me in a chokehold, I sacrificed sleep to finish it like any good book goblin does!
Book 2 in Tales So Wicked
“Then you just waltz back in here with a pile of bloody Penises!" "I was trying to be romantic." <<< This was such a sweet and twisted romantic moment in the story.
Violet Taylor once again weaves a beautiful story combining classic elements from Snow White, adding touches of the opposite attract of Hades and Persephone, and the whimsical tone of Howls Moving Castle, needless to say I’m obsessed!!
Harrow, omg Harrow! You may have just became my favorite “Villain” Harrow is tormented and lonely, he is on another level of unstable in the sexiest of way! Learned from his past mistakes, he has the scars as his constant companion… Death himself falls hard and fast for Lenore…the walking death princess… Lenore (His Little Raven, Queen of Bones) touched with her own magic, that very magic saved her life but the scars left behind has changed her. Now a new enemy has come and has their sights set on her and her kingdom. One bite from a poisonous apple leaves her in a sleeping death curse…
This story held so many twists and turns, it was fantastic! The spice was hot 🥵 I will never say no to monster primal smut! The labyrinth scene, that one is BURNED into my mind! Nothing is as it seems in this book. We did get a crossover between Renard, Gabriel, and Ma Petite Fleur, I love their story!!!
No spoilers but wait until you see Lenore’s powers at the end!!! 🙌🏼 Let’s just say, the King of the Underworld only kneels for her…
Shadow Daddy Who hurt you Touch her and D1e Primal Monster Romance Dark Romance Retelling
This story does have some triggers that might make some uncomfortable, I definitely suggest reading the warnings first.
First and foremost, thank you, Violet for letting me be a part of this journey. I absolutely loved reading The Wrath of Roses and now being able to read Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood was such an incredible continuation of the series. I’m beyond excited to see what you create next and feel so grateful to be along for the ride!
ARC Review:
✨Think Snow White x Howls Moving Castle x Edgar Allen Poe and the MMC is a white haired shadow daddy with wings✨
What a dark and delicious twist on Snow White! I loved that it wasn’t immediately obvious this Snow White reimagined—the slow build-up was so well done. Violet draws you into the world effortlessly; from the start, you’re immersed and ready to devour every page. The twist on the classic tale is what really sets it apart and makes it shine.
The FMC is witty, sharp, and completely unapologetic—her smart-ass attitude had me grinning constantly. Then comes the MMC, a walking furnace of sexual tension. He’s morally gray (sometimes just straight-up morally black) and has the ability to alter his body *wink wink, which adds a wild and intriguing layer to his character.
The banter between all the characters was chef’s kiss, and the plot twists kept me hooked. I even laughed out loud at some of the hilariously ill-timed steamy scenes—but hey, no complaints. I also loved seeing familiar faces from the first book and how some loose ends were tied up nicely.
And that final chapter? The spice was SPICING.
- Monster Romance - He falls first - Touch her & die - Dark reimagining - shadow daddy
This book is exactly what I needed! Filled with fairytale aspects, hidden worlds, magic, spicy hookups, and tons of death. You follow Lenore, who is a princess who has a hard time with death and its reaper. The prince of the Underworld, Harrow, is a smitten kitten when it comes to Lenore, immediately obsessed. This shadow daddy is conflicted between his duties and spending time with the lovely princess. He leaves mementos behind for her in his wake as he's always watching. Did I mention he has wings and a monstrous side? She, however, has a distraction to be dealt with, as her kingdom becomes taken over by a powerful evil. Things aren't what they seem, and a poison apple will be her undoing. Sending her on a trip for survival in the in-between. Harrow and Lenore fight to get her back to her kingdom and the land of the living, but their fight is only beginning. What will happen of her kingdom, will they survive, will their love be strong enough to last forever? With tons of nods to Snow White, The Raven by Poe, Howls Moving Castle, and other surprises, this Fairytale Reimagining is sure to please!
... What to Expect ... Dark fantasy, monster romance, lots of spice, betrayal, stalker vibes, touch her and die, obsession, who did this to you, chase me, masks, feather play, bondage, magic, death, murder, fight for survival, resurrection, the underworld, monsters, and much more!!
Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood is the second book in the Tales So Wicked series, a collection of interconnected standalones. While this book can easily be read on its own, doing so would spoil the ending of the first book. I received an advance review copy and my thoughts are my own. Thank you to the author for my eArc.
Tropes and themes include: ✨Monster romance ✨Snow White reimagining ✨Shadow play ✨Animal friend ✨“Good Boy” ✨He falls first ✨Touch her and die ✨She has a thing for bones
The Lovely: I loved how this took the story of Snow White and completely twisted it around. And the love interest in this version is SO much better. This may be set in a fantasy world but the MMC is all monster (wink). He falls first, well before she even knows who he is.
The Mundane: I struggled a bit with the multiple villains, although I did like the twists surrounding them. I think the multiple villains made this a bit longer / more drawn out.
Recommendation: Fairytale reimaginings are some of my favorite stories and I think this was my first one inspired by Snow White. Very fun and I grew to LOVE the MC’s relationship. If you like a spicy fairytale with an immortal monster, I think you’d like this book.
Let me try and explain my love for this book without spoilers. I can say its a mix of many things and you will more than likely recognize them all and love every nod to these tales. Another thing I'll say is there's a cameo here that was most unexpected but much appreciated. Now lets get into the MCs. Lenore is the woman who doesn't give up. Shes so strong but also has a bleeding heart that shows exactly why Harrow cant stay away. That and her mouth hahaha gurl is sassy and firey af and I love her for it. She knows what's expected of her as a princess and she sticks her middle finger up at it and doesn't put on the act of who she "should be". Shes so cool and funny and just odd as all get out. Harrow? Gah. Hes the kind if male you can trust to break you and he know exactly what that means. Hes obsessive and possessive and just all the things you want him to be with shadows and wings included. These two together created such a beautiful and sweet love story within an absolutely fear inducing, suspenseful, horrifying storyline! I dont want to spoil anymore details because this book is best experienced with minimal info BUT IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO DARK THINGS READ THE TWS. There are unsettling, to some, elements in here.
This book was nothing short of magical. This has to go into my personal shelves called "If she writes it, I'll read it" Ms. Taylor can write the hell out of great plot, haunting fairy tales, fighting scenes and SPICE.
In this story, Death (Harrow) falls in love with Lenore. She's an undead woman in a death-like sleep caused by a poisoned apple. Harrow must be willing to risk his kingdom in order to save Lenore from an in-between realm.
This was a wonderful tale inspired by Snow White, Howl's Moving Castle and writings of Edgar Allan Poe, and if you haven't read any of Violet Taylor's retellings....what are you waiting for?! Read Wrath of Roses (you'll understand some supporting characters in CKAFB if you do!), that one is in my opinion, THE BEST Beauty and the Beast retelling I've ever read.
I appreciate having read the ARC for this and once again, fell in love with the characters. I can't wait to read more of what Ms. Taylor has in store for us!
AS always, check trigger warnings. This is a dark read. I would put spice as 3.5-4 out of 5 chili peppers. Before I forget....I know a lot of you like "shadow daddies"....wait until you see what Lenore is capable of doing. That epilogue was epic. <3
Cruelest Kiss is a dark and spooky reimagining of Snow White and possibly my favorite installment in the Tales so Wicked series. I absolutely loved Lenore. Her character isn’t perfect, and we get to watch her continue to make mistakes and learn from them, or perhaps more accurately, resurrect from them. Harrow, on the other hand, is death itself. As the prince of the underworld, he is utterly fascinated with Lenore in what I would consider an unhealthy obsession.
The plot stays fairly true to the original Snow White storyline, but with darker twists woven into the familiar elements: the cabin in the woods, true love’s kiss, and, my personal favorite, the loyal animals that follow her everywhere.
If you are expecting a sweet retelling, this is not the book for you. It had me laughing at Lenore’s witty commentary, swooning over her and Harrow, worrying for the lives of several characters, and even recoiling at the horrors inflicted on others. Overall, I felt this was an easy five stars. The twists were always exciting to unravel, and I found myself glued to my Kindle, pulling an all-nighter as I devoured the wild ride this story delivered.
The Snow White/ Howls moving castle crossover I didn’t know I needed but loved. 👀👀
Lenore is not a normal princess. She has a special touch for healing and a fascination with bones. But when her family decides she needs to get married and sets her up with an arranged marriage she just wants to escape.
Harrow (death) is obsessed with her from the moment he sets his sights on her. And for once he wants to be seen by her.
Prince Cassius shows up and immediately Lenore is interested in him and drawn to his warmth. But not everything is as it seems and she still can’t seem to lose her feeling for death himself.
So much happens along the way and through everything Harrow is by her side and fighting for her and for them.
Shadow play from the shadow daddy himself and honestly so many great spicy scenes. Even from his monster form 😏
You get to see characters from book one as well as nods to future characters as well!!
Overall I really enjoyed this one from Violet! But please make sure you check ALL the TW on this one as some messed up stuff goes on that you do need to know about before going into it!!
Title: Cruelest Kiss and Fairest Blood ARC Author: Violet Taylor Star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ .75 Spice rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Tropes: monster romance, fairytale retelling, only he can save her, dark and spicy, he falls first, unhinged MMC, touch her and die, Edgar Allan Poe x Howl's Moving Castle Castle Favorite quote: My body stiffens. “Lenore.” The syllables tumble out on a growl. "Relax. Let go of your control and let me make you feel good."
Review: Overall the plot was interesting. The array of characters was unique and. diverse. I was rooting for characters, questioning motives, and loving the loyalty. The ending is an unconventional HEA. If there was more of the epilogue vibes in the rest of the book, that'd be amazing. It does feel like a rough draft still with some parts not making sense to me; like the battle with the Beast against Catreena. Some parts weren't explained but it's fine when reading with a grain of salt and not need a literary work.
“I may have the wings of an angel and the tongue of a saint, but when you come down from all those heavenly org@sms, you’ll find yourself in bed with the devil.” 😈
Lenore has to get married, her mother and father has arranged a marriage - all for it to fall apart before it takes place. She’s not like others and has a heart for healing. ❤️🩹 Harrow, the amazing Shadow Daddy 🥵 is obsessed with Lenore since he first saw her and her collection of bones 🦴 😂 He protects Lenore at any cost.
•• The amount of betrayal, tension and WTF moments really made this book GREAT. My favorite moment had to be between Harrow and Renard 😂😂 •••••••••••••••••••••••• Although my rating is a bit lower, the book itself was great - there was just some scenes that were uncomfortable for me, so please read the TW.
