I’ve pooped on the first two so this review will finish the job. Again, all the techniques employed for this adaptation are disastrous to Zahn’s initial vision. Compression and abbreviation becomes further compounded resulting a bevy of amputations. With only a corpse of the source material its based on left, there’s only carrion for critics like yours truly to work with.

Except here, the plague of Baron’s myopic vision meets a crescendo that sees fit to toss in everything including the kitchen sink. Now his not-so-tried-and-true hack and slash job on the original text encounters something of a Herculean paradox - with each yarn shorn or snipped, a new hydra of person or place springs forth. Ballooning and burgeoning with details all across the galaxy the conflict between abbreviation and expansion reveals inherent contradictions that can never be solved.

Resulting in a gunk mish-mash at every level, there’s no good, plenty of bad and an overabundance of ugly.

I'm glad to have read this once, but I'm also glad it's not official Star Wars canon because it doesn't quite live up to the quality I've come to expect. I'd be willing to watch all 3 volumes combined into a single 90 minute animated movie, but the story's not worthy of a movie trilogy in my opinion. As far as the art goes it was mostly good, my only complaint being some harsh facial shadows here and there (especially on the women). If you're a Star Wars fan this is an interesting "what if" scenario, but I'm super excited for the future of the series they have in mind instead. 3.5/5

The storyline was more coherent in this volume of the Thrawn trilogy adaptations, but it was really talky and tedious to get through. Some of that is an artifact of the times, but so many pages felt like illustrated novels, rather than a true meeting of text and image to convey the story. And some major plot points just happen inexplicably while the narrative moves on.

A few good ideas sprinkled between the crevasses of the turdpile that is a derivative rehash of the OG trilogy. Super underwhelming storyline overall and I have no clue why would anyone with half a brain suggest that this would have been a better basis for the sequel film trilogy (which I am not a fan of btw).

Better art than the first, but not as good as the second.
(WHY do artists change within the same series)!?

I'm so glad the cover artist didn't do the work though, because Mara looks like a sexy catwoman type of deal.

C'Baoth looks crazy, which fits with his character. Thrawn is very chiseled, and in some scenes his cheekbones are extremely annunciated. It makes for some very odd panels.

I feel like Karrde is pretty much the same in all 3 comics (though not as good as in the 1st), which is humorous.

Winter and Mara's lips are very full, which looks odd.
Sometimes Han looks like a teenager, which is jarring.

I love the page with Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Yoda looking over Han & Leia when the twins are born.
There is one scene with Karrde and his cadre against the Empire, and the art is beautiful. I would love a puzzle or poster of that.

Mazzic looks really awesome.

On page 110, I think that's a portrait of Padmé behind Leia, which is very neat.
The image of Evil!C'Baoth is properly creepy.

I adored the books when I read them in the 90's, and I remembered them as the literal best Star Wars, neigh, the best fiction stories I had read in my entire life. However, unfortunately I had a very hard time getting through this series. A lot was removed because of course it had to be truncated for a graphic novel, but it really cut out so much, sometimes you feel completely lost between pages, and especially between books. I am so sad to only rate this as three stars, but I would be hard pressed to recommend this version, even to someone who loves comic books, and also doesn't have the time or desire to read the full novels. The story simply had almost 0 impact on me, and I literally remembered next to nothing about it going in. I really had hoped to relive an amazing childhood memory, and perhaps that is why it felt so flat.

This review is for the entire "Thrawn trilogy" series of comics (rather: the trade paperbacks of the same).
I disliked how Mara Jade was drawn -- clothes and person. Since she is one of my favourite Wars characters, that might be seen as a bad start. And I had problems with many of the other characters' faces, too. But their depiction was rather consistent; and I loved other parts of the art (tech, flora & fauna) in this trilogy of comic series, which translates Zahn's three novels to graphics. The transition is not quite faithful, which is impossible for such action-packed and intricate, plot-driven novels; but it was done very elegantly. Big chucks of complex storylines were cramped -- successfully and seemingly easily -- into one or two panels. Not a mean feat. The trade paperback covers are great, if a bit too diverse in style; the issue covers were mostly great, too, I think. The individual collections of the comics weigh in at very solid 3*; but I feel confident in awarding this last installment 4* to compensate for the previous parts' surplus of awesomeness.

The fast-paced culmination to the Thrawn trilogy comic adaptation certainly delivers in a big way! The art by Edvin Biukovic and Eric Shanower really shines through, and finally you can see the little ways where Timothy Zahn tied all the loose ends and created more.

I enjoyed the adaptation a lot, but I still recommend everyone to read the books, there is so much more, more action, more detail, more drama, than can possibly be told in a few comic pages.

A comparatively strong finish to the trilogy here in this one - doesn't seem to suffer as many of the drawbacks of the first two, and maintains a good degree of tension throughout. A couple of confusing bits still, but less so and good to see all the characters in action. A good finish to an okay adaptation.

My main complaint was, like most graphic novel adaptations, there were odd gaps where information that was kinda crucial for the plot was never revealed. If I never read the originals prior to this, stuff wouldn't totally make sense in the end. But, it's still an amazing adaptation.

A decent adaptation; I especially love the side characters like Winter, Aves, Wes, and Hobbie. Though it raised my ire when the artist ridiculously drew like four panels are Mara sneaking around the Imperial Palace naked for like four panels for no other reason than to be titlillating.

After seeing the latest Star Wars film, I was once again drawn to Timothy Zahn's The Thrawn Trilogy. But instead of re-reading it in its original format, I decided to give a try to the graphic novel editions.

Overall, the trilogy was a good read, even though it did not reach the quality of the novels. Many events were sped through a little bit too quickly and sometimes I suspect it might have been difficult to understand certain issues unless you had read the novels already. Nevertheless, for someone familiar with the story, these graphic novels were an excellent way to revisit the storyline without having to re-read the entire series for... I think the fourth time.

With graphic novels, I find that a lot of my enjoyment is dependent on the art. With this series, every graphic novel had a different artists and their styles and quality varied significantly. The first part had perhaps the shakiest art with the characters almost unrecognisable, while the second graphic novel had the best art by Terry Dodson (penciller) and Kevin Nowlan (inker) as well as Pamela Rambo (colorist). Their illustrations were a pleasure to behold. Unfortunately, the last graphic novel's quality was somewhere in the middle of the two other parts.

A minor annoyance was the lettering used in the entire series that required a lot of getting used to with letters U and H too easily confused with each other (mainly confusing U for an H). I didn't get used to them until the third part in the series.

Except for the artist, which made another star in my rating, I sing the same song as to the fist 2 chapters of this trilogy:

This is cheap, cheesy, and does not explore anything except using the same clichés of the mega-blast first trilogy, I mean, the second. Pastiches of the original formula... perhaps a "Hero with a Thousand Faces" (not this one), or Plato's cave allegory, or whatever juicy philosophical "Admirable New Worlds" Lucas studied. Anyway, in any terms this sequel doesn't have any of it. Dry as a popcorn hollywood special effects action fantasy blockbuster. Dry as Lucas is since the Ewoks, he became The baron. The rest of this space soap of crap are disciples as the writer of this work, of a looping process of imitating a pseudo-god that after creating a jewel with a gem stone team, became obsessed in controlling his democracy wanting to be emperor. As the program says... Bull... Salve Robot Chicken!

As the comics adaptation of The Thrawn Trilogy comes to a close, I can't say much in criticism other than two points. There were too many areas where the reader had to really know the source material to get a full explanation, and the last battle was too truncated for my tastes.

Other than that, I quite enjoyed this one and the art and pacing were quite good. I'd say this was the best of the three adaptations. It's a pity it took the folks working on this until the end to hit their swing, but they did and it was worth it.

Highly Recommended.

I skipped the middle graphic novel (Dark Force Rising) in this series and went to the end. Didn't make the most sense, but I pieced together what I was missing pretty quickly. Was better than the first of the series, but not by much. Maybe the new movies will stoke my interest in these, but they were probably much better as written word rather than graphical.

Having failed to turn Luke, C'baoth, the Dark Jedi now targets the Jedi twins (Han & Leia's children). Grand Admiral Thrawn is near victory and the new Republic must depend upon Chewbaca and Lando Calrissian and a confederacy of smugglers against a clone army. FANTASTIC!

Overall I enjoyed this series. I did feel some of the jumps from one scene to another were a bit abrupt. But I am assuming this was an affect of trying to adapt the original novel to this format.

I did really enjoy revisiting these great characters again.
