He’s the beast I can’t escape. I’m the prisoner he’s determined to claim.
Emery
Six-two, sinfully gorgeous, with noble lineage, and a cliffside castle. What's not to like?
Exactly the problem, until I convince myself the cold, unreadable man my father insists I marry is gay.
That’s why I agree to the business merger. I swore I’d never marry for love. I’ve seen how it ruins women in arranged marriages. My mother included.
Lachlan might look like a sexy villain ripped from a romance novel, but I’m safe from falling for him. He’s not even into me. I can open my dream bookstore, live on my terms, and play wife only when necessary.
Until our wedding day when he kisses me like he owns me—stealing my breath and my sanity. Now the chemistry between us is undeniable, but I refuse to fall for his seductive, controlling ways.
Lachlan
Emery has no idea what I’m really after.
Two goals brought me to the altar. Both personal. Both inevitable. Take her father’s company to end a centuries-old feud. Claim the golden princess with the tempting mouth and defiant pride.
She thinks she can keep her distance. She has no idea what she signed up for, or how far I’ll go to claim what's mine.
Tara Gallina writes across various romance genres, from new adult and college to small town and fantasy. While most of her books are steamy, she’s also penned a few sweeter titles.
Her stories blend angst, tormented heroes, a hint of humor, and the occasional tear. Many of her stories come alive through settings inspired by her travels.
When she’s not writing, she loves to visit gardens, New England in the fall, European castles, and Caribbean beaches. She has a fairy garden, a Lady Lair for writing, favors the color pink, and only drinks wine that tastes like melted sugar.
She lives in the Sunshine State with her husband, though her two sons have since left for college. Her writing journey began in 2015 when she signed with a literary agent for a young adult retelling. Since then, she’s moved on to publishing steamy romances and hasn’t looked back.
TROPES: -arranged marriage -enemies to lovers -high tension -touch her and die
Emery and Lachlan are enemies who are in an arranged marriage, of Lachlan’s doing. She’s attracted to him at first sight, but misunderstands and is under the assumption that he’s gay. 😆 On their wedding day she finds out the truth and runs from him. He gives chase, of course.
I really enjoyed their banter. The sexual tension they had was off the charts! The storyline was pretty amazing, this was my first read by this author and will NOT be my last.
SPOILERS for OW drama: The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because of the so not needed OW drama. 😭 His previous fuck buddy, who is his friend’s sister and actually has a ROOM at their castle/estate creates drama. And there’s a flashback of a sex scene between Lachlan and the woman, which I wish I could erase from my memory lmao. That kinda gave me the feeling he was a much more (sexually) dominant man in bed and was.. I don’t know, holding back from the actual heroine? Sure, there’s rough sex scenes with her, but he literally choked the OW out until she was unconscious in the flashback and had anal sex with her. 🫠
Either way though, it was a solid read and I really enjoyed their banter storyline otherwise.
SAFETY: Virgin/celibate: virgin heroine, not sure how long ago the relationship with the OW was for the hero though to gauge celibacy for the hero? It was hinted that they started a sexual relationship 3 years ago and it lasted for “several years”. No other relationship/hookup was mentioned. OM/OW: no OM except the prologue when heroine was a teen. OW as mentioned above. Cheating/sharing: none Kinks: praise, rough sex, bdsm-ish (light), dirty talk Triggers: kidnapping, mental trauma for heroine from her parents, the heroine has a medical problem of some sort where she occasionally passes out when she’s exercising or orgasming. Very slight SA from OM (kidnapper). HEA: yes!
I love a good dark mafia romance and this book was no exception. This book has everything I love about a dark mafia romance, it’s got it thrilling intense plot with lots of twists and turns, an arranged marriage that starts with hate but turns into so much more, and a morally grey mmc who is basically like a caveman with how possessive he is. This plot was amazing, it’s a typical arranged marriage plot. She hates him, but they have to get married for business reasons. But the funniest thing was the fact that she thought he was gay. She thought “it’s ok he’s gay he’s not gonna want to have sex with me” and girl she was so far from the truth. Because it’s only at the alter that she realises how screwed she is. Both characters have traumatic pasts with secrets that are only beginning to unravel and I loved all the shocking plot twists. My mind was so blown away, and it led up to a super sweet ending with I also loved. Both characters were very unique, she’s very feisty very flighty, and he’s cold hearted and calculating, but they’re both actually softies inside who are afraid of getting hurt when falling in love. Their story is beautiful and emotional and shows how sometimes you have to lose something to truly appreciate it. And I cried, quite a lot so I was very attached to the characters. Because I kind of saw myself in Emery, a person who acts extra confident to hide their insecurities. In conclusion this book was amazing, intense hate to love tension, a revenge plot, and some good ole possessive mmcs make a top tier book. I give this a 4.5/5
Emery and Lachlan are such captivating characters. Their chemistry is electric and their dynamic is the perfect mix of danger, passion, and intensity. Lachlan’s possessive, dark edge makes him the ultimate book boyfriend, and Emery’s strength and vulnerability make her the perfect match for him, even if she has no idea what she’s getting herself into when she agrees to marry him.
This story delivers everything I love in a dark, enemies-to-lovers romance: tension that keeps you breathless, twists that make your jaw drop, and moments of tenderness that sneak in when you least expect them. Add in the mafia backdrop, and it’s pure perfection. If you crave a story full of danger, devotion, and sizzling chemistry, Princess of Pride is a must-read.
I am once again blown away by Tara Gallina. This is book 2 of the Cruel Legacies series however each book can be read as a stand alone. And while I could get behind that I love reading them in order.
This is the story of Emery and Lachlan. And oh what a story it was. This ride was a crazy one. But surprising not as crazy as book 1. Still just as good and more than spicy as we come to expect from Tara.
Emery is forced into an arranged marriage to Lachlan who wants her father’s company Spencer Securities. Unknown to Emery, Lachlan has wanted her from the first moment he saw her but he had to bide his time and wait on her father’s approval.
Emery is sassy, mouthy, a runner, snarky and beautiful inside and out. I related to her so much it was crazy. She goes into the marriage negotiating terms thinking Lachlan is gay and he would never want her. Little does she know he wants every single part of her.
Lachlan is wealthy, seriously ripped, hot as the sun and infuriating as all get out. He knows how to push all her buttons and does it well.
The chemistry is off the charts between these two. It was insane. And while the Big Bang didn’t happen for a while he showed her pleasure beyond her imagination without ever going all the way. Which was crazy hot!
This story has vibes of dark romance, touch and die, murder, betrayal, lust, forced/arranged marriage and of course love.
There is kidnapping, murder, arranged marriage, lying, family trauma, etc., so if these things trigger you please read the trigger warnings and make your judgements accordingly.
I loved this book and book one and I don’t know which is my favorite. They suck you in and hold you captive. I loved the beautiful imagery she uses to explain the spaces and places they go.
I love how these two know how to push each other to a certain point. It was fun to watch them become enamored with each other against their will and better judgement.
This was a fun ride and I can’t wait for book 3. If you’ve never read any of Tara Gallina’s book run, don’t walk and go grab one!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Part of the description mentions her being a prisoner and him a beast, saying this gives a Beauty and the Beast retelling vibes - but I honestly wasn’t getting those feelings at all with this one, so I’m a bit confused on how I missed the mark.
We follow Emery and Lachlan. Emery’s father is marrying her off to a colleague and made it a point to make sure that his daughters stayed pure before their marriage. Made it a point to say that damaged goods weren’t acceptable. After brief conversation and Lachlan not denying it, Emery agrees to marry Lachlan because she thinks he’s gay.
Now that they’re married, there’s definitely a lot of childish behavior on her part. Which I get it, she’s you, she’s supposed to seem childish compared to Lachlan since we have an age gap - but she was so frustrating at times.
Lachlan has family troubles. To the point where his cousin tries to kidnap Emery, so he takes her to their castle home in Scotland where he can make sure she’s protected. They spend a bit more time together. They talk. They evolve. We have a miscommunication issue and Emery makes the problem ten times worse.
I’d say this was closer to a 3.5 stars but rounded up. I adored Lachlan and his brother - but Emery left some room for longing for a better, or different FMC.
A huge thank you to Tara Gallina for an eARC in return for an honest review.
Princess of Pride by Tara Gallina was a fast-paced read that took me through a whole range of emotions. The theme itself is one that always gets me hooked — I’m constantly drawn to books like this. The writing itself is absolutely beautiful — vivid, emotional and easy to get lost in.
We have a smart female character who manages to turn her situation to her advantage and a male character who’s intense and possessive. The combination is explosive. I also enjoyed the little misunderstandings that added some spice to the story.
Still, I felt like something was missing. Also, the frequent mentions of romance books pulled me out of the story a bit — they were fun and relatable, but I wish there had been fewer of them.
Thank you so much @greyspromo for sending me this ARC! ❤️

“Love isn’t a specific plotline that everyone follows. It can be messy, challenging, frustrating, pleasurable, and as unique as the two people involved. It can grow and change. It can come from nothing, even from hate. It’s the acceptance of another person’s flaws and the willingness to cherish that person anyway.”
A sinfully broody beast & a princess with pride: irresistible, addictive and deliciously steamy!
4.5 ⭐️ | 4 🌶️
Tara Gallina’s Princess of Pride, the second installment in her Cruel Legacies series, is everything I crave in a dark, modern arranged-marriage romance: a mix of slow-burn tension, sizzling chemistry, and a love story that feels both dangerous and inevitable.
From page one, I was hooked. Gallina wastes no time plunging readers into a world of wealth, legacy, and family feuds that make Succession look tame. Emery Spencer, the youngest daughter of an ultra-prestigious American family, has spent her life following rules written by everyone but herself. She’s smart, defiant, and ready to finally take control of her future… even if that means marrying for business instead of love.
Enter Lachlan: a broody, commanding, six-foot-something storm of control and quiet obsession. He’s the definition of a morally grey hero, the kind who can ruin your life and make you thank him for it. Their dynamic? Explosive. From the moment he walks onto the page, you feel the power struggle. And once that first kiss happens (hello, wedding day scene!), it’s game over.
This book has it all: 💼 Billionaire power plays 💋 Enemies-to-lovers tension 🔥 Possessive “my wife” energy 📖 A heroine chasing independence and identity 🏰 A moody castle and centuries-old secrets
Yes, you know from the start where their hearts will end up, but it’s the journey that makes this so addictive. The emotional push and pull, the simmering attraction, and the gradual unraveling of both characters kept me flipping pages like my life depended on it.
A perfect mix of passion, pride, and heartbreak, Princess of Pride cements Tara Gallina as a must-read for fans of dark, decadent romance with heart.
Thank you to Grey’s Promotions for the e-ARC, and congratulations to Tara Gallina on this fiery upcoming release (November 6th)! I’ll definitely be diving into Cruel Legacies #1 next: I need all the details on this wickedly addictive world.
Tara Gallina returns with another captivating story full of family feuds, dangerous secrets, and irresistible chemistry. Princess of Pride is an arranged-marriage, enemies-to-lovers romance that perfectly balances modern passion with old-money darkness.
I went in expecting Lachlan to be cold and cruel, but he surprised me. He’s grumpy, yes, but not heartless. Beneath all that control and sharpness, he feels deeply. He listens, cares, and quietly loves Emery long before he ever admits it. You can see it in the way he protects her, even when it risks everything he’s worked for. And honestly, I loved that about him.
Emery, on the other hand, starts off naïve, believing she can control the situation and get the life she wants by marrying a man she assumes is gay. But her independence, pride, and quiet defiance make her such an interesting heroine. She’s strong, vulnerable, and constantly torn between freedom and the magnetic pull of the man she swore she’d never want.
Their chemistry is Off the charts. Every scene between them simmers with tension and that slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers energy I crave. The story is told mostly from Emery’s POV, which makes her internal conflict hit even harder; that tug-of-war between pride and surrender feels so real.
Some parts felt a little vague, but the emotional depth and pacing more than made up for it. It is tense, emotional, addictive and sometimes funny!!! The kind of story you sink into without realizing how fast the pages are flying. A solid continuation of the series: dark in tone but tender at its core. Tara Gallina once again proves she knows how to write passion, tension, and heart.
Thank you to the author for the ARC. This is my honest review.
I had a hard time putting this book down. The main character is a young heiress in a contractual marriage. She gets out of her controlling family’s house to find herself married to a cold but devastatingly handsome Scotsman who thrives on control as well.
The storyline keeps you interested (Scotland castle anyone?! Kidnapping?) and there was plenty of spice.
On a slightly disappointing note, I was hoping Emery would be more of a badass. After initial impression that she was independent and going to take charge of her own life, she came across as impulsive (stop with the fight or flight) and trying to constantly go home to a place where no one wanted her anyways.
Similarly Lachlan was hot and cold for a large portion of this book, and he was confusing me (and Emery apparently).I was glad to see some of his POV chapters in there but could have used a few more?
Also, shout out to the author for referencing a very popular Dragon rider book with their throne scene.
Thank you for the arc Hidden Gems and Tara Gallina! This is a voluntary free review.
Emery has always been aware she would be in an arranged marriage. Her father fiercely guarded her "innocence", even cutting her off so she would behave. Enter Lachlan, a mysterious and enigmatic man who makes a deal with her father. He whisks her away to his Scottish castle, where she discovers danger, and complex relationships. Neither believe in love, but can they overcome their pride and build something?
I really enjoyed this international treat. The author defines this as "light-dark" romance, and I'd agree. A great entrypoint for those curious about dark romances. Lachlan was dreamy, broody, and was book husband material. Emery was strong and fierce, but soft and innocent in a lot of ways. They fit well together. I enjoyed their journey from enemies to lovers.
I recommend this if you want a "beginner" dark romance, with tense scenes, spicy spice, and a protective MMC that will do whatever he can to protect what's his.
Scottish, English, mysterious, dark, dirty, secretive, family drama, deception, innocent virgin, I mean the list goes on and on and on…
Emery being the picture perfect image of innocence that any family would want. But little does she know, she’s had a shadow and now has an arranged marriage thanks to her father who carries secrets of his own.
Lachlan is the man every woman wants, but now can’t have. Due to his marriage and determination to take over a company, with other secret motives, he plans to break Emery down and making her fall in love with him. By claiming her every way he can and seducing her.
Their story ends in such a way I honestly was expecting a surprise twist, but maybe some walls can be broken down and expose some light. Maybe secrets are meant to be shared.
ARC Review of ‘Princess of Pride’ by Tara Galina. I was expecting a totally different angle from this book. Did not expect the Scottish English reference for the MMC, and I loved it! Emery is the youngest daughter in a family where status and looks count. She dreams of running her own business, but instead is used as a pawn, and her match? Lachlan the tall hunky Scotsman who has his own hidden agenda. Will they both give in to their feelings? Or will they proceed as tho this is just a business deal. Emery feels younger than portrayed, she was sheltered so makes sense. Lachlan has a wall up and his character slowly had his walls broken. Their chemistry was a nice push and pull, their 🌶️ (when finally consummated) was deliciously written, Lachlan is very very generous🫣
Book two in the Cruel Legacies series. Lachlan wants two thing her father company and her. The thing with Lachlan is he always gets what he wants. He has falling hard for emery. He loves her defiance and specially her sassy mouth. Emery is forced to marry Lachlan. It’s ok to be lol he’s gay. No problem stay married and then divorce. He goes her everything she wants still it’s not enough. When her life is in danger. She has to choose one of two evils. Who do u think she picks ?
I loved this book, just as much as the first of the series. I could not put it down. I enjoyed every twist and turn in this one. It was a bit darker than book one of the series, but it wasn’t anything that I couldn’t handle. Tara has a talent for making her books seem realistic enough that I felt like I was there with the characters living the story. I loved how Emery thought she was getting one thing and then got something she never thought she wanted when Lachlan entered the picture.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sizzle and smolder is the heat between Lachlan and Emory. What began as a clinical business deal for nefarious reasons turns into a romance novel. I liked how Emory had spark and kept trying to escape but her fainting was a bit much. I do like how territorial Lachlan was and how he was brought to his knees by a mere slip of a girl. Did I mention there’s a castle and a fierce clan rivalry to boot?? Thanks Grey’s Promotion for the advance copy.
Princess of Pride is book two in the Cruel Legacies series. Both books can be read as a standalone but I find them enjoyable when read in order. I love Lachlan and Emery so much. Reading this book was immersive and I really didn't want it to end. Excited for more.
Not having read any other books by Gallina before, I didn’t know what to expect before reading Princess of Pride. Needless to say, I was impressed with the overall story. As the second book in the Cruel Legacies Series, this dark romance will leave you wanting for more.
For Emery Spencer, having grown up among the wealthy and powerful has certain expectations that she must follow. After all, the Spencer name carries a lot of weight in Connecticut. Her dad’s Fortune 500 company, Spencer Security is on the line as he will only pass it down to the family. Meaning that setting up his daughters with arrange marriages is all to keep their fortune in the family. Emery has always known about her impending future, but when she finds out that she is going to marry Lachlan Ashford, a part of her is confused. No matter how good looking he is, he doesn’t seem interested in her at all. Yet, that could be a benefit of their arrangement that Emery won’t pass. As long as Lachlan keeps his part of the deal their marriage might actually work. Little does she know that he has plans of his own and that includes claiming her as his for good.
I throughly enjoyed reading Princess of Pride, the instant chemistry between the characters was electric. There is no denying that Emery is attracted to Lachlan, he is compared to a young James Fraser from Outlander, which is by far one of my personal favorite tv shows. Between the swoon worthy moments to their banter, we also get family drama that takes things to a whole new level. All in all, I would highly recommend checking out this book. I cannot wait to read more from the author in the future! :)
***I received an advanced copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.***
A very engaging arranged marriage romance story that's about Emery and Lachlan. This story captivated me from the beginning to the end. Lachlan is the man her controlling father chose for her. Lachlan marries Emery to get her father’s successful company, Spencer Securities since Emery's father is retiring. Emery believes Lachlan is gay, so she believes for once in her life that she's in charge of their relationship but discovers she's wrong. Emery has dreams to open a bookstore. Do her dreams come true? What ensues is an enjoyable story with characters that were personable and likable, with lots of twisty drama, and steamy romance.
For someone that did not read the first book (this is the 2nd in the cruel legacy series) I didn’t feel confused or that something was left out. I absolutely LOVED this book!! The banter between Emery and Lachlan is perfect. The chemistry between them is perfect. Also, this is a light dark romance so it’s a good start for beginners.
This book took me on a ride. From the very beginning, Lachlan had me stressed in the best way possible because of his personality, and by the end, Emery had me feeling the same way. The tension between the MCs was constant, with a lot of back and forth happening as well as emotions. It was intense, but I liked it. The smut was also intense…and I enjoyed it a lot too. There is angst and a lot of feelings happening; I found myself really feeling for Emery throughout the book. But one thing I really liked was the author including a lot of Emery’s inner dialogue because I felt like I was in her head, and I was feeling what she was feeling. However, while the pace started strong, I did feel like the story slowed down a bit towards the end. Still, the twists kept me engaged, and the chemistry between the characters made this book an emotional, spicy, and memorable read. This book is still definitely worth a read if you enjoy angsty romance!
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to be an eARC reader!
Princess of Pride delivered exactly what I’ve come to expect (and love) from Tara Gallina - fast pacing, messy secrets, and that addictive spark between characters that keeps you glued to the page even when you promise yourself just one more chapter.
If you’ve ever been curious about dark romance but didn’t know where to start, Tara is honestly one of the easiest entry points. The Cruel Legacy series especially has that perfect balance of tension, danger, and emotional payoff without throwing you into the deep end right away.
Emery and Lachlan were exactly the chaotic, sharp-edged duo I thought they would be. An arranged marriage for… well, many reasons (none of them simple), and they spend most of the book navigating new power dynamics, family expectations, and all the secrets. Tara always manages to make those reveals feel earned.
What I love most is how she writes chemistry. It’s not loud or forced - it’s this steady shimmer underneath everything, even when the characters are angry, confused, or pretending they don’t want each other. Emery is another strong Tara heroine: shaped by circumstance, underestimated by the men around her, but so much more capable than anyone gives her credit for.
This was a fun, fast read that slotted perfectly into what this series always gives me: intrigue, drama, a touch of darkness, and that morally-grey-man energy Tara does so well.
Small note for readers who care about this: there is some faint other woman drama (he’s over it, she’s still annoyed) and a third-act breakup. They didn’t bother me, but just flagging it in case it’s a dealbreaker for someone.
Another small note: this book will spoil the ending of book one and some of the plot in it - if you want to read this series start with book one.
Tropes: 🩷 Enemies to lovers 🏰 Modern Gilded Age 🩷 Beauty & the Beast vibes 🏰 Arranged marriage 🩷 A touch of darkness 🐾 She runs from him (and he likes it) 🩷 Morally grey MMC 🏰 Interconnected stand alones with cameos
𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘦 by Tara Gallina is the second book in her 𝙲𝚛𝚞𝚎𝚕 𝙻𝚎𝚐𝚊𝚌𝚒𝚎𝚜 𝚜𝚎𝚛𝚒𝚎𝚜 — a world of privilege, secrets, and dangerously beautiful people who rule their kingdoms with sharp tongues and guarded hearts. While each book can stand alone, this one dives deeper into the glittering chaos of high society, where pride becomes both a weapon and a weakness.
Our story follows 𝙀𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙧, the fiery daughter who refuses to be a pawn in her family’s political games, and 𝙇𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙡𝙖𝙣 𝙈𝙖𝙘𝙍𝙚𝙞𝙙 𝘼𝙨𝙝𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙙, the brooding heir with an iron heart and a legacy built on power, lies, and reputation. Their paths collide through an arranged marriage — but both soon realize that behind their walls, they might’ve met their match.
The chemistry? Electric. The tension? Deliciously slow-burning. Tara Gallina captures that perfect blend of grumpy x sunshine, enemies-to-lovers, and arranged marriage with a touch of dark romance. There’s an underlying ache beneath every argument, a tenderness hidden in every insult, and a longing that grows so loud it practically hums off the page.
Emery is the kind of heroine who doesn’t need saving — she saves herself. And Lachlan? He’s the type of MMC who makes you want to throw the book one second and hug him the next. Watching his control unravel, piece by piece, is the best kind of heartbreak.
Tara Gallina has a knack for making her worlds feel cinematic — every look, every whispered line feels like it belongs in a dark, glittering film. Princess of Pride is a love story born from power, control, and the courage to let go.
Princess of Pride, the 2nd book in the Cruel Legacies series, is an arranged marriage, enemies-to-lovers, dark romance. Emery is young, proud and feisty, she has always known she would be in an arranged marriage. Lachlan is quiet, broody, a mysterious man who makes a deal with Emery’s father.
Emery is naïve and childlike, she thinks she has the upper hand, that Lachlan is gay and this marriage is purely one of convenience. Lachlan feels cold and calculating and it’s at the alter Lachlan makes it clear to Emery that this most certainly not just a marriage of convenience!! Lachlan takes Emery to his home in Scotland, where a complex web of family issues, relationships, danger, power, secrets and lies starts to unravel.
Emery and Lachlan have this crazy hot chemistry simmering between them, but neither believe in love, but behind that facade they’re just afraid of getting hurt. Both have traumatic pasts with secrets that are only beginning to unravel but with slow-burning passion between growing, they realize that behind their walls, they might’ve met their match. It’s a bit surprising that Lachlan turns out to be as protective and possessive of Emery as he is, even when it risks everything he’s worked for.
Emery and Lachlan’s journey is a slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers which sees them fliting between duty and desire, honour and heart, as both characters are forced to confront what pride truly costs—and what love demands. It’s about two people learning to trust not just each other, but themselves.
Princess Pride by Tara Gallina is book two in the Cruel Legacies series. I’m a fan of this author and have read so many other books by the author so I had high hopes going into this one. When I started the book I just couldn’t put it down, I was invested. But having some of my favorite tropes… enemies to lovers, arranged marriage and grumpy/sunshine to name a few really sealed the deal for me. I would also mention checking trigger warnings to be on the safe side as it’s a dark romance but on the lighter side with heavy doses of morally gray. The characters were well written but what I enjoyed most was the verbal back and forth that went on between Emery and Lachlan. Each character had good and flawed characteristics… Emery was sassy, adventurous and stubborn but in the same hand was and could be a bit on the childish side. (Two thumbs up for her dream though!) Lachlan is focused, determined, dealing with personal trauma also he does fall first, not to mention he has an accent. On the flip side he comes across cold hearted. A highlight for me was definitely the chemistry between the two characters. I thought the story was well written and described well. I flew through the book and was hooked with all the action, the tension and the spice. Overall I had a great reading experience and can’t wait to see what else is up this author’s sleeve. Needless to say I recommend not only this book but all of the author’s other works as well. Also, a reminder don’t forget to check trigger warnings.
This is book two in The Cruel Legacies Series and it is Emery and Lachlan’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. Emery’s father insisted that she marry Lachlan and she goes with it especially as she thinks that he is gay but she couldn’t be more wrong as she will find out and all of this happened because Lachlan wants her father’s company Spencer Securities but how will it all work out in the end. The attraction and chemistry between Emery and Lachlan is so intes and strong but she decided that she didn’t want that at all because all she wanted to do was live her own life on her own terms and away from her toxic and controlling family but sometimes you don’t always get what you want in the end. Emery and Lachlan are so perfect together and for each other even though they are the total opposite of each other in every single way because he is brood, possessive, controlling, hot and what he wants he gets in any way that he can where as Emery is sassy, tough, says what she wants without thinking of the consequences and she is so smart and wants to live her life on her own terms which causes so much drama. The twists and turns will have you unable to put this book down and have you turning the pages to see what would happen next and it is so addictive that it will keep your attention throughout. Tara Gallina is a amazing author and writer and her books are definitely worth reading and I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.
This is the first book I have read by Tara Gallina and my final thoughts are that I need MORE!!! I was completely entranced. You would not have been successful in separating me from the book while I was reading it.
Emery was one of my favorite characters by far! I loved her sass, stubborness, adventorous, and overall boss that is determined to get her dream. However, when he dad organizes an arranged marriage, she decides to do some negotiating on her own so that she can control part of her future. Her biggest dream is to own a bookstore (which I loved!). My favorite part about when she marries Lachlan, is that she is determined that he is gay. Never gives him a moment to tell her otherwise but thinking that way, gives her the courage and determination to make sure that she can pursue her dream.
Lachlan, phew, I needed a firehose to cool him down a few times. He comes off as a cold-hearted boss, but underneath, he is just a man that is afraid to love due to his own personal trauma. Lachlan becomes so dedicated and completely out of control with he body/desires when it comes to Emery. Especially when she defies him or attempts to runaway.
I was highly, highly satisfied with this book by the time I was finished with it. Dark romance, mafia, enemies to lovers, kidnapping, secrets, and slow burn are only a few of the tropes that are beautifully woven within "Princess of Pride". I am ready to fully dive in to more of Tara's books now that I have read this one.
I am so thankful to have recieved an ARC copy of "Princess of Pride". I was hooked onto every word.
Princess of Pride is book two of the Cruel Legacies Series.
There are a lot of cards being held close to the chest. Emery thinks she knows what is going on in her world, but she doesn't know the half of it. She has been made to feel poorly and used for a lot of her life. Her father constantly tells her that she will only be used for her name and money, and a lot of people keep confirming this idea. Then her family always makes her feel like second best and just an obligation. Her sister is the light of their life and she feels this constantly. So finally she accepts her fathers plans for her and marries his choice. But she has her own plans and thinks she can achieve what she wants. But what she doesn't know if her husband, Lachlan, has his own secrets that he has been keeping from her.
I liked seeing these two work through their marriage together. They both don't want to fall in love and show any affection, so there are a lot of misunderstandings between them. She tempts him when she can and he leaves her hanging. They both go at each other very well, knowing their weakness. When Emery finally discovers the secrets around her, her world implodes and a lot of things go wrong, but also right. We see how far Lachlan will go to keep her in his life. And sometimes emotions aren't a weakness, but a strength.
