Rate this book
Six countries consumed by fear. Two traitors controlled by Darkness. One fate given. One fate taken.

Rahuin has destroyed the Darkness’s army, but the war is far from over. After finding forgiveness, she still struggles with guilt over what she did and finds herself on a healing journey. Dais copes with the loss of someone dear to him while trying to keep his country from tearing itself apart. He’ll find himself questioning who he can trust, if he can trust anyone at all.

The Darkness continues his campaign against Casta with the help of King A’zre, whose doubt of his Master’s plans will cause him to take matters into his own hands. Princess Renell is hunted on her journey to save her kingdom. Together with Jarret, she’ll embark on a terrible quest to gain allies and save Lanckest.

These stories will converge in a war-torn world trying to find truth amongst people dominated by the effects of fear.

I am a YA/NA Christian Fantasy Author. I have been writing since I was seven years old- A short story I hand-wrote. Sadly, I don't have that story anymore, but my love for writing hasn't changed since! I am a follower of Jesus and I pray that all my writing reflects His grace and story. In my spare time, I see clients as a certified B.N.D (Naturopathic Doctor) or run a health-food store in the little mountain town I call home. I love all the seasons, cats, hot apple cider, cleaning, dancing and playing piano. Follow me on Instagram for more or subscribe to my newsletter to received monthly updates.

Perrie takes readers through thick and thin within a war ridden world, alongside dynamic characters in this clean fantasy that has it all along with a message that walks along with reality: hope in the light of darkness. An enthralling sequel to Partin: The Chosen, Partin: The Taken showed that even hero’s must face the consequences… fortunate or tragic.

This book was delicious and has shown the authors growth when it comes to writing. The pacing was beautifully done and the point of views pulled themselves together nicely. I loved reading the different characters POV (though I did have my preferred POV’s to read).

The tropes complimented the story and gave me a better understanding of each character. I can’t wait to read more of this series. Though I would say this book isn’t for the faint hearted! Please be aware of who of the things mentioned in the book because some can be triggering to certain readers!

Part Two of Partin: the Chosen. Diving deeper into the world of love, betrayal, intrigues, and self-discovery. Some changes in the cast of characters. It is fast-paced, with multiple POVs. The author gives a full tour of the characters' inner struggles and victories. Shapeshifters, dragons, curses, and magic - this book has it all and more. It's a story of redemption and self forgiveness. No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. But what they do about the consequences is what defines them.

An emotional and gripping story that pulls you in and doesn’t let go. The characters feel real, carrying guilt, loss, and hope in ways that truly resonate. Rahuin’s healing journey is touching, Dais’s struggle with trust is heartbreaking, and the rising fear across the world adds constant tension. The writing is powerful and heartfelt, making this fantasy feel deeply human and unforgettable.

I got to beta read this book and I loved it!

I’ll do my best with this review but keep in mind it’s been around a year since I read it and some things probably changed during the editing process!

I really enjoyed PTC (book one) when I read it and PTT is even better! I’ve really come to love the characters over the course of these books (especially Wen 🥰 I’m his number one fan). Watching their character develop has been a blast and these characters just can’t catch a break.
The story in PTT gets so much richer than before and you can really see Riley’s writing improving!

Like I said it’s been awhile since I read this and I want to avoid spoilers so I’ll leave this here.
But just know I definitely recommend giving this a read!

Content warning: lots of various trigger warnings. Miscarriage, death, rape, sex discussed inside and outside marriage, violent murder, I think that's it but not sure. These topics are handled well but please be intentional with what you read if any of these are over the top for you.

What is with me not reviewing books I enjoy? Good grief. This is the sequel to her first book Partin: The Chosen. We see the aftermath of the first books choices and traumas. Characters die and characters live. The king has to decide if he can forgive his wife and take her back into his arms. I really enjoyed a surprise bad guy turned grey morals guy and have secret hopes for what happens there. There is redemption and there is love but I can't say too much or I'll regurgitate the plot. I look forward to seeing what else Riley does with this series. And of course being given the resolution to cliffhangers.

This sequel lived up to the first. I am just as conflicted as last time.
Partin the taken, just like the chosen, is NOT a quick light read. This is a heavy book, that invokes deep thoughts and feelings and raise questions of morality. The characters each have deeply rooted beliefs and pasts and hurts and their choices always fit them so well- you know it was the choice they would make even if you are screaming for them to stop- or even if you agree it's best, the consequences leave u wondering if you are wrong and reflecting on your own beliefs.
This book brings up deeper themes of grace and mercy, and justice.
It is so easy to judge actions without knowing the pain behind the choices. But you see the choices. You know the people. And you start to realize that justice without grace and mercy misses the mark.
Theres a lot of different beliefs addressed in different people- sacrifice, worthiness, love, redemption- and I may not fully agree with every conclusion- but I think that's what makes me continue loving these books so much (even tho the whole time im terrified of hating it) Im not asked to agree, I'm brought to think and question and seek out truth with the characters.

I can not wait to read the next book!

Content warnings:
There is a lot of heavy topics (some of this may be considered spoilers)
Other less sensitive: kissing both pre and post marriage (mildly descriptive, I'm sensitive and I wasn’t uncomfortable but it wasn't just a “they kissed”) magic- both the kind related to darkness and curses and possession, and kinds viewed as gifts from God and by working with magical elements that He created.

I received a free EARC I was not required to give a good review.
