Starring twice as many Deadpools and Wolverines as any other book! What's better than The Best There Is partnered up with the Merc With The Mouth? How about adding daughters Ellie Camacho and Laura Kinney to the mission as they go up against a classic X-Villain? It's Wolverines and Deadpools, baby - in the clutches of the Shadow King! But who is he really after? Logan and Wade Wilson on an adventure though time and space, hacking and slashing their way through the Multiverse on an epic quest of heroism - and friendship! And the same two superstars at each other's throats in Madripoor!
Collecting WOLVERINES & DEADPOOLS (2025) #1-3, DEADPOOL/ WEAPON X-TRACTION (2024) and DEADPOOL VS. SLASH 'EM UP (2025).
Even though the main selling point is the first story here: Wolverine x 2 Deadpool X 2.. I much prefer the first back up story Ryan North's X-Traction....some snappy dialogue and intricate detailed art.
I really enjoyed the main story/mini-series of thus book. Most of the points I took off because of the X-Traction story, then the Slash 'Em Up brought it back up for me.
Wolverines and Deadpools (2025): An excellent story. Plenty of action, hood artwork and character development. Yes Deadpool is still insane, but he is a father now. I like the protective only slightly saner Wade. Wolverine also finds himself in a similar situation. Family bonding in a like or death battle. What more would anyone want? 4.5 stars.
X-Traction (2024): Why? What is the point of this story. I would have been happier if they left this story out. If I had bought it on its own I would be fuming. Wolverine and Deadpool are pulled through the multiverse with no explanation so the do what comes naturally try to kill each other and everyone else till the get home. I would have given this 1 star, but the last page's (heartwarming) message forced me to give it 2 stars (grudgingly).
Slash 'Em Up (2025): A good enjoyable story Deadpool is hired to retrieve something Wolverine is honour bound to retrieve it. Can these two stop killing/Slashing each other long enough to complete their mission and who gets the goods? Comedy, morality and action. 4.5 stars.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. I would like to see more of these crossover between these 4. Another idea would be the Laura and Wade and/or Ellie and Logan. The book finishes with a variant cover gallery.
The main story collected here is the Wolverines & Deadpools mini that ends Cody Ziglar's run on Deadpool. It's decent enough, and he manages to get some mileage out of the two pairings of Logan & Wade and Ellie & Laura. Plus, it's fun to see Agent X again after all these years.
The problem (I say problem) is that the supplementary material really shows it up. The Weapon X-Traction one-shot by Ryan North and Javier Garron is hilarious and beautifully drawn, and the Slash 'Em Up one-shot from Christos Gage and Alan Robinson is just as funny, though it feels a little oddly laid out (I think it must have been an Infinite Comic or something at some stage).
When your main story is overshadowed by the stuff that was really only included here to bulk out the trade, you know something's wrong. Ziglar's Deadpool run has been fine and dandy, but when held up against other material like this, the shine comes off.
3 Wolverine/Deadpool teamup stories. 1st was 4/5 for me. Deadpool plus Deadpool (Ellie) bring in Wolverine and Wolverine (Laura) to investigate child abductions. I liked the fathers of hero daughters vibe. I'm a sucker for family and friendship. I was disappointed the rest of the volume ditched the daughters. 2nd was a multiverse story where Logan and Wade fight through worlds. 1.5/5. Never really been a fan of multiverses. 3rd Logan and Wade are both competing to get a neural booster that can restore memories, but who will get it and will they give it to their client or keep it? 3/5. It was okay.
Wolverine has to put up with a lot. Shadow King is not a regular foe for the claw and sword heroes so they really have to think outside the box. Multiverse hijinx. Going after the same score for very different reasons.
