The Strange Academy students have a new school - and a new headmaster! Did you think Strange Academy would magically stay the same in a world where Doctor Doom reigns as Sorcerer Supreme?! Of course not! It's now Doom Academy! Relocated from New Orleans to Latveria, the best school of wizardry there ever was just got better (according to some). But as the students start their second year in greatly changed surroundings, you know things will not go as planned! When Zoe Laveau gets sucked into a fairy-tale book filled with childhood monsters, her friends and frenemies start the search for her - but find something far more troubling! What horrors lurk in this fantasy land, and what do they have to do with Doctor Doom?!

I didn’t know I needed Doctor Doom as the new headmaster of Marvel’s version of Hogwart’s but it turns out I did. This book was so much fun and had great artwork, too.

I enjoyed this book. Strange Academy or the Doom Academy kids will be kids and kids and as usual getting into trouble.

The transition for Doom (now the Sorcerer Supreme) to become emperor of the world might seemed to be quick but the transition to the Doom Academy was even more seamless. Zoe Laveau is not enrolled in the Doom Academy. She is not happy and does not feel welcome. However her and her friends from the Strange Academy literally fall into an old mystery.

Old friends are together again. Will they survive the first week at the Doom Academy? Will they find new friends or enemies or even possibly both.

I would love to see more of the kids. Any fans of the Strange Academy will love this. More or less the same formula. The book finishes with a variant cover gallery.

I have loved all of the Strange Academy stuff so far and now that the kids attend Doom Academy I’m still liking it. Doom Academy is kinda way cooler than Strange Academy, and from what I can see… Doom is a better headmaster. I liked the story of going into a book, they got creative with the art design that way. Can’t wait to see where the kids go next, wondering when they graduate? They seem pretty experienced at this point.

Strange Academy has had a rough go of it since the original series concluded (and even that was as a mini-series). A couple of one-shots, and now they seem to be relegated to event tie-in mini-series, with Blood Hunt previous to this, and now Doom Academy as part of the One World Under Doom banner.

At least we're still getting to see these characters, I guess. Or some of them - of the original class, we get Doyle, Zoe, and Shaylee, plus Zelma Stanton, plus a cast of new kids as the Strange Academy students merge with Doom Academy to form one big class for this new semester. Then Zoe gets dragged into an evil enchanted book, and well, things take a turn.

MacKenzie Cadenhead's plot is fairly tight, managing to split time between Zoe in the book and the rest of Doom Academy pretty evenly. The jokes land well (Mister Doombot might be my second favourite Doombot now after the Runaways Doombot), and the conclusion works with the rules established, given that we get a new type of magic introduced here too.

On art we have Pasqual Ferry for the Doom Academy bits, who's no stranger to this kind of setting after drawing 18 issues or so of Doctor Strange recently, and newcomer (?) Joao Lemos who pencils the book-stuff with a style that fits the fantasy storytelling aspect really well too, although the colour palette feels a bit too murky brown at times.

It's a shame we can't get more substantial Strange Academy these days, but I'll take what I can get.

Look, I’m at the point where I’m struggling to engage with anything HP-related these days and I’m all for finding similar content that isn’t made by someone with the horrible, regressive politics of Rowling. That being said, simply being not that isn’t enough for content to scratch that itch for me either. I dipped into Strange Academy a while back and found it promising but didn’t really connect to any of the characters and found Son of Dormamu a bit strange as a concept. Reading this maybe after One World Under Doom set up expectations that this would have some meaningful connection to the crossover event beyond being set in Latveria at a school “run” by Doom. But that’s about it. It has shades of other fantasy stories and pretty generic school-centered narrative beats but otherwise it doesn’t feel super memorable.

This is a long-winded way to say I was pretty neutral on this series. But there we are!

the continuing tales of the magic using teens from the cancelled 'Strange Academy' series...

SO GOOD!

=====
I love that we get to see these kids keep getting bounced around the MU. They've lost their original headmaster, lost their school in New Orleans, and now have to deal with Doom being the Sorcerer Supreme.

Plus?
You get to ship a few of the characters into another, 'will they/ won't they?' bit.

Sorry not sorry, the strange academy kids have no personality and there was no significant change to a Doom academy that mattered. The main story of being trapped in books had nothing to do with anything. Would NOT give to a YA reader.

Too short! I need more of this crew. What’s next? Feel like Asgard Academy could definitely work! Either way, school for magic youngsters is such a no-brainer that it could and should run as long as a certain school for gifted youngsters. 4.2/5
