Chantelle and Drew are meant for one another. Everyone knows that they are together. They are the perfect couple. The ideal couple. The power couple. And someone is not happy about it. They will do everything to break them apart. Will Chantelle and Drew’s relationship continue? Or will this fairy tale end?
Thank you to KDP Publishing and the author Destarny for an e-ARC of this book for my honest review.
I was kinda confused by the synopsis and at the beginning of the book about the matter of the relationship between Chantelle and Drew who are the bestest of friends even if everyone believes that they are or should be together. the characters are in their last year of high school, and it really shows. the drama and conflict are very petty, almost childish kinda like “I want that same new shiny toy.” there was almost no character growth and the book spanned the entire school year. I don’t know, I think maybe I just don’t understand what the point of the book was. like there are books that you read for the plot or for the romance or for the conflict, but this book wasn’t any of that. not to spoil anything, but plot twist at the end certainly threw me for a loop.
book release: September 30, 2025 (but was first published in Australia)
First of all, thank you so much to Destarny for the e-arc of this book. You are the kindest! To start off, I read this book a couple months ago as beta reader. Things might have changed up this moment. Possible changes might have been done. Sorry in advance♡
🌟 Review 🌟 From the cover to blurb, had me excited to dive in! The story definitely kept my attention, though I did feel that chapters 3–6 slowed down a bit compared to the rest. The characters were believable, and I fell for every plot twist( dont judge me) Judy shocked me, and Lauren’s reveal really caught me off guard! That said, Mason felt a bit unnecessary. With all the set-up, I expected him to stir more jealousy or tension between Drew and Chantelle, but that never really happened. Sad but true.. Dialogue mostly felt natural, but at times it leaned too heavily on constant flirting and “asking out” moments. It got a little repetitive and, since it was written from her perspective, it sometimes came across as “pick me” vibes; too many boys drooling, too much attention on the leads, which didn’t feel entirely realistic. The twist with Lauren was fantastic♡ I didn’t see it coming at all! I was half-expecting Judy and Mason to cook up something evil, but the direction you took was even more surprising. On the flip side, a few things pulled me out of the story. Mentions of real-life brands, concerts, or apps (like Taylor Swift, Instagram, TikTok) felt distracting. Also, some familiar tropes showed up again — the “princess and prince” vibes, the “power couple” label (even though they didn’t really do much to earn it), and the long build-up with no real confession payoff at the end. After so much betrayal and tension, it was frustrating not to get a happy or at least satisfying resolution. Still, the bones of the story are strong. I enjoyed the suspense, the documenting-and-uploading-online idea, and the way Chantelle seemed to have a bad feeling about what was coming. There’s so much potential here; I just wish the ending had given more closure. ✨ Overall: I wouldn’t say this story wasn’t for me — I actually enjoyed it quite a bit — but I do think there’s room to make it tighter, more realistic, and more rewarding for us readers at the finish line.✨ I truly believe the dear author, Destarny, has so much potential but there’s certainly room for improvement to make the story even stronger. Thank you for reading♡
