Wow. Just beautiful. I have read a lot of books in this category, but for me this book sits apart. I had planned to read it quickly, but it’s just not that kind of book. At so many points I had to stop and ponder—whether it be giving praise at some revelation about God; confession at the conviction felt; or trying to figure out how to rework ministry to be more aligned with what I read.
The reflections are deep and poetic, with Scriptural insights that can only come from long seasons of meditation.
The content is clearly the outflow of a life of reflection, contemplation, and practice.
The exercises and discussion questions beautifully guide the reader into ingesting the content and practicing experiencing deeper connection with God.
At one point, in the chapter on “Waiting”, I felt so moved by it that I read three or four pages to the friends I was sitting with. We all sat with eyes glistening with tears at the beauty of the presentation of God and invitation to bind ourselves to Him.
Reading About the Voice of God felt akin to reading someone like Thomas Merton. Deep. Penetrating. Prayerful. Incarnated. Beautiful.
