Empress regent Hiroko and Britannia stand on the brink of civil war. Meanwhile, a thousand light years away, President Julie Adams and the Federation face a technologically superior foe in the Sol Sector.
Both empires need a hero.
And when workers discover a damaged escape pod pinned in the wreckage of a shot-to-pieces dreadnought, it turns out the Deities weren’t done with its sole living occupant. A man from the past—a hero—waits to return.
But the perils are grave. Can one man solve these issues?
Yes, he survived, thanks to good friends, much luck and divine intervention (ok, was the author but still). Interesting to see how his return will impact the whole power dynamics in the Empire as well as the war against the new enemy.
Good characters, as usual. Solid empathy as well and very interesting points raised in many respects.
Ah and if you haven't figured out who "he" is... get back to the Prince awakens, read the whole series and you ought to get a clue. ;-)
Hughes has continued the heart stopping adventure through politics, relationships, and conflict in his masterful way. While the title gave away part of the story especially, if you are a rabid reader of Hughes earlier works, it wasn’t a spoiler. Honestly the Sci-fi is more of a plot setting than relevant to moving the story. The real story was in the relationships between the characters instead of because of characters. I had several moments of tearing up with my cheeks getting wet at least once. Definitely earned a five star review.
Wow! Can’t wait for the next book. The story continues and get better with each installment. I’ve read this series from the first book. And none of them have been a disappointment. Highly recommend the series to anyone.
Book was fun and pretty well written. The entire series has been a good romp. I felt like the last few books meandered a bit. The return of the primary character really sharpened the focus.
BRAVO ZULU, shipmate! This series keeps getting better. I look forward to more. Steam for the sound of guns and your course will be true. CDR K. (Ret.)
As I thought Henry just won't die, the universe has more work for him. But first he has to sort out the problems at home. Looking forward to reading more.
