The first Nightmares! had me intrigued and hooked from page one. Jason Segel and Kristen Miller mix real world problems with spooky situations and I’m here for it. Unfortunately for me – this one is just not as good as the first. It felt like the entire book was just a maze of confusing questions, riddles, and repeating situations. I really hope they decide to start on a new project, but we’ll see!

La vida de Charlie Laird ha cambiado drásticamente desde que descubrió que en su nueva casa hay un portal que conecta Mundo despierto con Mundo tenebroso, un lugar donde las más terribles pesadillas habitan. Después de una gran aventura en el mundo de las pesadillas, Charlie junto con su hermano menor se ha convertido en los guardianes de
ese portal y deben de impedir que cualquier pesadilla pase por él.
Pero esta vez el peligro no viene precisamente del portal sino del pueblo vecino donde una extraña tienda ha abierto y está vendiendo un tónico que dice ayuda a evitar las pesadillas pero que en realidad evita por completo que la gente sueñe. Charlie y sus amigos pronto notaran que quienes toman este tónico se vuelven en caminante no muy distintos a los zombis y si quieren que Mundo tenebroso y el país de los suelos estén a salvo, tendrán que averiguar cómo despertar a los caminantes y descubrir quién está detrás del tónico.
¿Creías que las pesadillas habían terminado? Apaga las luces y vigila quién entra en tus sueños.
Sé que muchos de ustedes ya están descartando este libro por tratarse de un libro infantil pero permítanme decirles que este libro es de esos que no importa que esté dirigido a un público infantil, va a terminar conquistándolos sin importar la edad que tengan. Pues la historia que Segel y Miller ha creado es de verdad cautivante.
La historia obviamente tiene una narración sencilla, pensada especialmente para los lectores más jóvenes pero a pesar de esto el libro nunca se vuelve simplón ni nada de eso sino que es una historia muy bien pensada con personajes increíbles que conquistaran a más de uno.
Por ejemplo tenemos a Charlie, quien en este libro tiene una notable evolución a comparación del primero donde era más bien un niño un tanto necio que prefería huir de sus problemas. Ahora Charlie es un chico decidido que si bien aún tiene miedo sabe que para superarlos tiene que enfrentarse a ellos.
También en esta secuela destaca Jack, el hermano pequeño de Charlie que en el primer libro no tuvo un papel digamos muy importante, pero ahora Jack es uno de los personajes principales que demostrará que la edad no importa y que los héroes no sólo son aquellos con superadores y capaz.

Tolle Botschaft und spannde Geschichte dazu
In dem Buch Die Stadt der Schlafwandler (Nightmares 2) von Jason Segel, geht es um Charlie und Jack, sowie um seine Familie und Freunde. In Orville Falls macht einer neuer Laden auf, der ein Elixier verkauft, das gegen sehr viel Helfen soll, aber insbesondere Albträume. Irgendwie hat fast jeder in Orville Falls Albträume, also kaufen sich die Leute dieses Elixier und Trinken es, aber es macht süchtig, also kaufen sie immer mehr davon und Trinken es. Leider gibt es aber eine Nachwirkung von dem Elixier und zwar, das es dich zu einem Schlafwandler macht. Können Charlie und seine Freunde, den Leuten helfen und sie wieder Gesund machen, oder bleiben die Leute jetzt für immer Schalfwandler ? Und wer steckt dahinter ?
Meine Meinung:
Das Cover der Geschichte ist ja mal wirklich schön gruselig mit seinem neongrün und den gruseligen Figuren und passt perfekt zum ersten Band der Trilogie. Es hat mich natürlich sofort wieder angesprochen und ich wollte es im Oktober lesen und jetzt habe ich es beendet und bin genauso begeistert, wie vom ersten Band. Der Schreibstil ist wieder schön flüssig und die Kapitel sind spannend geschrieben. Auch diesmal müssen Charlie und seine Freunde, sowie auch jetzt sein kleiner Bruder Jack die Menschen retten. Aber nicht nur bei sich in Cypress Creek sondern auch in Orville Falls. Schaffen Sie das gemeinsam oder nicht ? Natürlich lernt man auch in diesem Buch etwas über Mut und Angst, sowie Albträume.
Fazit:
Ein toller zweiter Band mit einer genauso tollen Story, die Lust auf Band 3 macht, dem Finale der Trilogie.

Meine Meinung
Die Autoren erzählen die Geschichte von Charlie mit genauso viel Schwung und Spannung weiter wie im ersten Band. Altersgerecht aber sehr flüssig und anschaulich, dass man es wirklich in jedem Alter lesen kann. Manches ist auch hier wieder etwas unlogisch, was Kindern wahrscheinlich gar nicht auffällt - ich finde es immer ein bisschen schade, dass bei Kinderbüchern darauf nicht so viel Wert gelegt wird.
Es passiert auf jeden Fall wieder richtig viel, wobei dieses Mal die Handlung auf den Nachbarort Orville Falls gelegt wird. Dieses Mal steht nicht die Angst vor Albträumen im Vordergrund, sondern die Existenz der Träume an sich! Jeder Mensch träumt jede Nacht, auch wenn er sich nicht daran erinnert. Die Auswirkungen sind noch nicht erforscht, aber ich denke, wie auch viele andere, dass man mit seinen Träumen viel verarbeitet, was einen tagsüber beschäftigt. Nicht umsonst gibt es das Sprichtwort: Schlaf mal eine Nacht drüber, morgen sieht alles wieder ganz anders aus!
Die Entwicklung zwischen Charlie und seiner Stiefmutter gefällt mir sehr gut, allerdings habe ich Charlotte kaum wieder erkannt, da sie völlig anders gehandelt und sich eingebracht hat. Das passte zwar zur Handlung, war aber in Bezug auf den ersten Teil nicht ganz nachvollziehbar.
Dass der Vater von Charlie noch nichts von allem mitbekommen hat, lässt ihn für mich ein bisschen doof dastehen *lach*, aber ich nehme mal an, dass er im dritten Band dann endlich hinter das Geheimnis kommt ;)
Die verquere Beziehung zwischen Charlie und seinem kleinen Bruder Jack steht dieses Mal noch mehr im Mittelpunkt, denn Charlie fühlt sich ihm gegenüber immer in den Hintergrund gedrängt. Jack ist überall beliebt, charmant und regelrecht furchtlos, egal, um was es sich handelt. Darum kann Charlie es gar nicht leiden, wenn Jack das Kommando übernimmt. Aber auch hier gibt es eine schöne Botschaft, denn Unerschrockenheit hat nicht immer etwas mit Mut zu tun!
Toll ist, dass immer etwas passiert und die Geschichte durch abwechslungsreiche Ideen geprägt ist. Eine davon hat mich ein bisschen an "Die unendliche Geschichte" von Michael Ende erinnert aber insgesamt gibt es viele neue Eindrücke und bis zum Schluss weiß man nicht genau, was dahintersteckt. Es wird auch nicht alles aufgelöst und ich hoffe sehr, dass im dritten Band auch das Rätsel um die Anstifter geklärt wird.
Die Wirkung von "Hoffnung" hat hier auch sehr schön ihren Platz gefunden, ein ganz wichtiger Punkt im Leben, finde ich, denn "der Glaube versetzt Berge" ist für mich nicht religiös begründet, sondern immer dann anwendbar, wenn ich mir unsicher bin oder in einer ausweglosen Situation feststecke. Jeder positive Gedanke hilft!
Zum Schluss wurde noch ein Thema angeschnitten, dass mir persönlich sehr am Herzen liegt: Kein Mensch ist von Grund auf böse! Hinter jedem steht eine Vergangenheit und Erfahrungen, die ihn geprägt haben und zu dem gemacht, der er jetzt ist. Deshalb lohnt es sich immer, auch nach dem Warum? zu fragen, denn oft resultieren solche schwachen Charakterzüge aus Angst, Leid und Hilflosigkeit.
Fazit
Eine sehr unterhaltsame Geschichte für Kinder, die nicht wirklich zum gruseln, aber zum mitfiebern ist und die sehr wichtige Themen anspricht, über die ruhig auch die Erwachsenen nochmal nachdenken können!

And once again, these fantastic settings are filled with a fun array of characters, from the feisty to the wacky, scary, funny, brave, and lovable. Was für eine freudige Überraschung, wenn Band 2 mindestens genau so gut wie der erste ist. Es gibt eine neue Idee, keine Wiederholung mit leichten Abwandlungen. Grusel und viel Abenteuer wurden in diese Geschichte gepackt. Was für ein Lesespaß.

There's no denying I was a huge fan of this entire trilogy. It may not be the greatest or best written book in the world, but I found it thoroughly enjoyable and fun to read. It was exactly what I needed when I read it, and that's what matters.
This book picks up not too long after the first one, with Charlie and his friends almost immediately sniffing out a new problem in a nearby town that may just infiltrate their own and decide to do some investigating. They quickly realize that the people in Orville Falls are turning into sleepwalking zombies and someone is selling them some sort of tonic that claims to chase their nightmares away. They quickly realize that the people behind this mysterious tonic aren't just trying to rule the Waking world, but are trying to rule the Netherworld as well, taking over both dream and reality!
In this book, Charlie's little brother, Jack, is the star of the show, as he forms an integral part of the story and holds the key to solving the entire mystery. This creates more conflict and tension between the siblings as Charlie wants to protect his brother while simultaneously wants him to stay out of his limelight. I believe that Segel and Miller interpreted and illustrated that relationship brilliantly, as it could be quite tricky to accomplish, but I thought it was done really well.
Charlie is a very lucky boy to have such a strong support system in his stepmom, brother and friends, but also in the characters from the Dream Realm, who all come to his rescue and assistance when he requires it.
Unlike the first book, this one ends with a clear gateway into what direction the third book will be heading towards. Definitely worth a read.

This time no nightmares (at least not like the previous book), but something else that is destroying things. Namely a potion, something that makes people think it is a potion for sleeping as people have had some problem sleeping, but actually it turns people in brain-dead beings. Sleepwalkers. And they were quite creepy. These people are not dreaming, or having nightmares. No, they are just in some weird state. And you can imagine what happens when people don't have dreams or nightmares... yep, the worlds there are slowly disappearing, vanishing. And it is spreading fast!
So of course Charlie has to help out and solve what is going on. But he is, like the previous book, not alone in this. He got his friends. Alphie, Paige, and at times we also see Rocco. Then there is the annoying brother Jack who is taking quite a role in this one. They help out with everything they can. From simple research to preventing people to take the potion to well, all sorts of things. And Charlotte is also helping with things, I love how she is so involved in everything and how fabulous she is.
Though it did mean that they had to keep the dad away from a lot of things, and even had to stop him for wanting to try the tonic (which didn't make sense, his wife is an amazing herbalist/can make any potion, and he wants the rival's stuff?).
I loved that we also saw some characters from the Nightmare world, Medusa seems to be doing fine, though she is very busy. We see Dabney, Meduso, and some other characters and meet some newer characters as well!
Next to the sleepwalker + prophecy + mysterious girls we also have money problems for Charlie's family. Charlotte's store isn't doing too well, and the house is also in trouble due to that. Charlotte tries everything, including try to pitch her story to publishers, but so far no luck!
I am quite happy that they added this to the story, it never felt out of place, instead I found that it fitted quite well. Especially later when we find out certain things.
How everything was solved? I did like it, it was quite a nice solution, and I am happy that people are so sweet towards Charlotte.
We also see more of Ollie, and boy oh boy, that boy is indeed gifted... for getting in trouble. He seems so smart (and apparently gets great grades) but then does stupid things. For instance trying to see how parachutes work by jumping of his house, or eating bath stuff.
But unlike the previous book, I hated Jack, oh so much. I get that he is a little guy, but really, he was just so annoying and I kept hoping that he would get eaten during one of his many trips to the Netherworld. He was just an irresponsible little poop. I hated how he made Charlie feel. I hated how he just did his own thing without thinking about others. I hated how he took the main role, that is not his role, he should just stay away far far away. I just don't get that everyone just lets him do everything. Oh, Jack did x and y, oh well, he is cute just let him do it and get away with it. *sighs and rolls her eyes*Great parenting there.
And then he was oh so hurt because his brother didn't like him. Gee, I wonder why Charlie isn't happy with Jack. I can totally understand his feelings. I don't have a little brother, but I had friends who were good at things, and I was delighted when I had something to call my own. I know I would also feel poopy if one of them was superawesome at my kind of thing. :(
Plus the whole forgive and love and rainbow thing at the end with Jack and Charlie? It made me roll my eyes a lot. Was that really needed? Was any of that whole OMG look at how amazing Jack is and you should like him stuff was also urrrrghhhh.
I was also a bit sad that, unlike the first book, there was no real conclusion to the problem presented in this one. Some things are solved, and things are getting better, but we still have the other, very big problem. Something I still have questions about. Given the ending I am guessing the next book will all about those 2.
Like the previous book this book is full with illustrations and I just adore them, though I do think some of the characters should sleep for once, given the bags under their eyes. :P

Hopefully book 3 will be delivered soon, I got it ordered, but Amazon had some problems with sending stuff, I really want to see how various things end, plus I am curious about the twins and what happened to them.

Na první díl to bohužel nemá, ale i tak je to fajn knížka. Charlie už je teď plně seznámen s podsvětem, takže ani noční můry ho už teď nemohou rozházet. Jenže teď on i jeho parta čelí jinému problému. Ve vedlejší městečku se to totiž hemží "mátonohy", tedy lidmi kteří vypadají jako náměsíční zombíci. Teď tedy musejí příjít na způsob jak tomuto městečku pomoci a zároveň zabránit tomu aby se to samé stalo v Cypřišovém Potoce.

These are really fun. I definitely don’t think I’d be reading them at all if the audiobooks weren’t narrated by Jason Segel (I have a major weakness for celebrity audiobooks,) but I’m glad I gave them a shot.
If you’re a fan of Jason Segel, I think you’ll like the audiobooks too. I really like when I can tell that the person narrating the audiobook is having a ball; this is why Katherine Kellgren’s so fabulous. Segel’s clearly enjoying himself immensely, getting to do all sorts of silly voices.
There’s a lot of silliness in the Nightmares! series that doesn’t really work on me as a grown up (boring old person that I am), but I’m sure they’d be lots of fun for the kids out there who love horror and creepy stuff.

This was an interesting sequel, and I liked this more than the previous book. This one ends with a cliffhanger, though. The story involves a tonic, zombielike sleepwalkers, feelings, family, and dreams. There is also some humor, and the mystery was interesting. I didn't expect what happened.

Eigentlich sollte jetzt alles wieder seine Ordnung haben. Die Nachtmahre sind in der Anderwelt oder der Traumwelt, weit entfernt von der wachen Welt, das Portal in der lila Villa ist geschlossen. Alles ist gut.
Und doch trifft Charlie mitten auf der Straße von Cypress Creek auf einen waschechten Zombie, sieht genauer hin – und wagt sich durch das Portal, um herauszufinden, was es mit diesem schrägen Typen auf sich hat.
Doch er bleibt nicht allein. Immer mehr Menschen benehmen sich wie Schlafwandler und schnell ist klar, dass es etwas mit der Traumwelt zu tun haben muss.
Meinung:
Ich mochte den Auftakt der Nightmares!-Reihe wirklich sehr gern und musste trotz des vorerst abgeschlossenen Endes unbedingt weiterlesen. Und das Warten auf die Fortsetzung hat sich definitiv gelohnt.
Schon mit dem Prolog schaffte es das Autorenduo, bei mir für ein positives Schaudern zu sorgen. Erneut spielen die beiden mit den Ängsten der Menschen, in diesem Fall mit der Angst vor Albträumen, die in diesem zweiten Band eine zentrale Rolle einnimmt.
Nach diesem Prolog wurde ich fürs erste wieder ruhig mit der Geschichte vertraut gemacht. Kleine Häppchen aus gezielt gesetzten Rückblicken vereinfachten mir den Einstieg, ehe ich mit dem ‚Problem‘ konfrontiert wurde: ein vor sich hin schlurfender Mann, grunzend, nicht ansprechbar. Nach erster Analyse musste es sich um einen Zombie handeln. Doch was tat er in der wachen Welt?
Und das Problem, das auf die Menschheit zurast, ist nicht das einzige, das Protagonist Charlie bewältigen muss. Immer mehr fühlt er sich im Schatten seines kleinen Bruders Jack, der anscheinend alles besser kann und allem furchtlos entgegentritt. Die Entwicklung zwischen den Geschwistern hat mir sehr sehr gut gefallen und sie wirkt wunderbar authentisch. Hier waren auch die weisen Worte von Stiefmama Charlotte gut gewählt und gelungen.
Doch zu dem Geschwister-Problem steht die neu zusammengewürfelte Familie in der lila Villa auch noch vor einem weiteren Schicksalsschlag: Finanzielle Probleme.
All diese so normalen Probleme wurden von Jason Segel und Kristen Miller wunderbar in die Traum-/Albtraumgeschichte eingeflochten, so dass niemals das eine oder das andere dominierte. Nebenbei wurden sogar noch andere Dinge aufgegriffen, die die Zielgruppe beschäftigen könnte – und alles natürlich zur Zufriedenheit bewältigt, wie es sich für Ängste so gehört.
Der Schreibstil ist dabei altersgerecht kurzweilig, durchzogen von vielen Dialogen und teils auch kindischem Verhalten (was vermutlich jeder kennt, der kleine peinliche Geschwister hat), was immer einen leichten Humor mitschwingen lässt, um die düstere Bedrohung nicht ganz so gruselig wirken zu lassen.
Durch die nie enden wollende Spannung wurde ich förmlich durch die Seiten getrieben, stand immer wieder vor neuen Hindernissen, die es zu überwinden galt und ein Misslingen jagte das nächste, während die Zeit davonlief. Doch zum Glück ist es ein sehr junges Jugendbuch und alles endet zufriedenstellend – mit einem klitzekleinen Ausblick auf den nächsten Teil, der im August 2016 erscheinen wird.
Urteil:
„Nightmares! Die Stadt der Schlafwandler“ ist eine absolut gelungene Fortsetzung, die den Weltenentwurf aus Band 1 gekonnt weiterspinnt, unsagbar spannend ist und es dennoch schafft, alltägliche Probleme/Ängste des Zielpublikums einzuflechten. Für diese Kombination kann ich nur volle 5 Bücher vergeben.
Alle, die schon Gefallen an Band 1 gefunden haben, werden die Fortsetzung lieben. Allen, denen Band 1 etwas zu kindisch war kann ich nur sagen, dass dieser Band etwas ‚erwachsener‘/älter ist und sie durchaus noch einen Versuch wagen können.

Pensé que ya estaba en un punto de mi vida en el que odiaría con todo mi ser cualquier libro que tuviera zombis... pero luego llegó "La poción del sonámbulo" para demostrarme que siempre hay esperanza.
Regresamos a Cypress Creek, a la increíble mansión morada que guarda una conexión especial con el mundo de las pesadillas y a las aventuras de Charlie Laird. Desde el último libro, Charlie no sólo ha crecido, su relación con Charlotte (su madrastra) y con sus sueños ha cambiado por completo. Sin embargo, la paz lograda en Cypress Creek y en Mundo Tenebroso no va a durar mucho, pues el pueblo vecino, Orville Falls, enfrenta una epidemia de zombis.
Estos zombis son más bien una especie de sonámbulos que se encuentran en un estado deplorable debido a que han ingerido una extraña pócima que promete librarlos de sus pesadillas y ponerlos a domir. Pero dormir sin soñar, ¿te permite realmente descansar? Peor aún, si no enfrentas a tus pesadillas al dormir, ¿cómo vas a superar tus miedos?
Charlie y sus amigos deberán de encontrar el origen de esta misteriosa pócima y de su creador para detener los terribles efectos que ésta ocasiona en el mundo de los sueños, así como en el de las pesadillas, y para poder volver a todos los "zombis" a su estado original.
Este libro fue un verdadero agasajo, aunque el primero lo disfruté bastante, éste me cautivó por completo. Me encanta ver crecer al personaje de Charlie y me gusta más aún que no sea un niño perfecto, sino uno con defectos, miedos y sentimientos con los cuales tiene que aprender a vivir o bien a superar.
La trama es más compleja que la de la historia anterior, hay muchos misterios y suspenso. Hubieron momentos en los que no podía soltar el libro porque necesitaba saber qué iba a pasar y por lo mismo, se me fue como agua. Además, aunque Mundo Tenebroso sigue siendo un eje central de la historia, me encantó como los autores ingeniaron la manera de expandir el universo para no caer en temas que se sintieran repetitivos con el primer libro.
Lo que más me gusta de esta saga escrita por Jason Segel y Kristen Miller es que te enseña que tener miedo está bien, que el miedo puede combatirse y superarse, o simplemente puedes usarlo en tu beneficio.
Y ya necesito la tercera parte porque ese final me dejó queriendo mucho más D:

The second book was able to keep my kids (who'd much rather play on their phones than read an actual book) and myself engaged and entertained for the 350+ pages on the further adventures of Jack, Charlie and the rest of the squad.

This is the second book in the Nightmares! series by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller.
I accidently started listening to this book first and realized quickly that I'd made an error. The second story begins immediately after the first ends and the series really needs to be read in order to make any sense.
The story is not so much scary as it is a declaration that only hope can overcome despair. In addition, I suppose it's also a critique of looking to miracle medicines to fix our medical issues.
I appreciate the author's ability to narrate the story as well as write it. Not all authors have such talent, especially in the way that he brings the myriad characters to life. His enthusiasm and dramatic performance of the story is impressive and I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook.
Now I can move on to book three, The Lost Lullaby.

I accidently started listening to this book first and realized quickly that I'd made an error. The second story begins immediately after the first ends and the series really needs to be read in order to make any sense.
The story is not so much scary as it is a declaration that only hope can overcome despair. In addition, I suppose it's also a critique of looking to miracle medicines to fix our medical issues.
I appreciate the author's ability to narrate the story as well as write it. Not all authors have such talent, especially in the way that he brings the myriad characters to life. His enthusiasm and dramatic performance of the story is impressive and I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook.
Now I can move on to book three, The Lost Lullaby.

Ein Elixier lässt die Menschen in Cypress Creek und Orville Falls zu Wandlern werden. Die Menschen träumen nicht mehr; in der Anderwelt und in der Traumwelt werden die Orte Orville Falls und auch fast Cypress Creek ausgelöscht. Charlie, seine Freunde und sein Bruder sowie seine Stiefmutter tun alles, um die Zerstörung aufzuhalten und den Menschen zu helfen, sich ihren Ängsten und Alpträumen zu stellen.

This is a great book. It's for kids and a bit about the world of nightmares, but it's enough to improve my weak German.

"La poción del sonámbulo" es la segunda parte en la trilogía de ¡Pesadillas! de Jason Segel y Kirsten Miller. Un middle grade tan fantástico como divertido. Si no han leído la primera parte, les aconsejaría no leer la reseña, para así evitarse cualquier tipo de spoilers.
Como aprendimos en el primer libro, Charlie y su hermano pequeño Jack, son los nuevos guardianes del portal a Mundo Tenebroso (ahí donde viven las pesadillas) y al País de los Sueños. Éste portal sólo tiene una entrada, y está en la torre de la mansión púrpura, que ahora es el hogar de Charlie y su familia. Ahora la relación de Charlie con su madrastra Charlotte es muy diferente, ahora comparten un enorme secreto que los ha unido más de lo que Charlie se hubiera imaginado nunca.
Cypress Creek, el pueblo donde viven, ya no corre peligro de las pesadillas que se querían apoderar de él desde que cerraron muy bien el portal. Pero la tranquilidad para Charlie y sus amigos no dura mucho, ya que un nuevo peligro se acerca a Cypress Creek.
Durante el partido de fútbol de uno de los amigos de Charlie, se encuentran con un tipo que parece mitad dormido y mitad despierto, con un corte desagradable en la cabeza y no parece estar alerta de nada. Algo extraño está pasando en el pueblo vecino de Cypress Creek ya que las personas han estado demostrando un comportamiento muy extraño, parecen... zombies.
Si no leyeron mi reseña sobre Pesadillas, les comento que fue un libro que me gustó muchísimo, tuvo un mensaje muy bonito sobre vencer el miedo, y además fue una lectura divertida y hasta muy conmovedora. Y a pesar de ser una persona adulta, y ésta historia ser un middle grade, lo disfruté muchísimo. Es realmente cautivante.
Primero les cuento sobre la edición, es de pasta blanda y con la portada original de Estados Unidos, con las ilustraciones de Karl Kwasny entre sus páginas, y que complementan perfectamente a la lectura. Cada inicio de capítulo está decorado. Tiene una edición muy bien cuidada, me encanta.
Ahora bien sobre la lectura, como buen middle grade es bastante sencillo, para que las mentes jóvenes lo entiendan a la perfección, pero en ningún momento cae en lo simple. Realmente es una historia muy bien pensada, con un desarrollo a buen ritmo, ni se acelera de más, ni cae en lo lento, todo lo que sucede tiene una razón de ser, y en ningún punto aburre. Y tiene muchos muchos cabos que atar antes de llegar al final.
Viejos personajes regresan en éste segundo libro, pero igual conoceremos a algunos nuevos, y otros tendrán más peso en la historia, como es el caso de Jack, el hermano menor de Charlie, en ésta continuación tendremos la oportunidad de conocerlo un poco más y cómo es su relación con su hermano. Además que es un personaje que terminarás amando (al menos, yo lo hice ♥).
También revivirán viejas experiencias sin caer en lo repetitivo. Otra cosa, las dos cosas que más me gustaron de leer éste libro, es que los personajes tuvieron un desarrollo visible y no se quedaron estancados en lo mismo que el primer libro. Se podía realmente notar cambios en ellos. Lo segundo es el humor, desde el primer libro disfruté muchísimo de los chistes incluidos en la historia, y en éste libro no faltaron, más de una vez me encontré sonriendo o de plano riendo a carcajadas por alguno de los chistes, que aunque son algo simples, también eran efectivos.
En fin, es un libro que genuinamente disfruté mucho, y que no duraría ni un instante en recomendar. Es un middle grade y está escrito para niños, pero siento lo disfrutarían tanto los chicos como los grandes. Ya se acerca Navidad, sería un regalo perfecto para un sobrino, un hermanito o un primo, se los van a agradecer. Y siento plenamente que ésta trilogía es perfecta para formar nuevos lectores que aún no saben lo divertido que es leer.

I loved this book! Usually when it comes to children's books/middle grade books, I find myself unimpressed by the writing style (too juvenile) and the characters (too whinny) but I have to remind myself "hey, these books are written for a younger audience" so my expectations have to be lowered a bit. It wasn't until I discovered Nightmares! that I realized children's books can be entertaining, fun, and heartwarming all at the same time. Yes, there is a bit of cheese here and there but it is still sweet.
In this installment, Charlie and Charlotte's relationship have gotten stronger and they are able to talk to one another more and Charlie finds himself actually liking his step mother. When everything seems to be fine and dandy, Charlie realizes that something awfully strange is going on in the next town over, Orville Falls. The citizens are completely out of it-walking around like they are zombies and it all started because of this new store that had opened, one that rivals that of Charlotte's. As the shop begins to gain more popularity, Charlotte's herb store begins to lose its much needed income; yet, the store's state may the least of their worries as Charlie and Jack start to realize that the Netherworld is also in desperate need of their help...
I loved this one more than its predecessor because it got pretty creepy and dark, and I couldn't wait to come home to read this book every night. I really appreciate how the authors are able to tell a spooky story with a strong plot and fantastical creatures, but at the same time make it relatable for all audiences. Don't think that just because this is marketed for a younger audience, that it will have nothing to offer you if you are older because that is what I thought and I was wrong. I can't wait to pick up the next installment, I think I'll be reading each book during the Halloween month and I'm super excited about this tradition.

Der erste Band hat mir wahnsinnig gut gefallen, deshalb habe ich mich sehr auf diese Fortsetzung gefreut.
Nach einigen Seiten war ich auch schon wieder direkt in der Geschichte drin, auch wenn es nun doch schon eine ganze Weile her ist, dass ich den Vorgänger gelesen habe.
Der Schreibstil ist wirklich sehr kindergerecht und einfach gehalten, sodass da keine Probleme für die kleinen Leseratten entstehen sollten.
Außerdem gefällt es mir wahnsinnig gut, dass auch in diesem Band alles sehr aufwändig designt wurde. Teile des Buchcovers leuchten wieder im Dunkeln und der Buchschnitt ist diesmal neongrün eingefärbt. Zudem befinden sich auf den Seiten immer wieder kleine, gruselige Zeichnungen.
Des Weiteren ist die Schrift angenehm groß und das Papier fühlt sich hochwertig an, da es etwas dicker ist.
Die Geschichte selbst hat mir auch wieder sehr gut gefallen. Natürlich spielt Charlie wieder die Hauptrolle, aber auch seine Freunde und Bekannte aus Band 1 sind wieder mit dabei. Schön ist auch, dass sein kleiner Bruder Jack eine aktive, wichtige Rolle erhält. Die beiden geben ein sehr gutes Team ab, wenn sie miteinander arbeiten und ihre Differenzen beiseite schieben.
Charlie wirkt diesmal etwas erwachsener, so auch Jack und Charlies Freunde. Sie haben sich allesamt sehr entwickelt und sind durchaus reifer geworden.
Wie im ersten Buch werden wieder sehr wichtige Werte beigebracht. Beispielsweise, dass ein kleines Fünkchen Hoffnung ausreicht um Menschen zu helfen. Und auch, dass man immer nach dem "warum?" fragen sollte um die wahren Hintergründe zum erfahren wird angesprochen. Ein weiterer wichtiger Aspekt, der vorgekommen ist, ist, dass Angst nichts schlechtes ist. Sondern, dass derjenige, der seine Angst erkennt und diese nutzt um an sein Ziel zu gelangen, wahren Mut hat.
Insgesamt fand ich diese Fortsetzung wieder sehr spannend und aufregend, obwohl ich ihn dennoch ein kleines bisschen schwächer empfand als den Vorgänger. Aber ich kann ihn auf jeden Fall empfehlen!

Auch der zweite Teil der Nightmares Reihe hat mich vollends begeistert. Er steht seinem Vorgänger wirklich in nichts nach. Das Besondere ist einfach, dass es für jedermann geschrieben ist. Für groß und klein, jung und alt. Vor allem die Moral jedes Buches bzw. der gesamten Reihe und die Art, wie wichtige Dinge des Lebens, wie beispielsweise Mut oder Freundschaft, vermittelt werden, zaubern mir immer wieder ein Lächeln auf die Lippen.
Diesmal sind es die "Wandler", die in Orville Falls ihr Unwesen treiben und alles auf den Kopf stellen. Aber Charlie Laird und seine Freunde machen sich mutig auf den Weg um der Sache auf den Grund zu gehen. Dabei stellt sich einiges komplizierter heraus als es ist und auch weitere Dinge stellen sich ihnen in den Weg. Auf kindliche, aber immer verständliche Art und Weise wird vorgegangen und nach Hinweisen gesucht. Das hat mir richtig gut gefallen.
Besonders gut gefielen mir die vielen Facetten des Buches. Nightmares schafft es eine perfekte Balance zwischen Grusel, Spannung, Humor, Fanatasy und natürlich einer guten Handlung, die niemals schleift, zu schaffen. Ein wahrer Page-Turner. Ich hatte das Buch trotz der fast 400 Seiten binnen 2-3 Tagen ausgelesen.
Ebenfalls entwickeln sich die Charaktere weiter. Charlie hat aus seinen Handlungen aus dem ersten Teil viel gelernt und weiß seine Stärken richtig einzusetzen und zu nutzen. Und nun kommt auch sein Bruder mehr zu Wort und kleine Eifersuchtsszenen deuten sich an, die aber geschickt gelöst werden. Ein ganz tolles (Kinder)Buch!

I love these books! The Sleepwalker Tonic is the follow up to Nightmares, the first book in the series. Charlie and his friends spend most of this story in the waking world trying to figure out why the inhabitants of a neighboring town are behaving like zombies. They soon discover that the dream and nightmare worlds are at risk of being destroyed as well. Charlie, his friends and family must work together to find out who is behind it all and how to stop them.
Not everything was resolved in this book, so I have a fairly good idea what the next one will be about. We got to see some of the characters from the dream and nightmare worlds in this one, and I hope we get more in the third book. Ugh, I don't want to wait a year!

Deftly avoids the "sophomore slump" by starting right in to a new, strange mystery.
More time is spent exploring the waking world in this one, and having Charlie and his little brother Jack work with their stepmother and their friends. It's a very fun dynamic, which provides good fodder for snappy dialogue and plenty of action. This one also includes some more nuanced subplots-- the family is in financial trouble, Charlie is jealous of Jack, and their dad is still oblivious to what's going on. There's also hints at what's coming in book three, which I'm very excited for!
I really hope these books are doing well. Are they? They should be. These books are everything a middle grade reader could want: exciting, funny. interesting, with cool covers and fun interior art. More people need to read these.
