Tim and Lena just started making plans on how best to enjoy their retirement when a mysterious man arrives and everything changed.
Timra and Angelena Caldwell had lived under those names for fifty years. They considered themselves Americans more so than whatever they had been previously. No one from their past had contacted them for more than thirty years. They had been forgotten. They felt safe. That made them happy.
When the man slipped into their house with news and a mission, Neither Tim nor Lena wanted any part in what was to come but with advanced warning about the sinister and far-reaching plot, they began to prepare for the worst.
Now, with the deadly attack days away and likely to change the entire country, Tim and Lena must decide where their allegiances lie, but is it too late? With people from their past hunting them and time running out on not only them, but the entire population, Tim and Lena must stay alive to make things right.
JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE OLD DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN'T BE A BADASS AND TAKE OUT THE TRASH!

The Old Couple: Never Underestimate Old People by Ray Wenck is one badass story about a very badass couple that most of their neighbors think that their not far away from death's door. It's well-written, action-packed, and full of just what it takes to be one of those great books for those who are into action-adventure thrillers with just enough humor thrown in at the right time to get you rolling around on the floor laughing.
Two young adults, not much more the kids, are thrust together in a foreign country and told to be and act as a real American married couple living as such. Fifty years later and three kids they are called upon to be reactivated as assassins to take out the governmental leadership in their local state to ensure total chaos with no means for the local government to reorganize and aid in reestablishing relief to rebuild after the coming attack from terrorists.
This book has it all and you will not go wrong reading it. I really enjoyed this book and wish there were additional books to add to what would be a really great series. I hope you too will find yourself enjoying this book as much as I have.
Quotes:
"People tend to over look older people as incapable. I'll take someone with experience and knowledge any day when it comes to a critical situation."
"Before you give up on the elder states people in your lives, find out what they can still contribute and learn from them."
I found two new heroes, the old couple! When trouble comes, they are ready. Facing their unfriendly neighbors, power outages, bandits and Russian agents, they are ready.
Nice to see age, wisdom, & experience shown such value in an apocalyptic novel! Interesting premise, a bit different from other EMP novels, made it an intriguing read.
This was very good for a prepper type book. Some of it was a little far out. The older couple being from a different background but living in this country for a very long time somehow manage in less than a week fortify their home, stock up months worth of goods and install solar panels as well as build a concrete wall! He’s 65 and apparently a Superman! My big beef is that there’s always enemies that have a grudge they never give up on and are willing to follow the character to the ends of the earth to get them. If there’s an apocalypse I’m pretty sure I’m looking for food, water and shelter not chasing enemies. In this case at least there is a twist though after 40 years of no contact still seems odd. Still a good read and will look for more books from the author.
None of the characters are likable the old couple only stick is that they are old. They only care about one of their kids. It was so boring and lackluster which is crazy because there is so much happening but the crap world building and characters development is none existent but you can sure but that whatever problem the couple have they are fine why? Because they are old and dont underestimate them. It took me so long cuz the book kept putting me to sleep and put me in a reading slump. Also just writing the characters name randomly in the book to switch pov didnt do it for me, took me a little be to realize it was switching povs
They are old. What about it? Of course their previous training had something to do with it, but they were beyond ready to deal with the power outages, the attacks and the food scarcity. Their neighbors were lucky to have them in that community. Don't discount "old people"!!
As an older guy myself this book had promise. Instead it barely kept me reading. The main character wasn’t likeable, and the book was poorly edited. Often it was hard to tell who was speaking because of the disorganized dialogue formatting. The neighborhood setting was unrealistic, with about half the residents either in the police or military, and cooperation came too easy.
I was sucked into this book from page one. I couldn't put it down. It was a practical pepper book, but full of action. Being a 60 something old women, I loved how badass Lena, the leading lady, was!
The R in AARP stands for retribution when a couple of a certain age school their younger neighborhood allies in the true price of war. This story blazes from the opening page. Great read.
Ray is an astonishing writer. Thoughtful but able to craft a fast, riviting action tale. I want to read #2 in a new series. So many characters to develop.
i enjoyed this novel. its well written and fast.moving. The main characters are likeable although they were Russian agents. Terrorists attack the grid and the Russians expect Tim and Lena to do their assignments.
Society fell but not with their help. Grid goes down but neighbors band together. Russian sleepers decide they don't want to after 40 years in America.
