Unexpected Love #4

Trusting Fletcher

Rate this book
How can I dream of tomorrow when I can barely get through today?

I learned long ago not to let anyone in. Keep my head down. Do my job. Stay in the shadows. It’s easier that way—safer. But everything changes when two words shatter the fragile order of my multiple sclerosis.

Suddenly, the walls I’ve spent years building don’t seem so solid anymore. My body is betraying me. Every step is uncertain, every night torture. Even my apartment, my only sanctuary, has turned into a danger zone. And I have nowhere else to go.

That is, until Fletcher Rhide extends a hand.

Fletcher has made a career of fixing things. The last thing I need is for him to fix me. I didn’t ask for his help, and I certainly don’t want it, but I also don’t have a choice.

Fletcher has been a regular at the bar for as long as I’ve worked there, yet he is nothing like what I expected. His kindness goes beyond offering me a place to stay—he’s giving me an open heart and an ear to listen. He’s showing me the kind of trust I thought I’d never have again.

Every step closer to him feels like a step closer to an edge, and risking my heart again feels more daunting than all the years I spent on the battlefield. Will Fletcher still love me as things become more difficult, or am I better off fighting this alone?

Trusting Fletcher is a 72k contemporary romance with adult themes. It is part of the Unexpected Love series, but can be enjoyed as a stand-alone.

I am an Idaho native who grew up dreaming about traveling the world and writing stories. As a child, I would often spend my spare time curled up with my favorite blanket and a notebook, writing another fairy tale. I never would have guessed those fairy tales would one day grow into gay romances, but that is where my heart led me and I am so glad it did. I write about love because I believe it can happen to anyone, with anyone. I also believe dreams never expire, redemption is possible, and true forgiveness can heal us in ways we never expect. I know firsthand how messy life can get, but as any artist will tell you, a little mess is needed to create something beautiful. That’s why I write, to help others see that anything can be beautiful. You can often find me with a mug of coffee in one hand and a dog toy in the other. There is never a day that goes by without my sweet boy insisting on a game - or twenty - of fetch.

Okay, time to explain myself. If the rating doesn't give you a clue, I truly hated this book. Not like my general apathetic and uninterested hatred. I *actively* hated this. My energy levels are subpar at the best of times, but I am positively enthusiastic in my hatred of the title. If you are the author, friends with the author, affiliated with the author in any way, or simply really liked this book, please do not read this. I don't want to hurt any feelings, but I won't be holding back either.

I hated this book in every way I knew it was possible to hate a book, and I swear I invented a few new ways to hate it on the spot. I was actually having quite a good time at 20%, but it wasn't long before things started to grate on me, and I was pretty much rage-reading for most of the second half. I will try to keep it to my main reasons for hatred, otherwise we will be here all day.

Firstly, the writing. The writing was overblown and pretentious. Such as:

"Something in his face breaks open. Relief. Wonder. Joy."

Why use one word when three will do?

I appreciate that probably doesn't sound too bad by itself, but when the text is crammed with things like that, it becomes really weird, really irritating, and slows the story down considerably. It wasn't long before I was muttering 'he was wonderful. Marvellous. Incredible' to myself in a silly voice. I really enjoy good writing, but constantly describing things three different ways is not inherently good, and I do not have that patience for this at this time. Get the fuck to the point, please and thank you.

The attempt to be flowery and romantic also led to things like this:

"He rolls me to my side, entering me in one smooth, tight glide."

Would you like some lube, Sir? Prep? Nope, it's all smooth gliding here.

Again, not a massive deal in and of itself, but it sounded incredibly stupid and annoying, and briefly made me wonder if we had slipped into an omegaverse AU and they were producing their own slick now.

Anyway, the writing was small fry compared to the main problem, which was, surprisingly, the disability rep. I don't routinely go around bitching about disability rep in books, but I honestly thought the rep in this was *terrible*. The MC has MS, and while the author has obviously done their research, just researching a condition does not make for good rep. The character and condition should be portrayed with sensitivity, dignity and respect, and I felt this book really fell down there. It seemed incredibly patronising towards the disabled MC and also to his partner, there was a vibe of 'oh he's such a nice man to willingly saddle himself with someone with such a severe disability'. As for the disabled MC himself, the earlier parts felt like low-level trauma porn (oh this poor man, how distressed he is by his body betraying him) and the ending felt like it was half an inch away from using words like 'journey' and 'inspirational', and I am so not at home to that. It felt like disability rep for the able-bodied gaze, which was incredibly disappointing and really not that way I want to see disability portrayed in media. I don't have MS, but I have a condition that is very similar, in that it's degenerative with decreasing mobility and escalating pain levels, and while I'm normally sympathetic to all types of disability, whether I share them or not, there is something distinctly disturbing about being invited to pity and feel sorry for a man who is objectively in a way better place than me. I'd prefer not to be encouraged to think of anyone in that way, but at least he has medications and options. The fact that he may never get better was presented as a tragedy of epic proportions, but for most of the disabled community, that is simply reality. And it doesn't make us brave or inspiring either.

This was a quick and low angst read with interesting characters. I appreciated the friends to lovers story and the way that Fletcher seemed to anticipate Vince's needs without being too overreaching.

I enjoyed getting to know the characters and watching them react to their circumstances and their community. Not having the type of disability that Vince has, I can't speak to the accuracy of those circumstances, but it felt like the author had done research and was fairly comfortable with the portrayal of the disability.

When I read the blurb for Fletcher and Vince’s story, I knew I had to read this book. Vince has MS, and my sister-in-law did, too. We never really spoke about it, and my brother and I were both busy as caretakers for our spouses as we got into our 60s and 70s, so we never discussed it in depth, either. I knew my sister-in-law had MS, she had issues with nerves, she had good days or good periods, then there would be bad ones, then good ones again, but not as good as before the bad ones came. I saw her change over the years in what she could do, but never really thought much about it as I was dealing with a different set of circumstances with my husband over those same years. This book opened my eyes to what she went through with the increased loss of mobility over the years, making me more aware of things I noticed more in passing than anything, pretty much oblivious to what it meant for her, my brother, and their marriage. They were active and had enjoyed boating and going in their motor home, the last couple years when she was totally wheelchair bound, but they continued to enjoy life as much as possible within the constraints of her illness. They did what Fletcher and Vince planned to do, take each day as it came, thankful for the time they had together, ready to face whatever the disease and life threw at them head on, always there for each other.

My brother was Fletcher to me in this book, Vince was my sister-in-law, Sally, and what Fletcher and Vince went through mirrored much of what I saw with my family members. The part that really struck me was when Vince expressed the sense of losing parts of himself, little pieces missing, more each time. I saw that with Sally, and with my husband and his illness, but never really internalized the losing parts of themselves idea until I look back on it now after reading this book. I wish I had had more insight then, had come across a book like this one to open my eyes, and maybe have been a better support system to them and even my husband. Watching both of them was like seeing little pieces disappear over time, and was heartbreaking. Like Fletcher, my brother and I would have fixed it if we could, but life doesn’t always give those options, so we do what must be done on both sides.

The book is not dark, but it isn’t all sunshine and roses either, but there was one part with a vibrator that really lightened up the darker parts, and brought laughter with tears for the characters and this reader (and I am sure many others). Fletcher and Vince grew on me as characters, they came across as very realistic in their thoughts, feelings, and words. I wanted to hug both of them, tell them to hang in there, there can still be many good parts of life yet to come, many more years of sharing love between them. The side characters were so supportive all along, and you know they will be there in the future, too, whenever they are needed.

I think the author either knew someone with MS who was willing to share a lot, or she did very good research, many of the parts the doctor spoke about were ones my sister-in-law went through, tests, medications, treatments, all of it I remember being mentioned over the course of her disease.

This book really spoke to me and I thank the author so much for writing it. I hope it will help others who know someone with MS but don’t know much about the disease to educate them on what the symptoms are and how they feel to the person as little parts disappear from their bodies and their sense of self. It is hard to imagine, but I think this book just made it clearer and more real to me. I hope other readers get as much from it as I did.

Independent reviewer for GRR, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is book 4 in the Unexpected Love series, and I have not read books one and two. I read book 3, Jordan's Breakthrough, and I really liked that, even if the subject matter was a little close to home.

This book?? I LOVED!!

Vince is bouncer in the bar that centres around this group of people. He's struggling, but he doesn't want anyone to see. A fall where Fletcher rescues him, and Vince realises he really needs some help, even if he doesn't want it. But getting closer to Fletcher will mean revealing what's wrong with him, and dealing with Fletcher walking away. Vince can't do that, not again. Until, it's not Vince's decision anymore and Fletcher bounds his way into Vince's heart.

I said in my review for book 3, that the author had either first hand experience, or had done a massive amount of research on that subject. I stand by that here.

Vince is diagnosed with MS, a chronic autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the myelin sheath protecting nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Vince is feeling it in his feet, and his joints. Letting Fletcher help him, is not on his to do list, but Fletcher just lets Vince be. He sees Vince, really SEES what's going on behind the mask he puts on for his friends (Jordan was the same!) and Fletcher lets Vince do things at his own pace. I loved when Vince finally saw what Fletcher was telling him: He isn't on his own, he has support, he has friends who want to help.

I found the romance a slow build, but a natural progression from their friendship. I found the smex and steam low, but absolutely on point for these two! Emotional again, but in a very different way to Jordan's book.

The angst is low, apart from Vince's illness but even when Fletcher was trying to help, Vince bit back and snapped. He explained after, but still.

5 very VERY good stars

Vince isn’t used to people seeing him. Too damn bad. He has my attention now.

A hopeful love story, a man dealing with his new reality and finding someone willing to help him with the weight.
Very heart-warming, if maybe a bit sad at times. Vince’s struggles with his MS diagnosis were… overwhelming? I’m not sure I was in the right headspace for this particular premise.

“I got a vibrator stuck,” I blurt. Fletcher whips his head around, sputtering like he’s trying not to laugh. “Sorry… what?”

“Jesus fucking Christ!” Fletcher freezes. “Did I hurt you?” I look over my shoulder. “Toy in my ass, Fletch. What do you think?”

It had its more lighthearted moments, and the ‘need help with a stuck dildo’ scenario is one I haven’t yet encountered, both fun and sexy.
Overall, I struggled to connect with the characters and really feel their bond. That, paired with the heavy theme, along with the fact I may be in a bit of a slump, made this read not as great as I was hoping.
Still, a very loving romantic read.

This life we’ve built—messy, beautiful, uncertain—it’s ours. And for the first time, I’m not afraid to believe in it.

ARC provided by Gay Romance Reviews for free. This is my honest review.

I’m going to have to go back and read the other stories in this series because this is the second I have read and it was so good.

Vince works at Declan’s bar and is a bouncer. He’s in pain daily but hides it and dodged questions and concern. He battles himself daily over his body betraying him and avoiding anyone knowing and becoming a burden to anyone.

Fletcher is a divorced man with a teenager. He owns a renovation company and is a frequent visitor to Declan’s bar. He, along with everyone else in Vince’s circle, know something is going on with Vince. He doesn’t let Vince’s repeated “I’m fine” nor his stubbornness keep Fletcher from helping him and slowly chipping away at his defenses.

Fletcher is the partner you want. He’s your ride or die, regardless of how bumpy the road gets. He won’t let Vince suffer alone or isolate himself. He’s so damn kind and has a huge heart. Vince is stubborn but it comes from a place of fear of not being enough and being too much all at once.

I don’t know a lot about MS but I felt like the author really approached this carefully and did the research. My only quibble is that too much time was spent in these men’s heads where they sit in uncomfortable silences and tension with each other because they refuse to open their mouths and speak.

Otherwise, well written and well paced.

Vince has spent years keeping to himself, doing his job and staying invisible, but everything changes when he’s diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. His body becomes unpredictable, his home unsafe, and the life he’s carefully managed starts to fall apart. With nowhere else to turn, he reluctantly accepts help from Fletcher Rhide — a longtime bar regular who turns out to be far kinder and more patient than Vince ever expected. Fletcher offers him a safe place to stay, steady support, and a level of trust Vince hasn’t felt in years. As they grow closer, Vince fears risking his heart even more than facing his illness. He has to decide whether to let Fletcher in or keep fighting alone.

I had very mixed feelings while reading this one. As someone who also lives with MS, I appreciated seeing a character navigate the fear and uncertainty that comes with the diagnosis — but I did feel the story overlooked the many medications and therapies that can genuinely help manage symptoms. Because of that, Vince’s doubts about his future and the future of his relationship felt far too amplified, to the point where it became painful to read. That said, the writing itself is strong, and the emotional intensity is easy to understand. The author captures vulnerability well, and the story doesn’t shy away from the rawness of fear and love colliding. It’s a tough, emotional read, and while it didn’t fully work for me, I’m glad I experienced it. This was an MM story with mature content.

'My chest tightens and my eyes suddenly burn. It’s stupid— so stupid— to be touched by something so small. But nobody has ever seen me the way this man does.'

As soon as I read the story synopsis, I had to read this book. I was diagnosed with MS exactly four years ago, and though I think for me it was caught early and I can't complain considering how severe it affects others, I haven't read a romance with a character experiencing it and that really drew me in.

Though to be truthful, I avoided really delving into great detail about my condition after my official diagnosis. I tend to be paranoid and stress-worry about sensations in my body with different pains and aches that appear, stick around for several days, and then disappear again just as suddenly. Later I'll have an issue with something else, and so on. My mind doesn't need to be aware of everything that can go wrong with me both early on and down the line. But I would like to read about (or watch) characters with MS to see how they navigate it, have the support from friends/family, and fall in love.

This book was such a beautiful hurt/comfort romance. I loved both Vince and Fletcher. They were cute together and I really liked Fletcher's support of Vince and wanting to help- even in little way- regardless of if Vince asks for help or not. The story had emotional scenes, but also lighthearted ones, as some funny ones as well. I really enjoyed it. 4 stars

This story revolves around Vince, bouncer at a bar, who has been diagnosed with MS. He is not miraculously cured by the end of the book, nor do his symptoms become better or disappear.

As Vince is finding it harder and harder to do all the standing required for his job, one of the bar's patrons, Fletcher, starts to notice. They are both attracted to each other, but haven't acted on it. One evening Fletcher finds Vince in his car in the parking lot, too tired to drive home. A car ride home later, plus a fall down the stairs find Vince moving into Fletcher's cottage that stands behind the main house. The 2 of them fall in love as Vince learns to live with his condition (while waiting for an appointment with a specialist). Vince also learns that he has a large number of people who like him and are ready to support him going forward.

Really enjoyed this book. Liked the way the 2 mains learned to live with the diagnosis instead of having it just disappear. Enjoyed all the side characters. This is medium spice, found family, and a bit of sunshine/grumpy. Although it is part of a series, it functions very well as a stand alone.

I received this as an arc, and another of the series is available as well. I'm definitely requesting it as I'm really liking the way this author writes.

Trusting Fletcher by Kim Breyon was such a good read and now I definitely need to go back and read the rest of the series.

Vince is a bouncer who’s used to keeping to himself, but after being diagnosed with MS, everything starts to change. He’s in pain, struggling, and doing everything he can to hide it. Fletcher, a regular at the bar and a divorced dad, sees right through the “I’m fine” and refuses to let Vince deal with it alone.

Fletcher is honestly the kind of partner everyone wants. Patient, kind, and completely ride or die. He gently pushes past Vince’s walls without ever forcing him, just showing up again and again until Vince starts to let him in. Vince is stubborn, but it comes from fear of being too much and not enough all at once, which made him really easy to connect with.

I really appreciated how the MS representation was handled. It felt thoughtful and realistic, and I liked that it wasn’t magically fixed or brushed aside. It was about learning to live with it and leaning on the people around you.

My only small issue was that at times they stayed in their heads a bit too much instead of communicating, which created some drawn-out tension.

Overall though, this was a heartfelt, emotional story with strong found family vibes and a really solid relationship. No unnecessary drama, just two people figuring things out together.

The moment I saw a new installment in the Unexpected Love series, I knew it was a must-read for me. Jordan’s Breakthrough was one of the best stories I read last year, and Vince and Fletcher’s story is every bit as incredible.
Right from the start, we learn that Vince is struggling with taxing physical symptoms while waiting for an MS diagnosis. Watching him navigate such a heavy situation—dealing with his own doubts about whether he could ever be an equal partner to anyone—was so moving. I read his chapters with a constant lump in my throat. Then there’s Fletcher, who was such a wonderful character. He needed a different kind of support, something more emotional, because despite having loved ones around, he had felt lonely for years.
The way Fletcher was so attentive—knowing exactly when Vince felt overwhelmed and offering just a glass of water or a simple hand squeeze to say, 'I’m here if you need me'—absolutely melted my heart. It was everything. Even with Vince's fears, it was clear from the jump that they were made for each other. I honestly didn't want this story to end. It’s a beautiful, touching tale of love, support, and treasuring every single day together.

This isn't a light, feel-good read, so don't go into this thinking it's going to be a fluffy, easy read. The book tackles tough subjects like chronic illness, disability, and men learning to face their own mortality, and there were honestly moments when I wanted to put the book down because it started to feel a little like sadness voyeurism.

That said, it's still very well written, and the author hits every emotional beat with the strength you expect from them. I also really appreciate the effort the author clearly put into researching multiple sclerosis. I loved the first three books in this series, so I was surprised that this one didn't really sit right with me. I couldn't help but feel like the author wanted this installment to be more serious and emotionally heavy than the others. At times, the story comes a little too close to being over-dramatic, but the heart of the relationship between the characters is still clear.

Overall, while this book turned out not to be my cup of tea the way the first three books were, it's still a thoughtful and well-written addition to the series. It's just one that is much heavier emotionally than I expected.

Trusting Fletcher by Kim Breyon is book 4 in the Unexpected Love series. I have really enjoyed this series so far. It has been sweet, emotional, and I love the journey that each character had. This one focuses on Vince who is struggling with his MS diagnosis. His body is working against him in his job as bouncer. Fletcher, single dad and local construction company worker, notices and wants to help Vince. Vince is stubborn though. He wants to be independent and not dependent on anyone who may get tired of it in the future. Vince soon starts living with Fletcher after a nasty fall at his own apartment. The two realize that they are attracted to each other and want to explore their feelings, but Vince is still holding back. I think what made this book so good was that these two never denied that they had feelings, but Vince did not want to start something with Fletcher with his diagnosis being between them. Fletcher was so afraid that Vince would push him away and Vince was afraid that Fletcher would soon regret becoming involved with someone with a chronic illness. This was so good and I look forward to reading more in this series.

I received an ARC from GRR for my honest review.

Vince is the bouncer at a bar that orbits a tight-knit group of friends. He’s stoic, private, and determined to hide the way his body is betraying him. A fall—rescued by Fletcher—becomes the hinge of the story: it forces Vince to confront that he needs help, even if asking for it terrifies him. The novel follows Vince’s slow, believable thaw as Fletcher’s steady presence and gentle insistence teach him that he doesn’t have to carry everything alone. Vince is layered and sympathetic: proud, stubborn, and quietly vulnerable. Fletcher is the perfect counterbalance—attentive without being overbearing, patient without being passive. Their friendship-first foundation makes the romance feel earned. Secondary characters, especially the wider friend group, provide warmth and context without stealing focus. The romance is a slow burn in the best sense: it grows naturally from shared moments, small acts of care, and mutual trust. The physical intimacy is measured—low on steam but high on emotional resonance—exactly right for two men learning to trust each other with fragile truths.

Trusting Fletcher is a heartfelt romance about vulnerability, illness, and learning to accept help when life suddenly changes. Vince has always kept people at arm’s length, but after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and struggling to keep up with his job, he finds himself with nowhere to turn—until Fletcher steps in.

What starts as simple kindness slowly grows into something deeper as Fletcher offers Vince a safe place to land and the patience to support him through an uncertain future. I really appreciated that the story doesn’t magically “fix” Vince’s illness; instead, it focuses on how he learns to live with it and lean on the people who care about him.

With a touch of grumpy/sunshine, supportive side characters, and a gentle but emotional romance, this was a warm and thoughtful read that works perfectly as a standalone.

Fletcher is a successful contractor. His life is going well with his business and his daughter, but as she matures and starts to become more independent loneliness begins to creep in. He enjoys spending time at his favorite bar and has made friends with all the staff except for Vince, the bouncer. Vince is a retired soldier, who grew up as an Army brat and learned the only one he could count on to be there for him was him. He has just received a diagnosis for MS and instead of leaning on his friends he tries to deal with everything on his own. Fletcher happens upon Vince in a vulnerable moment and steps in. Soon Fletcher helps Vince with finding a better place to live and offering support while he is coming to terms with his new life. Breyon has a talent for writing realistic, likable and relatable characters who find love during the most tumultuous times of their lives. And even though the angst is always kept to a minimum the solutions always seem valid.

I needed to read an inspirational love story and this one was it. My heart was full and this one reminded me that good people do exist and do the right thing. My heart hurt for Vince, with his MS diagnosis. He simply wanted to live a quite unassuming life, being independent and keeping his diagnose hidden. Till he could not with Fletcher in his life. Fletcher is a frequent customer at bar Vince works, and he quietly watches Vince. A slow burning romance that moves easily from friends to lovers center this book. I have not read the other books in this series, but will make it a priority after the way this one moved my heart. I loved watching Vince learn to live with his diagnosis, and loved his understanding that Fletcher was simply not being nice, but he truly and unapologetically "saw" Vince. His support filled my heart as these two were perfect for one another.

Courageos! Vince, is a Veteran who survived the war and returned home. He is working as a bouncer when he gets a medical diagnosis that tilts his world and puts him in survival mode. He spends months awaiting an appointment with a specialist, keeping his diagnosis to himself and coping in the meantime. Fletcher, owns a consulting business, is divorced, has an amazing ex, Sarah and a fantastic daughter. He sees through Vince and feels compelled to help. They become friends and then, more. Kim, creates a story of determination, courage, coping, persistence, patience and unconditional love. The journey is not easy. The health and emotional challenges are real and you can feel each step, each fear and each thought of hope. Good cover art, amazing supportive group of friends and family, well done! Thank you for the book; here is my honest opinions
4.5⭐️This was pretty wonderful, this series has been quite special- all the stories excellent. These two have a natural connection but have a bit of a tough road as Vince fears becoming a burden to Fletcher as his illness progresses. Luckily, Fletcher is patient, Vince keeps fighting, and they both have lots of support. The side characters were a highlight, I loved how genuinely kind and supportive their network of family and friends were, lovely people in this town. I also loved that the author gave us an ex wife, in Sarah who was not a negative force in the plot. That unfortunately seems like a rarity, but I loved that she was a big part of their support system. Great characters, excellent series!

This was an amazing book by an author I never heard of before. MS, the disease Vince has, his diagnosis and how he learns to cope with it is told with empathy and support from those who love Vince. Those he never knew loved him. His best friend from the army Ace. His boss where he was a bouncer. And Fletcher who sees him, all the little things, who offers him a safe place to live, a dog named Bones and even Fletcher's daughter responsible for unknowingly giving him a new career!
Learning to live in the now when your future is so unknown must be incredibly difficult, this book shows one way it gets done.

Thank you Gay Romance Reviews for this ARC.

I wasn't familiar with Kim Breyon's books. But after reading this one, she's definitely one of my top 10 authors.

What a beautiful story.

Vince is going through a period of learning to cope with his life with MS. Fletcher is immediately drawn to him and slowly discovers what Vince is struggling with. Instead of abandoning him, Fletcher is there for him. He tries to give him space to let him into his life.
What Vince sees as a weakness, Fletcher sees as a strength.

A beautiful love story that I read in one sitting.

Hurt/comfort, disability rep

Vince is a bouncer at a bar, stoic and stubborn.
His body is causing him problems and he's trying to hide it.
Fletcher is a patron and there's an attraction between them but not acted upon.
He definitely notices the problem and finds Vince in his car one night, unable to function.
A very difficult conversation ensues and Vince is moving in to a cottage on Fletcher's property.

He is not used to trusting anyone or letting them in. But things changed when he was diagnosed with MS and found that he needed help. Vince didn't want to let Fletcher in, but Fletcher turned out to be just what he needed. The progression of their connection moved at a respectful pace. Fletcher was helpful, he became a friend but he did not push for anything else even though he has feelings for Vince. As they fall for one another, Vince also comes to realize that Fletcher was worthy not only of his love but also of his trust.

Like the previous three books of this series, "Trusting Fletcher", Book 4 hits all the right notes. Prior reading of the other books isn't necessary. It'll open your eyes about MS from the POV of a person living with it. It may not encompass everything, but it brings the realities of the disease to the fore. It is educational of what MS is and how it can affect the patient.

Vince Mercer, bouncer at Graham's Bar, suffers from MS in silence. No one in his life doesn't know about it. People at the bar know something is up, but don't press Vince about his health. He just answers, "I'm fine" when asked. He's slowly losing his abilities to do things without pain or muscle weakness. He get taxed easily. He knows he has to move because the stairs are challenging and unsafe for him. But, Vince is stubbornly independent.

One customer who does press and gets the truth out of Vince is Fletcher Rhide, contractor and co-owner of Rhide Renovations. Fletcher is told of the diagnosis one night when he finds Vince just sitting in his car at the bar's parking lot. Vince tells Fletcher he can't drive himself home because of the state of his leg. Fletcher offers to drive him home. Vince eventually agrees to stay at Fletcher's in-law suite out back of his house.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this very much. It may be too real or heavy for some readers, but it is written well. I happily recommend it.

Vince is the bouncer @ Graham's, he's struggling with physical symptoms waiting for an MS diagnosis. Fletcher an often customer @ Graham's, he's often noticed Vince & decides to approach him when he notices little things in his behavior. They form a friendship & Vince opens up about the MS & Fletcher is there for him. Although we were not as close, having a cousin just recently passed away from this, & seeing/hearing what his family went through, this for me was a touching story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you GRR for the arc!

This has been a good read. I liked how the book took its time to sit with you through the struggles of Vince that come with a chronic illness and the uncertainties that come with it.

Also, it's totally wild that someone (Fletcher, in this case) just casually has a studio apartment in the back of his property? And it's only used for sleepovers? How rich is this dude?

Fletcher and Vince were so inspiring. Vince was just trying to keep working and hiding his condition. I adored that Fletcher had been observing from afar and just knew he had to help Vince. These two grew to have such a natural relationship with a genuine friendship in there too. I love reading about men growing close with one of them really showing so much support and assistance the other one letting someone in!

Vince, who had never really had much support during his life, struggles to cope with needing to let people in to help him as his body no longer cooperates due to MS symptoms. Fletcher is completely there for Vince, and the care he takes to support without overwhelming was really touching. The battle to accept such a diagnosis with no exact expectations or cure was well written. There were quite a few really admirable characters.

Such a lovely story! As someone who suffers with chronic illness and a sister who has MS this story hit home for me. I love how Fletcher is just quietly there for Vince supporting him without trying to take away his independence. Even with Fletcher crushing on Vince as well he doesn’t push and as their friendship grows, so does the natural blossoms of love and companionship. Really great read very much enjoyed it!

A wonderful story of hope & celebration of life!

Fletcher & Vince are a perfect example of unconditional love & acceptance. In the face of an uncertain future regarding Vince’s MS trajectory, they choose to live each day fully together, thriving not just surviving, celebrating every golden moment and handling the rough moments as they come.

An inspiring, uplifting love story!
