This was a riveting speculative fiction thriller that had me on the edge of my seat from the Epilogue, no word of a lie, I couldn’t put this book down, I read the whole thing in one sitting. It combines the suspense of a thriller with certain elements of science fiction, and fantasy.

It’s a captivating story where one woman has seemingly eliminated the uncertainty of one’s death. It explores the philosophical, emotional and societal consequences of knowing the exact date of one’s death. It’s not shocking that after a relatively short amount of time, humanity is divided into three groups, those who live long (Longevites), those whose deaths are near (Mayflies) and those who do not want to know their end date (Shadowborn/the Obscura). Let’s be honest, we all know where this is going, because a lot of people have experienced this in one way or another; employment, marriage, immigration, education are granted to the Longevites. While the rest are left to survive on their own. This concept was complex. I did sway back and forth on whether or not I fully understood what was going on. I was certainly confused at the beginning, but by the end I felt I had a stronger grasp on the overall explanation of how the date is determined.

I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, right from the beginning we are introduced to different characters who fall under each of the three groups. We get more of an in-depth point of view from those living the high lives of the Longevites to the low lives of the Mayflies and Shadowborns. Each of the characters had compelling stories, I quickly became obsessed with wanting to know more about the new lives they were living. We don’t get deep background on how these people lived their lives prior to the introduction of knowing one’s death date, however, the characters were strong, so I didn’t find myself yearning for that information, but it would have been interesting to see how much their lives changed, it did touch on it though! So, we do get some of that information, but it doesn’t play a huge role, and again, that’s OK, the characters and their points of view were fantastic.

The twists. I was so focused on the different points of view, and the impending death dates that I didn’t see the twists coming. They brought some shock and excitement to the story! I was quite pleased with the twists. The ending overall was great.

I absolutely recommend this story, especially if this sounds like something you would vibe with! I wasn’t sure what to expect when diving into this, but, it doesn’t even matter, because it was great all the way through!

End Date is one of those rare speculative thrillers that grabs you from the very first line and refuses to let go.

The author masterfully builds a dystopia that feels unsettlingly plausible, blending psychological tension, moral ambiguity, and philosophical depth. Through multiple perspectives, End Date examines how certainty about death changes how we love, work, dream, and fight for meaning.

It’s a tense, twist-filled ride with no easy answers, just the kind of story that lingers long after the last page. If you enjoy books that challenge your thinking while keeping your heart racing, End Date is an unmissable read.

End Date is perfect for fans of Blake Crouch, or Black Mirror, this book is a gripping, unforgettable ride. Highly recommended. Can't wait to read Part 2!

"I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.” End Date
What if you knew the exact moment you were going to die down to the nanosecond? That’s the chilling question at the heart of End Date, a gripping speculative thriller set in a near-future world forever changed by a mysterious revelation. Five years after this discovery, society is unrecognizable. Life is now dictated by the “end date,” affecting everything from careers and relationships to immigration and education.
Humanity has fractured into three distinct groups: the Longevites, whose end dates are far off; the Mayflies, whose time is near; and the Shadowborn (also known as the Obscura), who choose not to know their fate. As tensions rise and the world teeters on collapse, a small group of individuals is faced with an impossible choice one that could have consequences even more devastating than death itself.
Told through a multi character narrative, End Date delves into the philosophical, emotional, and societal implications of knowing the exact date of one's death. With elements of dystopian suspense, psychological complexity, and ethical dilemmas, this novel delivers a thought provoking and fast paced story filled with morally grey characters and twists you won’t see coming.
End Date is perfect for fans of high concept thrillers and speculative fiction that challenges the boundaries of human behavior, mortality, and free will. Time is ticking. Dive into this unforgettable story now.💛

End Date is nothing like I was expecting. As society learns when they will die, individually, we see a new way of separating people based on how long they have left to live. There are multiple POVs, all of which give insight into different parts of this new world they have found themselves in. Socio-economic standings, relationships, job prospects, schooling...everything changes based on how long you have left to live.
This science fiction brings forward the idea of whether would you want to know when your last day was? Last Hour? Last Minute? What would you do if you knew? This book got the wheels turning in my head, and it was an enjoyable read! I would recommend this debut novel for anyone who enjoys science fiction or anyone who just needs something different to read!
